After some deliberation, picked The Shack for our late breakfast pre-holiday gathering. I haven't been quite a while as I felt like the menu was pretty overwhelming. I shared the Meaty Mary with my boyfriend, not really sure what made this very acidic & too peppery. We ate the toppings but couldn't finish the drink. I had the Merica French toast & a side of Biscuit & Gravy. The fr toast was delicious from the sweet fresh strawberries & blueberries and the mascarpone glaze. The Shack is definitely in my top three brunch restaurants. The menu has a lot to offer and their portions are very generous. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was outstanding. Very large and full of flavor. I shared a side of biscuits and gravy and had more than enough to eat. I ordered one of their two bloody Mary options, this one had cucumber vodka, and I didn't care for it as much as the regular spicy bloody Mary that they have. One of the main reasons I like this place is they have a good variety of food many of which are things that I would always order. Some of the breakfast places I've been to there's only three or four things I would even get off the menu. They offer boozy drinks and specialized shakes, it's a place that will definitely return to. Stopped in here with friends after a 5k. The place was fairly busy, but we were seated quickly. Service was prompt and friendly. I ordered pork belly and chorizo breakfast tacos. The tacos were great, but the hash browns were hash burnt. My friend had asked for his hash browns to be extra crispy and I must have gotten his as the ones on his plate were just as I like them. I was a bit disappointed because the whole dish was extremely greasy. I could not even find the cheddar cheese grits in the skillet. There was very little , little sized shrimps. It was heavy on the peppers and pork belly which maybe the reason it was overly greasy. Even the base hash browns were greasy. I would not recommend this dish. Shack could be sooooo much better, and given that they have great spot in a great location, one would hope that they would improve. The space is amazing, from the living graffiti walls to the decor to the higher ceilings. There is plenty of seating, including the bar area, and even a wait time is not uncomfortable. Even with a great space, the service staff seems to be disorganized in the front part of the house. I can't put my finger on it, but it is almost as if they struggle to have a host function or even a host. But you're here for the food, and the menu is really strong. Breakfast options galore, some decent lunch options, and a strong bar menu makes for a great lineup. But the food does not stand out and it doesn't seem to have been made to my order. That's fine if I'm ordering at a fast food drive-thru; if I'm seated, then I want my order to be made correctly and served in a timely fashion. And I am FAR from *that* guy, generally not one to raise a fuss. Maybe I should, but I won't. Just know that I liked Shack once upon a time and it seems to have slipped. SW JoCo has plenty of customers with free time and healthy wallets, so my three stars is more my way of being generous and hopeful than a true reflection of my experience. read more

First time customer while visiting the area and I loved this place. The atmosphere is very cute and interesting. The menu is soooooo funny and interesting with great names for all the items. There is a great variety from which to choose. I ordered the sandwich that had a pretzel bun, two eggs cooked your way, bacon, avocado, salsa, cheese and garlic aioli. I can't remember the name but it was a funny one. We didn't wait long and our food arrived. Mine wasn't very hot, but the flavors together were very good. I really liked my choice. Service was ok. Tasty breakfast and I loved all of the options. In fact, it was pretty impossible to decide on just one thing!! I landed on the protein bowl, packed with quinoa, eggs, avocado and smoked turkey. We had forgotten just how good Shack is for breakfast. Our daughter was in town from Chicago and wanted to have a great breakfast. I had the breakfast tacos (pork belly) and they were amazing. My wife had the Nashville Hot Chicken and loved it. Our daughter ordered the biscuits and gravy and said they were fantastic. Our waitress (Mercedes) was very busy, but she was attentive and checked in on us frequently to make sure our breakfast was to our liking. We did enjoy reading all the "Crayon Graffiti" on the walls. We joined the waitlist and were quoted 30-45 minutes. We arrived with time still left in that window, yet were told we had already been removed from the list. Although the host said they would add us back and seat us as soon as possible, they never actually put us back on the list--resulting in a significantly longer wait than originally quoted (I have a screenshot of the timing for reference). Unfortunately, the experience didn't improve once we were seated. My friend ordered a black coffee, and when she poured it into her cup, she noticed it was dirty with visible chunks inside. We had to ask for a new cup, which then took an additional 10 minutes to receive. The creamer provided was also spoiled. We also weren't given silverware until we asked. Overall, this location felt very disorganized, with noticeable lapses in both service and basic cleanliness. Based on this experience, I would not return. read more

My daughter and I tried out this restaurant for the first time. It was very busy and we waited in our car for about 20 minutes and then they text us that our table was ready. We were given a menu quickly upon being seated but the service went downhill from there. The waiter was unfriendly from the beginning and he asked what we would like to drink and we said water and he seemed disapproving. He brought the carafe and glasses and poured some water into the glasses and didn't speak and just walked away. It took awhile for him to come back and take our order and he was rude in his attitude upon taking it. We were bewildered as we were very friendly to him upon being seated. I asked for extra butter and syrup when ordering and when the meals came it did not have the extras requested. My daughter had eggs, sausage, and biscuits and gravy. I had eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, links, and the gluten-free blueberry pancake. My meal was barely warm and the pancake was pretty much cold. My daughters meal was tepid and temperature and the biscuit and gravy was completely cold and she asked for a new biscuit and gravy dish. He had an attitude about replacing that and an attitude when I asked for the extra butter and syrup. The eggs and the hashbrowns were fine, both of us did not care for the sausage. The sausage was cooked fine and was moist, but it had a specific spice taste that we did not care for. She said the biscuits and gravy were good after she received the new ones. And my gluten-free pancake was good even though it was cold. He continued to be rude throughout all of the service, I have no idea why but we will not be back, considering the service was terrible. Went here last week with friends. They had various sandwiches which were good. I had the avocado toast. No go. The toast was just plain bread...and very soggy. The avocado was very sparse and already brown...on top were scrambled egg whites which were runny and very unappetizing. This I am sure contributed to the soggy bread. This may just an issue @ the fairly new location @ Lenexa. Went for Brunch late on a Sunday. Food - ok Service - ok Ambiance - shackish - ok Had the Notorious b&G (biscuits and gravy) with over medium eggs and sausage patties. Main reason for the avg rating is the Biscuits, they were kinda hard and w/o flavor unless you put the gravy on it. the Gravy was lacking in flavor (really needed some pepper) and not HOT ( I have a issue with things that are supposed to be HOT, need to be almost tongue burning HOT) Eggs were fine Sausage patty was avg and needed some kick/seasoning as well. Both the Coll.Blvd and the135th and Antioch locations haven't disappointed, so this may be a 1 off situation. read more

Super good food with a great gluten free menu. They use separate cooking spaces for items that needs to be gluten free. The GF pancakes are legit! I've had them more than once. This time I got the The King Lives. Too much banana for me but everyone else with me was all in and loved them. Four instead of five stars because it often has a bit of slow service. Great food, nothing to complain about, the Riding First Class... was a bigger portion than expected so it made for 2 meals & the liquid queso was surprisingly tasty with my omelet.
