Went here on June 30th for dinner. I guess I had high hopes and I never wish a place to go under but perhaps Red's deserves it. Ordered the 'Siam' Chicken and it came out mostly raw in the middle ... did not touch the rest of the plate. Server took it back and they sent the same plate out 5 min late obviously microwaved. Turned the meal away and the server apologized and comped the meal, also said they'd bring out a fish version for me to take home as I had lost my appetite. It was a piece of old dry white finish with yellowish broccoli and over cooked rice. The broccoli was not even trimmed so the bottom still had dirt on it!! What a joke!! I will never go here again ... the owners should fire all of the kitchen staff and general manager now and rehire people that know how to run a restaurant. WARNING!!! This place is the best restaurant on route 1. It beckons you from the big sign that you can see from a distance, to the nice interior of the establishment. Put this one high on your list to try. They have a nice variety on their menu. This place makes a delicious kielbasa omelette. Some places will give you small pieces of kielbasa to save money, but this place gives you big pieces in your omelette. And the kielbasa is very fresh. Red's gives you a good amount of homefries to go with it, almost to the point that you can't finish them all. They also have the most savory steak. This ambience almost seems like it attracts an older crowd, and it does, but you will see some young people there. Other than the food, what you will notice most about the place is their serpentine stool area that gives it a a very special appearance. But don't worry, they have plenty of contemporary booths too. In some ways, it is almost like old school diner meet modern restaurant. Either way, you can tell they put a lot of money into this place, both interior and exterior. And I don't mean to diss the service by harping on other things. They have very good service here that went above and beyond. Everyone is very friendly, very polite, and very accomodating. You know that part in Seinfeld when George asks "what's wrong with her" and Jerry says "She is too nice." I feel that way about a lot of the people here. But that is a good thing. Definately give this place a try. A lot of things on the menu are under $10, and you can get very good food here for under $10 dollars. Red's is now my go to place on Route 1. read more

We went here on a Saturday with high expectations since the place was PACKED. We were sorely and quickly disappointed. - Service was slow, - Hash benedict was bland. The hollandaise sauce looked like a science experiment -- it was gloopy, orange, and started to solidify by the end of our meal. Yuck. - Buffalo wrap tasted like those snack wraps you get from McDonald's. Not terrible, not excellent, and definitely not worth $6. - Blueberry bread french toast tasted off... It was too sweet and too cakey. - Greek omelette was delicious. - Home fries were bland. Everything was disgusting, except for the Greek omelette. But if you're going to offer such an extensive menu, you better make sure that everything you make tastes decent. Completely missing on 3 out of 4 dishes is unacceptable. read more

I give this 1 star since you can't give any lower. We went for dinner on Friday night - will never go back. While the food was decent the service was the worst I have ever had. First we waited 15 minutes for our waitress(michelle) to get to our table, she poured water then quickly walked away. So about 10 minutes later she reappeared tableside after she had passed by us about 6 times. She never asked if we wanted a drink, just " do you know what you want?" We placed our order then waited another 10 minutes for bread. After recieving our drinks, the food came pretty timely but not by our waitress - a kitchen runner had to bring it. Michelle never came back to ask if we were ok, wanted another drink, as a matter of fact the couple next to her had to flag her down twiwe just to pay the check. As if it couldn't be more fun another hostess (Lisa) must have been great friends with the folks on the other side of us. She brought out pictures of her dog and I got the pleasure of dining for the next 10/15 minutes with her ass in my face!!!! We were never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. We had to flag her down to get our check then again to pay it. I have never in my life not tipped, I worked my way through school bartending & waitressing but this was just RIDICULOUSLY bad. Now to add insult to injury when we told the manager what happened his response - "Well I hope your next time will be better" REALLY!?!? You think there will be a next time - OMG LOL!!!! When I am asked I may not recommend a place but I will specifically tell friends to avoid REDS at all cost unless the like poor service, someone's ass in their face and a manager who has no idea what customer service is. We've been to Red's many times over the past year and every time it has been a pleasant experience. We've only been for brunch, so I can't speak to their lunch or dinner offerings. It's also worth mentioning that on Sundays it is only breakfast and then dinner (no lunch menu). The breakfast menu is extremely reasonably priced. Almost everything is under $10, with a few exceptions for their steak and lobster dishes. Most recently I had the filet-mignon eggs benedict which was delicious and filling. The staff has always been friendly. Our orders are taken immediately and the food is brought out as soon as it's done being cooked. Even when the parking lot is full, they still always manage to find a table for us. Red's will continue to be our go-to for weekend breakfast and brunch. read more

For BRUNCH - Let me just say Red's is not terrible but it is definitely not great in my opinion. Arrived 12:30PM on a Saturday, party of 4, was told a 1 hour wait for a table. (Side note, I just do not understand why restaurants do not take reservations? This place was CLEARLY a mad house [understatement] well before I got there. People standing around everywhere, crowding the door, bar, hostess stand.) I wondered, is the food really that good? Well turns out the food is OK, but I think people come here because the prices are very affordable and with large portions. Waited in the bar area for my name to be called, after 30 minutes I went back to the hostess stand to check and see where my party was on the list. Hostess said my name had "already been called a while ago." Granted the place was packed and noisy, but I was 8 feet away from the hostess stand and did not hear my name. Luckily the manager was also at the hostess stand so he seated us right away. Our waitress was nice, and our food came out fast. She did glare at us when we asked for lemon in our water, and one water with no ice. Also, maybe it is just me, but all the food looked very BROWN. The eggs, the sausage, the bacon, the potatoes. I was also disappointed there aren't any "healthy" options on the menu i.e. egg whites, salads, or even avocado toast? Then the bill came, amongst the 4 of us, we were going to split it evenly on 2 cards, but with the cocktails all on 1 of the cards. The waitress looked at us like we each had 6 heads and said "Sorry, I don't know how to do that, Honey!" ...like...I don't know how else we could have explained it? There's a bit of competition in the North Shore for great breakfast, and the original Red's in Salem definitely ranks as a top contender. But when this Reds-on-Steroids opened on Rt. 1 a few years ago, I was skeptical. How good can a restaurant the size of a warehouse really be? Especially one that sets its own bar to the highest echelon of breakfast deliciousness by name alone? Ballsy to say the least. My first time at Red's was a pleasant surprise -- dark interior that stays impressively true to a "diner" experience, even with all that space (and there's a LOT - which is good for seating/waiting purposes). Service at our table was good. Breakfast was the bombbbb dot com. I am picky with my omelets and am unafraid to send it back (rather have it full of spit and cooked correctly then runny!), but the eggs here were delish. The menu is pretty huge, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. I came back on New Year's Day 2014 with a friend, and understandably there was about a 20 minute wait for two. However, there were about 15 seats open at the double curved diner bar, so we sat there. The seats are uncomfortable just because there's no back (but hey, that's what it's about I guess.. I mean, I probably would have elected to go chairs with backs for patron comfort, but the backless stools are more authentic to the decor and vibe, so I won't take points away for that). Our server was quirky but gave us good service. My spinach, tomato, and feta omelet was fantastic - eggs were cooked perfectly, plenty of ingredients inside, and the combo was perfection. Just enough food. I asked for no hash browns (and then wept .. damn diets!) and the waitress offered me sliced tomato instead. I ordered wheat toast dry, and it came out dry (not always the case elsewhere!!). Seems simple, but how many times do servers mess up simple orders, AMIRIGHT!? Not here. Both of our breakfasts came out just as ordered, quickly, and were delicious. The bill was about $9 each including tip, so I have absolutely zero complaints over value here. Came here for a late breakfast yesterday. The place was packed in the dining room (had trouble finding a parking spot kind of packed). There were two large u-shaped counters at the front, which the hostess told me were first come first serve (after telling me of the 35 minute wait) so I nabbed a spot. The menu was extensive, offering a large breakfast and lunch selection. Ordered the steak bomb omelet and was not disappointed. It came with the typical home-fries and toast. We had to ask someone after we sat there for 20 minutes. Food was ok - lots of things I wanted to try but nothing special. I heard the Red's sandwich Shop in Salem is better but I have never been. Very disappointed but not in the food but the customer service. I called from SC to Reds in Peabody to order two gift cards and asked if they could mail these to my work in Plaistow NH. 9 days ago they took the money out of my account. Too date I have not received anything. One of the workers stated that they mailed all of them at the same time 8 days after I ordered them. I have already missed the Christmas party and now it looks like I may miss Christmas also. I would have bought elsewhere if I knew that they were in no hurry to do anything. Waiting for a call back. I absolutely love this place. I think that the service here is extraordinary. They really do very well with large parties and I can go here with my toddler and not feel like I have to be rushed because they ALWAYS keep her entertained. The food is really good, no matter if you are going for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The breakfast/lunch menu is extensive and you have to be crazy to not find something that you like. The dinner specials tend to be really good, and you can't beat the prime rib. The short ribs are also really, really good. The only negative is that they are sometimes out of popular items. The prices are really good in my opinion, especially for lunch. I really could go on and on about how good the waitstaff here is. They keep me coming back. When my sister visits from Arizona our first stop is always Red's. read more

My wife and I have been here about 1/2 dozen times and couldnt be happier. Location is just around the corner from us which is great. Every time we've been here, no matter how busy, they've seated us within 20minutes. The staff is very warm and hard working. The food has been very good ranging from the kielbasa omlette, gigantic pancakes, blueberry french toast, steak tip salad, ravioli, and cod. Yes, pretty basic comfort food but done well and fast. Best place to grab a bite before the movie... Hard to imagine people making negative comments about this place. If you want a 5 star restaurant, stop at the ATM and go to Boston. Not sure why people seem to be so critical about every little thing! Probably do this in many aspects of their life. So, for under $20 beans a plate, you get a good meal with nice staff and a comfortable environment. read more

My boyfriend and I went here on the third day of opening. We were quite impressed. The food was fantastic and came out quickly. We started off with a couple appetizers. One was some kind of duck confit pastry and they were delicious. The other was short rib dumplings which were equally awesome. Although, they were VERY rare. My bf likes them that way. Me, not so much. After I noticed that the party behind us sent theirs back for being too rare, I decided to notify an employee that stopped at our table to let her know that ours were also too rare. I am by no means a complainer, but with it being their 3rd day being open, I figured they would want to know if they need to change the amount of time they cook a menu item if they are consistently coming out raw. Turns out that employee was the owner's wife. She was very apologetic and said she would take them off the bill. We told her that wasn't necessary because we did eat them, and even being undercooked they were delicious. My boyfriend had the short rib entree which came with spinach and mashed potatoes. I had the chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes which came with a pastry puff on top of the stew. We were both very happy with our meals. My son had the macaroni and cheese which was made with a rich white creamy cheese sauce. Very good, although I felt it was missing a crunchy topping. I was a little dissapointed that they didn't have a kid's menu. I had asked our waiter what they could make for my son. He gave me the option of mac and cheese and chicken fingers. Luckily, my son (he's 4 y/o) would have been happy with either of those. They had a lot of homemade cakes and desserts that I which I had left room to try. Next time for sure! Our waiter was great. He seemed a little frazzled and unorganized. But hey, it was their 3rd day and the place was mobbed, so his behavior was completely understandable. The prices were very fair. I would rate this as just OK..nothing outstanding at all.. We came for their "home made" corn beef hash. It my have been home made, but was no better or different than the stuff you get out of a can. The rest of the food was good, but not great. Service was inattentive...our waitress came around a few times, but most of the time our coffe cups remained empty. We were supposed to go to the one in Salem, but I selected the wrong location on my gps. It gets much better reviews, and we will try it in near future. Talk about a hidden gem! I finally got my husband to go here and we have been back twice. The food is fabulous, same with the staff. I have had the steak tips, melt I your mouth beautifully seasoned and so tender the bone in filet was just as good. My husband tried the braised short ribs and was pleasantly surprised by the portions. Said they are the best he has ever had and he's had his share! We will definitely be back again. I have only been here for dinner and I have gone twice. Nice, clean establishment but I can only give it a fair review. The food for dinner just isn't great or good. The garden salad is a bowl of iceberg with a few red onion strips, the rolls were somewhat stale. The kids hot dog was burnt, the vegetables are just god awful. Reds was recommended to me so I decided to give it a whirl. I guess I'm just kind of a restaurant snob because this place really didn't suit my taste. I went with my little girl and first off it smelled bad In there. The rug or something smells liked moldy and dank probably dry beer on or like an old bar. The waitresses seem very very nice although the floor manager walked around looking like she had been sucking on a bunch of lemons maybe she was just thinking really hard. I don't think she was being very nice to the waitresses the food is mediocre I ordered a lobster pie that when I dug my fork into it it hit the bottom immediately it was just a thin layer of lobster pieces tiny pieces w/ breadcrumbs thrown over the top. My kid had a waffle ( hard to screw that up). Noisy and can't hold a conversation. Will not be going back. read more

We have been here a few times for breakfast and once for dinner. The breakfast is very good and very reasonably priced. The service is excellent. The dinner is not as appealing as the breakfast. I had the Fisherman's platter, it came piled high with onion rings and was mostly French fries. It was a little greasy. We also had the chicken parm. The sauce tasted like it came from a jar and the cheese was very oily. We will try again for dinner and try some other offerings. read more
