We decided to do a beer flight so we could sample a variety of their beers before committing to a full pint. It was a great way to try different styles, and we each ended up finding a favorite. Everything we tried was really good. My husband liked their Buffalo wings and whiskey burger, I enjoyed the seared tuna bowl, and our kids liked their pizza. It is definitely a busy and popular spot, especially during peak vacation times, so I would recommend putting your name in early and expecting there could be a wait. In our opinion it was worth it. Now that we have an embarrassment of riches in natural foods---the mega-sized Nature's Oasis (I much preferred the old, small place, but good luck to their local owners in any case!), the new Natural Grocer in NO's old spot (what a gift to them), and even City Market has lots of organic stuff now (though that money goes back to Kroger in Ohio). Four good real food markets in our tiny town! But the co-op is still my favorite, not because I don't want to see NO do well, but because the co-op is truly community owned. That is very rare these days (there are mighty few co-ops left, look around the southwest), and well worth supporting. By and for Durangoites: that's the good stuff right there. The prices are fair, with lots of weekly specials, and I love the folks who work here. These are my kind of Durango folk! The co-op needs all the support it can get, and deserves it as the original Durango health food place. Those other places will do fine, but we need to keep supporting our real little oasis of health food! Compare prices and you'll realize that the co-op is very competitive, and is the only place that keeps our food money right here in town while not striving to become a mall-wart-sized mega-biz.
