I was impressed with the flavors and I really enjoyed the sourdough and rye bread that accompanied my fresh salad. I got a glass of cold merlot wine to drink as well. I loved how the table had these red paper table mats that explained the history of Solvang, I always like learning about the history of places. The service was friendly but I noticed there were so many tiny fruit flies all over the restaurant! It was a little annoying having to swat the away. The bathrooms were alright but not the cleanest in Solvang. The traditional dishes of this establishment are what really make this location stand out. We had lunch here per recommendation from the visitor center, in hindsight we'd much better off with a quick yelp search. The place is casual and relatively plain, service was OK, so was the food. We were looking to experience Danish food, ordered the sausage platter and Danish meatballs; also had a cup of soup and some drinks. Not sure if this is how the food is suppose to be, both dishes were kind of bland and on the heavier side. There were four sausages in the plate, three of them were very similar and mild, the hot sausage was very spicy. We actually enjoyed the pepper and onion more than the sausages. The meat balls were tender without a whole lot of texture, served with mashed potato and s/s red cabbage, I ate all the side salad. Soup was just OK. Now I'm not a Danish food connoisseur, but I do love to eat and I do like good food. While in Solvang, why not do what the Danes would do...EAT! This location has an outside eating area and allows you to people watch and feel as if you are not cooped up inside if you are worried at all about social distancing. The tables are spaced appropriately and there was not a long wait for outside seating. My dish of choice was the Danish Meatballs covered in gravy on mashed potatoes, red cabbage and pickled cucumbers. When I saw there were 2 meatballs I was worried I would still be hungry after eating, but it was enough to make my belly full. The texture of the meatballs were smooth and tender. The gravy was drizzled over the meatballs and the potato and left me wanting just a little more. The cabbage was warm and delicious while the cucumbers added a chill to the meal. Hubby enjoyed the open faced Danish Tilsit sandwich. I had never seen an open faced, 1 bread sandwich before and he ate it with his fork and knife. The sandwich was served with a scoop of potato salad on a romaine leaf with a beet and slice of orange. My Hubby said he really enjoyed the meal and we both enjoyed a glass of iced tea. I ordered the ground sirloin, which came with purple cabbage, pickles, and mashed potatoes with gravy, and I chose the soup of the day as my side, which was potato bacon soup. There was also a 2 for 1 deal on bottled beer for happy hour, and although I prefer draft to bottled, I also thought it'd be good to save money. Even though the bread was simple and arguably dry, I enjoyed it because it is different from the typical bread you'd find in Southern California. All of the sides were tasty, and the sirloin wasn't too bad, but I decided I don't like it ground. The beer was imported and hit the spot on that hot day. My roommate ordered the Danish sausage and meatball, which honestly I wish I had ordered because she really liked it. It also came with the same side dishes. Service was slow but friendly. We went here after exploring the Hans Christian bookstore museum and walking thru the car show. It was a pretty great day and I was enjoying the food and beer that we ordered. The food is not bad at all. The staff is quite friendly. The menu has a lot of items. They have ableskievers here you can order while dining here which will save you time from the long lines of nearby places. It is wheelchair accessible in the sense that there are no steps/stairs, but the tables and chairs are a little crowded inside. The tables by the front entrance have a little more space and might be more accommodating. There is also one table with a few chairs outside. There are two restrooms inside at the back, one for ladies and one for men. The ladies restroom has two stalls. I think the overall experience would be improved on with better organization, maybe it's a lack of proper management? There were a lot of things wrong with our order, such as sides missing, or the wrong sides brought out. The staff is so busy that it was hard to tell anyone about the missing items or mix-ups. They just looked too busy to check up on tables at all or refill drinks, but they were still friendly if you stopped them as they're walking by. They are possibly understaffed because even the cooks were bringing food out. One table next to us had to complain about their food not being ready yet despite them arriving and ordering before us and another table that had food brought out first. Also on our bill there was an extra charge for something we did not order, so we had to have it removed. By the way, there is an extra charge of $20 for having a party of 6 or more. I have seen that in most restaurants in Solvang. Despite all of that, it is still one of the restaurants in the center of Solvang where you will probably get your food faster than other places because there are usually very long waiting times during busy hours. Here it was only a 20 minute wait for a table, while others it was one hour. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. read more

Oh the Red Viking! I stumbled upon this restaurant as I was strolling through Solvang. This restaurant is located right on Copenhagen Street. It is also a couple blocks away from the Mission. It is so close that you can hear the bells from the mission. Currently you can dine in the middle of Copenhagen Street for this restaurant. Overall the food is great for lunch. It is just the right amount of food for yourself. Only downfall was the fact they were out of some of the side dishes.
