We walk up to the ice cream counter to look at the flavors and they say we have to stand behind the register. We inquire as to whether we can taste flavors and they say yes, but only after you've purchased your ice cream. The issue with that is how do I know if I want one or two flavors until after I've tasted the gelato? I assume kids were coming in and tasting a bunch without buying anything, but then ask for a deposit or something. It doesn't make any sense to not be able to look at or taste the flavors before you have to order. I only tasted two flavors because they were making me so uncomfortable, and selected the second one I tasted--a dark chocolate flavor that wasn't honestly pretty darn excellent. So 5 stars for the actual taste (and their chocolates) and minus a star for the service.

Take a look at the bottom of the cup and you will see that it is recessed pretty deeply in the cup, meaning you aren't getting as big of serving as you would think with a cup that size.

Toby's is just as awesome in May 2026 as when I first visited in summer 2025! Another popular flavor was cinnamon. You can ask for a tiny sample of two flavors. The staff were professional with more brisk service (an improvement from summer 2025). Although it's a tiny space without seats, you can enjoy your ice cream in Adirondack style chairs outside in the plaza. Glad to see this business is thriving.
