I hadn't been to Rooster Co for a few years and went last week. Just as good as I remember! The food is great and I love the cozy fireplace.

Great place. Great food, chosen locally and prepared to perfection with a flair for including something unique. Always friendly & efficient service. Ambient noise can be a bit loud, but that also depends on the day and time you go. Price is well within reach of families with youngsters, so don't fear bringing them along. A great addition to downtown Newington! I have been here several times and each time I am constantly impressed with the quality of not only the star of the show (their oh so moist and delicious chicken) but their sides and tap list. My most recent visit was with a girlfriend who joined me for dinner. We arrived at 6pm on a Wednesday and I was pleasantly surprised at how busy the restaurant was. Out waitress was a gem - giving us enough space to decide what to get but still offering recommendations and answering our questions. We were both going to get the salad but then we thought - we always get salad - why not order what the restaurant is known for! So we each ordered 1/2 chicken and a couple of sides to share. We were concerned that we would not be able to finish the 1/2 chicken but our waitress told us that the birds were on the smaller side as their were free range/organic. She was right as by the time we left - no doggie bags were taken with either of us. I do wish their was a chicken and sides combination like they have had at lunch BUT ordering the sides ended up being a great idea as we were each able to try a bit of this and a bit of that. My personal favorite - the brussel sprouts with pepitas, spicy honey (not really), and I think they were craisins. I was polite, however, and shared. The cornbread with apricot butter was a nice touch and came in a cute cast iron skillet that was perfect for the 2 of us. We also got the mac n cheese - my friend was a fan but it was a bit too heavy for me. It's not that I thought it was bad - just that the sprouts were so much better! Great place for couples, families or friends looking to grab a meal. Service and food was incredible!!! Me and my boyfriend both got a breakfast burger and an omelette, very nicely seasoned and delicious. Each bite I was more and more impressed with this place! We went for Sunday brunch. I was really excited to try the avocado toast as well as the salmon toast. I actually chuckled when they came out to the table. I've never seen a thinner smear of avocado on "avocado toast" in my life. It was a joke. Then, the salmon toast didn't have that lovely thin-sliced smoked salmon that I was expecting. No, it had chopped up bits of smoked salmon spread out to make it appear as though I was getting a decent portion. I could barely taste any salmon at all, which was really disappointing. The toasts were priced $5 each on the menu, then when the ticket came, they were actually $6 each. Small difference, yes. But you expect the menu to have accurate prices listed. It took longer than average time to receive our meals, and my fiancé's food was also just so-so. Based on this visit, I'm surprised by all the 4 and 5 star reviews. read more

We used their party room for a brunch/bridal shower yesterday. Food was great. Our server Chantell took good care of us and was very accommodating. Small detail that meant a lot: During several phone calls to book the event & later to confirm things, whoever answered the phone always made sure to tell me their name at the end of the call without being asked. Our first time to Rooster Co. We were excited about the idea of local chicken. To ensure a good seat we made reservations through Yelp. We arrived to a find great decor and a man very willing to help us. Come to find out our table was not quite ready. We took a seat in the bar area and after about 10 minutes we were seated. The first seat offer was in the bar and I was less than happy about that seat. We were relocated to the dining room and shortly after greeted by Chloe. Ordered an app of Burrata with Chicken Bolognese for my husband while I had the chef's plate. The Burrata was exactly as described. The cheese and orange slices were delicious but the brown sauce was a little less than than. Both of our meals were out of this world. The chicken was so juicy and was beautifully complimented by the apple mustard. Chloe was amazing and very friendly and helpful. We knocked one star off because of a few service glitches. We waited for a table a little longer than expected and when the food was delivered the server dropped some of the food on the table, said sorry and stared at it. Decent food, but high priced for what you get. Arriving we walked in through the back door which is the area with the large parking lot. There was no one to greet and signs indicating waiting to be seated...? We wandered to the front area and found a host to seat us. The wait staff we had seemed more like a chef doubling at waiting than a waiter. We did not feel welcome and had the bare minimum of service. We ordered Chicken Parm. which included a salad. It was odd that they bring out the salad - with bread plates - but no bread. My guest asked the waiter about bread, he seemed confused and said it was possible for an additional charge. She was taken aback by this. This already does not align with any restaurant we've eaten in before. The chicken parm did not include spaghetti which is the norm at all restaurants where we've ever ordered this dish. Here again Rooster chose to skimp. I'd guess that the place is feeling a budget strain and so they skimp on the globally accepted norms for common dishes. Because of these slights, I felt embarrased to have brought my guest to roosters for this substandard meal. For our part - there are much better choices nearby. Roosters gave a bare minimum of service with a bare minimum dinner. If the price of a piece of bread or some pasta with a dish is too much for Rooster to deliver these accepted norms - they are sliding off the edge. read more

Biggest tip: If you haven't checked in here yet DO IT because they have a GREAT check in offer! We got 20% off our lunch for 4! (offer is for lunch mon-sat) After a late morning of aggressive house hunting we were EXHAUSTED & STARVING. After searching yelp for a place that would satisfy us all we landed on Rooster Co. in Newington. We ended up getting there for a late lunch (2pm) so there were only a couple of tables seated. It took the server a few minutes to realize we were waiting for a table, but once we were seated he was very attentive. I was craving a salad and the kale salad totally delivered. A delicious combination of kale, goat cheese, and beets-- although I could've definitely used more pumpkin seeds on mine. Both MIke & his dad got a half chicken with fries, and I helped myself to eating fries off of everyone else's plates (they were good I couldn't help it!) Mike had leftovers-- which rarely happens! We also started with the local polenta, which was something new for everyone at the table. There were SO MANY things on the menu that I wanted to try and literally as we left I said to Mike, "if we buy a house in this area we can eat here SO OFTEN". I wanted to look for a place that offered an exciting brunch menu and this place had everything! For those who want something sweet, savory or a mix of both. We did not make reservations and had a 20 minute wait. So we sat near the bar on their cozy sofa near the fire place. Now on to the food. I have to say I was so disappointed in the flavor and the temperature of my food. I ordered their Plant omelet and when I received it, it was like warm at best. I informed the waitress and she was more than happy to have my meal redone. The omelet was so thin it barely had any vegetables just disappointed. The potatoes were hard but good flavor. I tried their s'mores toast and it didn't live up to the hype the waitress made it seem. My husband enjoyed their deviled eggs and breakfast burger. Excellent spot. Been trying to get here for a while so I came for lunch with a friend. Solid beer selection & they allowed us to taste many before deciding on a couple. Decided to try the wings with the cola BBQ sauce given the reviews. They did not let us down ! A little darker given perhaps they are cooked in duck fat & the darker sauce but well made. Lunch special of 1/2 chicken with Caesar & polenta sides was simple yet well made. They gave us all 5 of the side sauces so we could try them all. I think the cola BBQ was excellent but the lemon and tandoori/yogurt were also good. On the servers advice we got a side of truffled mac&cheese & yes, it is all it is hyped to be. A unique, chicken-focused (but not totally) restaurant, with skilled-chef touches. My Daughter & my first time her and we enjoyed it very much. The chicken pot pie my Daughter ordered was perfectly cooked and delicious, including the unusual addition of a touch of curry! I had the Rodeo Mac & Cheese - perfectly cooked noodles, a delicious creamy cheese sauce, with chunks of tender chicken and sprinkled on the top with barbecue sauce. Well done! As a side, we both had their excellent grilled cornbread. Topping that all off with a great Spanish white wine, "Honoro Vera Verjedo". And finishing up with a perfect Cappuccino. Went here just after our state opened up again for outdoor business. Got here early thinking it would be packed but it wasn't. We were able to sit down out back in the patio area and take our time eating and to talk freely. Never felt rushed to leave after our meal which is big. My group ordered 3 meals. The traditional breakfast, porkbelly eggs Benedict, and Chicken and waffles. Only minor complaint was the smaller servings for the first two meals. The chicken and waffles went above and beyond. Others were delicious but smallish. Other than that though everything was great. Would definitely return here. read more

The restaurant has a nice ambience filled with local art --though a little on the dark side. Service was satisfactory. The server was patient and our orders came out correctly. As a vegetarian there is not much to choose from at this restaurant. I opted for the spinach salad with saffron poached pear. The pear and saffron were barely noticeable. The spinach leaves were coated in too much oil but there was no flavor to this salad. I had to wave down the waitress to get some salad dressing to salvage the salad. For 8 dollars it was a decent size but the salad was disappointing. I also ordered the truffle Mac and cheese. It was decent but I noticed that my other dining mate had more in her dish than I did. We ordered the same exact size. The dish was creamy with a nice truffle flavor. Slightly above average. The most disappointing part of our meal was dessert! I ordered the cereal killer cheesecake with high hopes. It was a mascaparone cheesecake with fruit loop crust. What I received was a bland, flavorless piece of 'cheesecake'. I didn't even finish it. The cake is missing something, a lot of something. My mate was disappointed in his potato chip crust brownie. It was very dry. Not fresh or moist. Difficult to get the fork through it. Came here recently for a dinner with friends. Haven't been back in a while but wanted to two friends who haven't been here to try out the food and we all walked out full and smiling. We had ordered the whole chicken for $19 a little smaller than the typical rotisserie chicken you would get at the grocery store or Boston Market. Adding all the difference saues like the peanut sauce; a little spicy and tasting like a Thai Sauce, a salsa verde sauce that resembles more of a pesto sauce then a Mexican dip, a Cola BBQ that tasted like a sweet BBQ, a creamy parm sauce that was rich with flavor and a not so hot how sauce, it was fun to dip the meat in and chat with my friends about the flavors. I would again say the salsa verde seemed a little out of place but was a nice change up. We had a side of the truffle Mac and cheese, brocolli Rabe and potatoe salad that added to the meal along with some creamy parm duck fat wings that were crispy and juicy. All in all the food was flavorful with me dipping the skin, wings, drumstick, white and dark meat in the sauces to see what worked well. We were able to grab a booth in the bar area which is nice as the dining room was pretty full along with the outdoor seating. The bar was the place you would want to go if you were enjoying your own company and stopping in for happy hour that they also offer the weekend till about 6. Lunch on a whim. We found ourselves with a little extra time and so wandered into the Rooster Co. It was pretty quiet at 11:45am but it didn't stay that way for long. Lunch was pretty packed but it didn't hinder the quality of service. Diane our waitress had great recommendations and the bartender had awesome selections for beers to go with our meal. I had the Flat tire and the hubs had the Brooklyn (something... but I don't recall at the moment. Sorry yelpers for this failure to recall.) On to the food!! We had the pork belly appetizer, whole chicken and truffle mac and cheese as a side. Eat all of these!! Pork belly was crunch and moist at the same time. How is that possible. The avocado mini mount was good too. It too salty for my taste. The whole chicken is just that a WHOLE rotisserie chicken. Juicy and yummy. The truffle mac and cheese was delicious. This place is an upscale place. Most of the dishes are made with their own personal flair for flavors. My daughter and wife split the cornbread minus jalapeños. Used to be done in cast iron skillet but obviously changed. Myself I have the meatballs. Quite tasty and moist for chicken meatballs. The girls had the chicken dishes with no complaints. Myself the curry chicken pot pie. Never thought about this combo but it brought a whole new dimension to what a pot pie can be. We have been here numerous time and this time didn't disappoint. Good service, above average food...pretty solid on all fronts. The lady and I went for lunch on a weekend. We went with the Rotisserie chicken with mac and cheese and fries. The chicken was super tender the skin was crispy and flavorful. Also you get to choose two dips to go with your chicken...super impressed with both the parmesan and the salsa verde. Sides were also impressive, all in all a solid meal. The only thing that was lacking was the coffee, pretty bitter/burnt tasting. Ok so, went with a date. Date is the chef of a very well known local restaurant. Food was superb. He ordered and did a fantastic job. Zero complaints on the food. My favorite was the pork belly. Here's the bad, and it was so bad. Once the wait staff deposited our food we never saw them again. I finally had to go up to the bar to get the check because we had plans afterwards and were running 20 minutes late. Honestly I had never had worst service in my life. If you want to come here for good food, I absolutely suggest it. If you want to come here for a relaxing time for Less Than 3 hours, I do not. read more

Holy crap on a cracker Batman, I am in fat local food heaven. We have been wanting to try this place out for quite sometime and just never got around to it so kid free weekend, Rooster Co. was on the menu! Plain and simple people, this place is doing good food good, and doing things well that other people are trying to do and failing at. The pork belly app was so damn good I almost cried. They are not shy when it comes to the chunks of belly that are flash fried and then place on a lovely slate plate, drizzled with orange miso glaze and sided with a chive panna cotta. I;m still shaking my head as I type this at the shear deliciousness of it. And then the Chef's Plate...1/2 chicken, with blah blah blah blah...PATE..OMG...and CRACKLINS. I said it more than once that I think I just want a blob of pate and cracklins to dip and I would be the happiest chick on the planet.
