I definitely should have stood on not returning here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we walked in it seemed pretty slow. Only seen 2 men sitting at the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We stood at the host stand where they had a sign that said to ring the bell for service. We rang it and someone came from the kitchen right away to seat us. We were sat near the back of the restaurant but a football game was coming on soon (which they have tv's in the bar area) so I asked if we could be moved to the bar area and she handed me the menus and said to sit where ever (she was nice about it). [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did notice a few tables had plates on them, as in haven't been cleaned off from the last party that sat there, no one ever came out to clean those tables the entire duration we stayed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As I mentioned earlier there were 2 men at the bar then us in the restaurant as customers. The bartender/waiter came out and served us, he was cool but would disappear to the kitchen for long periods, when we were ready to pay I had to get up and go to the kitchen to let him know we were ready to pay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the men sitting at the bar (by garnishes, bottles and glasses) was coughing and wiping/blowing his nose at the bar and placing the dirty tissues on the bar top which was gross.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The two men went out side a few times to smoke and the guy would come back in coughing even more aggressively and post pandemic that was concerning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As the waiter was bringing our food he could tell we were grossed out and he stood back as the man was coughing before placing our food. He made a comment to us about the guy coughing but didn't say much to him directly. I've never worked in the food industry so I'm not sure how these situations are handled but I was definitely super uncomfortable and eager to leave. Needless to say not my crowd. We ordered the basil fried rice w/ chicken, jalapeños wontons and a few drinks. Rice portion was still iffy especially for the price. The wontons were just okay. Overall I wasn't too impressed.

It has been a LONG time since I've been here. It used to be my favorite Thai place, but that was before I explored other great places MN has to offer. Honestly, it held up. The flavor's are great. However, I ordered Pad See Yew and Drunken Noodle and I honestly could barely tell them apart. I know they are similar dishes, but a little more variation could help. Lastly, I remember the Fried Rice being really good, and that's primarily what I wanted to review... but they forgot my order and I didn't want to correct the issue (luckily I ordered too much anyways). I'd go back.

The spring rolls were light and fresh. I had the pineapple fried rice, it was amazing! Even the left overs were delicious. I cannot wait to come back!

Counting down the days until I return to MN so I can come in for dinner!!! Must try items in my opinion. Sriracha Fried Rice (my all time favorite, and a must order every time) Panang Curry with Chicken Grilled Beef Jerky (Appetizer Menu) Delicious offerings from the Happy Hour Menu: Pork fried spring rolls Cream Cheese Wontons Chicken Satay Calamari Thai dumplings Photos are from the last few visits when I dined in over this past summer. Salivating as I write this post. Must try if you live in the Twin Cities or surrounding area. Or plan a day trip or date night and take a little road trip!!

I really like the tom yum soup here, but the spicyest level was still kind of weak. I love the appitizer sampler too.

Definitely the best Thai restaurant in the twin cities hands down. Beware not to get a "spicy" or greater than a 4 level.

Our server was super helpful answering all of our questions. Here's what we ordered - I would eat it all again. - Laab lettuce wraps - Balinese chicken thigh - Hanoi sticky rice - Hat yai fried chicken - Vietnamese crepe - Passion fruit posset The restaurant has a tiny parking lot, but there is also street parking available in the neighborhood.

Food was better last year and the year before. Had the Balinese chicken thigh which seemed better in previous years but I still wouldn't kick it out of bed. Service was abhorrent. Like you know when you go to a restaurant and they make you feel like you are there for them and not the reverse? Disinterested, disengaged server who didn't check back. It felt like we were an inconvenience. Also, it's 2026 so it's weird when the server dismissively leaves one check without asking how to divide it for a party of six. Pretty weird. ANYwhoo the only thing our service guaranteed is that I won't be back. There are plenty of other options with great service and I'm sad that Hai Hai, a once mind blowingly amazing establishment in food, service, ambience has become where the tip decision is based solely on not wanting to hurt someone's livelihood. Such a shame.

The volume in the restaurant is quite loud, so the patio may be better if you don't want to speak up at the table. Service is on the slower side but the food is worth the wait. -- The Sakoo small plate was an incredible dish! The texture contrast between the filling, chewy exterior, and lettuce shell was fantastic. It was so flavorful and has a bit of a spice kick to it. -- The Mango Fish entree was packed with flavor, and is a very umami-forward dish. The piece of crispy salmon skin on the side is perfectly crunchy and salty. It's a filet of salmon (not a whole fish) and the salmon is nice and buttery. -- The Duck Fried Rice entree had good flavor but the duck meat was dry. It did not come with the duck leg or crispy skin, and instead had chunks of duck meat throughout the dish. This dish has a bit of a spice kick to it. -- The Pistachio Orange Blossom Cake dessert was SO GOOD. I'm not a huge dessert person and I ate every bite of this. The cake is so moist and pairs well with the fluffy mousse covering the cake. The little bits of baklava and orange zest complemented this dish really well.

I will be thinking of how good that dish is for the rest of my life; the coconut milk and lime combined with the texture of fresh seafood really hit the spot! The Thai basil wings and Massaman curry were very yummy also. I enjoyed my meal so thoroughly that I forgot to take many pictures. The presentation on my cocktail (a tonic with vodka and buddha hand fruit) was very pretty. Service was thoughtful and quick. The restaurant itself was beautiful and open and airy -- I almost felt like I wasn't in Minneapolis anymore. We went on a Tuesday, and only drawback I'd say is that the noise level can be a little bit loud due to the acoustics and how the room is one giant space. Otherwise, very happy with the restaurant and would go again.

The flavors here are wildly different. I've been here before with friends and they've ordered the curry, but the curry looked too watery and that kind of should've told me that it wasn't going to be a hit of a Thai place for me. I like closer to a thicker sauce for coconut curry. Usually the Thai places that have more watery coconut curry sauces just hits a little lower & it def shows. Amazing Thai has this same issue lol. Now, this place too... I feel lost without a fav Thai place in Minne lol. The string beans were crunchy in the papaya salad which was great but the entire sauce tasted like MSG & lacks the Lao shrimp paste flavor although it was more grey since I did order the Lao style but not enough shrimp paste flavor as it should have. Either this place has different cooks etc., it is not the same as a year ago or more. I took a few bites of each plate and I wrapped it up to go, and I threw it in the garbage since my stomach was churning had to take some Tums lol. This place, Amazing Thai, & Sawatdee are the bottom 3 for me. Back to the drawing table. (I've never seen an Asian person eat here... I guess that says a lot?)
