Terrible service. Asked for silverware 3 times before actually receiving. Finally got a hold of the host who commented "what the hell was your waiter thinking-- maybe that you'd eat with your hands or some sh*t." Waiter was rude and obviously didn't care. Food was not very flavorful and certainly not cheap either. Water tasted like it came from a pool which was not great either. We definitely will not be back here and hope for your sake you don't dine here either. read more

Just left one of the worst dining experiences in years- not at all related to COVID or modified dining. Ordered two cocktails that both tasted as if chemicals were left on the glasses or washed inadequately. The waiter switched out one and when alerted about the other did not offer to accommodate or remove from the bill. Entrees were fine but minimal serving for the price. Street corn as a side was barely cooked through and had hard raw kernels mixed in. I will avoid this place next time in the Seaport area and advise others to do the same. read more

My friend loves this restaurant, so I went along with the plan. She has always raved about the tableside guacamole, so we started with that as an app. Our server, Alejandra, took our drink orders. There was an image of a beautifully refreshing-looking red cocktail on the cover of the menu. I said, "I'll have one of those!" Unfortunately, Alejandra did not know the name of the drink or what the bartender might assemble to look like the pictured drink. She asked if I wanted a Margarita. Hmmm... a Margarita wouldn't be that color. She asked if I wanted a martini.... well, a martini wouldn't look like the drink on the cover of the menu, either. I ended up just ordering some random drink that wasn't pictured on the menu . Rosa Mexicano had its opportunity to recover my goodwill when the guacamole makers arrived. Unfortunately, they didn't communicate with us, except once when my friend asked that they not put any cilantro in our guac. Other than that, they whispered in Spanish to each other the entire time that they made the app and scurried away after they were done. I got the Mole Poblano, which was delicious, but skimpy. My friend got the Arrachera (steak tacos). For some odd reason, Alejandra set a separate dish containing beans and rice sort of near my friend. We couldn't figure out if this was meant to accompany her dish, if it was meant to share, or if it was a mistake. Since Alejandra never checked back with us, until she brought us the check, we never had the opportunity to ask. Since I was still hungry, I ate about half of it. Another gripe, the table is way too long and narrow. I was 6' away from my friend, but 6" from the people next to me, making it impossible to have a conversation. I took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day and had a great time! The food was awesome, it was my first time going and I will list it in my top 10 restaurants to go to in Boston. As an appetizer we had the chips with salsa and guacamole, the salsa was decent but I thought the guacamole was really good and had a unique tasteful flavor to it. As far as entries, I had the rib eye and shrimp that I believed had a passion fruit habanero sauce, oh man that was soooooooo good. My girl had the duck which was also very tasty. The one thing that I think that has caused me to give this place a 5 out of 5 is because of the service. If you go to this place, you need to request for Eli. This guy is the bomb! I'm telling you on my first time coming he straight up told me don't look at the menu just tell me what you are thinking/looking to eat, we told him and he gave us a great recommendation! My friend and I went to this restaurant on a busy Saturday evening. Our waiter was good, but the menu was misleading. It said V GF specifically for four to five items on the menu which meant Vegetarian and Gluten Free. Since we were vegetarians we ordered only those dishes. But later did we realize that V GF means it can be made vegetarian and gluten-free only upon request. But this was not mentioned in the menu. Freshly made Guacamole was too good. Later we had to ask specifically to get queso removed from the bill, as we returned it because it was served with chorizo which we didnt ask for. read more

Delicious! I had a layover before I hopped onto the Ferry. Rosa is right across the street and had a great lunch special. Mini ceviche tacos and grilled pork belly tacos all for $20! Food here is "authentic-fancy" in that the flavors are very traditional, but the preparation and presentation is very precise and upscale. Chips and salsa are delicious and brought right away, the menu is a Tour-de-México with some lighter options but lots of flavor. The staff was friendly, and efficient with their service but I didn't get a server who stood out in any way. The manager was cordial, and took our guacamole off the bill after we found a hair in it. Two of us ordered the eggs benedict off of the brunch menu and found it to be quite delicious! It was a nice twist on the dish. One of us ordered enchiladas which were also amazing, and the cornbread that they bring for the table was also great. The guacamole was perfect except for the hair that we found in it. With all the Mexican restaurants in the Seaport, Rosa Mexicano should be last on your list. Since Covid, most of their food has started to be prepared in advance, so say goodbye to fresh guacamole in exchange for guacamole that comes in its freezing cold bowl right out of the refrigerator. Just like food fresh out to freezer, everything was very bland tasting and again, not fresh. It's great they have the "igloos" on the patio but there are only 4. If you sit outside but not in an igloo, their heat lamps do nothing for warmth as you're still sitting on the ocean with the sea breeze. read more

Well, congratulations Rosa Mexicano, you received the rare 1 star review from me, which is tough to do. This was about the only thing you earned from me that night. I was optimistic since their NYC location does a great job handling larger groups,and has great food and service, but I was VERY wrong to assume the same for this location. I had called twice ahead of time to make sure they were ready for us and to make sure they had the right # of people for us. When I arrived 10 minutes before our reservation, the table set up had not even been started! When I shared that we had a specific time schedule the hostess didnt seemed phased at all. The hostess staff did not do a good job keeping me in the loop as to when they were ready, I had to keep asking, because it was taking a long time. I had even walked to where they said we were going to sit us 10 mins later at 6pm, which was our reservation time, and nothing had been done yet. They took a VERY long time to set it up and didnt seat us until 20 mins after our reservation. Yes, it took 30 mins to set up our table for 16. The restaurant was not busy and it was a Wednesday and no one else was waiting. Which by the way, they still did wrong and set it up for 15. They also crowded us into 4 tables, even though there were loads of empty tables they could have added on (I hate when places shove 2 seats at the head of the table. This is not NYC for goodness sake). There was no sense of accountability and no apologies and no attempt to move quickly to set things up. We only had 1 hr and 15 mins for dinner, which would have worked for our group, but sitting down 20 mins late created a time crunch. Our waiter was slow and hard to find which made the new time crunch even worse. I had asked another wait staff member to put in an order of 2 mild guacs so we could get something on the table, because I couldnt find our waiter since he didnt come over to us when we sat down. He was the only one who seemed to help that evening. Our guac finally arrive and it was so SPICEY! Like mouth on fire spicy. It was also extremely chunky as is the person making it got tired and just served 3-4 inch chunks of avocado. When our food finally arrived everyone was shares how spicy their food was, even if it wasnt supposed to be. Many people couldnt eat their food due to the over seasoning with spice. Seems all of their food has the same note, spicy. Also, it was very loud in the space, even though the restaurant was half full, which made our networking dinner a challenge. So something to note if you want to come here with a group and expect to have conversation, this is not the place for this. To sum up our dinner experience, once we were able to track down our waiter to get our checks, he brought them to us and we learned that things were not split up correctly. Should have seen that coming. The whole experience was a frustrating disappointment. With so many other good choices in the area, I would never return nor recommend. read more

I came because a MEXICAN friend recommended this to me...I'm gonna have a talk with him later.... I was with two friends and got the sangria and the tableside guacamole. The first strike was that the guacamole did not have any onions salt or garlic. This kind of befuddled me but come on, even chipotle does better than that! The second strike was the waitress, repeatedly "checking on us" when we were only at the restaurant for a total of 1.5 hours or less. In the end we were so fed up of her endless questions (even when we said we are all set) we felt so rushed and started getting ready to leave. I can tell the difference between friendly and overbearing. Interrupting every five minutes to ask the same set of questions comes off as FAKE Some of the people who worked there were also GLARING at us while we ate; not sure if it was intentional but it felt like death glares as if they were almost closing. But we left before 9, rosa Mexicano is definitely open later than that so not sure what the problem was lmao The third strike all three of us felt when we got home...enough said. The entrees tasted really good but maybe it was the way they were cooked? All got stomach aches later in the night. Recommendation: share an entree they are pretty huge. Maybe come here during the weekend when they are more welcoming to guests ? This was dinner on a Tuesday so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt and attributing my bizarre waitress experience to the time of the week. I loved the ambiance and the location but the wait/logistics were awful! We arrived a few minutes early for a 7:30 reservation and were told that they were running a little behind but a few tables had their checks and they were going to turn the tables over as quickly as possible. No problem. We were not seated until close to 8:15 - 45 min after our reservation and we watched as larger parties who arrived after us were seated. We spoke to the hostess multiple times and even the manager who basically blew us off, always hearing the same line, we have a few tables who have gotten their checks. Really frustrating when you make a reservation. The server *sort of* turned it around, but by then the poor guy was up against 3 hangry people. And, no offer for free guacamole or a drink, nothing. Service is a sad state these days. Food was meh. Chips were good. read more

I was really disappointed with this place. I figured with it being in the seaport it would be fantastic. The hostess looked like she was having a bad day, possibly because of how busy and understaffed they were. Our server said he was new and although he was so polite and nice, we didn't get enough settings right away, plates for our appetizers and at some point we had the salsa for the chips but the chips didn't make it to the table for awhile. I ordered a tortilla soup that never came. The empanadas were okay. I personally liked the bean dip that came with it, thought that was an interesting dip. The drinks were okay. Nothing exciting. But the spicy salt on the rim helped. The worst part is we (my husband and I) ordered the "Tampiqueña de carne asada" medium well and that poor piece of steak came out looking like a charred piece of bacon. We thought about sending it back but with the time restrictions we weren't sure that we wanted to take the risk. The veggies on the plate were yummy but the enchilada felt like it was just a tortilla covered in a sauce. The esquite corn was the best part of the meal. The only authentic dish for a "'Mexican" restaurant. The corn had a hint of spice that was great! Actually reminded me of some corn I ate in a similar presentation in Mexico. Even the music was pretty lame, I thought there would be some latin songs playing to go with the theme but I was wrong. I might go back to try the tortilla soup because I'm really curious. We waiting for nearly 50 minutes for tacos during off-peak hours and an empty dining room, only to have the food brought to the table cold. What's worse, the table next to us arrived about 25 minutes after we did and received appetizers and entrees before we had a bite of food. We were starving at this point so we ate it anyway, alerting the staff that the food was cold. Oddly enough, it was still absolutely delicious even though it was lukewarm. Today I had an awful experience when having lunch and celebrating my nice's eighth birthday, right before the Cirque du Soleil presentation I was taking her to. We ordered a Ceviche sampler And I was socked when we found a live parasite on the fish. We looked at it and saw the worm coming out from within the food. After a complain with the waiter, they replaced the plate, but needles to say, we had already lost our appetite by then. We were given a discount for the contaminated dish from our bill, but what really bothers me is the blatant negligence in the establishment, serving potentially harmful food customers. This place is nothing short of a joke. Went here about a month ago on a Saturday night for my birthday. We made reservations for 8pm. We got there around 7:50, got our pager, and grabbed drinks at the bar. The bartenders were rude and dismissive to customers and each other. They screwed up two of our margarita orders, and the mojitos were soo weak they were barely passable as such. Around 8:30 I checked in with the hostess, who said our table would be ready shortly. About $100 in drinks and a half hour later later (8:50pm or so) our group was still not seated. We saw a table for 6 had been set up for some time. We spoke to the hostess again and it turned out our table was ready but they had FORGOTTEN to page us. We sat down around 9pm and were absolutely starving. We ordered a variety of stuff from the menu. The guacamole was good, but nothing unusual. Chicken dishes were sooo dry. Vegetable enchiladas were decent. But again, the service was awful. We waited forever for our food and drinks ("the bar is really backed up right now"). We didn't get a bite to eat until probably 9:30, a full hour and a half after our reservation. No apology, comped app, or dessert. Nothing. When we were done, our waitress basically pushed us out the door. There are soo many better restaurants out there. Don't waste your time here. The food is mediocre and the staff are incompetent at best, rude at worst. read more

Last night, after we finished taking the MA Bar Exam, a group of us decided to go out to celebrate. We went to one place for some food and drinks and moved on to this place. WORST DECISION!!! First, the A/C was broken. We were 6 total and were told the wait would be about 20 minutes so we went to the bar for frozen margaritas. The mango margaritas were served right away and were delicious, especially in the heat inferno. After about 30 minutes, I walked to the front to check how much longer until we were to be seated. There were so many tables and booths that were empty, clean, and available yet no one bothered to seat us. OK so that was a bit annoying, but not the end of the world. We get seated at a booth and the waiter, Orlando, comes over to take our orders. The group is not all there because they are paying their tabs at the bar. This visibly annoys him and he walks off. Once all of us are seated, he comes back and we are looking at the menu and only some of us know what we want. We mostly want drinks and appetizers and a few of us want dinner. He proceeds to ask those who are looking at the alcohol portion of the menu if they are on a diet. Then goes one by one directly asking what they'd like. When they tell him they are either still deciding or want something small, he starts getting nastier with the comments. I had personally just ordered the empanadas when he got to me and I added a mango margarita while I decided and he said, "really, that's it?" At this point we were done. It was a combination of the heat, the unnecessarily long wait to be seated, and then this rude man's commentary. Dear Orlando, you missed out big. Ask the waiter at the Renaissance Hotel's restaurant. We ran a $400+ tab and everyone tipped at 20℅ or more. Guess we now know where NOT to go. I came back with friends for a birthday celebration. Our table was ready at the time of the reservation and we were quickly sat down. The waiter brought around menus and quickly sold us on guacamole for the table. We then put in drink orders. Drinks came about 15 minutes after the guac was served. I chalked it up to 12 mixed drinks being a relatively large task if the bar was busy. But then...the waiter didn't return for quite a while to take our dinner order (or even check in on drinks). About a half hour passed between the guac and our orders going in. Thankfully, our table was full of friends and we passed the time. One of my guest attempted to order enchiladas without the sauce. The waiter was unsure if the kitchen could do that, which is completely understandable. The waiter put in the food orders, never returned to the table and so, of course, we assumed that the adjusted order was acceptable. When our food did come out - the whole table was served at the same time...except for that one order. My guest encouraged everyone to dig in, assuming his meal would come shortly...but it didn't. A hostess came over and told my guest that the chef refused to make his order. Not that he would make something else...but he simply refused to make it as ordered. I was immediately upset on his behalf, but being my birthday, he was gracious and accepted a substitution of another meal, but I was miffed that he wasn't told prior to the entire table getting their food. Why wouldn't the chef immediately send the waiter back to our table and say that he had to choose something else? That would have been FINE and he would have happily ordered a substitute. It was a calculated decision to not make his food and to me, it showed an extreme lack of care of concern for their clientele. To note: not everything went wrong. I very much enjoyed the guacamole as always, the queso fundido was again, very tasty and overall, I enjoyed my steak tacos as well. Poor customer service always has the tendency to override an experience, but I want to be sure that I highlight a few things that were good as well. read more

On my recent visit to the new one on the waterfront, the food was decent (guac, potatoes, queso, plantains, a rice dish), the drinks were either really good or really terrible, nothing in between. A good spot has to have consistent bartending ability! And the service - our waiter went from checking in on us every 4 minutes before we ordered our meals and then once we put our order in, he disappeared for no less than 30 minutes. A friend of my husband whom we visited recently recommended this place, and we dinned in for lunch. The day was freezing cold, luckily the garage for parking our car was right next door and had an entrance through the plaza. Yes they also validate your tickets which will save you a couple of $. The ambience is modern yet authentic and beautiful. Spacious to have large groups too with attentive n friendly staff. The service was quick n food tastes yum and authentic. I tried their Chile Poblano Relleno - which had the Roasted poblano chile filled with goat cheese, rice, sautéed mushrooms and grilled chayote. Topped with piloncillo tomatoes, salsa verde and queso. Tasted just perfect! The portion size was really good, two people could share. And the table side guacamole n their on house chips n salsa too were brilliant! read more

They'd just had a small fire before I got there and the bar area smelled of grease and smoke. My clothes smell that way too. Food was okay. Service was okay. Nothing bad or great about either one. Tried this place again for dinner. Granted it was very busy, but the hostess was visibly frazzled and a bit short tempered with the guests. I was by myself and several other parties were seated ahead of me even though they came in after me. Restaurants don't like single diners. Manager came over and asked me how long I'd been waiting then quickly disappeared for 20 minutes. My waiter keeps passing by but will not look at me. Maybe he's hoping I'll go away. There is obvious tension among the staff. No one seems very happy to be working here. Finally, a guy dressed in black could read the frustration on my face and stopped by to ask me if I needed anything. Just waiting for 20 minutes on chips and salsa, that's all. It took 45 minutes to get seated and 45 minutes to get three enchiladas and a bowl of rice. I've had better frozen dinners. Next time they have a fire, maybe they should just let it burn.
