I'm a first timer here, I seen a Facebook post about them serving the biscuit with chocolate gravy, and I had to try. This was something I tried 20 plus years ago at a friend's house. The food looks amazing, right? Looks can be deceiving. The biscuit is nothing but a filler, absolutely no flavor, and the gravy had the consistency (including lumps) of what one coughs up when they have a cold. No amount of salt, pepper, and Tabasco brought it to life. The hash browns coated my entire mouth (teeth included) with a thick coat of grease. The service was great for the customers who obviously got in there often (probably family members and friends), but not so much for our table, since we aren't "regulars", is what I'm thinking. The place wasn't packed, but we sat at the table 20 minutes after we were done eating, and still not a waitress came by to ask if I wanted a to-go container. But what's funny, is each of them LOOKED at my plates sitting there, nowhere near even half eaten, and still didn't ask if I wanted a to-go container. Actually, they didn't even make eye contact with me, but asked everyone else if "anyone" wanted to-go ice teas. Renae, if you're reading this, no disrespect, I strongly urge you to do a blind taste test at a Cafe that would be willing to compare tastes compared to other cooks, so you can see what I'm talking about. Start with the biscuits and gravy and hash browns, seriously. One more constructive criticism; your waitresses need to treat EVERYONE like they're friends, not just the "regulars", because it's very obvious (to off the street customers that don't frequent your Cafe), who comes first as far as taking food orders, whether they have to wait to be seated (or just go to their preferred seat when they walked in), and in an instance that I witnessed this morning, the people that came in after us, got their order put in before ours because they got what they "regularly order", and they got served before us too. In the words of my soon-to-be 12 year old child, "This place is BUSSIN!" Took the fam out for brunch this morning but wanted to try something different than our usual spots, so Yelp to the rescue! I searched for brunch places and Renae's popped right up! I was surprised to see the location since, to me, it seems fairly industrial but we entered and waited to be seated. We were immediately greeted and asked if a small table would suffice since they were pretty busy. The decor was standard: big wooden flag, wood paneling, old car/truck front end used as a business card table, just pretty Americana. Right away we were asked for our drink orders and even quicker, they were delivered! I originally wanted chilaquiles so when I spotted migas on the specials menu I knew just what I was getting! I asked our waitress if I could substitute some other meat for the pork options listed and she said they couldn't exchange items on the specials menu. This is a huge pet peeve of mine as a non pork eater going out for breakfast. I do not understand why restaurants do not offer more turkey options since there is turkey bacon, sausage and even beef chorizo available! Anyway, this started off my experience on a bad note. I had an attitude and really wanted to leave at this point but the rest of the family was starving so I begrudgingly picked the menu up and searched for something...anything. Well after a long, once...twice...three times scan over the menu, I settled on a cheeseburger lol. Now here's where I had to check my attitude. We get our food and it ALL LOOKED AMAZING! The hubby got over easy eggs, hash browns and a biscuit with gravy. When his plates were laid down my oldest immediately grabbed his biscuit and took a huge bite! She moaned so loudly the people in the booth behind us laughed! She made it sound so good I had to take a bite also. It was so soft and good! Needless to say they fought over that one biscuit until it was devoured! He said the hash browns were perfectly cooked. He even went on a whole tirade about how one would achieve the perfect cooking of the inside of the hash browns. My youngest got the kids pancake, egg and bacon plate and she said it was the best pancake she'd ever had! My oldest got the French toast combo and once again, moaned loudly when she cut into her French toast before she even put any syrup on it! When the waitress laid my cheeseburger plate down I was pleasantly surprised by its presentation. My husband even said that he could tell it was run by a woman just from the presentation alone. The burger was served on a toasted brioche bun with crisp lettuce and juicy tomatoes, red onions and American cheese that was perfectly melted on a thick, juicy beef patty! They had mayo and bbq sauce on the side for me to put on as I pleased as well. The burger was delicious! Like, close to the best burger I've ever eaten, delicious! The fries were boring, but I wasn't even mad about it because the burger more than made up for it. Overall, despite a rocky start, we were all very satisfied when we left. Renae's was great tasting, home cooked food. We will definitely put it in rotation amongst our usual go to restaurants. read more

Was really busy but we were seated quickly, received our coffees right away Adam got the hot link and eggs with cowboy potato's and biscuit and gravy . My husband and his work friends have been coming here for a while, but I finally got on the Renae's bandwagon, too! The food is very flavorful and offers a very "home cooked" appeal. The portions are HUGE and, surprisingly enough, its cheaper to eat here than it is to get Denny's or Ihop! The waitresses and hostesses are all very sweet. They walk around frequently checking in on their guests - even when the place was full to the brim, we had the gals coming around to fill up our water, coffee, and even asking if we needed more gravy! This is very much a comfortable diner with a very welcoming vibe. I would recommend Renae's over most other breakfast joints in town! read more

At first, when pulling up to the strip mall, we weren't really sure if we should go in. We opened the door and were very pleasantly surprised of the cuteness and home feel of the restaurant. The service was excellent and servers were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The food was piping hot and absolutely delicious! My husband got the Meanie Omelet that was hot, delicious and had a generous portion of all the ingredients in it. I chose the Tuna Melt. Usually with tuna, it's a hit or miss. Lucky for me, this was one of the most delicious tuna melts I've ever had. It was crunchy, not too fishy, fresh and I enjoyed every bite. The restaurant was clean and inviting. A Warm Greeting and a Hot Cup of Coffee This is rapidly becoming my favorite breakfast place in the whole world for many reasons. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the food is reasonably priced. The portions are perfect for me, so there is no reason to get a to-go box, or walk away hungry. The basic pancake breakfast with 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon, is prepared just right! The restroom is spacious and can accommodate more than one person at a time, so you don't have to wait outside a locked door when The Spirit says move. Finally, the clientele is composed of hardworking locals, who have made Bakersfield and vicinity the wonderful place that it is. October 2024 - First time at this hole in the wall spot. It was a little challenging to find, it's very nestled within industrial buildings, not what I was expecting. Everyone is greeted kindly upon entrance no matter how busy it is, nice touch. Very small waiting area, has nice bar top, but the wait staff pickup the beverages from same area, there's no designated wait staff bar top area it seems, it felt kinda awkward a bit crowded with them yelling over the drink orders. The workers seemed to work well with each other like a well oiled machine. This establishment gets very busy, but they turn the tables quickly. They have specials written on white board and that's where I ordered my dish from. I've never had a Huevos ranchero with sandwich style ham slices layered on the crisp tortilla. Ham isn't may favorite, but others probably love it. It definitely has a diner vibe, many employees very nice and eager to assist. I wanted to like it more, but maybe I give another chance to really like the food better. The pumpkin muffin, warmed up, was really yummy! read more

Stopped in here for my third time, this time it was while I was waiting on my comforters at the laundromat in the same complex. I had bacon and eggs with b&g and hashbrowns and my husband had the chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak was hand breaded and so crispy, it was had delicious flavor! I've been seeing this joint on Facebook recommended to me by so many people, so I had to give it a try. My dad was in town and we decided to have breakfast here on a Sunday morning. We expected it to be absolutely packed and a huge wait because of the day and time, but it actually was fine and the staff was getting tables turned over at a great speed. We were seated after just a few minutes. I really liked the fact that stepping in, you didn't feel like you were in the same shopping center anymore. The decor totally took me into a diner/Cafe vibe rather than strip mall. It was really pleasant. I noted that they were transparent about food cook times at the front for to go orders and loved that they recommended biscuits and gravy for those in a hurry. It totally makes sense to be transparent. I went ahead and ordered a smaller pancake breakfast with bacon and eggs that was purposefully for those who are a little less hungry or trying to be good. My dad got the Bako Omelette I believe, which was really great for those who are hungry looking for something savory. Both plates were perfect, delicious, and the right portions for us and we can't wait to go back and try more! The menu had so many tempting items. Very friendly staff always keeping your cups and mugs full. I am fond of the chile verde omelet. Typically good eggs, bacon and sausage however I tried a burrito and it was kind of dry and bland, and I am also not fond of the county potatoes as they seem to be a little undercooked or cooked in too much oil so there is never a crispiness to them. I came down from San Jose yesterday to visit family in Bakersfield and we all decided to try this spot since they live 5 min away. Everything went well and food was great except for a young lady who was very rude and made us feel very uncomfortable. She took our drink orders but did not greet us or even look at us. Every time she talked to us was with attitude and I could not enjoy my meal because of it. When she came around to pick up our plates, she rudely reached over the table to take the plates interrupting our conversation and not even asking if we were finish. We were the only people of color in the restaurant, so I would hate to think it was related to that. This young lady seemed like she was in her late teens and was blonde. Although the other staff and food was great, I don't think we will be returning because of this experience. read more

Sunday Funday breakfast stop was an amazing first experience here and we've been back probably half a dozen times since! You can sit at the bar or wait for a table. I've seen them accommodate slightly larger groups in their limited space. Just fyi, they share a bathroom with the adjoining church. We usually go for breakfast, which is by FAR some of the best in town. The biscuits and gravy is top notch. Not too peppery and nice and thick. Went in there today for the first time with some co-workers for lunch , boy was it good. I had the pastrami sandwich and I substituted the roll for sourdough, I highly recommended you do that it was delicious. The bread was crispy and the pastrami was perfectly cooked. The pickles are on the side and so is the mustard I love that. And the fries are crinkle cut , those are my favorite. I also had a cup f the clam chowder, they add a bit of imitation crab on top that gives it a little sweet taste to it. FYI if the chowder taste familiar, thats because it's from splash cafe. Overall the service was great and so was the food , I will definitely be going back to chop away at other parts of the menu pretty soon. read more
