Visited the Red Ribbon Bakeshop in Concord to pick up some treats for the holidays. The walk up service is easy and convenient and the staff at the counter was friendly. Growing up in Manila, I'm no stranger to Red Ribbon baked goods. From their soft butter mamons, delicate cakes and other lunch offerings, it's an easy choice when I travel back to my hometown. Mama knows to always bring me an ube cake from Red Ribbon on my birthday. I remember back in 2014, I received not one, but two Ube cakes! (My work Mom caught onto the idea) It's a stunning cake and the flavor is oh so wonderful! Cutting the cake barely takes an effort, you can use your fingers to cut it, that's how soft it is. The whipped cream rosettes give it a fancy feel, but the real flavor punch comes from a very thin layer of the jellied macapuno. Of course, the bright purple coloring from purple no. 15 helps a lot too :) Other cakes you should try are the tropical mango and the super sweet mocha crunch cake. So while eating at Jollibee we saw this big sign for a Mango Supreme Cake. My kids were like "Mom! We love Mango! We need this cake!" Ok, Ok fine Ill get the cake. These kids cant get enough Mango. I ordered a cake for the following weekend because we had a family gathering happening and the kids and I decided to bring the most Mango Cake ever. We also bought a bunch of Mango Bars from the counter. We bought a bunch for home and a bunch so the kids could give them as gifts to their teachers. I ordered the cake and paid and scheduled pick up for Saturday at noon. I showed up and it was right there and ready. Every one I dealt with was so pleasant. The cake was so good. It was a huge hit at the party. No one there had ever had anything like it. The cake part was delicate and light. The Mango wasn't too over powering and not overly sweet. Its a whole Mango experience in itself. And if you ask my kids they can clearly never get enough mango. Now I know exactly where to go for all of my unique Mango needs. read more

The absolute worst Red Ribbon in America! I usually go to the one in South San Francisco. The difference is HUGE! I order the Arroz Caldo (chicken porridge) and the plates are always half filled! After 10 scoops its gone! Why they won't fill it all the way up to the cover is a mystery. In SF the same size plate is always filled to the top! I order the Halo Halo dessert drink and they only fill half of the cup! There's more crushed ice than actual ingredients. And there's no flan! In SF the ingredients go over the bubble cap. This place puzzles me to this day. Its not surprising Jolibee next door always has a long line. Do yourself a favor my Filipino brothers and sisters don't waste your money coming here. I came in to order some food at the request of my sister. I've never seen this place before. As I approached the cashier, I could see a girl sitting on the cutting board on the prep table talking with two employees. The prep table is right behind the cashier so there is a clear view . From a food safety standpoint, this is horrifying. I asked the employee if the cut food on that prep table and he turned around to say something to the girl. Then she got off the table. At that point, I walked away not ordering anything. I reported this to the health department. The managers and staff need training on food safety. I will never go there again. read more

Beginning of line is confusing with Jollibee's line so close to it. Actual store is ok. Review is for actual baked goods and noodles. Ordered the family size flavorful palabok, rice noodles with shrimp based sauce, fish flakes, eggs and green onion slices. Came packaged and piping hot. Ordered chocolate cake slices and mango indulgence cake slice. Heavenly! Ordered their famous ensaymada, brioche topped with sugar and grated cheese. Great with coffee! Adjoining dining area needed bussing, picking up, wiping down and cleaning; especially during peak times. No one came to clean the entire hour we were there. I always stop by here before visiting family in Pittsburg. It's in the seafood market plaza so parking is not a problem. Family always requests empanadas and palabok. Cashier was courteous and helpful. I sometimes get their cakes which are great but i didn't on this particular visit. Ordered their palabok empanada combo. Service was quick and efficient. Before i could find a spot to wait my order was ready. Palabok tasted as expected and the empanada was good. Again what i would expect from red ribbon. Decent food. Family in Pittsburg is stuck on the taste of this place and set i their ways however i prefer the palabok from Goldilocks and empanada from el Porteno in SF. read more

My family loves their palabok! Their chicken empanada used to be okay. I recently bought 10 pieces to share with friends. Unfortunately, we were disappointed! For $3.29 a piece, I expected the same decent empanada I had a while back. They REDUCED the amount of filling and it has a lot more dough which was soft, almost wet! They also tasted like they needed more time in the oven. Next time, I'll drive to my fave bakery in Vallejo to buy empanadas. read more

I always come here to get cake for when my children or even family/friends have birthdays. I've come here a few times for their palabok party platter. It's a shame that the guy that helped me gave me the wrong tray size and i hadn't notice until i got to my car. i had my kids with me so returning to the store wasn't an option. Since I have never had Halo Halo before I don't know if this was good or bad. I did like it but I am not sure if a real Filipino would think it was good Let alone passable. It's a mixed dessert drink. Halo I found out means "Mix". It has red beans, coconut jelly, mango, red palm fruit, milk topped with leche flan and mango iced topping (500 calories). Lots going on here, all kinds of tastes and textures. I will defiantly try it again somewhere else for comparison. Cashier said, they recently just changed and doesn't know why.. Their new combo does not come with a drink, you have to purchase it separately. And they dont carry Coke products. Review #131 - 2016 After I finished taking care of my business at Atlas Shippers, which took almost an hour to send money to the Philippines, I was craving something cold & sweet so I decided to head over to Goldilocks hoping to order a halo halo. Unfortunately, the cashier informed me that they'd ran out of ice cream so I decided to make my way over to Red Ribbon. While placing my order for two halo halos, the cashier informed me that they ran out of flan so she would give me an extra scoop of ice cream so I said "sure". Seems like everyone's running out of something. I don't remember ever having flan in my halo halo before so I don't think I was missing out on much. Although, I do like flan on its own. The halo halo was $4.99 each and had a good mixture of red & yellow beans, green coconut jelly, mangoes, milk, crushed ice and two scoops of ice cream. I was kind of disappointed that they used vanilla ice cream instead of ube, which is how I've normally had them. The sweetness level was a little too plain for me, but it was decent enough to satisfy my craving. Ugh! (It pains me to have to write a poor review for this place. I really want to only say nice things because they're a Filipino restaurant....and im Filipino, but clearly I've never been one to candy coat my experience.) First off, the staff behind the counter seemed really friendly. When i asked him a question, he was very shy and timid. While he attempted to answer my question, I couldn't understand a word that mumbled out of his mouth. I proceeded to place my order and make a custom edit to my food item (extra sauce on my pancit palabok), since I've learned from previous visits, their sauce to noodle ratio is quite low. As I'm patiently waiting for my order, I'm able to peer in and see him making my order. He is literally throwing the extra garnishes on my food, (not happy). He bags my order but made no mention that my order of extra sauce on my dish was going to likely spill since it was overflowing out of the flimsy paper container. Occasionally I have a craving for Filipino food. I order palabok, arroz caldo, chicken empanada, mango cake and ube cake. So far, liked the palabok. The arroz caldo is too salty for me and the mango cake is a disappointment. I think it is the quality of the mango used. I still have to try the ube cake and empanadas, so will give additional reviews later. In the meantime, please adjust the arroz and maybe make it less dense. read more
