Well.. ZERO isn't a star. This place is horrible. The staff are great, the bottled beers come quickly, but my god this food is horrible. It's better to hit a grocery store and make a sandwich in your hotel. Typically there is a line so I pray while you stand there you find anywhere else to eat. But if you follow your heart, like I did, I hope you sit down and just RUN FOR THE FUCKING HILLS. this place is terrible and idk wtf they are doing open. We visited Solvang and merely walking around stumbled on this place. Since it had outdoor dining and we had two dogs, this was the ideal spot to eat. I ordered a Hoppy Poppy beer $ 8.00 which was pretty good and a club sandwich. $ 13.95 Wife had salmon served with choice of soup or salad, she ordered clam chowder $ 21.95 and my son had the fried shrimp and salad $ 15.90. Ate the Combination Plate which had a yummy Medisterpolse Danish Sausage, a Frikadellar Danish meatball (tender & fluffy), a large scoop of mashed potatoes( all covered with savory brown gravy), cooked red cabbage, and a side of fresh cucumber salad. Comfort food at its best, for sure! The service was as good as it gets- attentive, friendly, and courteous. And the restaurant was clean, comfortable, and cozy. Service was fast. I also ordered the strawberry margarita. And right away could tell the margarita was nothing but syrup. I tried it, and it was too strong tasted nothing but cheap alcohol. My wife and I just finished our meal there. Very poor service. They were nice but it took a long time to take our order and the restaurant was mostly empty at the time. They never refilled my water and we were there for 45min. I ordered the garden burger and my wife got a danish sandwich which was a couple slices of cheese on a slice of bread with butter. They served my garden burger ice cold. As soon as she set it down I knew it wasn't cooked. It was completely pale so it clearly just got microwaved from being frozen. They took it back and put it on the grill and it was fine but when she served it again I asked for sauce and she brought me 2 hot sauces. It's a burger with onion rings....ketchup would make sense. Finally a manager or something came over and asked if we needed something and I got ketchup. It was fine but that's pretty devoid of caring for your customer. Staffs were friendly and quick. We were looking for more original danish dishes but the menu only offered a small variety. Came for a dinner on a rainy night and this was one of the few places that opened up that evening. Since they were in the middle-ish area of the Danish Village, we figured to give Danish foods a try. Service-wise, it's a bit of a mess. Might be due to short staffing or due to inexperience, but there was a pretty long wait time to getting the order taken since sitting down. Despite being told bread was on the way, we had to ask for it during the meal since the waiter forgot. Getting the bill and whether or not the waiter was going to bring it up to the front to pay was also dubious. We ended up going to the front to pay the bill, but I don't think that's what they usually do. Food-wise, I had the Hakeboff and the missus had the Swedish Meatball with Danish Sausage plate. Both came with the pickles, red cabbage, and scoop of mashed potatoes with gravy. A Hakeboff is ground meat shaped into a patty and cooked to medium or well done. I didn't know of this when ordering so when it came out medium rare, I was hesitant to eat it. Touching the middle part of the patty, it was barely warm to my touch so I had to ask for it to be re-cooked to well done. Despite the re-cooking, there were still pink parts and regrettably had a less than pleasant experience with the bathroom overnight. I wished they had mentioned the temperature of the beef during ordering as I would rarely get a beef patty medium, more or less, medium rare. Seasoning-wise, it was just salt and pepper. It reminded me of a loco moco without the gravy. The mashed potato and gravy were very standard and not much to write home about. On the other hand, the pickles and red cabbage were nicely done. The pickles had a great pickled flavor behind time as well as a crunch. The red cabbage was tender and had a very nice sweetness to it. For the Swedish meatballs, we could taste that it was made from a recipe and not from a store. Not hand-made, but better than a frozen meatball I would say. The texture was very firm, but the seasoning was nice. The sausage was about normal, but lacked as much seasoning as the meatballs. A bit-off put off by the experience of the food here considering the main entrée wasn't what we enjoyed more versus the pickles and red cabbage. The portion sizes definitely didn't match the quantity given and while I understand it's in the middle of the Danish Village (touristy), I would much rather spend the money elsewhere than here after this experience. Not suggested to give it a try despite being an iconic location in Solvang with history behind it. read more

We got the smorgasbord all you can eat buffet 15.95$ per person. This comes with about three types of bread and butter. They have an ok variety of food, but it was all pretty average/mediocre in taste. Their pickled cucumbers were delightfully good, but it seems like they were pre-made or bought as they taste just like any other ones from Japanese restaurants. They may be pickled in house by I'm not sure. The eclairs were very good but I didn't try them myself. The pasta salad was really good too. It seemed to have a vinegary flavor which I prefer. There were a lot of flies everywhere. The service was prompt and friendly. Not sure if I would eat here again given the flies and how average/mediocre the food quality is. read more

The place setting don't include a spoon. How are you supposed to stir coffee? The toast is solid...like made for beaver teeth! Only one pad of butter is given with toast. There's various street parking around and public lots just a short distance away. --Food, Drinks & Prices--- Complimentary bread was served when we sat down from a bakery they own. Room temperature rye, wheat, and white bread served with butter. Nice. Grilled salmon w/hollandaise, served w/vegetables (pickled sweet red cabbage) and mashed potatoes and gravy - I think the size of the fish my party members had was decent but somewhat smaller than expected but it did the job. Fish was cooked well. Combination Danish sausage and meatball, served w/vegetables (pickled sweet red cabbage) and mashed potatoes and gravy - I found this be good, nothing exactly stood out and the sausage and meatball were lukewarm at best. Cabbage is pretty sweet. Tasty but I would like to try something else next time, definitely would try the sausage and meatball another give though. The salad was a good size and crisp and fresh. I really want to give this place more stars but after what happened to my companion coming here, I can't. Firstly, we got a late start from LA and got to the Red Viking at about noon. Super cute place which is what attracted me to suggest it. Quaint, cozy and full so it should be good, right? Next, is there a dedicated host or hostess? Different waitresses took our name, do they not communicate with each other? We got our seat rather quickly which was nice. But I came to have breakfast food and they don't have the breakfast menu after noon, bummer! The Ebelskivers are served all day so relief! I did get some and they were delicious. All the while, I was a bit confused if we had a dedicated waitress as well. Different servers came to us to take our order and check on us which was a first and just strange! In the spirit of breakfast, I got the breakfast sandwich which was mediocre and a heart attack at best. I was still in denial this was the lunch menu. Teeny tiny, itty bitty juice glass was a shame too. My companion got the Turkey Burger which was undercooked and he got FOOD POISONING people! Rarely I write reviews on a first time visit however this was beyond poor. For those visiting please take precaution that they do serve uncooked food and try to cover it with their sauces. Average wait time 20 to 30 min. The servers are so busy with training staffs that we had to wait staring at each others for a good 30 min. The food was beyond disgusting. Sausage was bland and tasted cold in the middle which I had sent back which they had forgotten. You can see from the photo not a single burn in that sausage. I actually had to remind them when they brought out the check... Everything tasyed pre-made, the red cabbage was served hot, as if they just defrosted since it was soggy. The icea tea tasted very strange, had a particular odor. (4 hours later) stomach problems.... Possible food poison. All in all, food truck would be safer than this place. Yuck! read more
