Before the…read moretour began, I purchased drinks and was encouraged to buy a bottle I already planned to purchase because it was close to the 9:00 PM sales cutoff. Unfortunately, the bartender who sold me the bottle failed to note my purchase or communicate it to the other staff. When I later picked up the bottle and informed a different bartender that it had already been purchased, he took the bottle from me and refused to verify the transaction, even after I showed proof of payment from my bank account and asked him to look up the purchase by amount and time. Only after the original bartender was located and confirmed the sale was I allowed to leave with my bottle. The entire situation was embarrassing and completely diminished what should have been a great experience. I have a whiskey review channel and have been a devoted fan of Still Austin. A brand is defined not only by its products but also by how it trains its employees to treat customers. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of that standard.

The truest sense of crowd funding comes to life and seemingly thriving. Distillery tours are available for $35 and I strongly encourage folks to give them a visit and check out what's going on. The tasting room is cool + rad. It's like spending time with the greatest people you know. Or maybe it's just the great booze that makes it feel that way? Lol, I kid. It's totally a combo of both. They don't just make whiskey, they've got a gin, tequila (a few) and a vodka as well. I'm a big fan of the vodka. Haven't tried the gin yet. This is a Dripping Springs gem.

This is a unique venue in that it's a bit off the beaten path near driftwood, up in a hilly area. GPS guided us there just fine. The distillery is attached to a church and wedding venue, and the wizard academy (which our friend attended for his whiskey sommelier certification). I think the distillery is their own separate business and entity but the property all seems like one thing. The bartender said crowded barrel isn't run or connected to the wizard academy but they are friendly given the shared love of whiskey. At the whiskey academy, so somewhere on the property, is the wizard's whiskey vault. Now that's a room I'd like to get into. But, I'm not trying to be a whiskey Somme, so I'll likely never see it in person. We had a few cocktails and couple of straight pours. If we had come earlier in the day, I would have done a flight in addition, to get more tastes. Come with at least an hour to spend here. I enjoyed the Anejo agave (tequila) spirit and we bought a bottle of the Snake Wood Whiskey. This is a fun and uniquely flavored whiskey. It's a bourbon finished with Brazilian Amburana Oak which lends an interesting cinnamon like taste. But it's not cinnamon, it's like reminiscent of baking spices. Very tasty. The staff were friendly and happy to chat about whiskey. We enjoyed our time there, wish we had been able to spend just a little bit longer but such is life :)

We all really enjoyed the cocktails. I had the antique fizz and loved the hints of lavender with the taste of the gin. The rest of my family really enjoyed having the old fashions. This is a great place to hang out with family. Plenty of outdoor space as well as places to sit indoors. The staff was super attentive and made great recommendations when it came to food and drinks. My favorite was the Old Fashion Cocktail and the Texas Bourbon Whiskey. We went into the Bottle Shop & Mercantile building which has a tasting bar with tables & chairs, and a sitting area with a big screen tv. They have lots of outdoor seating area to enjoy with live entertainment. Pet friendly. You can also do a tour of the distillery which we did not get to do, but will go back soon to do it. They also sell those beautiful whiskey barrels at a great price. Definitely recommend this great place to hang out with friends, enjoy some good whiskey with a fun atmosphere.

Fear not, the factory (distillery) in Buda isn't going anywhere. The folks here told me the property and buildings are being taken over and another business will be coming in. It just makes me sad because we love it here. We love everything about it and took for granted that it will always be here. The tasting room and distillery are huge and so tastefully put together. See what I did there? Lol. The grounds are the epitome of Hill Country. Amazing views of wildflowers, brush, and sky all about. Lots and lots of outdoor patio seating, food truck area, large indoor seating, tasting bar, large ordering bars, gift shop, games, and lots more. I'm reviewing as they're leaving because this is another one of those draft reviews that I've been waiting to be finished for a long time. I gotta get better at that lol. But I am so very glad that I got to experience a beer from Blue Owl. I really enjoyed it a lot! The beer that Steve and I had was called Spirit Animal. This beer was a sour and a pale ale that was kind if blended together it seemed making it very unique and tasty! Nothing in the flavor profile was too sweet about it at all. The sour feature was in full effect and it was great! Flavors to detect and have fun with this beer are sour, tart, hoppy and dryness. I think that part, the dryness I liked best. The beer is nice and light bodied which is a great fit for when Austin cranks up the southwest and summer heat!

I had no idea what to expect from Texas wine, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met with our tour guide and other guests. Then we hopped on our sprinter van and headed about 40 min outside of town to start our tour at Driftwood Winery. I really enjoyed the wines and we ended up purchasing a bottle to enjoy along the tour. Next, we went to Fall Creek Vineyards. This setting was beautiful, but I didn't love the wines as much. I did love that they had plenty of snacks so you could make your own charcuterie board. Snacks are a must when drinking wine all day. Last, we ended closer to the city in the St. Elmo District at Austin Winery. The tour is about $70 and then you pay for your wines at each stop. I had a fabulous time with our tour guide and tour mates. Would reccomend this if you're looking for a day excursion in Austin.
