Tried out Red's for the first time and ordered a grilled cheese with bacon. I wanted some coffee too so I got a shot of espresso. The cheese was barely melted and lukewarm, and the espresso was astringent and hard to put down, had to add cream just to finish it. Mind you I've been a barista for years and I have not tasted an espresso so bad in a long time. My wife wanted pancakes but didn't want a lot of food. When she ordered the pancakes the waitress asked if she wanted 3 pancakes or just one. She was delighted because that meant she could just have one pancake and she ordered a hot chocolate as well. When it arrived it was the largest pancake I had ever seen in my life, it was literally a monster and was as big as their largest plate. I could not understand why the waitress would offer that without explaining that the batter for the 3 pancakes would be combined to make one large pancake. It was bitter on the outside and burnt. The hot chocolate was below average and the service wasn't great either and didn't even give us her name. Overall disappointed because I've heard a lot about this place and just wasted my money. If the waitress had just explained that the pancake was a monster pancake and if the cook just knew how to cook a simple grilled cheese maybe it would have earned another start or two. read more

we loved this place! found this place randomly and really enjoyed eating breakfast here during our short stay (two days in a row!). there's four of us and a baby, the staff were very accommodating and sat us at big tables. the food here is excellent and fresh, the portions are HUGE, i mean, HUGE. -two eggs plate: sis got the ham (ham was kinda salty), bro got corned beef hash another day. the corned beef hash was seasoned just right, very tasty. we pretty much devoured my brother's plate. lol. -omelette: got the western and red's all meat omelette. they're not the fluffy kind i prefer, but they're stuffed to the brim with meats and fillings. the all-meat omelette had bacon, steak tips (really tasty), etc. -belgian waffles: light, airy, crispy. -pancakes: huge, think bigger than personal pan pizza size and we barely put a dent in it. lol. -eggs benedict: perfectly poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, bacon, perfect combo. -chicken pot pie: i felt like eating pot pie for breakfast, so what? haha. the chicken pot pie had lots of chicken breast strips, carrots, peas in a savory white sauce, topped with a piece of puff pastry. you also get a choice of mashed potatoes or rice, i got mashed potatoes and it was really dry. mixed it with a bit of pot pie gravy and i was good. -brewed coffee: kinda sour, but hey, nothing a bit of creamer and sugar can't fix. while eating, we always wondered how did the owner makes money if they were serving such huge portions? lol. great environment, excellent staff, quality food, it was a very good experience. read more

Went to Red's Kitchen + Tavern tonight for dinner. Didn't take any pics of everyone else meal because I was surprised by the size of my husbands burger. But I guess with they name it the Mammoth Burger I shouldn't have been surprised. He said is was very good cooked perfect Med Rare. he ate a little more than 1/2 (wanted to save room for dessert) This was only $16. I had the mushroom raviolis a little too much sauce for my liking, but was good. My daughter had the chicken parm and my son had the chicken, brocolli and ziti alfredo. All good and leftovers for lunch and each meal was only $14. My mom got the fried chicken which she like the onion rings a bit on the soggy side she had leftovers also and was only $10. It would be one thing for the food to be bland and disappointing--which it was. It would be another for the drinks to be subpar--which they were. Both of these things alone are not enough to leave a review because you are LIVID--which I am. It is nowhere near acceptable for the manager of an establishment to make someone feel as low as the manager (Annette) made my fiancée feel tonight. We were with friends celebrating a birthday. We dealt with such a kind sever (Aiden). If the manager had never come to the table with her poor attitude, his kindness alone could have redeemed our experience. We told him that she did not like her food (steak) and asked for a replacement instead (burger). Simple, easy, and done with grace. I want to stress...the interaction between us and Aiden was so kind and I appreciate that. The manager decided that this request was of such an inconvenience that she returned with the food and demanded to know what temperature to cook the steak to since "this is medium." My fiancée never argued the temperature, only that the food tasted burned. In response Annette decided that a patronizing tone an attitude that our whole party agreed was unnecessarily aggressive was appropriate and responded with "well that's because it was cooked on a grill." I've extensive experience in commercial kitchens and all of us have had grilled food before. To insinuate that were so ignorant as to be bothered by food that's advertised as grilled is insulting. This, however, was not the core of our issue. When Annette returned with the new burger she thrust it toward my fiancée with much of the same attitude and aggression that she'd previously given us. We were all shocked and questioned if we had actually witnessed such rudeness. Incensed, a member of our party went out of her way to find the manager and tell her that her behavior was inappropriate and uncalled for. Instead of an immediate apology the manger decided to ARGUE with our friend. Annette returned a few minutes later with the most lackluster apology I've experienced in quite some time. She apologized to the whole table even after we told her that only one person truly deserved her apology. Why patronize someone for a dinner correction? What kind of bad day are you having that someone has to be made to feel low, guilty, or bothersome foe food that is being PAID for? Why argue when someone tells you that your behavior is causing not only discomfort, but bold offense to your patrons? Why give a haphazard apology or revisit us at all? Annette is insulting and completely ruined what started as a celebratory event. To Annette directly--if you cannot emotionally manage through the stress of your own life, the restaurants demands, or what what er other excuse you think made this whole interaction okay--do NOT speak to the guests. read more

The food here is generally excellent. The two stars are because they've started charging outrageously high prices. Thirteen for a burger/fries plus iced coffee cost me $20 for lunch. And I had to return the first burger. I asked for it rare, true. But it was so rare that it was raw. Second one was great. This used to be a fairly, almost reasonable spot to eat. Not anymore. We came in for a late breakfast on Sunday afternoon. We have heard great things about this place as a Salem institution, and we were not disappointed. We both ordered veggie omelettes with grilled bagels, and i also added a side of bacon. Our omelettes were excellent, though my bacon was pretty fatty and not crispy. Most likely a one off. The service was decent, though our server could have really cared less. The other servers were very engaging with tables around us, however. Overall, our experience was very decent, and we are curious about their 5 infused vodkas which include pineapple, cherry, cucumber basil, berries, and a special hot pepper blend for the bloody mary's. I'm really surprised that I haven't reviewed Red's yet when I've been here probably a dozen times. The food is always great, it's relatively inexpensive, they have a massive menu, and the place is always packed. The only real fault here is that the staff is totally hit or miss. You'll get someone who is an attentive and accommodating server one time, then the next get someone who is miserable and pays very little attention to your table. It doesn't seem to matter if it's busy or not, either. Still, the food is quite good and they can accommodate large groups. I'll keep going back. Red's is fairly priced, has comfortable seating, and good food. We have gotten both great and not-so-great service before. The food comes out quickly and drinks are good. The Bloody Mary's are crazy big and delicious! I totally recommend them for lunch and dinner, but especially breakfast. If you sit at the breakfast bar, you don't have to wait in the ridiculous lines. The coffee is good and so are the breakfast plates. We made reservations on the fly and they came thru for us. 7 people and a high chair, awesome for them to do that for a friends birthday. For starters the review is mainly on the food because the service shouldn't bring this place down. Our waiter wasn't the greatest but it wasn't pleasant either. Everything was tossed, very attitude driven most of the time and when it came to the bill. She wasn't happy with the end result on the actions we wanted to take. Didn't want to listen on how we wanted to spilt the bill, jumping to conclusions right away with out really listening. But overall the food is what we came for and it did not disappoint. I really wanted breakfast at 2:30 almost 3 and they stop serving it at 1pm. But I was in a fat boy kind of mood and the mammoth burger seemed like the way to go. Holy crap I really might it be hungry for the next few days because this was like a food challenge then just a basic meal. We only have breakfast or brunch at Red's, and of course its always on a Sunday. The main items that keep us coming here are the ultimate bloody Mary's, lobster asparagus Benedict, lobster scallop Benedicts, and the corn beef hash. Pancakes are huge but honestly, who dines out for pancakes? The wait on Sunday can be a hot mess because there's no where to stand... And people can easily get lost tracked of. Hostess can tell you 25-30mins for a table but you may end up sitting at the counter. Service is okay. I think because it can be so pack, they can forget about you although, they try to be courteous. Menu affordable, I supposed that's why its always pack. But then again, other than the craving for the four items above. The place is pretty average. read more

I always come here in the morning. Today I brought my friend to try it out. We both work in restaurants so we understand how customer service works. My friend got a bowl, and she didn't like it it just wasn't what she was expecting. So we let our server Karen know. She had told us it was not her fault that we didn't like our food. That we ordered it and now we need to pay for it. We were shocked just because we are servers and we would never make a customer pay for something they do not like. She never offered us something else which is what normally you would do. We wanted to order more appetizers and a few more drinks. But after that encounter we just decided to leave. Red's was pretty touch and go for a while, but I'm happy that they've stepped up their game. I heard through the grapevine they have some new kitchen people? Well if thats true it definitely shows. After they opened for dinner this season, I was a tad disappointed to see that they got rid of a few item menus. My favorite used to be their short rib dish, which was easy to split between two people and extremely flavorful. I however have found a new favorite. My go to dish now is the mushroom ravioli. Usually pastas are overly cheesy, over cooked, or bland. This has flavor upon flavor, and they give you a huge portion. I always bring home at least half of my pasta! I tried the caesar salad with chicken the other day and it blew my mind. They put some balsamic on top of the caesar, and you'd think it would spoil it, but it actually adds so much flavor I was shocked. My only gripe about this place is their desserts. They always look so good but its usually the same assortment of slices of cake and whoopee pies. For me they are too sweet. I wish they had some less sweet desserts, or lighter desserts. maybe even a chocolate mousse would be a good balance? Not sure, but I definitely love getting dinner here with my folks. read more

Ate at Red's Kitchen last week with members of my family. I was very disappointed. Had the chicken pot pie lots of gravy, huge pieces of carrots and VERY LITTLE CHICKEN. Reminded me of something you get with a frozen dinner you heat in the microwave. Went today for ( a late Sunday) breakfast , it was mobbed.... I mean , jam packed. I had never gone in the morning, only at night. Even though, they were incredibly busy our food was delicious and I love the service here. My daughter had the avocado toast, with poached eggs, I had basic eggs/ bacon/ pot/ toast b fast ; I find the inside of the restaurant to be very comfortable it's modern yet clean and I like the Decor. I think it is family owned and that might be part of the reason why their service is consistently good anytime I go here. I called prior and placed an order for take out because I did not want to dine in. They told me 30 mins and your order will be ready. Ok cool I need to get gas and just kill some time. I arrived and spoke to this blonde girl who went to check my order. So, this little girl tells me my food is not ready until a few minutes. Cool, then she rang me out. Now I am sitting for half an hour for my food. I ask her again hey is that my food right there? She goes and supposedly checks and its not my food. I am like ok so I sat down and waited some more. Now, I literally waited for 1 whole hour. She comes to me and says oh "I am so sorry they did not even started making your food" im like wtf in my head. So, she says they are starting your order now. I LEFT to my car because I am so annoyed bc when she apologized ahe was like smiling. Her apologies were not sincere at all. TEN mimutes sitting in my car she calls and ask if I left? I had an excellent sliced sirloin steak last night at Reds Tavern ! It came with a tomato salad and chimichurri sauce ! I ordered it medium rare but it was a little undercooked but it was still delicious! I live in Danvers and they have half price in March so it was a good bargain! The only negative thing I can say is I sat at the bar and the service from the bar tender was terrible! I made my decision very quickly and put my menu down which indicates that a person is ready to order! The bartender basically ignored me and I had to almost yell across the bar to get his attention that I was ready to order and the same thing when I wanted the check ! Also I told him I lived in Danvers and made sure what I ordered was eligible for the half price deal and he said it was but when he gave me the check the discount was not taken off and I had to flag him down again so he could fix it ! But all in all the food was good and I will go back but if that same bartender is there I will sit at a table ! read more

Gross and bad service. First they didn't have the first two apps I tried to order. The third one I chose came and arrived with a hair in it. Next I watched the waitress use her bare hands to get cake out of the display and had her hands all over it. The final straw was when I saw the same waitress drop something off someone's plate and casually picked it up off the floor and place it back and serve it.
