I have been to the Red Tomato since it opened. Everything I have had has a unique Mediterranean flair with a Mediterranean price which means it is affordable and less expensive than most restaurants; however, its entrees compete with some of the best. I would recommend trying their dishes. They are unique and tasty. And believe you will be going back. read more

This place gets five stars from me, and here's why. (1) It's my son's favorite pizza. He's in that stage when food choices make him feel independent. Pizza is one of the few foods he will eat consistently, and he's become quite the discerning pizza connoisseur. As a lifelong pizza connoisseur myself, it is indeed delicious pizza! (2) While the pizza's terrific, there's also a wide variety of other delicious menu items --including salads, subs, and platters, ranging from super healthy to super indulgent. Something for everyone in the family! (3) The staff isn't only friendly, they're also happy to work with unusual meal requests. ...Take last night for example. I asked for and received the most enjoyable BROCCOLI MARINARA. So, it was a good-sized platter of big broccoli florets, steamed crisp tender, plus two sides of RT's delicious marinara sauce. I added red pepper flakes to the sauce (because I love the heat) and ate my meal with a fork and a knife, making it feel sorta special. Naturally, I think they should add this filling, guilt free, and exactly-what-I-asked-for item to the menu. Sure, it's simple; it's also delicious. Next time you're out to dinner --more for the company, than the desire to boost your caloric intake, and you want something hot--- I recommend the Broccoli Marinara. (4) The fact that Red Tomato delivers is also a plus. (5) As is, the relaxed and casual atmosphere, including self-serve soda fountain with refills. There you have it. The pizza is phenomenal! The restaurant is fairly new and family-run, so you can expect great service, whether you are dining in or simply carrying out. I drove from Fairfax after hearing rave reviews about this place, and I was definitely not disappointed. The portions are generous and the pizza is among the best I have ever had. I even took some slices home, and after heating up the leftovers the following day, both my mother and step-father commented on the delicious taste. First off, what you can take from my review is that this pizza shop will not rectify their mistakes. I ordered two pizzas. One pepperoni with jalapeño on half, and a chicken bacon pizza. Also ordered garlic knots. My delivery guy called about 50 minutes after my order was placed. He told me that he had 3 other orders in my area and that they had forgotten the pepperoni pizza. He would drop this one off and go back for the other one. He told me that I would get a fresh pie made and he would deliver it. I waited almost another hour for my pepperoni with jalapeño on half. That tells me that they had our driver deliver more pizzas on his way back to us. When the pizza arrived it was extremely cold and missing the jalapeño. Being that it was so cold tells me that they didn't even make us a fresh pie. They brought me a cold 2 hour old pie. I called and told them that I wanted the pizza that I ordered. Their response was that we didn't pay for the jalapeño because they forgot to charge us for it. So there was nothing they could do. He knew we ordered jalapeño and despite our pizza being delivered 2 hours late he took it upon himself to decide that we would be content with a cold pizza missing the toppings we ordered. He said that he tried to call and ask if we were okay paying for the jalapeño but we never received a call. I can't believe that over a few jalapeños they were so willing to give up a customer. I buy jalapeños for 89 cents per pound. I think he could have realized his mistake (not charging us for the jalapeño we ordered) he should have just put jalapeño on the damn pizza and called it a day. He may have Been out 13 cents. I'm blown away. I have known other shops bring a free soda or something when they are late. This place never even got me what I ordered. SCUM BAG BUSINESS! YOU GUYS SUCK! OVER A FEW JALAPEÑOS. Best pizza in the area! We've tried lots, and found many that are pretty good, but this is the best. Great crust, crunchy. Great tomato sauce, nice amount of flavorful cheese, not too oily. Only place that compares is in Vienna, but this is the best in McLean or Arlington. read more

Not sure I can put my finger on it, but the pizza was just a bit bland, and I ordered "The Works" it just didn't taste that good. I tried this pizzeria because of an online deal. I did not read any reviews before I went there so I had no particular expectations and as a bit of a pizza snob, was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was very tasty with fresh ingredients. If you like Italian food but prefer something other than pizza, they also have a variety of entrees on the menu (which I did not order). I would give zero stars if I could. I had an on line coupon, which I did not use before its expiration date, but the instructions said the amount I paid ($23) "will never expire and may be applied toward the original goods or services specified on this voucher." I attempted to buy two pizza with the voucher, but was told by two employees they would not honor it. The best they would do was to give me 20 percent off an order, meaning I'd pay roughly $50 for two medium pizzas (counting the $23 I already paid). The second person became argumentative when I again read what the voucher said and then hung up on me. If this is how they treat their customers, or those wanting to order from them, this is not a restaurant with which I wish to do business. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly by a place I was trying to give some business. Unacceptable!! read more

Our family dined inside the small restaurant. A single employee was eating at the only large booth, and he did not offer to let us sit there, so we found a smaller table by the window. The first pizza arrived with pools of grease floating on top of the cheese. My kids were unable to keep the topping from slipping off, revealing a soggy crust underneath. The crust was wet on top, while being tough and hard to cut through at the bottom. When our second pizza arrived our waitress tried to force the hot pan down on the overcrowded table and barely gave us any time to make room. She said she should have brought us a pizza stand. We agreed, and she never brought us one. The whole dinner was a pile of overpriced grease on top of undercooked tomatoes. McLean diners can fare better elsewhere. read more

Love this place! My boyfriend and I usually get a pizza to share and a Caesar salad to share. It's a smaller place but perfect for a local pizza spot. I'm not sure if it's the dough or pizza sauce but overall it's the best pizza in the area. I like that at lunch you can order by the slice. I've tried a few other restaurants along this street but they are mostly run down inside with unreliable service. This is still another mediocre pizzeria in McLean that we could have done without. I ordered two dishes to carry out. The NY style margerita pizza crust was overly chewy, but otherwise OK. But I also ordered the meatball platter, supposedly served on linguine. On opening found dry tasteless chicken breast slices on spaghetti with a very oily sauce. When I called to tell them about the mistake and that I didn't want to drive back to exchange the order, the person who answered didn't seem to care. We tried Red Tomato Pizzeria with our kids (6 & 3) last night and were very pleased. A small restaurant with friendly service and fresh ingredients and ample cheese on the baked pasta dishes. Really - the salad, pizza toppings, pizza dough, etc all were so fresh...I've had good tasty pizza plenty of other places, but I have to say this is the "freshest" good tasty pizza I've ever had! A cafe-like feel. Mostly pizzas, but has salads, sandwiches, calzones. Prices mostly hover around the $10-$12 range. Had the "special," which was a cheeseburger, fries and soda for $7.99. Better than mcdonalds, but they have a lot to learn about burgers. They didnt ask how i wanted it, so i ended up getting a well done burger. It had almost no seasoning, the bun was flavorless and fell apart because it was overstuffed with hard iceberg lettuce and far too many tomatoes. The cheese wasn't melted, and it looked like kraft american cheese. The fries were steak fries, nicely cooked, but had no seasoning, not even a hint of salt. The only thing not terrible about this place is the pizza, and that is still mediocre at best. I ordered the chick parm, and a slice of pizza. The pizza was cold and I was unable to finish it, as if it had been sitting there all day. The salad came and was tasteless, like it had been in a refrigerator for days. Then the chicken park came. A massive portion of overcooked spaghetti covered in a bland, unappetizing tomato sauce. The chicken was obviously not made in house, if it was the chef would have to be crazy. I would not come again, and am still disappointed with the dining selection in downtown McLean. read more
