Beautiful restaurant and spectacular food. Service was just right amount of attention and privacy. I'm telling all our friends, it was amazing

Carré d'Agneau/lamb chops artfully presented. More A Mora: Looks like a charming pink pussy cat cocktail.

Want to dine in the elegant, former Bank of Italy founded by Amadeo Giannini that later was called Bank of America, seated in the midst of Neo Classical décor and architecture with the restrooms in an underground bank vault? Then Per l'Ora is perfect for you. Look up to see the intricate coffered ceiling, be surrounded by Georgian columns & paneling with shelved alcoves displaying objects d'art. Cushy couches, stuffed chairs for your comfort. Life appears grand here. Most of the guests are under 40 and understandably can't seem to get enough of the retro chic. Service is initially friendly, not as polished as expected considering such lux surroundings. Their main function is to bring out the food. Too bad management doesn't brief the staff on food items coming out of their kitchen so waiters can be more informed when guests ask questions since their menu is so abbreviated that it doesn't tell you if meat is grilled, broiled, baked, boiled, braised, etc. and neither can the waiters. 1) Roman Artichokes/Carciofi Romani are fried artichoke hearts where the heart is meaty and the small attached leaves are dry crispy and fibrous. Even the flavour concentrated, mildly bitter herbal stems can be eaten. The frying seems to add sweetness to the starchiness. Chefly dish. 2) Carré d'Agneau/lamb chops: Two good quality lamb chops artfully composed were so excessively charred and burned black on the grill that the tender lamb meat turned so hard and stiff, a sharp knife could barely cut through under high pressure. Total insult to the lamb that gave up its life. Mint and pistachio Gremolata which was not sweet like many mint jellies was fine. Braised carrots were a pleasure since they seemed almost naturally sweet. Pomegranate added a juicy agrodolce refreshment and puréed butternut squash was comforting. However, the grilled green onions were over grilled like the lamb creating an overly chewy, fibrousness. 1-2a) More A Mora: Looks like a charming pink pussy cat cocktail. Michael's Bourbon, blackberry & lemon juice, Aquavit, red colored Aperol bitters, Peychaud's Bitters with hints of cherry, anise, fennel. Also, a bottle of Saratoga Sparkling Mineral Water to slake any thirst. 3) Two huge Cannoli Siciliani with thick, blistered, crunchy pastry shells filled with whipped Ricotta filling dressed with crushed roasted pistachios and dry shavings of Valrhona 70% chocolate. Such a generous portion. I took one home to drizzle Amaretto di Saronno for added flavour. My only wish was that the food preparation were commensurate with the sybaritic, drop dead décor. Unfortunately, the kitchen lost control that night and the mistakes were not caught by the napping expediter if there were any expediter at all. 3- stars

This was a beautiful restaurant - great for a date or in our case, our anniversary! We ordered the focaccia (delicious, very crispy, I liked the balsamic vinegar), orecchiette birria (recommended by our server - this was pretty good but nothing mind blowing, and was hard to pick up with my fork lol), prime filet (this was delicious but not much food for $60), and smashed potatoes (these were so crispy and delicious, probably my favorite item). The wait for our food was quite long so I think our server felt bad because he gave us dessert on the house (he was very sweet). We chose the tiramisu, but honestly we thought it was just decent, as it didn't taste super fresh. I think it would have been a little disappointing if we had paid ourselves. Also, valet for the restaurant was $33, which was quite shocking. I think we hadn't fully processed the price when we accepted it because this has lived on in our heads as the most expensive valet we have ever encountered. Overall, I think the ambiance of this restaurant, rather than the food, is what stands out. Don't get me wrong - the food is good, if you're ready to spend a little more, but I personally feel like you can get better at the same price point.

They offer valet parking for $33 and there's also a paid public parking and some street parking available. I really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. It has a beautiful interior with a unique charm. On our way to the restroom, we even passed a vault door, which was interesting. For Valentine's Day, they offered a prix fixe menu and overall, the food was good. Our server was attentive and make sure we were taken care of throughout the evening. The only downside was our seating. We were directed to a separate room next to the kitchen, and unfortunately, we couldn't hear the live music or experienced the energy of the main dining area. Since we were seated near the kitchen, we also saw and heard stuff constantly going in and out, and there was quite a bit of activity. If I return, I'd definitely request a table in the main dining room to fully enjoy the beautiful interior and live music. Sitting on the second floor might be a great option as well.

Ambiance: the dining area is stunning, full of Italian inspired luxury elements, beautiful ceilings and stylish lights Service: friendly and attentive, introduced the menu and their speciality thoroughly Food: simple menu, limited items for appetizers, pasta, and entree SQUID INK BUCATINI - *** spicy tomato, leeks, fennel, garlic, lemon, calabrian chili, shrimp, squid, seafood was cooked well, overall good taste, although lack of spicy flavors ORECCHIETTE BIRRIA - ** short rib guajillo chile ragu, cilantro, cotija cheese, onion foam, it was suggested by the server, good presentation, however, poor quality, undercooked pasta, rotten garnish greens, such a disappointing finish as a signature dish Price: medium portions, overpriced for the quality but fairly priced for the downtown location, be aware they charge service fee in addition to tip, not quite worth near $50 per person

Went in for dine-La, had an ok experience Pros: 3 courses for $55, some veg options in each course. Dishes come out fast Desserts are nice Cons: Service is slow and a bit selective. We were never asked for take out containers, the server angrily left the check and left. There were guests around who were an utter menace but got biased treatment because they were inebriated ($). A lot of tables were waiting long for server because all except one were wait staff. Overall, it's in a really cool historical hotel but food and drinks fall short.

I wish I could have experienced DTLA's golden age and historic opulence. But as I'm not a time traveler, I have to settle for dining here at the Per L'Ora Ristorante. Indulged in the Italianate ceilings, marble floors, velvet chairs, archways and foliage. Even relieved myself in what was formerly a bank vault. See pics. Not of my bathroom experience though. Sorry. Anyway to start - parking. Next to this historic building is a public paid lot. I don't remember how much it was, but it's steps to the entrance of the building - in fact, to the valet station too. That's $33 or $69 overnight. Don't ask me why I remembered that. I had made reservations but I don't believe I really needed it. Though the bar was filled, the dining area was empty, but that allowed me to take pics of the area. The pics don't do the decor any justice. You have to go see and experience it with your own eyes. Service was top notch. Though not busy, there was still a team who gave my friend and I the royal treatment. I'm confident that even had it been busy, that the service would have been just as excellent. Then there was the food. Crudo, Bucatini, Filet and Smashed Potatoes. And a Tiramisu to close out the evening. The flavors and presentation were in line with the decor and service. I'd definitely order the same dishes again. Loved how the Crudo's dressing and seasoning were balanced, not overpowering the Salmon, but giving it a soft kick. The Bucatini was nice and savory and the sauce was balanced even with the rich squid ink. And you know I love my red meat. I was even a fan of the root vegetable au gratin. That surprised me because initially I was worried it was going to give me the feeling like I was eating dirt. Anyway, because I love history and could spend eternity just looking and and studying things of the past, this was a satisfying evening for me; one that I know I'll revisit so I can soak in more of DTLA's past.

My fiancé and I planned an LA trip around a special dinner reservation, in continued celebration of our 30th birthdays. This restaurant wasn't *that* restaurant, but by booking Hotel Per La through Chase, we got a $100 credit to use on the property. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon, came here for lunch, then did some sightseeing before heading back to the hotel to get ready for our special dinner. So the goal was to eat light since we would be having many courses at dinner, but once we saw the menu here, that goal quickly went out the window. There's a certain vibe to restaurants that offer crudo, and I can almost always sense it before looking at the menu. This was no different. So I see the menu and immediately identify the hits: -Crudo -Endive salad with mandarin orange, peach, and olive -Prosciutto with burrata and basil -Tempura squash blossoms -Focaccia And so...we ordered them all. We knew it was a lot. Our server even made some comment about us being hungry. And we were! The crudo was refreshing, and the colorful dressing was also delightfully flavorful. A little spicy, tart, sweet, salty, and umami! All da flavors. The salad was also refreshing, and I loved the combination of the sour citrus with the sweet peaches, salty olives, and crisp endives. Both dishes were well-balanced. The prosciutto dish was fine, basically just met expectations and tasted fresh. The greens and balsamic kinda balance out the other flavors, which I appreciate. The focaccia was absolutely delicious, and we actually took half back to our room so it wouldn't go to waste (but we were too full to eat it by the end of the meal). The one thing we weren't fans of were the squash blossoms, which aren't something we usually order anyway, but these just missed the mark. Somehow just not satisfying, but I can't totally recall why exactly we didn't like them. Maybe not crispy enough? Maybe too much of whatever was inside of them? More than just tasty food that is presented well, this restaurant truly fits very well into this hotel. The architecture, décor, and seating all lend themselves well to the intended atmosphere for this place. We were so pleasantly surprised by Ristorante Per L'Ora, and are happy to report that it is not a standard hotel restaurant, whatsoever. Definitely stop by if you are staying here, and maybe even if you're nearby without food plans.

Beautiful restaurant located within the Perla hotel in DTLA. This place has a pretty amazing ambiance, good food and cool vibes. Would recommend the breakfast and coffee. Highly advise to visit the restrooms, which is in the bank vault downstairs, beautiful...

Very cute place and service was amazing. I honestly can't wait to go back and try their other dishes. We started off with the ricotta (super refreshing), then had the hamachi (presentation was so good we didn't want to touch it, but glad we did because it was yummy) and then we got their short rib pasta which we were told is the main thing on their menu that they keep consistent and I can see why! We also had their more traditional pasta dish which was good but the short rib was definitely the star from the main course. We wended with the deconstructed peach dessert which was delicious and hit the spot. Photos don't do this place justice though! Highly recommend it for date night, girls night, or even a quick bite if you're staying by the hotel.

The restaurant is located within Hotel Per La. The interior is nice with 20 foot high ceilings. We had breakfast here and I went with the avocado toast. It came with prosciutto and heirloom tomato on top. It was yummy and filling. Something that surprised us was the black coffee priced at $6 though.

A Slice of the Italian Coast Hidden in the Heart of LA Dining at Ristorante Per L'Ora felt like being whisked away from the noise of downtown Los Angeles and gently placed on the quiet, romantic coast of Italy. The moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the immaculate decor, an elegant blend of old-world charm and coastal Italian luxury. Think soft lighting, warm tones, and polished touches that made the entire space feel effortlessly upscale yet inviting. Now let's talk food... The table bread alone deserves its own review. I don't know what kind of sorcery goes into it, but it was baked fresh, served piping hot, and had the perfect balance of crispness on the outside and soft, cloud-like warmth on the inside. I could have eaten a whole basket and called it a night (but thankfully, I didn't). Every dish that followed was a flavorful adventure. The ingredients were clearly fresh and thoughtfully paired. The sauces were rich, layered, and bold without ever overpowering the dish. Each bite was bursting with robust flavor, from the depth of the herbs to the brightness of the citrus notes in the mocktails. Even the mocktails felt elevated, perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and beautifully presented. In LA I've learned that its hard to get good service however the service here at my visit was warm and attentive. I had a problem with my first cocktail and it was swiftly corrected. If you're looking to escape the city without leaving it, this is the place. Ristorante Per L'Ora is a hidden gem that delivers not just a meal but a mood, a memory, and a moment of luxury.

This spot opened about a year ago, and has a cool speakeasy style entrance at the Highland Park Bowl bowling alley. It is a small space, and I would highly recommend making a reservation on Resy. You have 90 minutes to drink and dine. I parked behind the bowling alley where there is a medium sized pay parking lot. Park in a space, remember your space number painted on the ground, and go to the pay station at the end of the lot. I found the parking machine to be extremely finicky as did other people. After ten minutes of failure, I ended up moving my car to another space, and then it worked. This has nothing to do with the Lucky Tiki, but FYI if you park there. We walked around to the front of the bowling alley, and checked in. Seating options include at the bar, tiki hut booths, and high top tables. The décor inside is a tiki lovers paradise. The room has a high ceiling with many tiki lamps, floats, puffer fish, tiki huts, thatch, ropes, barrels, netting, carvings, a hanging canoe, and a large tiki right in the middle of the space. In addition to the great décor, when you order certain drinks, special effects are triggered. There was also great tiki music playing all evening. We sat at the bar since we always enjoy talking to the bartenders. We actually ran into Skipper Christian in the parking lot on the way in, and he ended up being our main bartender, with Nick and Jo also working behind the bar. We put in a food order right away. The chicken potstickers ($12) came with five tasty bites, and the garlic teriyaki dipping sauce was good. We also had the giant pretzel ($16) which comes with mustard, beer cheese, and ranch sauces. This was excellent, and the perfect filling snack before a bunch of drinks. My first drink was the Siren's Song (Flor de Cana Eco rum, lemon juice, cassis, Oloroso sherry, apricot foam topper, $19). This drink is served in a great mermaid with skull mug and triggers special sound effects and bubbles fill the air. Those bubbles on top of the drink had a great light citrusy apricot flavor, probably the best flavored bubbles I've ever had. The drink itself was very good and balanced with some complexity. She wasn't sure what to order at first, and Christian asked her what flavors she liked. He ended up making a spin on a Tradewinds with some mango and pineapple to go along with the apricot and coconut. It was nicely balanced and not too sweet, even with all that fruit in there. My second drink was the Sun of Suns (Tierra de Acre mezcal, coconut cream, Giffard mango liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, $17). This was coconut and pineapple forward with some good smokiness in the background. Her second drink was the Whatever Floats Your Boat (Ford's gin, lemon juice, velvet falernum, orgeat, passion fruit syrup, guava soda, topped with hazelnut passion fruit foam, $19). It is served in a cool boat mug, and triggers thunder sound effects and lighted mechanical Polynesian tiki characters paddling a canoe over the bar. This was another good balanced drink. It was a little gin forward and the passion fruit popped out, maybe from being both in the drink and the foam top. That creamy hazelnut passion fruit form on top is delicious. I'd happily have a glass of that on its own. We were still a little hungry so we ordered the Hawaiian pizza (marinara, diced pepperoni, red onion, pineapple chunks, hot capicola ham, $16). It was another good tasting, perfectly sized snack, and the crust was light and airy. We were already fifteen minutes over our time limit, but we got the green light to stay longer to order a third drink to share. We ordered the Tiki Diablo (Flor de Cana Eco rum, Worthy Park 109 rum, Alma Tepecha chile liqueur, orange juice, lime juice, mango syrup, guava soda, $24). This drink serves two people, is served in a cool volcano bowl with glowing red lava around it, and comes with a fire show. Unfortunately, right after it was served, the host came over and said we were over our time and had to leave shortly. Christian made up for it by giving us two tall pours to go enjoy in the bowling alley bar area which was fine. We were happy we got some extra time inside. The drink was also very good, balanced with a little complexity. We had a great time. There is so much great décor to look at. The drinks and food were very good, and some of the the drink presentations and special effects were the icing on the cake. All of the bartenders were very friendly and a lot of fun. We purchased up a few zombie glasses to take home as a souvenir. I'd definitely recommend visiting the Lucky Tiki in Highland Park!

We decided to get a drink to celebrate Father's Day, only to strike out at the first two bars we tried--I guess a lot of places are closed at 9:30 on a Sunday. This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water.
