Pizza slices left behind by numerous members of family.

Got a pizza today, other than pepperoni. The vegetables and the meats that came with it were super small and inadequate. Also, the pizza at this place has been historically too salty.

As a deep-dish pizza lover, they make one of the best! The pizza was perfect, and the service was amazing. The guy who helped me was so patient and friendly, it felt like we were old friends. Great pizza and a great experience!

The gf pizza was the biggest gf pizza i ever had. It was thin and good, but the cheese didnt have much flavor. I wish they put seasoning all over. The next day i added pepperoni and cooked it longer and it was way better. The ravioli was good too i just wish they has gf alfredo sauce. Was a nice find'

Tried the pizza here when it first opened and was not completely taken with the experience. I have not tried it since. However, went by the other day for dinner with my father and we had a couple of pasta dishes. OMG, these are huge bowls, lots of meat, tasty garlic bread, and a very fresh tasting and nice salad that came with the combo meal. All that for I think $11.99 per combo meal! They even have a daily special, which usually comes in a dollar or so cheaper. Great value for money, I would come back for the pasta, and perhaps give that pizza a second chance.

3.5 stars. Really torn between "Yah! I'm a fan" and "A-OK". The Margarita Gourmet Pizza was somewhat of a let down. I usually think fresh beautiful bold colors...green, white, and red of the Italian flag. What the pizza actually looked like was really not so appetizing. The pizza could have really used more of a basil kick, but otherwise not a bad tasting pizza. Another point of confusion is that we've been here a few times already and even though we've ordered the same thing, we've not gotten a salad the first time, the second time we got a small salad, and the third time we got a large salad. I guess in the end it evens out, but would be nice to know why the inconsistency. The star of the show in my opinion were the calzones / stomboli. The Meat Classic was definitely loaded with meat and probably lodged in my heart somewhere. But MMMM-MMMmmm. That was good. HEAVY and FILLING but don't eat it all in one sitting. You'd probably die.

This New Yorker finds Red Tomato the closest to a NY pie in McLean, where good pizza is hard to come by.

They accommodated our gluten-free request, but only after the server had to go check with the kitchen. I also asked for a side of the squid ink pasta, which again, she had to check with the kitchen after saying no first. We went on a Sunday night, so it was quiet and perfect for catching up with friends. But as mentioned, the service was just so-so. It wasn't completely awful, but it just was not great. Our server's demeanor was lukewarm to say the least. Server said no right away to our requests, until she asked the kitchen, who accommodated (ie GF option and side of squid ink pasta). Perhaps she could have said "let me check" before saying "no" right off the bat, before checking with the kitchen or manager! Just sayin'.... She also started killing flies with the zapper at the bar while there were customers at the restaurant. The bar had glasses and plates set up so it was a little discomforting. Where did the dead flies drop into??? And really, who wants to see that?? After dinner, she dropped off the little handheld payment thingie and never came back. Again, the food was excellent and I may return for that alone. But now I know what to expect (or rather, not expect) for service!

Nestled along Old Dominion Drive, The Italian Oven is the kind of neighborhood trattoria that…read moretrades culinary theatrics for something far more enduring--warmth, familiarity, and a deeply satisfying sense of Italian home cooking. The restaurant describes itself as a place "where guests feel like family," and that ethos permeates the entire experience, from the convivial dining room to the hearty, classic dishes that arrive at the table. This is unapologetically a family-style local Italian restaurant, the sort where dishes are generous, conversations linger, and regulars greet the staff like old friends. The menu leans toward comforting Italian standards--pasta, seafood, and classic parmigiana dishes--prepared with an emphasis on simplicity and satisfying flavor rather than modern reinterpretation. The Oyster Chowder makes for a particularly inviting beginning. Velvety and indulgently creamy, the soup carries a gentle brininess from the oysters that balances the richness of the broth. It is the kind of starter that quietly sets the tone for the meal--comforting, generous, and thoughtfully seasoned. Among the entrées, the Eggplant Parmigiana stands out as one of the finest renditions in town. The eggplant is delicately breaded and cooked to a tender, almost silky consistency before being layered with marinara and melted Italian cheeses. The result is deeply satisfying without feeling heavy, a classic executed with admirable restraint. Equally impressive is the Calamari Marinara. The calamari itself is remarkably tender--no small feat in a dish where rubbery textures are all too common. Here, the seafood is perfectly cooked, lightly crisp where it should be, and paired with a bright marinara that adds just the right acidity. To conclude, the pistachio gelato offers a gentle, elegant finish. It leans toward the creamy side with a subtle pistachio fragrance and only a restrained sweetness--refreshing rather than cloying, and an ideal palate cleanser after a hearty Italian meal. In an era when many restaurants chase novelty, The Italian Oven succeeds by doing something far more meaningful: delivering dependable, soulful Italian comfort food in a welcoming neighborhood setting. It may not strive for haute cuisine, but its warmth, consistency, and well-executed classics make it a quietly cherished staple of McLean's dining scene. If anything, the experience feels less like dining out and more like being invited to a generous Italian family table--exactly the kind of restaurant every neighborhood hopes to have.

This was due to the landlord telling her she had two weeks to close her place, as he intended to put a car wash in its spot. I kept an eye on this story. That's how I discovered that Maria Esposito ended up working at her cousin's restaurant, The Italian Oven. Thus, the place had been on my radar, and finally, we got there. We were here on a Saturday for an early dinner. The place was almost empty at the time, so we were told to pick whichever table we wanted. We chose a booth that was by a window. The place does have an Italian restaurant ambiance, complete with checkered green and white tablecloths. Our server was prompt in getting to us. We gave him our drink orders. I had water while my husband had a Heineken Zero. At that time, we placed our appetizer order, which was fried zucchini. Their menu is overwhelming. It was tough trying to figure out what to try. Finally, I decided to try their spaghetti aglio e olio, and my husband had spaghetti with Italian sausage. We both chose to have side salads. The salads had a nice creamy, garlicky dressing. However, they also had an overabundance of button mushrooms, as well as pickled beets. I'm no fan of either of these items, so my husband gladly took them from my salad. As for the zucchini, we got spoiled after all those years of having it at Esposito's. The Italian Oven's version was a close second to Esposito's. My spaghetti aglio e olio was well seasoned. It contained plenty of sautéed garlic, just enough olive oil, and a sprinkle of black pepper. The spaghetti was cooked al dente. My husband liked his dish.

The bad was the hot sauce leaked all over the place through the cardboard pizza boxes. There has to be a better way to contain the sauce without it leaking. A mess on my son's pants and car seat. When we got it home the food was warm to cold. It took only 10 mins to get home. The medium sauced wings weren't crispy but soggy. I had to reheat and recrisp in the air fryer. The pit bbq wings tasted better but also soggy. Wished there was a way on Uber Eats app to customize the order to get the wings extra crispy. The handful of celery was meh. Overall, the food was okay. Not bad but not as good as we have had before in Falls Church.
