Hole-in-the-wall establishments always have my vote, no matter what. In my book, Righteous Room is one of the best holes in the wall around. It's a little sliver of a restaurant in a strip mall on the corner of Ponce de Leon and N. Highland. Their outdoor seating is directly on the sidewalk so there's only space for about eight. Since we were a party of four, we decided to take the outdoor seating and enjoy the cooling weather. RR is a typical bar with local artwork on the walls. There are plenty of regulars crowded around the bar and table seating throughout. There is one large booth in the back near the bathrooms. But the table is small and low...perfect for drinks, but not for food. We ordered chili cheese fries for the table, and I had a burger oozing with garden and grease...just the way I like it. The fries were fantastic and sloppy and steaming hot. I thought, since we were the only ones eating on the sidewalk, that we would be forgotten, but our server was quick and attentive. read more

Had the veggie burger and side salad! The veggie burger had tomatoes and red onions, so it's a nice punch to your taste buds, and side salad had green mix, chickpeas, mushrooms, tomatoes, bean sprouts, and red onions and this scrumptious grapefruit cilantro vinaigrette. Didn't drink tonight but the Beers were super cheap and a good variety. Light night snacking without the guilt. And my date had a fatttt burger with the smoothest potato wedges their centers were velvety. All of it was $18. Can't beat that! read more

Sure the little strip has changed.......Harry's in a Hurry? Gone. Korean BBQ? Gone. The Plaza Theater? Not the same. But the Righteous Room remains, unfazed. This was invariably the first place I took out of town friends, especially if there were from smaller towns. It exudes unpretentious-bar-in-the-big-city. It's cool without trying. Countless hours spent inside and outside (on the massive "patio"). Easy going service, interesting rotating local art, and the best chips/cheese/salsa combo around. I tend to judge bar food menus on the chips and cheese. This is not rocket science here people. So, when I think RR, I think about extra garlicky salsa, blue chips, and sharp white cheese. Yes Please. Other classics: sloppy turkey melts, burgers on nan, and big ass wedges of potato, fried and crispy. This is also the only place I can remember EVER ordering a veggie burger on purpose. Usually they're just dry slabs of pressed bean, but these are very edible. Not a giant beer selection, but they make a helluva caucasian. read more

Smokey....Very Smokey. A cool little hipster bar, poncey/highland area. I have had hit or miss food here. The fish and chips was honestly the most over fried fish I've ever had. Very old batter or something? I have had great sandwiches here though so it's not all bad. As well the pasta is alright (not amazing). I'd suggest this place if you were going to the theater next door for a pre movie drink. If you are a smoker, hipster, and don't mind a few drifters around, you'll be good! read more

After attending dinner with my great Yelp friends, some of us walked across the street to Righteous Room. I had never heard of this place but I was told that this was a known spot. If feels like a dive when you walk in but it's such a cool place. The service was awesome. I didn't get food only a few drinks. The drinks were really decently priced. Ok I was very much looking forward to the food, and considering it's bar food, it's not a bad fair.. but what is awesome about this place.. is YES THE JUKEBOX!! They played awesome music, The Police "I'll be watching you", Live.. I was there for 2 hours, and the music selection was just great.. The local's who hang here are a mix of cool kids, and just people who have been there forever. The place is small, but it has great service. I had the grilled chicken which came with a yummy sauce and grilled vegies.. it's a healthier alternative to the burger.. and it was nice and juicy wrapped around a naan. I'm not really sure what inspired the folks who run Righteous Room to go out and get fresh, awesome food. Did no one tell them they're a dive bar? This is the sort of place you wouldn't expect to find food at all. It reminds me of the bar I used to go to after work in New York, where the "dinner special" was a rocks glass of warm whiskey chased with a can of Schafer beer. But Righteous is so much better than that. The servers and bartenders all work together, so there's no waiting around. There's a good beer selection and the PBR is cheap. And the food. The food! The veggie burger is tasty, as is the rosemary chicken wrap and the chicken quesadilla (which has feta, a nice little surprise). When you just want small bites to share, the nachos are good, but the veggie chili cheese fries are even better. It's an awesome neighborhood joint with a decent juke box and crowd. It's a bit dark inside, so it's not where you go to enjoy the nice weather. And some may complain about the smoke, but it's one of the few places where Jay H. can have dinner and a cigarette in peace, so if you're into that kind of thing, good on you. read more

I love the Righteous Room! Yes, it is an Atlanta bar, so yes, its smokey, dark, and the clientele can be interesting. But, they have the nicest staff, great variety of drinks, good food, and a eclectic jukebox. My boyfriend and I walk down to RR several times a month, if you get there before 9:30 on Friday and Saturday you will probably be able to get a table. They have a full bar, and Strongbow on tap, which I love, and well as several other beers. They are reasonably priced ($3 Yuengling pints) Everyone is super nice and attentive. We usually order hot wings and a burger. My BF says the wings are the best in the city. They are hot but still have flavor and I like them as well! We crave them! I always get the cheeseburger with potato wedges. The burger is always cooked to my specifications. I think it is the best burger around, much much better and less expensive than Atkins Park. A friend of mine raved about the Salmon Quesadilla, as well! My BF also loves the Jukebox, there is probably a few songs for everyone. It ranges from the Smiths to James Brown to Johnny Cash, just to name a few. 3 songs for $1. If you aren't really in to the typical bar scene with fratastic people and you don't need to wear short shorts with heels to go out on Saturday night, this is the place for you. But, even if you are, you might just love it anyway! read more

Some things never change. The service here has always been bad and last night was no exception to that. My boyfriend and I came in and waited over ten minutes for anyone to even say anything to us, given this is a bar but it was sunday night and hardly anyone was there. About halfway between ordering and food coming we finished our beers, so when the guy brought our food my boyfriend asked for another one. Made eye contact, pointed at his beer, and said "Hey man, can I get another one?" The guy said "Ok, enjoy" and walked away. My bf thought he was bringing it but alas, it never came and neither did our server, until about 15 minutes after our plates were cleared by someone else. So here we were with nothing to drink the entire meal and sitting for 15 minutes after our meal with no drink. Lazy service to say the least, I mean, we were drinking 6 dollar beers, that could have been an extra 12 bucks on our tab! This, unfortunately, is completely normal for this place but the food is usually very good. Last night it was sub-par, to be nice. Maybe it was tainted by the fact that we saw how they got a 77 on their health inspection! Ten points above failing! Won't be going back here again. No thanks. read more

There are plenty of great meals to be found in Atlanta, but few are as wedged into the craving center of my brain quite as deeply as Righteous room. The salad was huge and delicious, very reasonably priced. My girlfriend has the Turkey sandwich on the delicious flat-bread. I want this place to be my go-to neighborhood bar. Seriously. The service was nice, the food was great, the drinks were cheap, the music was entertaining. The only reason it won't become my nightly go-to is because of the smoke. I have been to bars that allow smoking and still somehow manage to not make me smell like a stale ashtray when I leave an hour later, but this is not one of them. Having moved from a city where smoking was allowed indoors rarely if at all, it really wasn't seen as an inconvenience for people to go outside to get their fix. If Righteous Room changed this policy, I might be willing to come back on a more regular basis. For now, I'll have to keep it to the times when I'm about ready to do laundry anyway. read more

I am here at least once a week, so i guess that says something. If you are looking for the best jukebox in Atlanta, it's here. And by far the best bar food for a dive bar in the city (especially for vegetarians). The grilled cheese and onion straws are a must. Get the quesadilla with hummus on your next visit. And the house salad is actually really great as well. Each dish here has a little touch of gourmet, which is rare for a bar. I tend not to go here on the weekend, because it can get super crowded, and smokey. It would get a 5 if it was non-smoking. read more

Pretty cool place to hang out but don't expect any seating for large groups since it is more a bar than a restaurant. Started the night with some very fruity shots of lemon drop and a Guinness draft chaser. I was able to try a few things on their menus. Ok, I'm going to start off a bit cynical here, so, I'm sorry, but I think this has to be said so all the "too cool for school" server kids in this world can get a clue. Here goes....You're sole reason for doing what you do is to get something, then put it on a table... That's it. You're not a record producer or film director that can make or break, you just pick things up, then put them down. I waited tables for years and still do at times, I always knew that's what I did. I never had an attitude problem about it. Now, some people at The Righteous Room need to start understanding that. In the past the service was perpetually terrible. Now, after some time, I'm a regular to some degree and they are awesome. Tim... wicked cool guy. Heather... wicked cool chick. Don't get me wrong, I still have never talked to these people, but I think they know my face now to the extent as to where I don't have to wait forever anymore. The crowd in this place is great Sunday through Thursday, then the suburban kids come in to flood Urban Outfitters next door and the scene gets a bit ruined on weekends. But other than that, it's great people watching, the drinks are always strong and the beer is always cold. And for some strange reason there is always something on the tv that I'm interested in. I live two blocks from this bar and I hail from Chicago and don't know that many people but live near this bar and Becky and the bar regulars always make for an awesome time whenever I come in! The bar has a big city feel with a home-town and artistic bar atmosphere that any big city needs. I'm new but, Atlanta needs more bars like this. The juke box is awesome. read more

Not gonna lie, I was skeptical of a bar placed next to Urban Outfitters, but the Righteous Room surprised me! If you love dive-y NOT dirty and a laid back clinetele, this is the place for you. What made me try this bar/restaurant was the patronage. I had seen large groups of people sitting at the tables outside, so one rainy day I decided to go in and order something. The menu is varied and the bar is well-stocked. I ordered spicy wings and Asian wings to go. Both were good. The only problem with this bar is the cigarette smoke. Not to be missed. I love a staff with some attitude and most of them have it. They've had so many good ones over the years, but Tim is my current fav. He gives it to you straight while serving you a stiff one. The jukebox is truly spectacular. The place had a strange vibe - not exactly bad but not good either. I tend not to like bars in strip malls to begin with so I was skeptical from the start. I know many people have complimented the food here (and even said that they make it look fancy to boot) but after taking a look at the place, I didn't want to chance it. My drink was strong but even that couldn't wash away the feeling that I was an outsider and not welcome there. We rushed through our drinks and got away from here ASAP to find happier, friendlier haunts. read more
