I'm going to base my review on FOOD SAFETY. We were going to eat here based on the positive Yelp reviews. After watching the cook grab a container of fries from the bottom of the fridge in a container that was uncovered (what could have dropped into it from above) he grabbed a handful of fries with his bare hands and dropped them in the fryer. Then he walked over and grabbed a currently dirty rag and wiped the cutting board down that he was absolutely to use. Just finished licking my fingers after eating the most delicious burger I've had in quite a while. I got the Western burger, which is pretty much a standard for me when I see one on the menu wherever I happen to stop for a burger. The restaurant is understated... not over the top with the Rock and Roll theme... but it is a really comfortable place to grab a bite. THE STAFF: Without hesitation... they were awesome, super friendly, courteous, and attentive. This was my first trip there, but I know it will become my at-least-once-a-week stop (it's walking distance to my work). THE FOOD: Like I said... great burger! Fresh made while I watched... both grilled and griddled, fresh crispy lettuce, a huge onion ring (getting onion rings as a side instead of fried next time) and a really good sweet and tangy bbq sauce. The crinkle-cut fries were cooked to perfection... lightly crisp on the outside, but light and flaky on the inside, with a dash of seasoned salt. THE PRICES: By burger and fries came to $10 including tax, and worth every penny. The serve beer in bottles, and have Stella on tap, if that's your thing. Generous covered outdoor seating on their patio, and about 10 or 12 tables inside. Great location in the middle of Simi Valley on Tapo Street. read more

Wow is all I can say! After seeing this place over the years the family and I finally took the plunge. The service was on point, the burgers were insanely fresh, and the fries were legit! Overall I was very happy with the food and service. Then the icing on the cake for us was also that the prices were extremely reasonable. The only thing I'd change if I could would be the kids chicken nuggets. It would be nice to have more of the chicken strips instead with better quality meat. Tried this for the first time and I have to say, it was just okay. Philly cheesesteak were thick pieces of steak not shaved like I was expecting. Although it had a good flavor it was very chewy. The hamburger my husband had was dismal, at best. It was definitely a frozen patty and roughly the size of a McDonalds burger with lettuce and tomorrow. We did enjoy the Kringle fries and the milkshakes looked good but sadly, didn't have one. read more

Love this place! Independently owned, great, friendly service! The food is wonderful. We usually get the Western Burger and Chicken Sandwich (prefer it on sourdough but the sandwich roll is good, too) and are never disappointed. And, the hot dog is awesome. The sweet potato fries are superb! We prefer to support a locally owned business such as this one and it's a pleasure to do so. [This is written during the Corona Virus shut down. Writing this review while the burger is still in my stomach. I make it a point to try to support local businesses. Simi has a ton of chain restaurants and it's very sad to see people choose based on familiarity rather than giving small businesses a chance. The menu is rather limited, think In-N-Out but with some salad and other sandwich options. Pricing is fair for items received. Let's get down to the food... I ordered a burger with cheese and some onion rings. The system is set up so you add on items you want like cheese, bacon, and avocado for an additional cost. Again, fairly priced. The burger came out looking rather picturesque, it's clear they take pride in their food. The burger itself was fine, almost standard to what a burger would be if you asked a group of people what it should taste like. I found myself wanting something more on it. Some secret sauce, some amazing sauce choices, something aside from the typical mayo, lettuce, onion, tomato. Give me an angle or reason to come back. The onion rings were good, there were roughly 7 large rings in my order. Typical onion ring situation where you pull the onion from the breaded sleeve and consume it in one bite. Still good. Overall it's a fine place. I want it to succeed but I'd have a hard time recommending it to people when you can get a tasty In-N-Out burger at a cheaper cost. It pains me to say that. If the owners read this, please think about expanding the topping options or sauce choices for your burgers. As it stands right now, the chain restaurant (In-N-Out) has the upper hand. read more

My wife and I ate here about a week ago. Initially when it opened I had assumed that it would be an overpriced, kitschy nostalgia diner, but she was keen on trying it out. As often happens, she was right and I was happily mistaken. The food was very good, and very reasonably priced. The interior was clean and actually much more interesting than many other Rock n Roll places. What really put it head and shoulders above the rest was the service. The people behind the counter didn't come off like automatons, programmed to act happy. They engaged their clientele. Clearly they know their regulars by name; I saw the owner chatting with one of the customers for quite a long time while we were eating. This is why local businesses will always be better than big chains, and why we need to support them with our business. The only reason I didn't give them a full five stars is because I believe they could be doing much more with the interior space and in the community (Rock and Roll open mic night, possibly?). But it's a new start-up and it's an excellent beginning. read more

Have been meaning to stop in here for (literally) years now...and finally did it tonight. Now I am disappointed that I waited this long. The food was fantastic - really. The prices were VERY reasonable - the place was spotless and the service could not have been better. I know it sounds like I work there...but I don't. I just feel bad for the owner that people like me drive by without checking it out. He is doing a great job -- and I hope the world rewards that. Came here on a Sunday right after church. It's right next to the mini walmart (yes Simi has 3 walmarts) The floor is nasty. It's not been deep cleaned ever. The bathroom is worse. Ordered the shoestring fries which were overcooked. An the hot dog. Which was meh. Mr owner - please bring In a company to do a deep clean on everything. Tired and hungry, our family was looking for something quick and warm. We took a chance on Rock n Roll Cafe and we came out ahead. We tried the signature burger, the Wild West burger, the BLT, and the kids chicken tenders, as well as onion rings and fries. Everything was prepared well and tasty. The burgers are top notch... in fact, they are the best burger I've had... and I've had a lot. Better than Boulevard Burgers on Ventura Blvd., which heretofore had the best. If there is a better bacon double cheeseburger in California, I've yet to find it. I would recommend coming to Simi Valley wherever you are now just to eat this burger at Rock N Roll Cafe. Gave this place another try, and found that I had been a bit harsh. The owner comes from a work history including In n Out and The Habit, and that's what this place is best compared to. The burger was slightly higher than In n Out quality, but I still prefer The Habit. The fries were good for steak fries - think Red Robin quality - and there were a ton of them, so excellent portion size for the price! Overall, worth visiting for a decent burger and very friendly service. read more

Love, love, love this place! My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a shot after visiting Simi Valley's Kawasaki dealership and I'm so glad we did. Both the service and the food here is great! The restaurant is very bright and welcoming with a diner /cafe type vibe. The owner greeted us upon walking in and gave some very helpful pointers on the menu. We ordered the Wild West burger, barbecue chicken salad an order of fries along with onion rings. The wait was short and the food was brought to our table. All of it was delicious! The patties on the burger were juicy tender and seasoned well. The onion rings.. well they were gone within minutes. If your in the area I would highly recommend trying this place.
