Met some friends here for dinner yesterday. This restaurant is fairly close to my house but we don't typically included in our rotation for Mexican dining. The restaurant is very nice they did a great job changing over from the Italian restaurant that was there before them. The restaurant is large and clean. Nicely decorated. It wasn't very crowded Tuesday evening. But it still seemed to take a little bit longer than it should have for our food to come out. The food was okay. Portion size was good temperature was good seasoning was a little on the underwhelming side. The service was fair at best. Our waitress did not do a very good job of stopping by our table to make sure that our water glasses had water in them or getting us refills on our soft drinks. I also asked for some hot sauce and it never showed up at the table. The gentleman busing our table seem to be more interested in making sure we were taken care of. There are so many good Mexican restaurants in this town. I would recommend doing a little research before settling for this option. read more

Let me say, this place has the upmost, top notch customer service through your the Valley! All the staff members we encountered once we entered were friendly and professional. They take pride in their business and food no doubt. I got the chicken tacos with rice and beans. Hands down, perfect rice and beans. The tacos shells were a bit too greasy for me, it was leaking at the bottom. Luckily I was able to drench it off with some paper towels. Over all delicious food. Rio Rico Mexican Grill moved into the old Serrano's Mexican Restaurant space at the NE corner of Guadalupe and Val Vista in Gilbert. Walking in the door, I liked how they freshened up the dining room. It seemed a little brighter and it felt clean and tidy. It wasn't very busy as we were seated at our table at noon on a Saturday. By the time we left, at about 1:30, there were more seated guests than when we arrived but there was still ample seating. Our server was a friendly young lady. She brought us our chips, salsa and ice teas right away. My friend ordered the combination fajitas and I ordered a ground beef hard shelled taco and chicken enchilada with green sauce combination plate, which was not listed on the menu but our server happily accommodated my request. The food came out quickly and everything was hot. The fajita portion was huge! I'd like to say I was amazed by the food but I really wasn't. It was good, and I'd be happy to eat there if I lived in the immediate area, but it's not a place I would drive too far out of my way to visit again. read more

Been coming here a long time since they were across the street! When they first moved to the new building it seemed like an adjustment period so today was our first time back in a while and it did not disappoint. Service and food were 10/10. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They made sure to sit us by a tv as requested to we could watch the game[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and our sever had a smile and was great about checking in to make sure our drinks were full and if we needed anything. Party of 6 celebrating 16 years of sobriety. 5 out of the 6 dishes ordered came to the table cold. Of course the fajita that was ordered was hot. Corn tortillas were ordered with the fajita, but flour tortillas were brought out. Enchiladas were ordered with onions, however there were no onions. Side of guacamole and sour cream were ordered, they were never brought. Tabasco was asked for but again never brought to the table. 2 of the 6 guests got refills on their drinks while the other 4 sat with empty glasses. Taste of food was substandard. read more

With the great reviews I had really high expectations. Between the 4 of us we had enchiladas, carne asada, tacos and chili relleno. The chicken enchilada got the best reviews. Carne asada wasn't bad but wasn't the best either. Tacos were really loaded but the carne asada meat wasn't very flavorful. Beans were good, rice was a little dry. My far my favorite place to eat! I have not had one bad meal here. Hardest thing is deciding what to order! Last night I ordered the grande burrito with shredded beef and red and green sauce! Rio Rico is a newley opened location of a family styled Mexican restaurant with over 15 years of serving the nearby Gilbert area. The new facilities provide for a full bar, dining area, and two separately reserved party rooms for special events or dinners. This was my first visit to Rio Rico. The staff was very kind and sevice was fast, efficient and helpful. The prices were also reasonable. The seating area is spacious and some booths are more secluded than others. My entrée tonight was the Pollo Al Chipotle, which is a grilled chicken dish that is smoothered in a smooth, creamy aioli sauce filled with mushrooms, onions and spiced with a slow burn chipotle spice. It comes with rice and beans sides as well as a couple of flour or corn tortillas. It was a nice dish, but not flavors that I enjoyed. My son ordered the chile verde plate, which I tried some bites of. The green chile pork flavor was more of the light green flavor, nothing close to the hatch chile sharp flavor I enioy. The pork was perfectly cooked, but again more of an average green chile than I like. That said, the chips and salsa were excellent, and one of my important points of a Mexican restaurant is that the chips and salsa must be excellent if provided. I will return to Rio Rico because I didn't get a chance to try the red chili or sauce dishes. And the staff was genuinely excellent, so I am sure the I can find another entrée that I will be more to my liking. read more

We had very friendly attentive service. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant is kept very clean. My family said their food was ok, not the best Mexican food ever, but still good. We were going to order margaritas, but didn't really want to spend $11 each for a house marg that looked pretty small. I had the veggie burrito with rice and beans. The burrito had fajita veggies inside which were tasty, but it also had green beans, carrots and corn which definitely seemed to come from a can. I thought this was very strange. I think taking the canned veggies out and maybe adding zucchini and/or mushrooms would be good. Also, adding beans to the veggies inside the burrito would be much better. read more

Overall, it was a cool family style place, plenty of seating for my group of 5. The food was decent. We all had something different and no real complaints about the food itself. We will be back to try more for sure. The one issue we all had was with our waitress. And it turned out she was our bartender and hostess as well. She is young with black hair. She seemed to be a bit "know it all" when we had questions about certain food items, including the salsa. We are a fun group of adults all in our 40s, we treat people right no matter who they are. So, when it seemed like she was challenging us over the salsa it got weird and turned us off a bit. Also, I don't know if they are short staffed but she made our drinks but they came out really, really slow. Like 15mins between drinks. And it wasn't even that busy overall. There was a nice guy with short hair who checked on us, got us our salsa/chips and water etc. with no issues and totally chill/polite guy. The waitress just seemed maybe overwhelmed or over her job or thinks she is too good for it? IDK. I just know my margarita on the rocks had very little alcohol in it, so she said she would remake it. I suggested instead of throwing a whole drink out, just add another shot. She added it and then some and charged me $3.50 for the shot. Didn't expect that. Maybe I should have just had her remake it? Also, my friends had asked for spicy skinny margaritas and well....let's just say they came out interesting the 2nd round (see pic below) Other than that, though, we will be back. Looking for a good, authentic, hole in the wall mexican food place? You're in luck because rio rico is just that place. We usually get greeted by the owner, and if it is slow he is right there working with the servers and tending the bar. The staff is friendly and know their stuff. The food is always good and fresh. I reccomend the green chilie pork, my husband reccomends the mole, and the potato skins on the sampler platter tend to be a talking point when we bring friends. I'm so glad they moved into a bigger space a couple years ago, because they deserve to have even more seats filled. read more

For the price we paid, it was more expensive than what I would have liked to spend for what I received. Cheese enchiladas was priced well, the crab enchiladas were just okay. Wasn't even sure what sauce the put on that enchiladas. It was a mild flavor. Not something I would order again, especially for the price. Atmosphere was nice. My new favorite restaurant. I know after one visit that's a risky statement. I loved the food. You can tell it was made with love after every bite. Nice clean joint Authentic family run Mexican food. Exactly the kind of food I have been searching for. I had a Chile relleno which was perfect. And a tamale which was incredible. Love the sauce. Loved the salsa the rice and the beans everything was perfect even down to having the right amount of cheese. Even the Diet Coke was perfect. Why am I just finding this place now? I'd love to give a review of the food here, we were so excited to potentially have a reliable Mexican place so close to our house. Unfortunately we sat for 15 minutes without even being acknowledged by one of the 3-4 servers they had working that night. It wasn't even all that busy, they just straight up ignored us. This is my neighborhood place, and I'd eaten there at the old location. For whatever reason, when I went this week the food seemed far better and I was very impressed. I am happy to give them 5 stars. I was also happily surprised to know they make their margarita mix fresh in house. I had the grande sampler, and I'm pretty sure I'll be back for that again soon, and I might try the mango margarita this time. The chile relleno is amazing. The sauce is on point. I came in on a Sunday, wasn't super busy, but it appeared that there was only one server, Mario. Even so, the service was spectacular, he came over had a smile on his face, and was super pleasant for being as busy as he was being the bartender, server, and busser. the food was delicious and came out super quick. I had the Chile Colorado and it was perfect with the corn tortillas on the side. Altogether, it was a wonderful experience with delicious food. I look forward to coming back. read more

My Rating is not for the food or it would be 4 stars maybe even a 5. I have eaten here for almost 10 years since moving to Arizona. Rio Rico has been my family's go to Mexican restaurant. After eating there tonight my kids and I decided we may have to find a new go to Mexican restaurant even if it means driving a distance. For the past few years we have ignored the rude behavior of one waitress who I believe is the sister of the owner or one of the owners. She is always rude and inattentive. We went for an early dinner and sat in the bar. Was greeted very rudely as usual by this waitress/owner. Once seated and gave our order we were completly ignored. No water refills, no can I get you anything, nothing. My son would have ordered another beer however she never came back at all to our table. She was very attentive to other tables but completly ignored us. This happens every time we eat here and while we just brushed it off on prior visits tonight was the final straw. I am not sure why being an owner or related to the owner justifies treating your customers in this manner however I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere from now on. ****** this an upadated review and lowered to 1 star. I called the restaurant and spoke with the owner. I explained how we were treated and that it is the norm for this treatement from this waitress. She stated I was complaining about her daughter and she is never rude and then hung up on me. Definately not going back!! read more
