So while eating at Jollibee we saw this big sign for a Mango Supreme Cake. My kids were like "Mom! We love Mango! We need this cake!" Ok, Ok fine Ill get the cake. These kids cant get enough Mango. I ordered a cake for the following weekend because we had a family gathering happening and the kids and I decided to bring the most Mango Cake ever. We also bought a bunch of Mango Bars from the counter. We bought a bunch for home and a bunch so the kids could give them as gifts to their teachers. I ordered the cake and paid and scheduled pick up for Saturday at noon. I showed up and it was right there and ready. Every one I dealt with was so pleasant. The cake was so good. It was a huge hit at the party. No one there had ever had anything like it. The cake part was delicate and light. The Mango wasn't too over powering and not overly sweet. The absolute worst Red Ribbon in America! I usually go to the one in South San Francisco. The difference is HUGE! I order the Arroz Caldo (chicken porridge) and the plates are always half filled! After 10 scoops its gone! Why they won't fill it all the way up to the cover is a mystery. In SF the same size plate is always filled to the top! I order the Halo Halo dessert drink and they only fill half of the cup! There's more crushed ice than actual ingredients. And there's no flan! In SF the ingredients go over the bubble cap. This place puzzles me to this day. Its not surprising Jolibee next door always has a long line. Do yourself a favor my Filipino brothers and sisters don't waste your money coming here. I came in to order some food at the request of my sister. I've never seen this place before. As I approached the cashier, I could see a girl sitting on the cutting board on the prep table talking with two employees. The prep table is right behind the cashier so there is a clear view . From a food safety standpoint, this is horrifying. I asked the employee if the cut food on that prep table and he turned around to say something to the girl. Then she got off the table. Ordered chocolate cake slices and mango indulgence cake slice. Heavenly! Ordered their famous ensaymada, brioche topped with sugar and grated cheese. Great with coffee! Adjoining dining area needed bussing, picking up, wiping down and cleaning; especially during peak times. No one came to clean the entire hour we were there. I always stop by here before visiting family in Pittsburg. It's in the seafood market plaza so parking is not a problem. Family always requests empanadas and palabok. Cashier was courteous and helpful. I sometimes get their cakes which are great but i didn't on this particular visit. Ordered their palabok empanada combo. Service was quick and efficient. Before i could find a spot to wait my order was ready. Palabok tasted as expected and the empanada was good. Again what i would expect from red ribbon. Decent food. My family loves their palabok! Their chicken empanada used to be okay. I recently bought 10 pieces to share with friends. Unfortunately, we were disappointed! For $3.29 a piece, I expected the same decent empanada I had a while back. They REDUCED the amount of filling and it has a lot more dough which was soft, almost wet! It's a shame that the guy that helped me gave me the wrong tray size and i hadn't notice until i got to my car. i had my kids with me so returning to the store wasn't an option. Since I have never had Halo Halo before I don't know if this was good or bad. I did like it but I am not sure if a real Filipino would think it was good Let alone passable. It's a mixed dessert drink. Halo I found out means "Mix". It has red beans, coconut jelly, mango, red palm fruit, milk topped with leche flan and mango iced topping (500 calories). Lots going on here, all kinds of tastes and textures. I will defiantly try it again somewhere else for comparison. While placing my order for two halo halos, the cashier informed me that they ran out of flan so she would give me an extra scoop of ice cream so I said "sure". Ugh! (It pains me to have to write a poor review for this place. I really want to only say nice things because they're a Filipino restaurant....and im Filipino, but clearly I've never been one to candy coat my experience.) Occasionally I have a craving for Filipino food. I order palabok, arroz caldo, chicken empanada, mango cake and ube cake. So far, liked the palabok. The arroz caldo is too salty for me and the mango cake is a disappointment. I think it is the quality of the mango used. I was craving Ube cake for weeks. So finally I bought one. They don't sell individual slices of ube cake so I had to buy a whole one for about $20.00. Even though they give you a slice of Ube cake when you buy a meal. .. SO, I didn't get why they wouldn't sell me just a slice.. so anyway, I bought a whole cake .. because I was CRAVING it anyway. so I figured it was worth it.. My son started seeing the commercial on The Filipino Channel about Butter Mamon (sponge cake) so we come here for that when we're in the area. One time we came I was hungry so I ordered a rice soup that came with a side of two small steamed buns. The buns were tasty but small and the soup was very salty. If you want more customers you might want to reinvent the flavorings of your soup and some of your other dishes. It's cheap but portions were very small. The sponge cake was moist, spongy, and light. It was very light, so light that you think I paid $1.25 for this. I'm no expert when it comes to sponge cakes. And I know that they're not easy to make. But I can bake and cook and I can tell when something is not right. The cakes are the same way. It needs more cake and less frosting inside and outside. And I don't understand why one has to buy the whole cake instead of a slice. This isn't Costco? Right? Other popular bakeries sell slices of cakes and I know you can do it too. More customers will be pleased, I guarantee you. I know I will be back because of my son but I'm hoping for better quality of food one of these days. One of my friends from home group is celebrating her birthday this Saturday, but since our group meets on Thursday nights, we decided to get her a cake and celebrate with her on Thursday. A week ago, I originally thought to get her a cake from Whole Foods, but as it turns out, the list of cakes that I found online was for the Whole Foods in ANDOVER, MA. Sadness. But then I remembered one of my mom and I's favorite cakes - the Choco MOCHA Crunch cake from Red Ribbon! And so, on Wednesday I put in an order for an 8'' round cake that was only $20.99. When I went to pick it up last night at around 6:15 PM, there was no line, and I was able to give my name and grab my cake... but not before the colorful display case enticed me to grab an Ube Macapuno Roll - $10.99, too. Yup, it's totally the display case's fault. The person who helped me out was really nice and after I pronounced "Ube Macapuno," he asked me if I was Filipino. Most people think I'm Chinese or Korean (I've also gotten Mongolian, too), but I am, in fact, Filipino. :) Good to know I can sound like a Pinay, too, at least when it comes to talking about food! I read through the reviews and looked at the photos of this place before coming here. I know that one person seemed to have an issue with a dry cake, but I can say that both the UM Roll and the CMC cake were moist and delicious. Do note, though, that the desserts here are sweeter than what you might find in other Asian bakeries (i.e. Chinese, Taiwanese, etc.), but not as sweet as what you'd find in an American or European style bakery.
