Roberto Taco Shop has really good tacos with lots of meat... Their rolled tacos with guacamole are really good. HOWEVER, I decided to try something different this time. I tried the taco salad special. It was edible, but it wasn't the kind of taco salad I would order again. The salad looked good from the top,but as I started eating it, there were all these peppers and onions...lots of them and the bottom of my taco salad shell bowl was all soggy and not enough chicken either and there was water in the box. It was all mush! Not delicious! And whoever was handling the food, it also tasted like soap or some kind of sanitizer. It just was not what I expected in a taco salad. The workers were nice, there wasn't anyone sitting in the restaurant. This is a 24-hour place if you want late night food. 8pm wasn't busy on a Tuesday evening... They don't have a taco Tuesday special. They have a Wednesday chicken taco special. I tried the enchiladas one time before this review, and it was laced with a lot of peppers and onions and lacking meat also. I like a crunchy taco shell bowl and plenty of meat. This is a mix. If I could actually give it 3 1/2, I would. I really come for the pickled vegetables and the salsa. I like the carne asada tacos, they cute the craving, but the pickles is what is really great about this place and that they are open late. I'm unsure why people have bad reviews, as I haven't read them, but I thanked the girl at the window, for actually having REAL Mexican food, and I was taken aback, when she told me that people complain, about -NOT- having all that extra rice/beans/crap in their burritos!! To those people I say: "You probably haven't lived on the border/border town. You probably haven't even been to Mexico, let alone live there (like I HAVE), so if you want whitewashed, crappy burritos filled with rice and beans and other foreign debris, instead of Carne or Pollo (NOT 'STEAK' OR 'CHICKEN') for $14, then go to another "Mexican" restaurant, because THIS, my friends, is A TRUE, REAL, AUTHENTIC TACO SHOP. Honestly? Just a wonderful 24 hour spot. With a lot of places closing early, I was craving something a little bit more exciting than fast food. This was a great discovery near my hotel in Reno. Not sure how I have missed this on previous visits but am happy to have found it now. Yes, it is in the genre of Mexican "fast food" but it is not particularly "fast" (since they cook and assemble everything upon order and things are not sitting under heat lamps waiting to be used) and it does not suffer from the typical US influences into Mexican fast food that turns it more into Tex-Mex versions of things or worse. It passed many of my subjective wants in this type of food place: 1) It is open 24/7 and it has a drive through (convenient for jet-lagged travelers like me seeking sustenance in the middle of the night). 2) It appeared to me to have Mexican people in it running the place and everyone in line ordering and eating there also appeared to be of Mexican descent (Food authenticity is best tested by those cooking it and eating it in my book). 3) It was clean. They were clearly complying with all of the COVID-19 related mandates and their employees were prompt, friendly and efficient. 4) It was affordable (as my photo shows, $7 for a meal of authentic food available anytime is well worth it). 5) And for the bonus round, they have some great complimentary condiments (normally inside has a salsa bar that is not available during COVID-19 but on my drive through order, I received salsa rojo, salsa verde, individually bagged limes, and some classic escabeche (Mexican pickled vegetables) to go along with my meal! Having been there only once, I can only comment on the Carne Asada Tacos I had. They were great. Tasty, stuffed full with coarse chopped thin steak, pico de gallo and a thin schmear of avocado paste. Really delicious and satisfied the craving. My only complaint is that they are single corn tortilla-wrapped which is probably how they keep the cost down ($3.25 each!) but a single tortilla is insufficient to effectively contain the volume of ingredients. Upon picking them up and trying to stuff them in my mouth, the tortilla promptly burst on both of them and I end up eating my meal more like a salad with a fork due to all the spillage. Don't get me wrong....the food has always been good here but the reason for a 1 star is this is the 2nd time in a row that I went thru drive thru and specifically ordered 3 BEEF rolled tacos, opened it up at home and took a bite of chicken. It's very disappointing when you're pallet is expecting one thing and get something else. This time I even told them what happened and said I want BEEF please!! And this time I called the store to complain since it was the 2nd time. The girl that answered the phone said the manager wasn't there, and when I explained my situation...she said that it was up to the cook to get the order right and not her in customer service. Covid-19 procedures: From what I could see, staff were all wearing masks and gloves while cooking and taking your order. There wasn't a whole lot of social distancing going on, though. We arrived here late (past 2100) to grab a couple burritos to take home with us to eat the next day. My Wife has been wanting to try this place for a while as we always see it during her Dutch Bros visits. Customer service was not that good. There was no greeting from the lady behind the counter. She just sort of stood there and waited for our order and once we did, there wasn't a "thank you" or anything after we paid. As stated above, we took our burritos home and ate them the next day and even with that day in between, it was still pretty good. It isn't something I would write home or rave about here on Yelp, but still pretty good (we both ordered carne asada burritos in case you're wondering). We would come back but if we did, we'd probably skip going inside and just order through the drive through. If first impressions are everything this place is gross. The floors are covered with food and every table in the place needed to be cleaned. Multiple lazy employees walked into the dining area, looked around and did nothing to remedy the mess. That said, the food is pretty good. Better than most taquerias in the area as most have little to no seasoning. The adobada burrito was flavorful without tasting like dried spices. I would prefer not to drink out of non recyclable poly styrene cups and I worry that the kitchen is as dirty as the dining area was. I enjoyed both the green and red salsa sauces. Got the carnita plate and carnita nachos. Soft non-fat lean beef slivers. Just right size. Overall, very mild in flavors. Came to Roberto's, been here many times and always get the same thing. The Carne Asada fries and order the guacamole and pico de gallo on the side because I am allergic. Well, I they put guacamole in my fires. When I called to let them know, they said I had to have the receipt. I came back to the restaurant with the receipt, within 10 min of leaving the restaurant. They took the food back from me and wouldn't give me my refund. When I demanded my refund, they closed the window in my face and flipped me off. Guadalupe is the cashier who took my order. HORRIBLE SERVICE! They remade the food, but after having to drive all the way back to deal with the issue, I didn't want the food. I just wanted my refund!! read more

Finally stopped by to try the carne asada fries. I've never been to the first location near UNR due to bad parking and limited space. I saw this location driving down Virginia one day. It's in the old MTO Fresh location. Needless to say, I was excited to see this location because it has easy parking and more space. Stopped by for lunch on a Thursday at 11:30. It was somewhat busy but not slammed. I got the carne asada fries and the wife got a taco/cheese enchilada plate. I like that they have a salsa bar with pickled carrots and peppers. Very good. The fries were pretty good, they don't skimp on the meat. Basically it's nachos with fries for chips. Definitely something for late night munchies which makes this a great location since it's right across from the Atlantis! Wife enjoyed her taco/enchilada plate. I noticed that the taco is way bigger than the ordinary fast food taco. Going try that next time. I only wish there was a location closer to where I live. Came here on Labor Day Weekend 11 people deep and it was very yummy. Tacos were very good, taquitos were excellent, I like that they do menudo the real Mexican style way with no hominy, and the chips were still warm coming to the table. Robertos looks like your typical greasy mexican food, drive thru and I've only had one thing on the menu so I can't speak for the rest, but their breakfast burritos are a huge hit at my house! They come with cheese, egg, potatoes and your choice of meat (bacon bacon bacon, every time!). I frequent Robertos when I need a hangover breakfast burrito. And both the salsas, green and red are sooo spicy and so delicious!!!! I got a adobada burrito, and two chicken tacos. We also got lots of Verde salsa. My wife was satisfied with the salad. My chicken tacos were good. Nice and crunchy. Chicken had a good flavor and lots of cheese. Now, the burrito is where they faltered. It was a good size, but that's where it ends. The tortilla was completely grease soaked. The meat - every bite had gristle. I can understand some, sure. But every bite had a chunk of crunchy fat in it. Whatever good flavor there was got forgotten by the experience of biting into meat that wasn't trimmed very well before cooking. Which bummed me out honestly. I really wanna like this place. This is a cheap 24-hour Taco Shop. Don't expect your mind to be blown, don't expect folks there to answer questions about organic, gluten, non-GMO, or whether the beans are farm to table. But if you want a nostalgic greasy AF crispy taco, this is a good place to grab a few. We had a messed up order once, but they made it right. Check your takeout bag before you leave. I am not sure if it is the norm, but the cheese was simply unmelted shredded cheese over the top of both dishes. There was quite a bit asada on both dishes, but it was terribly bland. Great place to grab lunch or dinner! The staff is very friendly and even gave a homeless guy free lunch. Prices are great and food is always fresh. I eat here about once a week. The drive thru takes longer than most, since they take longer to make the food than most fast food restaurants. Stopped by this place on my way home from work. They have their special $1.29 Chicken Tacos. Got that for family's dinner and also got the Lengua Burrito. I haven't tried the tacos but inhaled the burrito! Full of yummilicious lengua. Had chunks of onion, which I loved cos it added lots of flavor. And their salsa verde is delicious! And so we went to drive up and we order 3 to go and the server was fast, although my wife complained that the beef was salty I tasted it and it was a little bit salty but I'm not complaining because I sometimes like my food a little bit salty. Unfortunately visited this place multiple times for weeks. Everytime asked for clarification on ingredients in the beans as well as the guacamole. Everytime we were told that there is NO lard in beans , and NO dairy in the guacamole. Which in fact was FALSE. My fiancé has been very unwell for weeks and we were confused as to why. SHE IS EXTREMELY ALLERGIC TO DAIRY PRODUCTS Due to the misinformation she has been to the hospital and bed ridden. Will be moving forward legally. I sat in the line in the drive thru for 15 minutes and not one person came to the drive up window after I ordered my food. I had to leave the drive thru and come back around and go inside. Where I continued to be ignored. The women working the drive thru is the most foul person I have ever met in any kind of dining eats like T and should be fired. Not one single customer in the place and no one in the drive thru. Now all of the employees come walking out of a room in the back where they were all doing their drugs together. My food was the wrong order and the food was cold. If you want employees who do drugs together in the back of the kitchen be careful as they will screw up your order take your money and not give a second thought. I will be contacting OSHA and the health department as well and signing a formal complaint about what really happens in the kitchen and the disgusting things the employees do in the kitchen around food. I will never eat here again and I hope that the health dept. comes to this business and shuts them down. I will never eat another thing from Roberto's and I truly hope the nastiness taking place in this restaurant, that the place is shut down and overhauled. It's gross and disgusting and no wonder everyone is getting sick at this place lately! Glad I didn't eat the food and glad it was the wrong food. Beware and find a different place to eat. Craving a chicken taco and we have been wanting to try Roberto's for awhile, so stopped in. It was 11:30, so just a couple of other people were there on a Monday. First thing I noticed was that it was very clean- a nice, bright interior. I ordered my chicken taco and my husband ordered a carnitas burritos. These were both ala carte, but there were many combination plates to choose from. The taco was crisp, had lots of chicken, lettuce and cheese. I added their salsa Verde from the salsa bar-excellent. My husband, a chef, really enjoyed his burrito. He specified how he likes it when they grill the pork, which they did. It was full of goodness, so full that he was only able to eat half.
