We had breakfast here and I had one of the tastiest pancakes there is. Not the usual light and (almost) chewy consistency--it is a bit heavier, more "breadlike" but lighter than bread, and yummy. Amazing food, great service, and a relaxing atmosphere! We ate at Rockwood during our stay at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert, and honestly, this place is amazing! I will say, the hostesses and waitstaff gave us two completely different experiences. The hostesses were a little standoffish and didn't really give us that warm, welcoming greeting you'd expect. Once we were seated, the service was completely different. Our first experience was dining in the main dining area with the whole family, and our waiter, Gerardo, was absolutely wonderful! This was actually our second time having him serve us, and he was just as attentive and friendly as the first time. We had traveled about 2 1/2 hours to get there, and by the time I sat down, I was STARVING. I asked if they had a banana because I needed something to hold me over while we waited for our food, and Gerardo brought me one right away. Now that's service! And the food did not disappoint. The tuna tartare was AMAZING. My husband had the green chile burrito and loved it. I ordered the burger and fries, and let's just say I devoured it! My daughter had the shrimp tacos and said they were amazing as well. We also came back for a second dining experience, after my husband played a round of golf, this time at the bar area, and I actually loved the atmosphere even more. It was calm, quiet, and just a really nice place to unwind. Our food came out quickly, and it was the perfect way to relax after a busy day. Overall, Rockwood is definitely a place I'd come back to. The food, the atmosphere, and especially the service from people like Gerardo really made our experience memorable. We went to Rockwood Grill daily for breakfast while staying at the resort but only had dinner here for one day. I'll comment on both their breakfast and dinner here. The breakfast was good. We have Titanium status with Marriott hence we get the continental breakfast for free but we always paid the $10 extra to upgrade to the full breakfast with hot items. The options are somewhat limited but sufficient for anyone even if you are picky. We stayed there for 10 days to relax and over that 10 day period we have only seen two breakfast items change. The pancake was changed to waffle for 1 day and there was another item but I couldn't remember what it was. Overall the food quality was good though variety was limited. I wish they could have change things a little. The service was fantastic and we absolutely LOVED our interactions with every one of the staff working there, from the reception staff members to their service members. We stayed there for 10 days and had breakfast there everyday, their staff quickly remembered our preferences and would lead us to our usual spot without asking. A few staff members really stood out. Lisa from reception, Lucy and Corinna from the restaurant service team. They remembered our preferences. They would also go beyond what I would normally expect and offer additional help, often without us asking. The dinner was good too. We had bacon wrapped dates and it was absolutely delicious. It's always great when there is a restaurant in the hotel you're staying at that has some solid lunch fare. Our service was great. Always had a full glass and we were well taken care of. It did take a while for us to get our food once it was ordered, but in all fairness I was happy they seated us to begin with, as I believe they were closing in about an hour, something I didn't realize when we walked in. I ordered the BLTA and it was HUGE! The avocado and aoli used in the sandwich were so good. The bacon was crispy. The fries are those big crunchy steak fries and they were tasty! Additionally, it is a pretty nice view of the pool from there which makes for a great atmosphere and feels like you're on vacation when you're there for work. read more

"At first, we approached the host stand because we wanted to sit outside, but several hosts were standing in the foyer and no one offered to guide us or show us the outdoor area so we could see the atmosphere. We were a bit disappointed at first. However, once we were seated outside, the manager came over and apologized for the situation, which we appreciated. Got to the resort late last night, about 45 min after reservation and just before closing, we were greeted delightfully by and prompt seated. I even asked if it was okay and they agreed to seat us! Our server Elena was amazing!!! She was so nice, friendly and took great care of us. She had excellent recommendations for food and dessert and drinks and was super attentive the entire time we were seated. The food came out fairly quick for the kids and then us, drinks too! I got the spicy cucumber margarita and it was one of the best I've had! The restaurant itself is very nice looking, nestled at the water with the swans swimming around! Rockwood is a good vegan option if you stay at the Marriott. We've been staying at the hotel for many years and we always have dinner here at least one time. The menu includes at least one vegan entree that differs by season and it's usually great. The inside of the restaurant looks very luxurious and the lakeside terrace is amazing if you can find a spot or make a reservation ahead of time. My recommendation would be to make sure there's enough staff during busy nights and that they are all properly trained as to what vegan and vegetarian means. read more

We watched her go back and fourth seating others looking miserable the entire time. It was raining so we weren't able to eat outside. We got to our table and we both noticed that the chairs were filthy. They were actually pretty gross. They need to get new chairs! The waiter was very pleasant. He took our order but it took a while to get our food. Again, they were very busy so not going to knock any points off. All the wait staff were working very hard. The food was just ok. Lots and lots of options. It's the perfect place to eat after your round of golf on the Palm Course and a place to get outta the heat. I had a wonderful experience last night eating at Rockwood Grill. I am a foodie and go to many restaurants. It started with a great cocktail to be followed with the most spectacular Calamari and then the Tomahawk Porkchop. The food was absolutely superb. But what stood out beyond compare was our waitress. In all my 70 years I have never had such impeccable service as I did with Elena. She made our dining experience just that much more. She was quick, friendly, and simply put "went above and beyond" it is so wonderful to see such great attentive service in today's world. She made our meal that much better. Came the the resort for 4 days to celebrate our wedding anniversary and honestly we ate most of our meals at Rockwood Grill. We had the buffet breakfast every morning which was great, but what really took our breath away were the views at night sitting outside. We even came once to sit at the bar to watch the Cowboys & Giants game and ordered from their Happy Hour while we waited for our room to be ready. Every server we had was just absolutely top notch and would love to thank all of them for treating us so well. Our last night here we ate at the best table outside which was right next to the water. Our server ended up giving up complimentary champagne since it was our anniversary and that was the perfect touch to end our vacation here! We tried this restaurant 3 times during our stay at the JW Marriott. Two experiences were for breakfast and one for dinner. I'll start by saying it's very overpriced, but everything at this hotel was. Food- breakfast buffet ($40) was good, lots of items, not spectacular though. 7/10. Kids under 3 get food from the buffet for free, which is much appreciated! Avocado toast with smoked salmon added- my husband absolutely loved this and ordered it twice it was so good. 10/10. Huevos Rancheros- yummy and the perfect size dish. I enjoyed the large pieces of chorizo, the beans and crunchy tostadas. 8/10. Breakfast sandwich- this was really great. Soft bread, cheesy, hammy, mustardy. The breakfast potatoes it came with were pretty lame. 8/10. Half rotisserie chicken- meh. Wouldn't order this again. There was really nothing I was interested in on the dinner menu and everything was just so overpriced, so I thought this was the best looking item. I liked the mashed potatoes that it came with. 6/10. Calamari appetizer- this was really good. We liked how it also had fried artichoke hearts and olives. The sauce was also nice. 7/10. All in all, we liked this place for breakfast (if you don't mind spending $100 for breakfast for 2 people), but thought it was a skip for dinner. Go somewhere else. read more

Ambiance 5/5, food is slightly overpriced, but the service was AMAZING and made up for it. ELENA, our waitress was possibly the best server I've ever had in my 35 years of existence. She did things I never thought about, but made a difference: our food was brought out by someone else, but Elena personally came out to serve us the food, she voluntarily suggested to take our pictures after our meal, she brought out a complimentary cake for us (even though we didn't tell her we were celebrating anything) and she took a genuine interest in us and our dining experience. Christmas Brunch this year was not good. We gave it a D We take the family every Christmas. This time the service was horrible. They now charge $20 if you would like champagne. That was very disappointing. The 18% gratuity was added on every check. It didn't matter if it was a party of 2 or larger. This explains the poor service. We had to ask other members to get us more refills for our drinks. No pre bussing etc. The food was the same and nothing was different from last year. The set up was the same. The piano player was not in the best location. It was by the hostess area which didn't make sense. We have decided to go elsewhere next year. Our bill was close to $900.00 which is ridiculous. Party of 5. The ground are very festive with families and friends. Anything goes as far as dressed casually to Pajamas. Some people dress up. You have to make a reservation for the Boat ride but Christmas Day it was canceled due to weather. Hopefully things will improve for the Christmas brunch segment of the dining area. read more
