Day dates with my bride have become quite a "thing" over the years, and we're always looking for new places to try. On a list of recommended breakfast spots I received earlier this week there were a few places we haven't tried, so the first stop on today's Saturday adventure was Ronnie's Restaurant. When we pulled up, the parking lot was pretty full, but on walking in we were seated immediately-- quite a feat for 10:20 on a Saturday morning! The dining room was quite large with windows all around and lots of seating. It was very clean-- bright and airy, with a slight sense of nostalgia about it. It took a couple of minutes before our server came over, and a few more before we had coffee, but the place was BUSY, so we didn't mind. When the coffee came she took our orders and by the time our food arrived we'd been in the building a total of 20 minutes... again-- not bad for a Saturday morning rush. As for the food, the thing about which I was most excited, that being the biscuits and gravy, was fine... nothing monumental, but my over medium eggs were perfect and the bacon was amazing. It had a smoky essence that made it feel special. The meal also came with what I presume is their standard breakfast potatoes; they were SPECTACULAR. My wife's waffle was crisp on the surface and tender inside. She was very pleased. And the cinnamon roll... OH. MY. STARS. It was of generous size with a rich cinnamon ribbon and a veritable ocean of cream cheese frosting. My wife and I shared it and we both HIGHLY recommend it! The clientele ranged from the most senior of adults to families with young children... a really great testimony to the family-friendly nature of the restaurant. This is a neighborhood favorite of me and my husband's. We love coming here for a quick brunch on the weekends. Our servers have always been very kind and attentive. They're always quick to greet you and our order has never taken longer than 20 minutes. One time our waitress recommended getting the chicken fried chicken and eggs and I will never get anything else. It's hands down the best chicken fried chicken I've ever had at a brunch place. It's hand breaded and deep fried. It's always fresh and tastes like it's battered THAT day. My husband gets the steak and eggs often and LOVES it. Nothing we have tried here is bad. We have never spent more than $35 dollars here with a 20% tip and I always have enough for two meals. Very reasonably priced. I cannot recommend this place enough. Ordered take out from the restaurant before but finally decided to visit in person and it was totally worth it. Our server, Patty was so thoughtful and welcoming throughout the whole meal. In addition the food delicious for a fantastic price. I'm rarely thrilled with breakfast diners but everything we had was delicious. We loved the chicken fried steak and gravy was ON POINT. Booths and tables available with baseball decor inside and family photos line the entry way. Waitresses are polite and conversational; and service is quick. Ronnie's does more than breakfast, but they definitely do breakfast right! Their biscuits are big and super-fluffy, and when smothered in their sawmill gravy, they're even better. The breakfast sandwich is an unwieldy handful of yum - scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, and two kinds of cheese on a floppy and flaky croissant. Yum-O! If you have kids that can handle a hot mug, then the cocoa with whipped cream and chocolate syrup is as tasty on the tummy as it is on the eyes. A definite return visit candidate! UPDATED: A snow day from school (don't even start with how crazy canceling things has gotten recently - lawyers ruin everything) brought me back here with my wannabe foodie daughter (the coolest teenager ever) for a 1:1 breakfast. Hence, my aforementioned return visit :) The cinnamon French toast is an absolute home run. For reference purposes, it is one of their homemade cinnamon rolls, sliced, battered, and hits the griddle before making its way to your plate. We really WANT to like and support this restaurant. We've been there as a couple, individually with other friends, and as a group. 90% of the time, the service has been TERRIBLE! And of course, what memory do you walk away with as a patron? THE TERRIBLE SERVICE. Ronnie's either needs to hire more help, or train the help they've got. Well Ronnie your kitchen earned this one. Got here about 1130 am waited 10 min for a table Pretty normal for Sunday after church. We were waited on quickly got our drinks and place our order. Our cinnamon roll came out in just a few minutes our breakfast did not after waiting over one hour our server said he did Not know what the hold up on the kitchen was but he would check again. Finally at 1250 pm I placed a gratuity on the table for our waiter walked to the check stand sWhen asked for my ticket I told the cashier I did not have one and that we had a coke and a cinnamon roll And never got our breakfast I handed him a 10 dollar bill and told him to figure it out. I will not say never again but we are regular there and at best it will be a long time. I do not mind a delay but either keep me informed or tell me about it up front. The decor in this place is very down home Americana. The hostess was very nice, and even though they were busy, we were sat right away. The menu has scripture in it, which we love. Our server was Patti, and she was extremely friendly. She took what we wanted and made suggestions for us to get the best deals. She was attentive but not overbearing. we love coming here!! our first time coming here was just over 1yr ago. my first order was their california chicken sandwich, and my husband ordered "pick of the litter". their portions are a good size, we never walk away hungry. we also love their pancakes, french toasts, fruity crepes, fried chicken salad, fried chicken and mashed potato.. along with fruits and cottage cheese, they serve curly fries a side to the sandwiches you order. we don't love all coffees that are served at most breakfast/lunch spots, but Ronnie's coffee is good. service is great, most of the weekend helpers look like jr high or high schoolers. they usually pack out quickly on the weekends, but they do their best to get customers seated within about 15-30min. they don't take reservations, so just make sure you have a few people at your party present to reserve a table on the spot. they close at 2:00, so please don't be that person that comes just 30min until closing time! the single (although significant) downrating is their restrooms. it is usually disgusting. if you need to potty, apparently, so did everyone else. their pipes could not handle it, and their staff could not keep to pace as well. you are forewarned, so plan ahead! you will enjoy the remainder of your time with them :) oh, and check out with your receipt on your way out! read more

My breakfast buddy and I decided to break our streak of consecutive visits to the joint around the corner to give Ronnie's a try. The only regret we had from the entire visit was not having given it a shot much sooner! All the basics were there: clean, spacious dining room, excellent service, huge menu with all the basics and tons of beyond-the-basics, and last but not least: fantastic prices. Like, so fantastic, you kind of wonder how they're staying in business! Our waitress deserves a particular call out for her patience, assistance with walking us through the aforementioned large menu as first timers, and her infinite patience with our questions about all things breakfast. Even after my buddy mentioned not being a "cinnamon roll guy", she somehow charmingly talked us in to sharing one. To this moment, nearly one week later, I cannot get that cinnamon roll out of my mind. Large, warm, soft, doughy, and chock-full of cinnamon and icing, the thing was a masterpiece. I enjoyed a scramble, and my buddy a breakfast sandwich. Both were well-executed. I'd like to give a shout out to the biscuit, which, again, was large, warm, soft and disappeared in record time.
