We were staying 1 night in Palm Springs on our way to AZ and wanted to find something yummy for dinner takeout due to covid. I saw Rick's on the list with good ratings and I love Cuban food. We ordered via grubhub on the Yelp app for pick up. It was ready within 30 minutes. They had sanitizer by their pickup table and wore masks. The gentleman was very friendly. I ordered Media Noche sandwich, arroz con Pollo, yuca fries, and elote bites. All of it was delicious and fresh. Next time I'm in the area, I will definitely try to stop by again. read more

My husband and I were staying down the street at Palm Springs Rendezvous and, well, we ended up spending too much time at the pool with drink in hand to be able to drive downtown to have dinner so we ended up at Rick's two nights in a row and it was great both times. We showed up pretty late the first night and the bartender was our server. We both ordered off their "light" menu (salmon and fish tacos) and both entrees were very tasty and exactly what we needed after a gross lunch of heavy Mexican food. The salad was very fresh and I could eat my weight in fried plantains. The bartender was extremely friendly and reminded us that the next day (Sunday) was happy hour all day which meant $5 mojitos for me! So of course the next night we were once again hammered and made our way back to Rick's for happy hour and dinner. I'm pretty sure I decided to just eat a side of plantains and mojitos for dinner that night. Again, service was great and our favorite bartender came over to check on us and bring my husband a sample of the newest IPA that had just been delivered that day. We were pretty beat, so we just had a couple drinks and headed back to the hotel. Added bonus from that night: While I was in the bathroom I heard an extremely drunk woman talking to herself, singing, stumbling around. When I sat back down I told my husband how funny it was and we watched an elderly lady stumble out of the bathroom and sit down at a table next to ours with her equally elderly date. What a coincidence. Was just feeling nostalgic about a Cuban place in the Bay Area and then we found Rick's on our stay at the Riviera. This is more half Mexican, half Cuban serving an older crowd but we were craving some pulled pork so we stopped by. Waldorf Salad - green apples, grapes, walnuts, chicken breast, and lettuce. Very nice salad with some sweetness from fruit but there is way too much chicken for the salad. It's like 1:1 ratio between chicken and everything else. Cuban Lechon Asado - PLANTAINS YES. Two pieces of plantains, two fried yucca sticks, rice and beans with great flavor, and tender, delicious pulled pork. Also came with mojo (I'm guessing?) which I dipped the yucca and the meat in, not bad. Still don't really know how to use that sauce though... Had a great bite close to our hotel. We walked over to Rick's at 800 knowing they closed at 9 and the food was still good. We shared the media noche. It hit the spot and was enough for each of us to feel like we weren't stuffed but definitely had filled our belly. Had to go into PS to our tax lady..... Decided to grab some lunch on our way home to DHS. We were going to go to Denny's but I really wanted to try a local and better tasting... Saw Ricks and so we pulled in to try the place out..... Totally pleasantly surprised!!! Yummmmmers very very good.... Very nice decor, clean and great oldies music playing.... All the staff very friendly and polite.... Our waitress was totally on top of things... OMG, what a great place. It was Recommded on next door, so we decided to give it a try. As we started towards the outdoor area, a young lady waved us in to come in the door to be seated. As we walked in we heard music and she told us they have music a few nites a week and happy hour in the bar all day every day. And , on Wednesday, bottles of wine are 1/2 price. The ambiance was great, all old Palm Springs black and white huge photos of movie stars, hotels, cars in all the walls. And then of course the food, a huge menu along with the happy hour menu and fabulous fabulous desserts. I was very tempted to ask for a spoon! As disappointing as the salad was, they more than made up for it on the main course. I ordered the Santiago Rib-Eye, medium with Carribian rice + beans. The steak was a good 14oz and griiled to perfection. Very tender and tasty. Stir fried veggies were a perfect al-dente and the rice + beans were tasty with a hint of cinnamon. The bonus fried plantains were delicious. I decided to forgo finishing the rice + beans so I'd have room for Cuban Flan... AWESOME! As good as it looks. This is my second visit to this restaurant. The staff are very seasoned and they have an eclectic menu with quite a few desirable items. Last Tuesday, the guys and I ventured out to try Rick's Desert Grill. I thought to myself, why does the name "Rick" sound familiar. After thinking a bit more harder about it, I eventually realized that Rick is the owner of the breakfast and bakery down the road and this grill here! Duh Titus!! Same theme as the breakfast spot. Old school paintings and oldies music. The place is nicely laid out. Seating is comfortable as well. We ended up seating towards the rear, in a lounge booth. This night, we were served by the lovely Becky. She was very patience with us and knowledgeable about the menu items. It's cool that the menu offers a smaller version of a main dish just in case one person has a smaller stomach than another person. I ended up choosing the sweet meatloaf. It is what it states. Sweet to the tongue! Two large slices. Very soft and easy to cut. But with being soft, its too soft. It breaks too easy and doesn't hold. One of the guys, tried the (limited quantity) fried chicken and said it was really good! But be conscious, that it may turn out super greasy. Our evening here was very enjoyable. Wow, as a vegan and on my birthday I had to support another Caribbean spot in Palm Springs! I had their side of rice and beans, their sweet platanos, and a side salad with their house vinaigrette; I took out the croutons. My partner who is pescatarian ordered their grilled salmon with the same sides. My friends also the ropa vieja, and fish tacos! This used to be my favorite happy hour spot but after tonight I probably won't be going back anymore. The happy hour price has been raised by very little but also it seems that as if the portion size has also gotten smaller though. Came for some chicken wings but they were all out of the chicken wings so that was pretty unfortunate. The server was very polite, but the manager, polite as well but when he checked up on us twice he offered to bring out sour cream and I said yes please that would be awesome I would love some sour cream, he says he will be right back and then he goes outside and does some thing and then he comes back inside and doesn't come back to the table, then again he asked me later if I wanted some hot sauce that they make in-house and I said yes I would love some, and then he goes outside and comes back and never brings the hot sauce LOL, I swear I think he was trolling us, so convincing that he would just immediately grab it and be right back but both times just disappears and doesn't bring it, so weird I never got either sent to me. Amazing food and generous portions at more than reasonable prices. I came to Rick's Desert Grill two nights in a row, and was seated immediately. Service was quick. This place is right by my house and I have been meaning to try it for so long but it doesn't open til 3pm which is a shame. My husband and I shared the lechon sliders, seared tuna salad and the trio of Cuban meat thingy on recommendation of the waiter. Wow! My new fave dish! It was amazing. The best sliders I have ever had. The pulled meats on the trio thing was incredible! Go have it now and thank me later! Divine! The atmosphere could do with livening up a touch. What a disappointment! We were hoping to have a nice Saturday evening dinner. Alas, it wasn't to be this evening. We ordered the Caesar salad entree, and what we were served was the size of a small dinner salad (for the price of an entree). On top of that, the waiter did not listen when I asked for no croutons and the salad was filled with them. When I sent it back, it was obvious that they had not re-made the salad, but merely picked some of the croutons out, as quite a few were still remaining. But the size of the salad was our main complaint. We were going to order something else to supplement our meal, but the restaurant was closing and there was no time to place an additional order. Loved this place. Being from the east coast, I was missing my Cuban food. I found this spot after a search online, and I was skeptical. We ordered the tostones trio, medianoche sandwich, and the arroz con pollo. I cannot even begin to describe how flavorful it all was! I was so pleasantly surprised by this spot. My favorite thing was by far the tostones trio appetizer. The tostones were perfectly crunchy, but the meats were so soft and tender. The distinct flavors from each meat were phenomenal. I loved this place and will definitely be back. Also, my friend got the cafe con leche and she said it was incredible (I'm not too big of a coffee drinker so I didn't try it). They also have a great little patio where I enjoyed dinner with my pup. Lastly, the service was exceptional. My friend and I were the only customers on the patio, but they were always sure to check on us. They turned on the outside heating lamps for us even when they weren't wanting to turn on at first.
