Spicy California Roll ($8.22) dtd 19July2024
Kingston W.

It was 10pm and I wanted something to eat. If you're familiar with the area, there are five burger brands, a couple of takeout pizza options--and I could look for a taco truck nearby. But I wanted sushi, of all things. I was bemoaning the fact that if I was in some other part of the city (like K-Town), I could get some sushi. On a lark, I Googled "late night sushi" on my mobile and RollStop Sushi came up. RollStop Sushi occupies a small space in a shopping center. It has some indoor seating, but I suspect it fulfills a lot of takeout orders. It is open daily, from 11:30a to 11:30p. On this first visit, I ordered: the Nigiri Combo ($19.18), and the Spicy California Roll ($8.22). With tax ($2.60), the order was $30.00 before any gratuity. The California roll was okay. The price and serving size isn't out of line, compared to other takeout sushi stores of this type. The better value was the Nigiri combo. The size of each piece of fish was generous, and the protein carb ratio tilts in favor of the protein. Keep in mind that this is not a fancy sushi restaurant; but the quality is good. I'm giving RollStop Sushi a "5" because the store is clean; the food is good; and the owners of this store keep it open 12 hours a day (not including opening and closing prep), seven days a week.

Urgent Care visit after eating bad salmon from Rollstop
Valentino V.

Questionable Food Prep/Storage. A friend and I went here earlier this month and got sick. We orderent different items, but both containing salmon, and both of us had stomach pain and diarrhea. My friend's case was so severe that he had to go to urgent care. I called Rollstop several times over multiple days to alert them and request a refund. They never picked up, and their voicemail was full, so sent a text sharing our experience. They asked for the date, time, what we ordered, and a doctor's note, which I provided. They have since ghosted me and never reversed the credit card charges. Is it wrong to want your money back from a place that got you sick? I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but given their dodgy nature and excessive requests (that we satisfied) and no response or actions since, I question their practices. This is also a public safety issue, so I will be escalating this to the California Food Safety board, and would discourage dining there until they have been checked out.

Miso soup and party platter b

The good: I got party tray B for around $95 for 5 adults and 1 toddler. There were California rolls, shrimp tempura rolls, ahi tuna, salmon, and more. I liked that it was quick to order and ready for the entire family because I was in a rush to get lunch with my newborn and toddler at home. It was nice that the Mayo sriracha sauce and eel sauce were on the side as well as the crispy fried onion. I thought the price was reasonable. They offer delivery as well. I'm two weeks post partum so sushi was one of the foods I was looking forward to consuming. The bad: The miso soup didn't have any pieces of seaweed in it and it was quite small. The interesting: I liked the plastic party tray itself so I kept it so I can use for a potluck in the future. They gave some packaged ginger and also some ginger in a separate plastic container.

Meh.. Definitely a one and done. We gave it a try since it's near us but were simply not satisfied with the quality and taste.

$30 and I only got 5 rolls and was all messed up. I have had sushi here before and loved it and got 8 rolls and it was good and presented well. But this time around I'm very disappointed that for the amount of money for one person I got less food and not nicely put together. :(

There are people behind the boards prepping the food.

We decided to come in and see if this near automation was good. My girlfriend and I were pleased by the results. We had our sushi, rice and miso soup. The prices were good, the sushi was on point and the beef gyoza was a surprising deliciousness. We will come back without any doubt. Definitely gave me a feeling of what it's like in Tokyo eating at one of those fully automated places.

Baked Salmon Roll, Dragon Roll and Monroe Roll
Jason L.

For this place being a more of a fast-casual sushi spot, it's a little pricey given the ambiance and set up. I didn't see anyone dining there and all orders were takeout. A roll will run you around $15-20 bucks and each roll has about 8 pieces. We got the baked salmon roll, monroe roll and dragon roll. They were all decent but I think they put far too much sauce on the rolls which take away from the fish itself. If you're looking for sushi rolls and want something casual, this is your spot.

Deep Shrimp Tempura Roll

Deep fried shrimp tempura with cream cheese was BOMB! never had a roll like this. It's a clean place and the people seemed cool. Definitely will come again.

I learned this place stays open late on the weekends and this is where many restaurant staff come to eat! This place is tiny, yet cozy. The tables are placed a bit close, but you still have privacy. She shared the gyoza which was crispy on the outside and flavorful inside. One friend ordered the yakisoba and I tasted it which was very good, I will order it next time. My other friend ordered the mabo tofu which I also had a chance to taste and I could easily understand why my friend says this dish is her comfort food. I ordered the Tan Tan Ramen and it was so good! I took half home to share with my husband. There are so many other dishes I want to try next time! Free parking on the lot. We had to wait 15 minutes for a table, which was totally ok. because the food was so good! Prices are reasonable too. OH! They have Happy Hour!!!

Today we decided to revisit the restaurant for old time's sake. Inside, the main wall was repainted with a new mural. The annual LA Marathon posters, pinned by the staff who participated in the events, were also gone. Nonetheless, it retained its traditional izakaya décor with its counter seating alongside some regular tables. The staff were all new but still very courteous and brought the menu and water right away. New items were added but the core dishes remained the same. For this visit, we ordered our regular items and they arrived in 10 minutes: Eboshi Mini Trio with Shio Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza: The fried rice was still top notch, with slightly firm texture, not too oily, and pleasantly seasoned. The Shio Ramen with its clear broth was nicely savory. The thin noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chashu pieces were tender. To complement the set, the gyozas with their delicate wraps had nicely burnt bottoms, and flavorful fillings. Champon Ramen: A complex ramen with an assortment of meat, veggies and seafood. There were sliced pork pieces, shrimps, squids, cabbage, onions, snow peas and many more. The clear broth was quite savory and enriched by oil from sauteed ingredients. The noodles had a very nice texture and were a tad al dente. We were amazed that after all these years, the restaurant retained its original taste and flavor. We found out the reason why while exiting the restaurant: The young cook from two decades ago is now running the open kitchen as head chef. Great food and still reasonable prices. It was totally worth revisiting.

It's a Japanese steakhouse specializing in Wagyu but they have plenty of other options as well. We ended up getting the ribeye (16oz) which was cooked to perfection. For sides, we also ordered the lobster mac n cheese (8/10), roasted wild mushroom (9.5/10) and not pictured is the smooth mashed potatoes (9.5/10). Everything was great, we went for my birthday and they took a polaroid picture of us! The restaurant wasn't busy while we dined in on a Tuesday night so it was quiet, so maybe weekends might be more crowded. I do not mind spending $750 for a meal but between the horrible service and the inability for the manager to do the right thing my the evening unenjoyable and I would recommend everyone stay as far away as possible. i thing my biggest issue is that the manager acknowledged the lobster may be spoiled but still left it on the bill. if you see all my previous reviews i usually never go negative but this place is horrible.

We walked in right on time for our reservation (because we're adults who respect the space-time continuum) and were ushered into a booth with "privatey" curtains. I'm not saying they'd hide you from the FBI, but they certainly provided enough cover for us to giggle and navigate stupidly through the menu. You can also order directly to a friendly human too. The atmosphere is colorful, lively, unstuffy, and private enough to enjoy good convo but not awko quiet. You order everything via an iPad, which is dangerous because when pictures of gyoza are staring you in the face, your impulse control vanishes. We ordered "a little bit of everything," which is code for "the table was structurally compromised by the weight of our dinner." * The Highlights: The pickled cucumbers (crisp enough to hear in the next county), the pork bowl, and sushi that actually tasted like it came from the ocean. The Fluids: Cold Asahi and Lemon Chu-His. Highly recommended if you enjoy being happy. The Verdict This spot is a unicorn--it works for kids, first dates, or "290th dates" where you both just want to stare at an iPad and eat kimchi in a tent. The Heartbreak They have a "10-Second Hit It" game at the front door where you can win a free meal. We were this close. We didn't win, but we're definitely going back to seek revenge.
