Note: I am rating the Refinery Jax Beach according to both my experience as a wedding guest as well as my experience as a brunch guest. Wedding: Wow! I knew from reviewing the website and cocktail menu that this was a great pick as a wedding venue, but I was honestly blown away on the night of the event. Service was excellent with an open bar that patrons could walk up to as well as servers roaming throughout the restaurant to take and deliver drink orders. Buffet style food from the cocktail hour to the entrees to the midnight snack was also all high quality with my favorites being the charcuterie and the lobster corn dogs. Ceremony was on the patio and reception was on the second floor -- I'm not sure if every wedding is setup this way, but it made the most sense honestly. Brunch: Oddly enough, the brunch was served on the second floor right where we had been partying for the reception. It was also buffet style and included mixed fruit, sausage links, bacon, waffles, french toast, pasta, and a design your own omelet station. Food was ok, honestly not as great as the wedding food for some odd reason. It seemed like there was not as much focus placed on refilling items as the entire 30-45 min we were there, the fruit platter was not restocked so I had to eat sad cantalope as opposed to fresh strawberries. However, my espresso martini and husband's cinnamon toast crunch martini were fantastic, so I am still rating this 5 stars! read more

This place left a lot to be desired and that's unfortunate since it's a great location but the management practices make me want to keep going by this place. The good I found was in the service... Becky was great kind and accommodating and truly everyone there provided great service...but everything after the kind service fell flat and it's mainly due to the management of this establishment... We went there for a group birthday brunch (12 guests). 1. We ordered buffet style brunch 2. We ordered mimosas but wanted bottomless but their bottomless is that they give you a bottle of champagne per person!!! This is very dangerous especially since they let that woman leave the restaurant, get in her car and drive away immediately following brunch and we were not there for more than 2 hrs 30 minutes to be generous. I only found that they don't permit any sharing of the bottle because I arrived 1 hour later (than everyone else) and didn't have a mimosa so I went to the bar and asked if I could have 1 glass but the female bartender nearly refused me the glass and only gave me the champagne glass after I insisted and she warned me before handing it to me stating: "we have to manage costs so you can order an individual drink but you cannot have any of that champagne, it's how we manage costs." the bartender had a clear view of where we were sitting she already saw everyone on the table had individual drinks...they're lucky everyone stayed safe on this Sunday because I witnessed them letting our brunch guest (older woman nearly 60) dine while seeing she's the only one that drink the entire bottle of champagne and drive out of their parking lot their parking situation is strange some patrons paid for valet (under the direction that valet is the only parking available) one of our guests parked further to avoid the valet costs when parking was in abundance and I parked for free) they do not validate their valet parking like all of the other restaurants do at Jax beach. When I asked valet about the situation he said "some valet let you park for free (he let me park for free) but some don't, depends on the valet attendant." Although parking is in abundance so what incentive for eating at an establishment that has subpar food??? Paid parking and the bottomless is a dui and lawsuits in the making that if anything ever happened to any of my children after leaving this place behind drinks ... they would be hearing from my lawyer so they may want to fix their bottomless practices and especially since they are providing an "unsharable" bottle of champagne and not even monitoring for their patrons safety... that guest drove by herself, ordered a bottomless and drove away by herself... thankfully that's her pattern (but the refinery had no way of knowing that because she don't dine here) but not sure how the average person would be able to drive away after their bottomless...Wow! Just the money hungriness displayed is enough to make me want to leave 1-star but the employees deserve to know they do great work helping their guests enjoy the sub par food and beautiful views. read more

We decided to come here on a whim over the weekend, and by we, I mean it was my husband's idea. I had no clue where we were going until we arrived. We opted to try and sit outside, due the weather being nice, but tbh despite it being in the 80s it was chilly and needed a heater. Our server was super nice, attentive, and always had a smile on his face. He also helped us getting a heater to work. We sat down under the covered patio and ordered a few drinks. We then took some time to look over the menu. We decided to start off with the refinery wings. I will say, I should have asked what aztec sauce was. The wings and drinks came out. So the wings smelled spicy. When I ate one, my lips were on fire, but I will say, while I couldn't handle the spice level, they were cooked really well. My husband loved them. We found out my sister and her family called and decided to meet us, so we asked our server if they had any additional tables outside, but they were all booked. I went inside to the host/hostess stand and asked if they had any tables inside. the hosts were so quick to help and accommodate us, which we were really appreciative for. All the servers, employees we came in contact with were helpful, happy, and very accommodating. When it came time for dinner, I will say their entree prices are pretty high. I opted for a burger (they do have sandwiches/handhelds). My husband opted for their chicken sandwich, and my kiddo got the kid's hamburger meal. First, the good: My husband's chicken sandwich was delicious. The bun was good. The ranch dressing we had with our chicken wings was delicious, so I asked for a side for my fries that came with my burger. My kiddo loved his burger. This was the first time we ever ordered him a hamburger out and he finished the whole thing. We were stunned. My burger wasn't the most delicious one I've ever had. TBH the burger was overcooked. It didn't seem like a handcrafted patty, so that was disappointing. All in all, the staff was great. The outdoor space had a good view. I ordered the Piri Piri chicken and was super excited because half chicken or airline chicken is always my go to when it's on a menu. I can not express enough how bland this chicken was. I had my husband taste it and he agreed it tasted like unseasoned boiled chicken. I couldn't take more than one bite. I sent it back and didn't even ask for an alternative cause I tried my husband's fish tacos and they were also extremely bland so I didn't want to waste money getting anything else. He ate his but we agreed it's no where near worth the price (the chicken was $40). The bread we had as the appetizer was good and we just had soda to drink but the 2 cokes were $10 isn't that insane for soda?! Our server was nice but he was working the bar as well as serving us on the patio so he was very busy. The vibe as a whole was ok in the restaurant just terrible experience with the food. Came here for Easter brunch - my first time visiting. I didn't even know this place was here! It's tucked a way and has fabulous architecture so it blends in with the neighborhood which I really enjoy. It has a fantastic view of the beach. For Easter brunch, there was complimentary valet parking. We checked in with the hostess and had a reservation already. The table was ready and they took us upstairs to the beautiful dining room. The menu was great for brunch. I decided on the lamb chops, since it was Easter and I'm Greek, but all the options looked good. The wait staff was very pleasant and the food was served hot and fresh. The lamb chops were amazing! They cook them to your liking of rare/medium/well preference. It came with broccolini and couscous which was delicious compliments. I think it's proper to eat lamb with your hands, so that's what I did, but others used fork and knife... No desert options for brunch, but that's ok. It was a very pleasant experience and I will definitely be back again. Brunch is only on Sundays. The venue is very spacious. It has plenty of options for private events. They have a bar downstairs as well as an outdoor/balcony bar. There's also a little premade food grab and go shop downstairs. 5/5 would recommend! read more

We have eaten here in the past and it was always great. Unfortunately this time it was horrible. We ordered filets and they were chewy and tough. Tasted disgusting! They were supposed to come medium and showed up very rare. We asked to cook them a bit more and they came back with a new filet - WELL DONE! We let the server know but it didn't seem to matter. The manager never addressed the issue and we left feeling very disappointed. Spent almost $200 for a terrible dinner. We will NEVER go back to this place and I DO NOT recommend it! read more

Brunch review here (I've had dinner here and it was decent, probably 4 stars). Brunch was just garbage. You're paying $29 for the view. Nothing really edible unless you like omelets. And I don't eat eggs. Fruit salad was mostly melon, cheap pastries and bacon and sausage, the worst shrimp and grits that I've ever had (awful mushy shrimp when fantastic fresh caught is easily available at Publix?). Refinery is a beautiful restaurant. The upstairs dining area is inviting and one of the few places in town to have a fancy dinner with an ocean view. The food is delicious. The sprouts app with bacon, honey, parm, and dried cherries is crispy and flavorful. The hanger steak is bursting with flavor from the the black garlic sauce and the asparagus was perfectly cooked. In fact, it is probably the best asparagus I've ever had. Unfortunately, the service was lacking on both occasions I've been to Refinery. The food and drinks take a very long time to get out to you; however, the staff is very friendly when remedying any issues. It seems most likely to be an issue with finding enough staff, and doesn't take away from the overall experience, as long as you aren't on a time crunch. It's hard to keep track of which restaurant is in this location as the name and management keep changing. The view here is so gorgeous but it seems that the location isn't enough to keep a single business here for years. Maybe the Refinery will be able to do just that. I went with a group of seven for dinner and we started with the lobster corndogs, salt and pepper shrimp, and baguette. The shrimp was the stand out appetizer. It was nicely fried and seasoned and a dipping sauce was not needed for it. The lobster corndog was probably the least favorite of any lobster corndogs that I've had. Usually, they have more of a sweet coating which resembles an actual corndog. These were lightly tempura battered and lacked any sort of seasoning. The amount of lobster inside was tiny. We got a variety of other dishes including the scallops, french onion soup, mussels, snapper, and French country salad with chicken and fish. The entrées had mixed reviews. The salting of the dishes seemed a bit (too) generous. In fact, we actually thought our server had accidentally put salt on our food when she indicated that she was going to bring around the cracked pepper. This made my salad nearly inedible. The mussels unfortunately were also too salty. The dining room was beautiful, definitely an upgrade from the last restaurant concept and service was very good. While beautifully presented, the food quality was no match for the beautiful view and nicely appointed dining room. Hopefully in time things will improve. If not, I assume that the next time that I come here, I'll be eating at another restaurant...yet again. read more

Had such a great night on NYE! Hubby and I bought the VIP dinner tickets and scored the early bird pricing. During this entire event we received excellent service and it was well worth the price of admission! There was so much! I'm a pescatarian and I still had plenty of options (including crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, salad, fried shrimp, seafood pasta, rolls, dessert, etc etc). My hubby also enjoy some chicken dish and a beef bruchetta appetizer. My fav was the seafood pasta which had a hefty portion of lobster & shrimp in a cream sauce. Every employee was polished & professional. Such great service. The event seemed very well organized with 3 djs, 3 bars, a photo booth, etc etc. Loved how much everyone dresses up- there was sequins everywhere I looked! Fun yet respectable crowd. There were 2 kinks in the night- the valet said they wouldnt be there when the party ended, so it was first come first serve parking. We were early so it wasnt an issue, but I'm not sure what other people did once the lots were full. 1 bathroom was out of order (but honestly there are 3 locations of bathrooms in this place and the lines werent bad upstairs). They still have 3 or 4 separate areas and we enjoyed the fine dining upstairs. Perfectly appointed and not too overdone. Music was loud enough to drown out other noises but not to the point where you had to speak too loudly to have a conversation. Our wait-team of David and his trainee were excellent. Personable and just the right amount of attentiveness. Drinks were on point and I really enjoyed my smoky old fashioned. My wife's baybreeze was heavy on the pineapple which is just the way she likes it so it warranted a second :) My cioppino was good but I felt it lacked a little something. Not quite sure but it was missing some depth of flavor for me. The lobster corn dog that was included was good but the batter was a little underdone. I imagine it's a challenge to get that just right without overcooking the lobster. The peach butter cake dessert was simple perfection and I'm glad we decided to do that vs. filling up on an appetizer. We typically peruse the desserts before apps to determine which way we want to go and definitely no regrets at all. Well balanced, not too sweet, and a nice crisp edge on the butter cake. The place is running very smoothly for only being opened a month. Consider us fans and I look forward to trying other menu items. They have a sister restaurant St. George's in St. Augustine and this experience makes us want to try that place as well. read more

Great location and upscale ambience ocean front view. Excellent service and awesome food. I ordered the Coulette steak served with wild mushroom demi glace, thousand layer potato and crispy Brussel sprouts with bacon fat and honey. It was tender and flavorful and so were the Brussel sprouts, a touch on the salty side, but otherwise excellent. The layered potato was also cooked well and was crispy and tender but could have been a little higher temperature when served. The dessert was the butter cake served with a peach topping and whipped cream. It was just the right amount of sweetness and the cake has a nice crispy edge. Delicious! read more

High end steak and seafood close to the water. We were in a party of ten and they were able to provide good service. We had several starters to share - the charcuterie board, Brussels and tenderloin bruschetta. All were excellent. I shared a beet salad as a starter and loved it. For mains we had filet mignon, sea bass, scallops, and seared tuna. I believe everyone was happy. I loved my filet. Like every single bite. Mmmmm. I forgot to order the mushroom topper and didn't miss it. I did get to try the black rice side and that was excellent too. For dessert we shared chocolate mousse cake?(not sure what it was called) and the peach Melba(again forgot the name) and house coffee. All delicious. The peach Melba dessert is very special. Get it. I wanted to try it because my grandmother used to make a Melba sauce and I wanted to compare. It's the real deal. Made a reservation on the 24th for a birthday celebration. Called us to say upstairs was booked but we could eat downstairs. Not knowing about the restaurant setup, we accepted. It was loud, no atmosphere and a very small table for 4 people. 6:30 reservation, sat took 15 minutes to get drinks, one of which was totally not what was ordered. Let that slide. Ordered a charcuterie board, not great, just ok. Waitress asked if we wanted to order and we said no because we didn't want to be rushed. She said no way she would let that happen. Well, you guessed right our meals came before we were finished. Was very disappointed! We witnessed 2 other couples walk out with menus in hand. Nothing special or romantic for sure. We were seated at 6:30 out by 7:09! Totally unacceptable! Was so excited to try this place! Horrible! Ruined our birthday dinner for sure. This restaurant is right on Jacksonville Beach with a beautiful view of the ocean. The interior is very nicely done, and the music was delightful. I was being treated to a birthday lunch and looked forward to my meal on the beach. We had a contentious reservation/table choice beginning /table but which the manager quickly attended to it and resolved to our satisfaction. The food was excellent. The large wings were a perfect starter. I would say skip the pretzel and beer cheese dip. It is really not a pretzel and more bagel with cheese in the middle. I'm from pretzel country and this was not a pretzel. My companions liked the grouper sandwich with fries and had hoped the grouper would have been a thicker piece but the flavor was excellent. The conch and cod fritters were nice and crunchy outside with soft interior. French fries had the perfect fry and were not salty. Fish and chips was a decent portion and also was not salty. They had hoped for more flavoring but it was acceptable. I loved my chicken with the plantain cornbread stuffing and the absolutely delectably cooked plantains. The chicken was well cooked and the mango chutney was a perfect pairing with the stuffing. It was large enough for me to have left overs so lunch tomorrow will be perfect. Savannah was very attentive and promptly filled our every request. It was a pleasure to have her. She even took our picture. The prices, as everywhere, is on the high side and definitely more of a $$$ and not a $$. Be warned, the interior air conditioned area with the large windows looking at the beach, is on the second floor and not open for lunch. The only seating that is beach side view is the open patio. There was a constant breeze and thus the heat did not bother us. I would definitely return and recommend to friends. read more

Really yummy. Others had bacon-perfectly crispy-not rubbery; beautiful grits-so creamy! Eggs Benedict on french roll-served AMAZING-little challenging to cut but delish! And the burgers! Giant! Fries nicely seasoned. The beverages require special note-Chandon spritzer-$12/split-so much better than aperol -light, citrusy- gotta get me a bottle!! Bloody mary's are loaded and fantastic virgin and not-still great! Happy hour specials-super! Red velvet mini cake for birthdays ( no candles- fyi). Good food. But the service was terrible. Our waitress was also the bartender. We were not set by the bar but at a regular table in the dining room. Our waitress basically forgot about us. We had to flag down other waitresses to get our waitresses attention. This happened four times. The restaurant was not full. Only at 60% capacity. Bizarre. I'm sorry but it is just weird to be scrolling thru an iPad. A paper menu would suffice. So we were there about 10 min and someone else comes storming up to our table asking if we had reservations and accused us of seating ourselves. We were totally taken aback. It was a really bizarre interaction and I have no idea what her issue was. We clearly didn't seat ourselves - we had the stupid tablets. Does she think we just walked in and grabbed the tablets off the front stand and sat ourselves ? No apology and no explanation. Just really strange. The drinks were decent. The food was mediocre. We chose Refinery for our brunch before bridal shopping. Food was slow coming out, which put us in a pinch to meet appointment time. Omelette of the day was dry and lukewarm. Instead of little cubed potatoes, we had two large hash browns (greasy like you'd get from McDonalds). Not worthy of the $18 charge. Ordered croissants , that were golden on the top. When we picked them up, they were so gooey and undercooked , we could not eat. Most of the orders came out cold. Not sure what was the problem. We could not send back, because we had already been there two hours and had to get to the bridal boutique. We left at 1:20. Only one other table was seated. Empty upstairs and down. This place has been good to us every time we have dined here. The patio is so nice and the inside is pretty cool too. Today we celebrated my husband's birthday and from start to finish it was amazing. The food has always been topnotch. The previous time we dined here we got the hush puppies for an app and I got a salad with a big salmon filet & between the app and entree I couldn't finish my meal. If you come here it's a CRIME to not get the hush puppies. So this time I asked the server if I could get the Caesar salad but also add the hush puppies to it like you would add your protein and he said I could. AMAZING.
