Edited** - My initial conversations with my sales rep were great. Everything seemed extremely legit and professional and I was ready for a stress free move. Moving day comes, our family moving into our first home we purchased, and the already stressful situation of moving with a young baby becomes more stressful. The movers damaged my newborn daughter's dresser, broke our animal food storage container, and took two of our moving mats. I could understand the mishap with the moving mats, but the damage to our items was unacceptable. The head mover (day of mind you) instructed me my only option for damage coverage was 60cents/lb, which was never communicated to me prior to moving day because we were a "short distance" move making our coverage low. Fast forward to my discussions with the claims department where they told me they would definitely take care of this and provide me a solution that would be sure to make me happy. Our initial claim came back much lower than expected, but after speaking with a manager, who was extremely helpful, they offered to fully reimburse me for all of the items and on top of this add an extra $500 for the hassle. While the damage was unfortunate, I understand things happen and the extra lengths the customer service department took to go above and beyond to reimburse me really left me with an overall good feeling from my move. read more

Superb experience start to finish! Prior to arrival on moving day, I received several emails and then a confirmation call to establish the best time to arrive. Marius introduced himself and let me know when to expect them and confirmed the details of the move. Upon arrival on site he introduced himself to our concierge and confirmed the buildings requirements. Next he came upstairs to take a tour of the apartment & logistics of the move to our landing area. He then went over what he saw as the best plan for our situation. An aspect that really stood out to me was that I demonstrated insecurity about my desk not being ready and Marius sensed that and offered to take care of it. I was working all day prior to their arrival & had a lot of important paperwork including stacks of business cards on my desk. He took the time to reassure me that I needn't worry and that they would take care of everything. He would label the box "top of desk" so I would know exactly where my important items were. This ability to understand and adapt to what was important to the client made me at ease instantly! From that moment forward his team engaged and took over for what was a completely efficient, impressive & careful move! A final point of note is that they adapt quickly to any scenario that occurs. We had several challenges come up along the way including pets, stairs & furniture that could not fit and upon every obstacle Marius came to us to discuss the situation and what the options were. We are relocating the house of 40 years full of stuff to two other states. We chose roadways moving company because dealing with Justin on a zoom call to ID all the stuff being moved was very efficient and easy. Fortunately, and, as we had hoped, that was a good indicator of things to come. The three guys that showed up to pack the house up were excellent. They were pleasant. They were in good moods and they worked their keister's off. They were so efficient that it was fun to watch how they wrapped everything making it look like a bunch of mummies. We are writing this the day after they wrapped and packed everything and put it into the big moving truck. So we haven't had the experience at the other end yet, but we are very comfortable it's going to be just as good. We know one thing, we can not imagine anything being damaged the way they packed. I hired Roadway to do a cross-country move from New York to California. Needless to say, a long distance move like that is very stressful. Roadway made it as painless as possible. The visited me well in advance of the move, gave me a fair estimate, and on the day of the move three guys showed up exactly on time. They were very careful in packing everything up and told me my furniture would arrive in two to four weeks. My moving date was July 18, so I could expect all my stuff between the end of July and the middle of August. August 9 I received a call that my furniture and everything would be delivered the next day. Promptly at 10 a.m., the moving van arrived, and as all the furniture was being unpacked, it turned out that somewhere between New York and California, the movers managed to break three glass furniture tops, one picture frame, and two lampshades. The movers took photos of all the broken items and I contacted the business office thr next day to inquire about restitution. Two weeks later a guy from Roadway came to my new home and measured the furniture for new glass tops. These were fabricated and installed a week later, along with the broken picture frame which was completely repaired. The company reimbursed me fully for the broken lampshades and threw in a little extra. I has assessed the cost of the lampshades at $150 and they sent me a check for $200. So -- the broken items were a major annoyance but Roadway did repair and return them promptly at no cost whatever, and reimbursed me for the lampshades that couldn't be repaired. The movers were prompt and efficient, and the office staff was polite and professional throughout. Special shout-out to Shari Chichester and Krystal Gonzalez who guided me through the whole complicated process and kept my from losing my marbles. All was well that ended well. The move-out went smoothly, the move-in went well, and the damaged and broken items were all repaired and compensated. Overall, they did a very good job. Five stars. read more

If you'd like to make your life even more challenging when preparing for a move, try Roadway Moving. Upon filling out the online form on there website for a quote, they called me a day later to confirm my phone and email address and to schedule yet ANOTHER call before I could get an initial quote. This next call, was to talk to someone who will virtually walkthrough my home and do an itemized assessment of each item in the home in order to accurately charge per item being moved during the move. After the initial 10 minutes of this process (I.e a person literally notating every napkin and pencil in my home to add to their list), and not even being out of the first room in my home, I had enough. This process was a complete waste of time. If this company moves people for a living, a local move does not require this. If it's this hard to deal with these people before a stressful time on moving, it undoubtedly only gets worse from here. All said and done, the rep quoted me $2,500-$3,500 to move a 2,000 sq ft home 25 miles. Whether that's within your budget or not, is based on your personal situation, but at a time when I personally need to be as efficient as possible and looked for help during the process, compared to every other moving company out there, these people wasted the MOST of my time. read more

I chose Roadway because I had seen some friends using them in the NYC area. The entire process has been very professional and the corporate team has been on top of everything. Today was move-out day and the team of Elliot, Cesar and Ever were great. I could see how careful they were with my belongings, very thorough with wrapping all the items. I've moved many times (including cross country twice) and it was clear they were very professional and caring about the job they were doing. The price is extremely competitive (I got estimates from 2 other moving companies and one of those Pod companies) and Roadway was less expensive than the others. So I had arranged a move with Roadway moving based on the Yelp score I saw. Having used their services I'm sad to say I was left disappointed and feeling mislead. I scheduled a move from one location (a two floor condo) to two different drop off locations(a storage unit and a final destination that was a home) on June 28th at 9am. I phoned the associate who helped book to confirm the meeting time for the movers, the day of the move however...the movers don't contact me until 3pm telling me they're en route. I couldn't do the move that day as the storage unit closed at 5pm so we rescheduled for another day that week. In the process of rescheduling I asked if a partial refund was possible. I was told I was given a 600 dollar credit for the mishap. When the move actually happened (June 30th) the movers were excellent! Super prepared, organized and took such care of my belongings. I was really pleased, however I'm still awaiting the 600 dollar credit, I had to make several phone calls to get a confirmation regarding the credit even happening. Edit. So I was reached out to earlier this week and my refund was rushed. And for having to wait for the refund I was offered another 300 dollar refund. Needless to say I was super happy and all things considered the costumer service was super polite and understanding my frustrations. Would totally recommend to friends and will be calling again in the future. read more

I usually don't like dealing with movers bc they're not very friendly or communicative but Roadway was a whole different kind of moving company. They were very communicative and clear with how the move was going to go, as well as pricing. They were on time, gave me a courtesy call before they came and they respected my house and my belongings as if it were theres. They laid down carpet on the areas they would be walking on so they wouldn't get the place dirty and even covered our entry door to keep anything from scratching. Like many, I've only had *horrific* experiences with moving companies. Granted, most of these were easy local moves, until my last move that was from California to New York. I thought I'd done my due diligence, but boy oh boy was I terribly wrong. The experience left me almost paralyzed when it came to even thinking about working with another moving company....especially another long distance move. I was referred to Roadway and honestly had little to no expectations after being thoroughly convinced that every moving company was the same. Dishonest, slow, careless, etc. I was so wrong. Avi was the one who helped me get my move set up and he was nothing but amazing. He was thorough, he was honest, and he was patient in answering every single one of my silly questions to try and figure out where the "catch" would be, or how they'd manage to screw me over. No catches here. No hidden prices. No "gotcha" moments where you find yourself wondering why you didn't ask "that one extra question" or ask for something in writing. These guys, from start to finish, have been next level. They are unbelievably hard-working, they are honest, and they have been (honestly) an absolute JOY to work with. I will absolutely never even think about using another moving company as long as I live. NOTE: They are expensive, yes. Definitely more than others I looked at, but they are worth *every darn penny* in my opinion. They treat your belongings with the utmost care and handle absolutely *everything* from start to finish. My long-distance move was SIX days! SIX! My last one took over 4 weeks. I have finally accepted that with cheap movers, you absolutely get what you pay for. I like to be honest. I'll own up to it. I was skeptical when my on-site estimator said, "If you choose us, you will understand why people say we're the best." I mean, don't they all say that? Well. She was telling the damn truth. Roadway is incredible. I've done two cross-country moves in the past 5 years. Thankfully, I've had two good experiences. Roadway was 20% better than any move I've ever done. The pickup crew was so efficient and fast, we were able to leave a day early. They finished several hours before we had planned. When Jose the foreman said, "Are you ready? Because we are going to come in like a hurricane" --- He was telling the damn truth. I blinked and the kitchen was packed with care and securely boxed! I expected it to take a week to get our stuff. They loaded on Wednesday, and I had a call over the weekend scheduling delivery on Monday. It didn't seem possible! The unload crew prepped with floor coverings and quickly unloaded the boxes and re-assembled the furniture. Every crew member was a treat to work with (even though they didn't all the hard work). Not the budget provider in town (NYC) but an A+ experience from top to bottom. Anderson and his crew did a stellar job over two days. The packing service was well worth it. Would have taken me at least a week what they accomplished in a day. They do things very carefully and the furniture is wrapped and protected amply in preparation for move. They even handled my baby grand piano about as well as would be expected from a dedicated piano mover! I would recommend these guys wholeheartedly despite the somewhat higher cost. read more

Had a terrible move with Roadway. I have moved 5 times in my adult life and this was the worst and most unprofessional (in small doses). The scheduling and support to book the move was good, except for our delivery window that was a month, could show up the 10 May or as late as 10 June. The packing crew was professional and nice. Once the move was underway, no status updates or delivery windows until 2 days before. We ended up missing a few boxes, externally damaged boxes with broken glasses and some records, as well as dented furniture (corners). The delivery movers also damaged our new place, ~$1k of repairs. Once the second half of the payment was completed, Roadway customer service went from good to terrible. I will not use roadway again. read more

Will update once move is complete: so far not happy at ALL. I am in middle of a move from NYC to Miami. My furniture was picked up on time last Sunday which was great without any problems. Before giving deposit anytime I called or sent email everyone was so quick to answer. They have now gone radio silent. Everyday I call and am told you will he receiving an update on delivery by end of day. That started on Thursday. Its now monday. I wouldn't be surprised inquiring so much if someone from the company didn't call me first to let me know that an update was on the way! It's been 8 days and no contact. The guy Kevin I was dealing with on email - doesn't respond ever since he got deposit. Maybe I'll be able to add some stars if they actually decide to answer their phone and not just transfer me to customer service that no one picks up.... very doubtful. Very disappointed. From this point I'd suggest going with flat rate moving. They were a bit more expensive but clearly it would have been worth it. Hopefully they can prove me wrong.. update to come. UPDATE: the guys who delivered were beyond nice brought everything super quick and were very helpful. Just because of them I raise the stars to 4. Choosing a moving company can feel like rolling the dice. You can survey all the available rating systems -- Angie's List, Yelp, etc. -- and still find a lot of negative reviews for every company. Add the less than stellar reputation the moving industry has picked up over the decades -- deserved or not -- and it can really feel like a gamble. I chose Roadway for my move from New Jersey to California for a few reasons. Foremost, they not only had a high percentage of positive ratings (as several other moving companies did), but I saw that they generally responded to people who left negative reviews and offered to make good on whatever went wrong. They were responsive and courteous by phone. And their pricing was competitive. They largely charge by cubic foot, rather than by weight as many other movers do, and this felt like it would be more economical for my specific moving job (I'm not sure it was, but their quote was a little less than weight-based movers quoted me upfront). In short, I am happy with their service. Joe, in New York, was in frequent communication with me during the setup and patiently answered questions. The drivers and loaders I interacted with at both pick up and delivery were courteous and conscientious. While they delivered my possessions a few days later than they first confidently predicted (but not promised) they would arrive, it was still well within the window contracted. The famliar inventory system they use (the usual stickers and digital spreadsheets, etc.) felt thorough enough to keep mistakes minimal. I encountered no errors with that aspect. Nothing arrived damaged, as far as I can tell. For the boxes and bins, I'll attribute 70 percent of this to their diligent care, and 30 percent to my over-the-top packing, taping and padding practices. For the loose items (sofa, recliner, etc.), they wrapped them with blankets and plastic film in a way thorough enough to make them seem impervious to at least any mild to moderate incidents along the journey. There was no hint of any classic mover shenanigans like changing the quote after pickup, adding extra fees, holding the cargo hostage and otherwise trying to shake more money out of the customer through unethical tricks. If I need a long-distance mover again, I wouldn't have any apprehension about hiring a Roadway Long Distance Moving second time. read more
