Reasonably priced down home cooking with huge portions and great service. The interior is cozy and cute. Their bacon was cooked perfectly and so were the hashbrowns that came with the huevos rexeros. Cute cafe on busy Pacific Ave. The food came out quickly and it was okay. The sausage had been sliced lengthwise and was grilled so it was a little dry. The french toast was made on thickly sliced squaw bread so it was tasty and filling. The coffee was a little mild for my taste, but it was hot. My complaint and reason for the 3-star review was based primarily on service. There were 2 servers working both dining areas so coffee refills both of them were milling around the entire restaurant and although the restaurant was small, they had difficulty serving timely. I waited 5 minutes trying to get their attention for a refill. The other issue regarding employees was about the busser. He kept coming into the restaurant and was very loud while talking with a particular customer. He was also walking around whistling a high pitched non-song...just making noise. I found it very annoying. All in all it wasn't a bad breakfast, it was just okay, hence 3 stars. I'd still give it a try though because maybe your experience will be better. read more

My son and I were visiting and looking to enjoy breakfast together. We stayed at a nice hotel down the street and were surprised how quickly the scenery changed. Anyways, it was a little warm inside because of all the cooking so I wanted to sit on the tiny patio outside. What a mistake that was. Two bums rolled up on us TWICE asking for food/ help/something. The first time, the waiter was trying to get them away from us and used a menu to block us. The second time the same bum came back So I had to yell at her since she startled me. I couldn't believe she came back! There's not much space between the patio and the side walk so she just strolled right up again! I was so upset and wanted to quickly leave. What if she would've tried to attack me or spit on me or my son? The food was pretty good and the service wasn't bad. But the ambiance was AWFUL! They should find a way to block that patio off completely to block the unappealing view/neighborhood and any unwanted visitors read more

I've always been a fan of Rex's, even from the very first time, but l haven't been as many times as I would have liked, mostly because of the crowds. Rex's is a small neighborhood restaurant and on weekends and holidays, it can be packed...especially on the weekends. I drive by and see people sitting outside waiting for a table and even more people walking up to join the line. Of course, that's always a good thing; that the lines are there. They are open 7am-2pm. I usually go on a weekday morning, if I can. Otherwise, if I go on the weekend, I go when they first open. The food is consistently good. Their muffins are amazing and they come out warm and served with butter. They have unique flavors like Blueberry Almond, Strawberry Coconut, Carrot Raisin, and Lemon Sesame. I've had their coffee (nice and strong) and specialty lattes, like Hazelnut or Caramel and they are delicious! I like that this restaurant caters to all types of eaters. Whether you eat meat or not, they have something for you. At a time when I was taking a break from eating meat, I would often come here and get a breakfast dish that had the Soy-rizo in it. I love chorizo, so I was very happy to order the Soy-rizo and eggs. I loved the fact that it wasn't greasy and it tasted exactly the same! They serve items like pancakes, French Toast, steak and eggs, oatmeal, granola and yogurt, and several different omelets and scramblers. If you're vegetarian, they offer everything from tofu, veggie, and soy-rizo options. They have breakfast sandwiches and burritos, wraps and quesadillas, and they also serve lunch. They have several different sandwiches, from a Grilled Mediterranean Sandwich, Tuna Melt, and Steak Sandwich to a Turkey Bacon Melt, BLT, and Club Sandwich. Overall: My favorite breakfast spot in San Pedro! Definitely a family home feel. You will see Many of the same familiar faces for many years. This place is only open mornings, but their products are very fresh. Their menu is very extensive which include early lunch entree's. Food: My favorite thing is the Stuffed French Toast! Unfortunately, they sometimes run out of their product so they can't make them. But, their omelettes and salsa are pretty good. Service: They are usually swamped, but they still manage to give pretty good service. They are usually attentive to our needs. Environment: The inside is usually, and the bathroom is spotless. I don't like how you need to pass the employees work area, but the inside looks pretty neat. Parking: The street parking is not so good. We came in and tried the stuffed French toast and the machaca burrito as well as a Mexican hot chocolate. The best thing was easily the hot chocolate. It was huge and, unlike many places that serve hot chocolate, actually worth the price. To be fair, I'm an attention to detail person and many people are not. For starters, they had specialty coffee on the menu e.g. latte, mocha (which is still a latte), syrups, and a Mexican coffee. I asked if I could get the Mexican coffee as a latte...he told me they are two different things that latte means it's a shot. (Actually it means with milk....espresso is the shot). Get a reservation we'll in advance. Generally it seems like Hollywood Riviera has as good or better dinner options than Manhattan Beach but at a better value. Want to start with saying that the only reason we came here was because a friend recommended that we try it out. It was just overall a let down. All the reviews about the, "lady with the glasses," are true. This lady probably doesn't mean it, but she sure seems to have an attitude. (Perhaps it's just the way she is.) Our service experience was not so great. Next up was the pricing, every dish is at least $14 for a small portion. Next is the parking; we came here in an early time on Sunday at about 7:55am; NO PARKING! Also, if you're ordering soda, don't expect refills as you will only be able to get them by the can. Last, but least is the extra $1 charge if you're paying with a card. Now I do want say that the food was terrible; I just don't think this is a place to go out of your way. The Eggs and Bennys that I had at least expected the eggs to be runny; they were instead fully cooked yolk on the inside. Non-the-less, still edible. Overall not a place I want to visit because of the low caliber of service, inconvenient parking, and overpriced menu. I came here to try it with my friend. It's one of her all time favorites. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of parking in the area but was able to find a spot in the morning, on the street. Coming in, it's a small house styled looking restaurant. There are about 15 or so tables. The menu is pretty straight forward, as well as the service. It wasn't very crowded because it was so early in the morning but after we left, man, there was a line! She tells me that there's usually a line out the door and around the corner. Jeez! I'd like to definitely try this spot again. It had some quality ingredients and my food came to the table piping hot! All of their items looked really good. This place is definitely a hidden gem! We came to this cafe randomly because we were in the area for a wedding. I honestly didn't expect everything to be so great! Normally I'm very particular and can find something that I don't like but after coming here I was completely satisfied. We ordered the stuffed French toast and breakfast quesadilla which were cooked perfectly and they got all of our substitutions correct as well. As for the drinks we ordered a cafe latte and an orange juice (which is real fresh squeezed) and they were so good! The service was also very exceptional. Finally revisited this place and it is slipping in both food quality and service. The server was simply neglectful and clueless. Despite this, we were very nice to her thinking she was busy & we were happy to be out considering the state of the world. But looking at my last review and others, bad service seems to be the norm here. I ordered a Mediterranean omelet. It should have been sprinkled w Feta cheese but they stuffed the Feta inside AND it was generously sprinkled on top. I never ever thought I would say these words but that is "too much cheese!" Feta has a strong taste and thus should ONLY be sprinkled on the out side. In addition, there was Salsa of some sort on the side-what is that about? The fruit cup which I raved about last time was tasteless and had the banana seed in it-gross! I also ordered whole wheat toast-and received white & had to ask someone else to fix that mistake because the server disappeared after tossing the food down. The server did not ask immediately as she placed the food down if we needed anything else because if she did I could have addressed it then. The person that brought me the second toast did not bring whole wheat either. So either they do not have it and lack the integrity to tell you they do not, or do not know what it is. Considering that all other bread but whole wheat is unhealthy, I was perturbed but trying to be cool indulged in the unhealthy product. But they gave me 1 tiny butter-not even the size of the usual "pat". It was only enough for 1/4 of the fake wheat bread so I had to get up and ask for more because if I was going to eat bad I was going to go all out. :P The bus boy cleared my plate with his face one foot from mine despite all the "6 feet away signs" He asked if he could clear it and before I could answer there was his face!
