I went for lunch and waited 15 minutes past my pickup time. I put extra cucumbers on the order online and they gave me less than the standard amount. See picture attached - not worth $18

Left - "The Original" & Right - Complimentary Chicken Broth

It was my first time here because I was visiting from out of town (SoCal). I ordered "to go" the ORIGINAL. When I got back to the hotel I was staying, I ate it in our dining area and the chicken was very dry. It's a good thing they had this sauce that went with it. It came with a complimentary chicken broth. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular. You can come try it for yourself and you be the judge. That's all I can say.

We got chicken spring rolls and three Hainan chicken rices - two '"riceless" and one "original". The chicken in the Hainan rice was definitely decent, of solid quality. Portion sizes were generous, which is always a plus. However, the rice was just okay, nothing special, and the chicken soup was pretty bland. We thought the '"riceless" option was the better deal. They load you up with extra broccoli to replace the rice, which is fantastic if you're looking for more fiber and vegetables. As for the chicken spring rolls, the chicken inside was overcooked and dry. Definitely a miss.

This review is specifically for takeout which we ordered off the Rooster & Rice website. We had the chicken spring roll with three hainan chicken rices, where two were "the riceless" and one was "the original" hainan chicken rice: the chicken was solid, rice was okay. Chicken soup was spot on, great flavors! Portions were solid as well. We do think the riceless is a much better value. chicken spring roll: this one was a bit of a let-down. The spring roll itself was kind of mis-shapen and the chicken was overcooked. I think overall, Rooster & Rice is not great but not terrible.

Clean restaurant with about ten tables for seating. You order at the counter then get a number, wait for them to call your number and then go get your food at the counter. Simple. It's healthy food, a lot of chicken and rice dishes. But the wowza here for me is their chicken burrito, which comes with an amazing ginger cilantro sauce that brings the flavor profile to a whole new dimension.

My second time at this Rooster & Rice location and it was as good as ever! I ordered The Original (breast and thigh with skin, fragrant chicken rice, cucumber, cilantro, KMG sauce, side of chicken broth). It was $15.95, around $18 with tax. The chicken is very juicy and tender. The rice is fluffy and flavourful and the sauce adds a much needed gingery kick! I also really appreciate the hot cup of broth. Service is extremely quick and there are 8 tables, making it a great spot to pick up a quick lunch or sit down and eat. Love!

Stopped in for a quick lunch and wasn't sure what to expect. There were a few people sitting in the eating area so thought let's try. Ordered the original chicken and it comes with poached chicken, rice, cucumber, savory sauce, and a side of chicken broth. Was definitely very tasty and the sauce and broth complimented the meal perfectly. Ambiance was clean with plenty of seating. Service was also very quick. If you are wondering whether to try it or not definitely check it out!

The chicken are mostly dry. Sauce is so so. Rice had little flavor as another review commented. I had better Hainan Chicken in Oregon.

Rooster & Rice is one of the original chicken rice chains in San Francisco. It's been years since I've visited one and its gotten quite pricey for what you get. I ordered "The Original" but opted for all thigh meat instead of a combination of thigh and breast. As I was aiming to have this meal for two meals, I opted for extra chicken and extra rice, bringing my total to $27. If you can ignore the fact that you're paying close to $30 for chicken and rice, the meal is quite good. The meat is tender, the sauce is good, and the rice is very flavorful without tasting greasy. The broth on the side is a nice way to round out the meal as well. This spot gets quite busy during the lunch rush so do yourself a favor and order online in advanced to streamline the pickup.

Wanted to try out the popcorn chicken and it was really yummy! Chicken was fresh and service was quick and seamless.

    Do they carry SANS beverage?

Are they open on weekends thanks?

    Yes

Is there an option to get the sauce without cilantro?

Yes, I believe cilantro is only a garnish they place on top of the chicken, which can easily be removed(if it tastes like dishwashing liquid)

They text you when your table is ready and got have about 5 minutes to get there. Right away I knew I wanted the Khao soi which I got with tofu. This was beyond delicious, but I wish they have more broth. I've had Khao soi before but it was a bit more broth which made the noodles less dry. Also I wish the tofu was cut into smaller cubes, the tofu wasn't very crispy which made it pretty bland and one dimensional. Other than that it was very good. The Thai tea was also good, not too sweet which was perfect. The duck breast curry had a similar taste to the Khao soi but the duck was one of the beast we had. Super moist and flavorful in the broth, definitely one of the best dishes of the night. Also the beef fried rice (Khao pad mun neur) was cooked well, my favorite was the flavor of the fried rice. Had a smoky wok flavor to it which made it addicting. The ambience was very nice my favorite was their music playlist. Was nostalgic and gave good vibes in the restaurant. Definitely a great experience and worth a try when in the city. I would come again for the duck curry and maybe the Khao soi with a different protein or ask the tofu to be extra crispy.

We ordered the same short rib beef fried rice but tried the curry chicken noodle soup this time which had a crispy fried ball of noodles topping a bowl of mild, spicy curry broth, soft noodles and chicken. It was very good. For the first time, we ordered their Chinese broccoli which was sliced into smaller pieces and surprisingly very good. We were full but decided to get the pandan kaya toast with large scoop of coconut ice cream to share since we've not ordered this in a long time. The chefs cooking that evening were doing a great job as the flavors were delicious.

Every bite and sip was delicious. We ordered family style and shared everything. The service was also fantastic, even though we got there late and didn't realize until the food was beginning to come out that it was last call, our server and all the other workers that came by were all so friendly and made us feel welcome. We ate quickly and boxed the rest so they could get home. What we ordered: Tom Kha soup - coconutty, creamy, a lil sour and a lil spice. Delicious. Fresh rolls - crisp and springy with lots of greens and tofu and a good peanut sauce to dip. Crispy pork belly sweet basil - the CRISP and flavor of this pork belly was to die for. Chicken larb - this was my favorite dish of the night. Heavy basil/herbs, just a little kick from the chilies, full on flavor explosion. I will be thinking of this dish for a long time haha. Beef Pad See Ew - chewy in the most delicious and favor packed way. Love pad see ew and this one was great! Pad cha scallop - Came out sizzling on a cast iron! This dish was fun and the scallops while small, were fresh and had lots of flavor. And finally, for dessert we ordered the black rice durian. It was all three of us' first time trying Durian and we loved it! Creamy and a little funky but the black rice and sauce emphasized its natural sweetness. Thank you to everyone at Saap Ver for adding to my besties birthday happiness! Can't wait to come back.

I think the pad thai and fried rice were a bit light in flavor, but the curry and crispy pork were really yummy! The duck curry kinda took me by surprise because of the lychee haha I wish the portions were bigger, but great taste.

The interior is well decorated with Thai culture and with the darker tones of the design, it makes the restaurant feel quite fancy. 4.5/5 - Crispy Pork (Moo Krop) Fried Rice - Very savory fried rice dish. Spiced well and very filling. We didn't expect the pork to be cut so large and mixed into the rice, but it was very tender and easy to still eat. We would've expected the pork to be sliced maybe in half or fourths to make the dish feel like a "pork fried rice" than a fried rice + pork mix, but it still worked well and if you love pork, this will definitely be your fix! 5/5 - Pad Thai - We thought the restaurant nailed this classic noodle dish. Filling portions and did not overcook their noodles. You can taste each component of the dish, which speaks to everything not being under or overcooked. We ordered nuts on the side but you would be quite satisfied ordering this if you like pad thai! 4.5/5 - Pad Gra Prow - Appropriate veggie to beef proportion and very flavorful. Minced well and great to complement with your carb dishes (noodle or rice). We thought the dish was slightly oily but it feels well absorbed when eaten with our pad thai.
