I had higher expectations for this popular restaurant but left feeling that the food was mediocre. The menu is limited and I was looking for a dish with a red tomato or bolognese sauce or something not too cheesy or creamy. Unfortunately the few pasta dishes were prepared with a white cream sauce even the Veal Bolognese. I ended up getting the Thick Pork Chop which was excellent even though it was fatty the fat was creamy goodness. The sauce had a nice spiciness to it. The only problem was that I couldn't pick up the bone and chew the rest of the meat off of it. Not the polite thing to do in a nice restaurant. The downside was the other 3 dishes, each were not enjoyed by my dinner guests. I tried the chicken pesto and thought it was ok and had a nice basil pesto flavor to it but the other dishes were not memorable. One other thing that I did not appreciate is when a server tries to up sell and talked me into ordering a side dish of twice mashed potatoes. It was OK but I could have done without it and we ended up taking most of it home. They have a good wine list and it's reasonably priced. They also have a small cocktail list. It was very crowded and noisy the night we were there but we had a good seat next to the open kitchen. Atmosphere was nice, loved the open kitchen. The tables in the dining room were a little close together, but overall nice ambiance. Great place for a date night or get together with a few friends. Eggplant parm appetizer was delicious. Two medium sized meatballs were decent, but not heated through the center. Was not impressed by their chicken parm special. The chicken was overcooked and very dry -- certainly not worth the $30! Though the pasta that came with the chicken was really good and super filling. I can't believe I didn't know about this place sooner! Of course I was using Yelp when I found this amazing Italian restaurant which definitely helped with my decision to come here. I chose this restaurant to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday and she absolutely loved it as well as the rest of my family! My mom got a special with riccotta and marscapone stuffed ravioli and friend squash blossoms. My father and I both got the burrata cheese ravioli with meatballs (one of there well-known dishes) and my sister got this clams and gnocchi dish. My husband and brother-in-law got the Gnocchi Sorrentina. Everything was so tasty! Not to mention the service was also great. They gave us a tiramisu cake with a candle followed by a round of Ambrosia that was so delicious. Thank you Rosalina's for making my mother's birthday one to remember! Love this place! Great atmosphere, casual but special. Eggplant parm, ravioli, yum. Platter of antipasto disappointing

Have come here twice over the years, both have been enjoyable experiences. Most recently, myself and one other were here on a Sunday evening around 5pm. We used OpenTable on the morning of to make a reservation, and good thing we did because it was packed in there (turns out many people were dining before a show at PPAC). To start, we ordered a bottle of chilled red wine and the antipasto plate. While waiting, bread with olive oil and ricotta were served. The dip was very, very good; the bread wasn't anything special (it didn't seem like Italian bread made in house or at a bakery, just run of the mill Italian style bread). After a while, our waiter informed us the wine we ordered was out of stock and offered an alternative. We went with it and we were happy. The antipasto board plate is perfect for 2-4 people. It was a little heavy on the olives for me (would have liked some artichoke or mushrooms), but the burrata cheese with the tomatoes was great. For dinner, I got the gemelli pasta with sausage, broccoli rabe, roasted peppers, and topped with Narragansett ricotta. The bowl was a hearty serving that I couldn't finish on my own. The pasta was cooked just right and each ingredient was represented well in terms of quantity. After the meal, we got an espresso. Though, the table next to us got a dessert that had different ice creams atop a waffle. The waffle smelt amazing and the dish looked so good. Would definitely save room next for dessert next time. I had a great visit at Rosalina. We sat at the bar for a drink and then ended up eating there. The staff is great and very friendly. We started with drinks and oysters. The oysters maybe weren't opened by an experienced person but they were fine. I had perused the menu online earlier in the day and noticed a burrata cheese ravioli dish. When they handed me a menu, the girl sitting next to me received her meal and it was the ravioli dish. It smelled amazing. Decision made. It was heaven. I ate every morsel on the plate and then mopped up sauce. My friend liked her meal but I cannot recall what she had but think it may have been a special. I would definitely visit this spot again. Updating my review as of June 1, 2017. Love love love their food. I came here for a celebratory dinner and was able to try more of their dishes. Across the board the food is phenomenal, with fun twists on great classics. The cioppino is TO DIE for and their mashed potatoes taste like a cheesy, buttery bite of heaven. The squid ink pasta is really great in texture and flavor, and frankly, even the steak was better than expected! We requested a booth and while it was a busy night, they were happy to accommodate our request. The interior of an energetic bar and open seating area with a view of the kitchen is really great for a lively dinner party. Huge fan and I'm happy to raise my review to 5 stars, as Rosalina has earned it! February 2017: Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was wonderful! From the food to the service to the atmosphere, we had a really great experience. I got the Bronzino and my friend the squid ink spaghetti and both were phenomenal. The pasta was cooked al dente and had a wonderful fresh quality to it while the fish was generous and very well balanced. The complimentary valet parking was a great touch and our only complaint is that we were seated at the bar due to how crowded they were at 8:30 pm on a Saturday. Came here for a Bday dinner after work on a Wednesday night. Their servers not too friendly. Restaurant was completely empty and they refused to accommodate us at a table instead of the bar seating. On top of that they made us move 2 seats over supposedly for other upcoming reservations. It took nearly an hour to finally get our food (Mind you the restaurant was still empty because it was still early in the evening). Almost 2 hrs passed and the restaurant still had empty tables. I ordered the steak (HORRIBLE)! It was too chewy and kinda hard, not tender at all. Only good thing from my visit was the blue cheese salad and the margaritas. If I were rating Rosalina strictly based on the entrees that my girlfriend and I received, this would at minimum be a 4 star review. Sadly I can not overlook one aspects of my visit that really dampened the mood. We began with the fried dough appetizer as it came highly recommended and I was looking forward to finding out what was so special about this dish. Maybe I was oversold but I found the fried dough appetizer to be underwhelming (Would have benefited from slightly more cheese). I must be clear that the Main course delivered and was all that we expected. I ordered the swordfish which was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. My girlfriend who opted for the New York strip was also very happy with her dish. If our evening had ended at this point, I would be giving an 4 or 5 star review. Unfortunately at this point in the evening a very strong smelling smoke began pouring out of the kitchen. I am not one to be bothered by a little smoke coming from the kitchen , but this smoke lead to the couple next to us skipping desert and leaving as well and saturating our clothes on burnt oil smell and causing our eyes to burn. We did not leave at this point because we had already ordered what turned out to be a very tasty Tiramisu. I hate to be the person that changes his rating because of a personal experience that is not good related, but the staffs lack or urgency to deal with this problem was the main issue. I think it's worth noting that I will still recommend Rosalina to friends and may actually return myself. From all the great things I've heard about this place, I expected so much better. I ordered the squid ink spaghetti hoping that it would compare to the squid ink risotto experience I once had at Il Pastaio in Beverly Hills. Boy, was that foolish of me?! The spaghetti was so dry, like eating pasta salad with no oil. It was room temperature and bland. Although I didn't pay for it, I would've been happier if my boyfriend saved that $17-$18 for pizza delivery. Hey, at least they got the wine right that night... P.S. The other night my boyfriend and I were trying to decide on a place for our anniversary dinner. After much discussion I remembered my mother and cousin telling me about Rosalinas. We called to make sure they were still serving dinner and we headed over right away. The decor was charming and bright. We started with a half dozen of Matunuck oysters and they were accompanied by an apple mignonette which was definitely interesting. Interesting is usually never a good adjective for food but it wasn't bad but it wasn't exceptional either. The oysters were a bit small and had some grit and were still attached to the shells which I can deal with but we didn't have seafood forks to fish them out and our dinner forks were a bit too large and it made for an awkward struggle. Eventually we prevailed and ate them. I found myself picking out shells and such which was a bit less appetizing. But I was excited for our main courses. My boyfriend ordered the bucatini arrabbiata with the shrimp and pancetta. It came in a large bowl with a very generous portion. It was absolutely delicious !! Not one complaint from either of us. I ordered the tagliatelle bolognese which was delicious and felt like a big bowl of comfort food. It was different than most bolognese I have had, it had a finer mince on the meat. It wasn't like the typical "meat sauces" some places pass off as bolognese. It coated the pasta beautifully and it was the perfect sauce to pasta ratio. We brought half of our meals home because we were full and later that night we decided to dip into our leftovers. I must admit, I woke up the next morning wishing I had that bolognese for breakfast. Overall our experience was a 4.5. It would have been a full 5 stars if it weren't for the oysters. But nonetheless I will be back for sure. On top of all this, as our dinner progressed the restaurant became progressively filled with smoke, to the point that we had to end dinner early. Wait, I've seriously not reviewed Rosalina yet? What a tragedy!!! Here it goes... I love it here. I love the food (which is impeccable and delicious), I love the decor (which is chic and comfortable), and I love the staff (who are accommodating and friendly). For a town full of Italian restaurants, Rosalina just offers up something different -- you can tell this place is full of love, the actualization of a dream. Rosalina is, in a word, special. They also don't do everything like everyone else. Case in point: their calamari. In a state known for their fried version with cherry peppers, Rosalina does it their way; chilled, tossed with tomatoes, peppers, celery, dressed with a light vinaigrette and plated to perfection. They make sure you know this and get your ok before putting down your order, which is super considerate and very thorough. They do a great job with oysters on the half-shell, and their eggplant parmesan appetizer is the stuff of my dreams -- ooey, gooey, flavorful and hot. It's so good, this dish alone would get Rosalina 5-stars. Seriously. Oh, and that fried dough thing? GET IT. There are no words to describe how outrageously good this thing is, so just go and get it for yourself. You won't be sorry. Every plate of pasta I've tasted is authentic, delicious and prepared beautifully. In fact, as I write this review I'm wondering why I don't come here more often, especially since they offer valet parking. 43 was out of town so Frank the Tank filled in on a cold March night with 75 and myself to celebrate a birthday. We started at the cigar bar Hanleys and then made our way to Roselina's which 75 recommended. Love the space, nice bar high ceilings needs a foyer to keep the cold out. Tank and I found some seats at the bar and were treated to some great bar service and very good martini's. The place was very busy but we met some great folks who were happy to chat and make recommendations-try the pork chops-yum! Once we sat we ordered a few different apps- the meat and cheese plate- some meatballs some ravioli..all delicious. Nice overall experience. This place has soooooo much potential, but I think I caught it on an off-day (at least I'm hoping). Parking is hassle free and they have a complimentary lot which was our huge contributing factor for why we went there! My party and I called to see how long of a wait it would be for 3 people and we were told it would be an hour wait but they could put us on the list. Well, once we got there, I kid you not-- there may have been about 3 other tables. So we laughed and joked about how that was very odd way to start the experience that night. Our table was very wobbly and when we told the server, and asked if there was anything we can place under the leg, he looked like we had asked the most obnoxious accommodation ever! But we ended up placing a napkin there to make it not so wobbly. Also, they need to do something about th doorway because I had to keep my jacket on the and entire time because when someone came inside, immediately became freezing. Bread basket was delicious and very tasty but it took so long to come to our table. And again, there was maybe 3 or 4 other tables being served. Water was always filled with it asking which is my huge indicator of how quality the service was. You must must MUST get the Brussel sprout salad! It was the most delicious thing I had that night and I tried to replicate it for my family's thanksgiving because it was so tasty. I got the shrimp pasta dish and it was good but it didn't come cleaned or deveined and it was really obnoxious to have to clean the shrimp myself, especially for the price point and especially because it's cooked in with the red sauce. We also ordered a side of meatballs... They were some of the best i have ever had! I am not sure what was better but the Thick Cut Pork Chop with Vinegar Peppers was AMAZING.... However the Bolognese was one of the BEST things I have ever tasted... We were so full and had to take home quite a bit of the Bolognese, however it heated up well and was just as good the next day when prepared on the stove top... The bar is our go-to spot to eat and this place never lets us down.... We recently recommended this to our friends who were visiting from out of town and they felt the same way as we did... Happened upon Rosalina during a recent visit to Providence and was drawn in by the inviting street front presence. The food was good. Many classic Italian fare to choose from and all cooked to perfection; loved the local farm to table vibe that my waiter Will was prouder than a Papa, bragging on his babies, to tell you about. My review would have been higher if it weren't for the totally gross ladies room. Too bad I discovered this after eating. It was revolting. Ceiling vent was literally caked with hanging dust. This place took over the space where the long-running and beloved Cuban Revolution was in Downcity. The space is appealingly modern and comfortable. After our party of 5 waited 30 mins then had to ask for WATER, a waiter never came after that. We had to get up and ask AGAIN for service, and finally got drinks and food ordered after 40 minutes of sitting there. As for the food.... first, they were out of about 4 things on the menu, which means they aren't managing supplies properly. While the Bolognese was quite good (though I have a feeling the pasta was NOT home-made, which is sad!) , the corn panzanella salad was a big bowl of corn (with silk in it), a few cherry tomatoes and crutons and little dressing. (I wouldn't have served that at home.) We also shared the cauliflower with raisins and feta app, which just don't work, with too much vinegar and just an odd taste. The kitchen obviously doesn't have it together with wildly varying quality, inconsistant levels of "tastiness", and poor ingredient management. This place is the real deal. We had previously been here for an amazing Yelp event. The food was just sublime. We decided to get a Rosalina gift card for a lover of Italian food for Christmas, but wanted to give it another try to see if the second experience was as good as the first. It sure was. We sat at the end of the bar and had great service from the bartender (Deanne?). After ordering one of the wonderful Tina Louise cocktails we were brought some absolutely delicious bread. We also ordered the Conchiglie Ripiene, also known as pasta shells to a French/Polish/Portuguese person like myself. I enjoyed them, but thought the portion was a bit small for the price. The Italian Sausage with onions and peppers was another hit. The sausage was really flavorful. The hit of the night though was the Eggplant Parmesan. This was off the charts. Even a non-eggplant lover will be amazed by this. One tiny complaint though is that it should be served with just a few more crostini. I love Rosalina! I think this restaurant is extremely underrated and I'm not sure why I don't hear anyone else talking about it, because it is so good! I know we have so many Italian restaurants in Rhode Island and everyone's first instinct is to go to the Hill, but I promise you Rosalina is just as good, if not better, than anything you will find there. I tried it for the first time a few years ago and have been back several times since, always having a great experience. It's a small, but cute and cozy place, with a few tables outside on the sidewalk. Their food and cocktails are so good and the service is always very pleasant and friendly. Most recently, I was here while downtown for open air Saturday, and was reminded about how much I love it. My friend and I shared the pizette frite, I ordered the ravioli with meatballs, and we shared a dessert that was a waffle covered with nutella and ice cream - so, so good! The service was lacking, our first waiter disappeared and never saw her again. Then we had another waiter that appeared but wasn't very attentive. My steak was good but the spinach had so much garlic it was inedible and my BF fish was so burned the skin was black. We had been to Rosalina's in the past and had a very nice meal with good service. This time we arrived for our reservation for 2 a few minutes early. The restaurant was busy with several large groups. The hostessed seemed very indifferent, but that's fine, she seemed young. She showed us to our table which looked like the smallest table I had ever seen squeezed in between two large tables. We would literally have been inches from the other tables. In my opinion they should never squeeze a table into that space. We politely told her that we did not want to sit there. Without any kind of apology she told us it was busy with a large parties. Why except a reservation for that kind of table?. There was no apology, visit from a manager, or any further interaction about how long it would take for another table to open up. We stood there for probably 10 more minutes without any kind of acknowledgment. We probably would've spent well over $100 on the dinner for two. After valet parking the car we brought our ticket back to the valet and he explained to us that one of the waitresses likes to put a table there. It was not even that the table was bad that bothered us, but The lack of any kind of understanding or visit from anyone to try and accommodate us. We left the restaurant and went to another restaurant and spent $145 and had a wonderful meal. Maybe a bad night for the staff/manager, but we won't be back. read more

I cannot believe it took me this long to write a review considering I'm here 1-2x a month! Rosalina is perfect casual, Italian dining with modern flares in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance, though casual, can be passed off for being on the upper end. When you sit down, here's exactly what you do... Appetizers: eggplan parm - it's a crock for 2-3 people of layered cheesy eggplant you spoon out onto crostinis. Pizzette - think a doughboy with fresh marinara sauce on top and sprinkled parm cheese. Entrees: Bolognese - my family is from Italy, and this is the best bolognese I've had! There's nutmeg/clove flavors in it providing a depth of flavor. It's not saucy - just a lot of meat which is a great sign of a good bolognese. I actually suggest getting 2 entrees (1 bolognese, 1 other meat) and split both. This dish is also great the next day, toss it in a skillet to heat through and its just like it came out the kitchen window! Pork Chop - seriously, the vinegar peppers...that's all I'm saying!!! The owners are so friendly, and always there circulating the room checking on guests. Service has always been tops here. I love it! read more

The dining room seating consisted of metal chairs that were very uncomfortable, and the room itself was extremely noisy. Went here on a Sunday night around 8:30pm and wow, was it packed. There was only two of us and there was not a table in sight! Luckily we were able to get full service at the bar. The bartender was nice, but I wouldn't say service was that great. It almost seemed as if we were a nuisance to her. The food however, was impeccable! They did have appetite bread, and it came with an olive oil, crushed pepper, ricotta cheese dip. Really good! The bread seemed fresh and warm. Rosalina in Downtown Providence is a great Italian restaurant with fresh ingredients carefully sourced. For example, their organic olive oil from Greece and Narragansett Creamery ricotta - both served to accompany bread when you sit down. The service was VERY friendly and quite welcoming. For appetizers we had the Matunuck oysters and the cold calamari, both were very good. The light eaters among us, just ordered the Greek salad (Insalata Greca), and I ordered the hearty (and filling) sausage & meatballs served over polenta with mascarpone. Both were excellent. in an area with an abundance of Italian inspired restaurants, Rosalina has managed to stand out from the pack. They accomplished this through awesome food, friendly staff, a comfortable atmosphere, and a delightful cocktail menu. The first time I tried Rosalina was during restaurant week (which is one of the better RW values in the city) and have loved it ever since! I started off with the Wedge Salad which was your standard Wedge but the dressing was great. I then went with the Tagliatelle Bolognese which is one of the best I have ever had! The blend of meats is perfect and subtle amount of milk makes it irresistible. Every other time I have come back this is what I have ordered it is that good. I finished off with a giant piece of cheesecake that I shouldn't have finished but did.... Each time I have been here the staff has been excellent. They are super knowledge, attentive, and friendly. As I mentioned before they also have a great cocktail list. My wife likes the Satin Doll, which is an Elderberry flower flavored drink.If you are looking for a delicious meal in a nice atmosphere I would highly encourage you to try Rosalina.
