Wow, wow, wow. I'm a fan, my wife is a fan, my 3 year old daughter is a fan. Rooster and Co. is located in downtown Newington and there is plenty of parking. Easy to access, easy parking = always a good start. The menu is chicken-heavy for lunch and dinner, as you would guess from the name. The centerpiece is a variety of rotisserie chicken options including half and whole chickens. They also have a rotisserie combo that includes crackl'n, confit and pate. If you're not a chicken fan, there are a number of other options. The rotisserie chicken is very good - moist, flavorful, just great. For sides, I'm partial to the brussels sprouts. Brunch is excellent as well. The delicious chicken and waffles have a mustardy syrup that adds a sweet and tangy element. The stuffed French toast makes me reconsider my usual stance of not ordering sweet breakfasts. On top of all of that, the wait staff is super friendly and polite. After hearing so many good things about this place I finally got around to trying it! It lived up to the hype! It may look like just a chicken place but the chicken here is amazing! They brine it for 8 hours and then roast them. The end product is very tasty. Plus I love that the chicken is locally sourced, organic and free range. The chicken comes with a choice of sauces- Fire Lemon, Walnut Herb, Not So Hot, 'Tandori' Yogurt and Cola BBQ, I got the tandori and it was a perfect pairing. They do have other things besides chicken. My fiance got the Cavatelling pasta dish which is house made Italian sausage, broccoli rabe, tomato butter and Parmesan crumble. it was delicious! Went for an early dinner with my daughter around 4:30 on a Monday. Waitress was excellent, my daughter wasn't a fan of the ginger ale so the waitress replaced with birch beer which she loved. My friend Sally was nice enough to bring me out for a bite on my birthday. (Turning 32 doesn't have the same allure as 30 so I was going to chill at home). I have been wanting to try this place for months as I heard the food is phenomenal. And the rumors were true!! Tuesday's are half off a bottle of wine (we should've gotten two). We ordered a red blend which had the perfect amount of sweetness and sat well on the tongue. I ordered the kale salad for $8. It was topped with beets, goat cheese, pumpkin seeds, and balsamic dressing. It was delicious and worth the money. You can add meat for $6 more but I didn't think it was needed. Sally and I shared hoisin duck fat wings and figs. For a non-fig lover, they went down! But let's talk about the wings, crispy, flavorful, no need to dip in blue cheese, these things are the real deal. Let me find out they have a wing special, and I'll be the first in like. Stopped in on a Saturday evening while visiting Hartford. We made a reservation but didn't need one. For a really comfortable Saturday evening, it was surprisingly not crowded; there were only 2 other groups outside. Felt safe they were adhering to COVID guidelines. Staff were masked properly. We also saw them running food out to cars waiting for curbside takeout. As of August 22, they were offering both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside, but there were a couple of groups dining inside too. There were ~12 tables outside. We got the calamari to start, and we split the half rotisserie chicken with pineapple jerk sauce and sides of polenta and buffalo cauliflower. Everything was delicious! Our only complaint is that our server was devoid of personality. He was very mechanical in his service, but not going to ding the rating because he still performed his responsibilities. read more

Co worker and I stopped in for dinner yesterday evening while on business on the area. We decided on this restaurant after reading great reviews and seeing appetizing entrees. We stopped in about 7:30 pm and it wasn't crowded at all. Started off with 2 starters, meatball with gravy and a bread dish topped with mozarella. They were both full of flavot and delicious. The gravy was excellent. The meatballs were a bit tough and not as light as I'd prefer but still good. I ended up ordering the veal with monkey bread. My co worker ordered their steak cooked to medium on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes. Presentation was fantastic, taste was great, and portion size was more than reasonable. Went for brunch on a Sunday around 2pm and the place wasn't packed so we got a table right away. We had the brûlée pink grapefruit (surprisingly gooood), the peanut butter toast (delish!!!), the biscuits and gravy (amazing! Then my waitress comes, nicely takes my order, and leaves. We don't hear from her until like a solid 30 minutes, my glass of water has been empty for some time and food still hasn't arrived. She finally came and said "your food will be ready in 1 minute" haha okay it came like 3 minutes later she lied to us. I was furious. I'm just kidding lol but yeah the food arrived and let's go from there. I'll just say my waitress was absent when I needed her and wasn't within reach or sight for a solid 15-20 minutes. I ordered a Lump Crab Risoto and it had zucchini and like some little bits of ham I believe. It was good at first and the flavor combination was brilliant. Then after eating so much I just wanna throw up. Alright fine I didn't have to eat all of it but if I came there super hungry which I did I obviously am gonna wanna finish my food and well I felt gross after. Never thought I'd ever get too much of something, can't complain but still. As for my parents they ordered like a rotisserie chicken leg and it's was good but for $18 I'm basically paying for the liver pate that it came with as the chicken is just as good as a grocery store rotisserie chicken but this one's fresh. Delicious? Hell yeah it was. Worth $18? Nope I'd rather buy a whole rotisserie chicken for like 6$ at Sam's Club. Oh and we also ordered fried calamari and it was nothing special but it was good, not sure if it was worth $10.95 but it was good. I know other seafood restaurants where $10.95 will give you twice as much calamari as what I got here. Alright am I being harsh? Maybe, I mean the prices aren't that bad and this place is "farm to table" I can see and taste the freshness of the ingredients but I feel I got the worst of it as I came here hungry, but not willing to spend too much money. You come here to pay for the organic and freshness which is fine but how can I enjoy it when I'm too focused trying to find my waitress and knowing I could get an entire chicken for 1/3 the price. Today was my first visit to Rooster Co for brunch, and it was great! We had the poutine to start; it was good, although I was hoping for hot, gooey cheese curds, but they were a little cold and fell a little flat. Otherwise, it was a good starter. I got the Lebowski to drink which tastes like a white Russian - excellent! - and the Croque Madame for my meal. (If your brunch drink is a Bloody Mary, they were only 4 bucks here!). My sandwich was huge. I took half of it home to have for dinner. It was a little different from a typical Croque Madame with turkey instead of ham and a yummy grainy mustard. But, it also had the crusty cheese and perfect fried egg on top which are staples of a good Croque Madame. Paired with solid homefries. Good value. The restaurant itself is a nice, large space. They have a bar area as well as plenty of booths and tables for seating. They also have a few tables outside. The other reviews rave about the rotisserie chicken, so I definitely want to go back and try that. They also have a 4-6 Happy Hour daily - something else I'd like to check out. I am so happy I tried Rooster Co. today. I'm all about a no frills meal and today I finally felt like venturing out for some rotisserie chicken and I was not disappointed and I will be returning, many many times. Upon arrival we were seated in a large open dining room. To start, ordered the Philly "sangwiches" which were phenomenal. Tender steak topped with caramelized onions and homemade cheese wiz on Parker rolls. 3 sliders to an order. I could have just had an unlimited supply of these but I did decide to try some other things. The half rotisserie chicken was super moist and flavorful. With the chicken there are several dipping sauce options and my favorite was the hoisin. Other options include not so hot, cola bbq and a yogurt option. The chicken comes with Parker rolls and I loveeee Parker rolls. Chicken and bread. So simple but so delicious! I also tried the duck fat wings which weren't the best wings I've had but certainly not bad. I probably would forgo these and double my order of steak sandwiches next time. Finally, for dessert I had to try the apple cobbler. If you like apples topped with a sugar, flour crumble then this is definitely for you. It comes served hot in a cast iron pan topped with Mortensen's vanilla ice cream. It was very tasty, but I'm a crust girl so I did miss that. Overall, this is probably my favorite restaurant that I've been to lately. Nothing was too heavy, everything was fresh and delicious and didn't leave me feeling disgusting afterward even though I finished with dessert. I will be back very very soon! read more

The truffle fries were okay did not taste the truffle that much in it though they were just ordinary. Brussel sprouts were way too sweet. It states that they are maple glazed though so I should have known. Usually it's just a hint of maple. The brussel sprouts were not crispy at all since there was too much liquid from the sauce that they put on it. Wings were terrible as the flavors sound, we got the creamy Parmesan flavor and cola bbq. They weren't crispy, can't even tell that they are duck fat wings because of the sauce on the wings. I would not come here again unless I was really craving a rotisserie chicken since they are known for that. May not be a fair review since I did not try it. read more

Updating my previous review of 4 stars. My main criticism of Rooster Co. was that their menu, outside of their rotisserie chicken, was a bit limited. I've since been back a few times and have tried the Oxtail Risotto and just last night had the Pork Tenderloin with pork belly and corn, an excellent summer seasonal dish that they're currently offering. The menu is no longer an issue in my eyes. There are plenty of items for a wide range of tastes, and it constantly evolving with the seasons. Love this place. Deserves every single bit of these 5 stars. I've been for dinner and brunch, and both were really well done. The space is really big and open, which is such a great alternative to some of the more cramped, high-end West Hartford spaces (and free parking). Both times, I've had some iteration of the chicken- once the half chicken with Cola BBQ sauce, and for brunch, the chicken and waffles. Their chicken is such a stand out, which you can probably tell from the reviews below. In a world of small plates and bizarre combos, sometimes it feels good to have simple roast chicken, veggies, and a fresh made roll (shoutout HBC!) for dinner. As Sara said below, the chicken and waffles is (are?) frickin amazing. And the Bloody Marys are $4. FOUR!! I went there tonight and I ordered a burger cooked medium rare, and my girlfriend ordered a kale salad and liver pate. My burger was all out delicious and perfectly cooked despite the whole restaurant being full to capacity. Rarely do you actually get a medium rare burger in any restaurant - and this one tasted great. Their French fries are down right awesome. Thin and crispy - every.single.fry. Their beer and wine prices are very decent and they have a wide selection. Their staff is very attentive and are doing a great job. First restaurant I have been to in awhile with this kind of service. Liver pate is not really my cup of tea- however my girlfriend enjoyed it and said it was the best she has ever had. Our first time here. My coffee was made perfectly with Kahula and Baileys. We enjoyed the goat cheese toast. The creaminess of the cheese with the tart strawberry and the balsamic was divine. They continued to walk by us without looking in our direction for 15min. There were women standing around the host station chatting instead of helping out. Yelp does it again! Traveling home to Long Island from Massachusetts and we needed someplace to stop for dinner. Yelp turns up Rooster Co. Sounded good, so we figured we'd give it a try. We sure are glad we did! The restaurant itself is very spacious and quietly decorated with a very nice looking bar that is separated enough from the main dining area that you don't feel like you're eating in a bar. The waiter was extremely friendly and helpful, making us feel like we've been there a dozen times very quickly. Onto the food. The rotisserie chicken was fantastic! Perfectly cooked through with juicy white and dark meat. The walnut herb sauce served with the chicken was an excellent accompaniment. My daughter had the Green Goddess salad and loved it. At our waiter's suggestion, we also had the beet salad. Another excellent choice! Rooster Co's website says that their rotisserie chicken will always be at the core of their menu. If that's true, Rooster Co will have a long and successful career of pleasing their guests. I look forward to stopping there again when traveling through the area. read more

Decided to try this place while in Farmington for work. It did not disappoint. You can tell the space is new...it's very fresh and clean. I sat in the bar and had a hard time deciding what to order. The menu had lots of tasty looking options. I started with the green goodness salad. It was romaine with cornbread crumbles and fried jalapeños. The jalapeños really made this salad. It was great. For my entree I went with the curried chicken pot pie. The flavors were great, warm and savory. The chicken in the pie was fantastic, so tender and juicy. I would definitely have given 5 stars, but the middle of the pastry was undercooked. Kind of raw and doughy. The edges of the pastry were nice and crisp though?! Overall it was great.
