This place has gone down, down, downhill. Once our favorite sandwich shop, best Dutch crunch, we would drive an hour. Went today and plenty of parking, no one out the door or a customer in sight. This is Friday at noon. Ordered sandwiches in advance. Big mistake. Now sandwiches are half the portions they were, bread hard. This was my first time trying Roma Deli and I was impressed! We ordered a boatload of sandwiches for a team lunch and everyone enjoyed their choices! I went with the New York which is essentially an Italian sandwich with mortadella, coppa ham, and salami. I opted for all the fixins' and boy did it hit the spot! I particularly liked that it wasn't too saucy. I love Little Luca but sometimes that is just a big sog fest whereas this one is all about enjoying the layers of the sandwich in all it's glory! The difference between the regular and large is negligible in price so definitely opt for large and get yourself two meals! The one con I have is for the vegetarian in our group. There wasn't any vegetarian option aside from avocado which in this day and age needs an upgrade. I don't think it needs to get too fancy with the options but you can definitely offer more than avocado, cheese, and pesto sauce too. Luckily our vegetarian didn't seem to mind. Would I come back? I stopped by for lunch and was greeted by the guy working at the register. He was very friendly and asked if I needed a minute to look over the minute before ordering. Luckily I checked out the menu prior to coming so I knew what I wanted to get. I did appreciate him asking if I needed extra time because I know if I ordered at other busy sandwich shops they probably wouldn't be a patient. I ordered a large chicken breast on dutch without mayo ($9.45+ tax = $10.39 prior to tip). The sandwich comes with lettuce, onion, tomato, mustard, pickles, mayo, and homemade garlic sauce. They asked if I wanted it toasted which of course I opted for it. It wouldn't be dutch crunch without the actual crunch of toasted bread. The ingredients were definitely very fresh. I appreciated how the lettuce, onion, and tomato had a fresh crisp to it where you can tell it has not been sitting there the whole day. The bread was crunchy from being toasted. I did wish the top of the dutch was more crispy though.The garlic sauce was very strong which is a plus if you love garlic. Definitely get some breath mints for after! From a portion to price point, it was definitely worth it! Add on the friendly and quick service, and I'll definitely be back! read more

Had my first Roma sandwich in 1985. My go to sandwich then was usually tuna salad on a sourdough. Back then Roma was an Italian family owned business. The place was lively and bustling with great energy. Haven't been there in many years due to travel and other commitments. I understand ownership has changed at least one or more times since then and is now owned by a Korean family. The place now is dead, no life. Dark and dingy in the back, with only two people in the shop making sandwiches. The place is depressing. Racks of who knows what line the aisleways giving the place a sense of nothing but clutter. Had a "tuna salad" sandwich on a dutch crunch. Sourdough rolls these days in the SF Bay area are all over the map, nothing like what they used to be years ago. I mean Molinari's in North Beach no longer offers a sourdough roll, yep. The sandwich I ordered was wretched, just pieces of plain white tuna meat from a can with mineral water. I mean no celery no mayonaise, two absolute essential ingredients to turn tuna into "tuna salad." These people are absolute idiots and I'm no chef, just an ardent amateur cook who's been making "tuna salad" most of my life. I mean tuna salad, c'mon what does it take. All in all a very very depressing experience. Go to Little Lucca instead, you get a much bigger bang for your buck. RIP ROMA, I will never be back. read more

WOW!! I'm blown away with how good these sandwiches are!! My friend took me here after picking me up from the Mean Girls musical. It was such a nice place! Right when you walk in, there's a wall full of different potato chips!! And a good variety of sodas and drinks. So cool. The space is nice and open, with seating on the other side of the counters. I ordered the turkey supreme large sandwich. It looks smaller in the picture, but they're comparable to Little Lucca sandwiches. I was struggling to finish my half, but I powered through because it was so yummy. The sandwich was loaded up with so much meat and veggies. Surprisingly, it held it shape very well and I didn't lose much filling as I was eating. I only had a few pieces of the lettuce fall out! My friend got the New York sandwich. His sandwich looked like it was twice the size as mine. He finished it in like 10 mins while I barely finished my half The owners are really nice too!! They made me feel like I was family stopping by. We stopped by 15 mins before they closed but they didn't rush us to order and finish eating. I don't normally find things review worthy but holy hell this place is a gem. Today I was feeling hungrier than normal probably from the dubious amounts of whiskey I had over the weekend. I phoned in and ordered a large meatball, with provolone, onion and garlic spread on a soft toasted roll. It was ready in about 10-15 mins. Upon grabbing my order and a bag of chips and potato salad they let me know they put extra napkins in. While messy, that was legit the best meatball sandwich I've ever consumed. I'm Italian on my good side and I've had quite a few from many places over the years but once I pulled that wrapper I knew I was in for a treat The staff is super friendly as always and always calls me by my name, everything on their menu is great but holy hell, give the meatball a try. This use to be one of my favorite sandwich shops but, that has changed. The owner was more concerned with arguing with me and being right than realizing he made a mistake. I was trying to be nice with him but, he then proceeded to yell at me. I travel all the way from San Francisco to get subs but, never again! They told me 25 minutes for my order and it took over an hour. Plus the place looks super run down. Get it together or you will keep losing customers. My wife and I ordered a regular & large Avocado Veggie sandwich and Salt & Vinegar chips from Roma Deli via Uber. What we actually received was a regular & large Roast Beef sandwiches with no avocado. My wife is pescatarian and I'm vegetarian, so naturally we were incredibly concerned. We tried Roma Deli for the first time recently. Pros: - The large size is quite large. I finished about 75% and had to stop eating and I was fairly hungry when I first started. - Their pastrami sandwich is a killerrrrr sandwhich. That garlic pesto is amazingggg. SO garlicky. It should go on every sandwich. The reuben was just okay, partly because I'm not a fan of the mustard sauce and didn't know there was a mustard sauce until I bit into the sandwich. Cons: - Somehow had to wait 30 minutes to get our 2 sandwiches after we placed our order. Not exaggerating. We watched as SEVERAL people behind us in line got their orders first. Not cool. They totally forgot our orders and did not acknowledge that. - Though I love dutch crutch bread and ALWAYS get dutch crutch if it's available at any deli shop, I felt like the dutch crutch here was on the stale and hard side. Not sure if we caught some old bread or they toasted it too long but it really cut our mouths while eating the sandwich and the bread just tasted hard.... Not sure if we just caught them on a bad day. I'm a bit sad, truly, with our experience. Not sure that we will return when there are so many other good delis around. read more

I have tried MANY different delicatessens in the Bay area and this by far is one of the best. Much better than Little Luccas or Mr.pickles to just name a few. The bread is outstanding the sourdough roll isn't to hard where u feel like you're gonna break your teeth and the Dutch Crunch is also delicious! They put just the right amount of meat and toppings. Roma deli is good but I feel like it's not what it used to be. I love the nostalgic interior but it could seriously use some freshening up. The menu seems more limited than what I remembered and they were all out of Dutch crunch by 2pm on a Sunday. I split the turkey supreme with my mom and it was pretty good. My dad had the hot pastrami and enjoyed it. I'm not sure if the potato salad is made in house but that was the star for me. Tried their Turkey Supreme this past weekend. I believe it will be my Go-To sandwich. There is something so heavenly about lean turkey, melted Jack cheese, avocado, garlic sauce on a toasted sour roll. Oh, Snapple!! I ate it like I was in a speed-eating contest. It was shameful, but thankfully I was at home. Everything about this sandwich is great--simple and wonderful. Roma Deli popped up in my yelp app, and the pictures & rating looked fantastic. I couldn't decide what to order and their menu wasn't super clear, so I ordered the only special I saw that they had a New York Special, large size. The large size was huge!!!! Half of a sandwich was more than enough to keep me full, and was chock full of veggies, cheese, and everything else. The meat was super generous and way more than at other sandwich places I have tried. I got it toasted, and the bread was so crispy and delicious. They have a huge selection of chips to choose from, including Zapps from Louisiana, Ruffles, etc. The ladies who work here are super nice and double check to make sure they have your order exactly as you want it.
