Much to my doctor's dismay, I love cheeseburgers. So, after reading reviews from many satisfied customers about this cute, little local eatery, I decided to indulge and get my cheeseburger to go. The place is small to begin with and was just a bit too cramped for my taste. I like elbow room and some illusion of privacy. If I'm going to sit at a table, I don't want to have lunch with a stranger. I should have saved my money and the calories because the burger was simply tasteless. Very disappointed. My first review and a well deserved 5 stars! I cannot express how much I love this little nook-in-the-wall restaurant. With our hectic schedules, my boyfriend tries to take me out to breakfast/brunch here at least once or twice a month. The drive up to Pedro isn't so bad and I personally think it's worth it. The service is fast and excellent. The man who runs the place remembers most of his customers and always greets us with a "¿Como estas?" and a pleasant smile. Everyone is so nice and friendly!! The place is cute and small and has a very home-y feel to it. The food is delicious and the portions are ridiculous (in a good way)! Whatever you order, you won't be leaving with an empty stomach, that's for sure! One time a customer next to me ordered pancakes and they came out HUGE! My hot chocolate is always too much to finish but delicious nonetheless (their mugs are ginormous)! I usually order the Greek omelet with brown rice...my favorite! I'm getting hungry and craving it as I write this review. The prices are reasonable...considering it's much healthier than most breakfast places and the service is excellent. I wouldn't say that it's comparable to IHOP or Denny's because it's way better! :) Unfortunately, they're only open until 2pm every day so wake up early! Tasty fresh, healthy and so clean clean. The location is on Pacific Ave and 22nd street with street parking only is the only bummer. But once your inside and eat everything else is not an issue. Plenty of HEALTHY food. I had the Chicken wrap and it was bursting with tasty fresh vegetables and chicken. Good portion size. Service was a little slow. But i recommend this place. read more

Decent food and Service but the mental patient outside who I almost clobbered with my coffee mug for yelling in my face ruined the morning. Pacific is not where I cross the line, I cross it before getting to Pacific, although Pacific Diner way up on Pacific & 37th street is great. I've been a resident of San Pedro for about 2 years and I can't believe I just found this place. A friend of mine came down for a hike and suggested we have breakfast at Rex's Cafe. I was a bit hesitant on coming out to the south side of SP, especially on Pacific, knowing that there are hardly any good restaurants out here. But I have to say, that this restaurant is "like a diamond in the ruff." The service was great, pricing is fair and the food was excellent. I will definitely be coming back! read more

Pretty good place to eat breakfast. I was their this morning and liked what I saw. They have a lot of food to choose from. They have great customer service and biligual waitresses. Fast service. It's a bit crowded though, and they don't have great parking. I had to move my car once because I did not want to get a ticket. A lot of the surrounding streets have a one hour parking limit. Or there is street sweeping so you must move. There is also a lot of apartment and small businesses around as well. I had the Mexican omelet which was really good. Their lemonade is also very good. The prices are good not to expensive. I came here based only on reviews from yelp and am glad I did. I'm not dissapointed. Please try this place out. I highly recommend this place. read more

Great food. Great variety not really the best place to try and get a stroller in ladies but its a great spot,if it was bigger and I didn't feel cramped in I would give it 4 stars and very very hard to find parking they don't have they're own lot. When you order two pancakes and they ask you are you sure they're pretty big, believe them, the cakes are the size of a plate and are two iPhones thick. Monster pancakes. Great place to sit for a meal and chat with friends. The interior is very pleasant, the food is good, portions are large-a cup of soup with included bagel will satisfy, although the meals are worth buying and taking half to work or home. I also like the cute waitress. read more

Great little breakfast spot. Drove by a million times an never ate there. Made a good decision today. I had the huevos rancheros. It was amazingly good. Black beans fresh salsa avocado. And comes with hash browns fruit or potatoes. I went with 2 friends they had pancakes which are extremely large one ( bigger tjen gaffey dinner) will fill u up. And the other had French toast. Another mediocre San Pedro eatery. I don't know what it is with this city but the locals need to get out more. Every sub-par restaurant gets 4 or 5 stars here. Waited for more than 35 minutes on a weekday for a party of 4 last week. Ordered omelets. Fresh ingredients specially the veggies and fruits. Mexican coffee and chocolate ordinary. Large serving and was able to take half to go. Service didn't stand out. Not cheap. Denny's or IHOP would be a better bet. read more

I visited Rex's Cafe which has outdoor seating available. I had my dog so I asked to sit outside. The hostess advised that there were lice outside and asked if I still wanted to sit there...I declined. Unfortunately I cannot speak to the food because I did not think acquiring a parasitic infestation would be worth staying. read more

Stopped by Rex's (my first time) after a tiring morning tidepooling and Sunken City-ing. We walked in to look the menu over, but an enthusiastic customer talked us into staying. This is a cute little cafe, and something about the vibe and decor reminds me of Santa Cruz. I had the bowl of vegetarian chili and half veggie sandwich. The sand was delicious, just good wholesome homemade tasting, which I love. The chili was yummy but I could only eat about 1/4 of it. Just a huge bowl of beans with a toasted bagel (?) for dipping. I'm not a bagel fan anyway and I really could have used tortilla chips instead. Other than that, the service was great, friendly and fast. I'd like to try their breakfast next time. read more

Rex's is a local hidden jem. Great food and atmosphere. It is a small diner so they cannot accommodate huge groups. Everyone is very nice. They have wonderful food. I have had 20+ things off the menu and have never been unhappy with my selection. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. Their pancakes are gigantic and very good. I love that I can choose healthy sides like cottage cheese, fruit (big bowl of a wonderful array of fruit) and brown rice. They also have the normal other sides like fries, white rice and potatoes. Rex's is a breakfast staple. I've seen a few reviews complaining about the service, even from people supposedly in the food service industry, and that is utter nonsense. The place can get busy and the servers don't have the same time to chat as they do when it is slow, but it is a great, welcoming place. Sometimes when things get super busy, yeah, you might have to wait. But the food is reliably great, especially the chilaquiles and the pancakes (the fluffiest pancakes you've ever had). Great salads, perfect poached eggs. And wonderful people who work here! read more

Headed out to San Pedro to ride the Palos Verdes peninsula on my motorcycle and yelp brought me to Rex's for breakfast. I got the eggs Benny and it exceeded all expectations. Really great food here and the fresh fruit bowl was beyond tasty. Most memorable was the salsa; I came back the next day and bought 16oz for a family gathering and everybody loved it. The review is only for the 50 min wait, bc they forgot to put our order in. I would assume that the waitress would notice herself that she brought out the second tables food before our order. We didn't want to say anything bc we didn't want to jeopardize our food in any way, or make them feel bad. I guess it was our fault for not speaking up. But again, I would think the waitress would notice us still waiting for our food. Anyway.. Food was decent and the shake I ordered was very delicious! For the long ridiculous wait they only deducted the shake.. It would of been nice for them to comp at least one meal. Anyway..will give this place one more try and come another day. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch. The ambiance is really cute and intimate. The food was amazing, everything was extremely fresh and delicious. There is a reason every one talks about the fruit! We were both extremely happy with our meals. Only thing I can complain about is the service. We came in and were told to pick any seat, after choosing a table in the corner we were told to move by the busser because he was closing that room down. An older gentleman came in shortly after us and took a seat at the same table and was allowed to sit there. Then the waitress was nice but extremely flirty with everyone! Men and women alike!! I was a little frustrated that she dropped the check before we were even half done with our great food. Saying "thanks guys, have a good one!"... I felt like we were getting pushed out! A party of 3 walked in 3 minutes till closing and the young lady reluctantly let them stay and eat (she made it clear she was annoyed by this- with the whole restaurant pretty full, it was extremely uncomfortable to witness) then turned away another table right at 2. I thought this was odd because obviously the kitchen was still making food (I've worked in restaurants for over 10 years and have never turned anyone away if the cooks were still cooking). All and all I will be back. Hopefully the service will be a little better! It would be great if they had longer hours!! read more

I've had great experiences here in the past. I'm thinking this was an off day for the waitress and cook. The Eggs Cabrillo had a hard yolk (no runny egg yolk for the English muffin to absorb). The waitress tried to refill my coffee while it was already full but never came back again to check on it until I was finished with breakfast. The service was great they were on top of everything, they were on the ready with refilling our coffees.
