There's pizza, and then there's PEETZ-zuhh!! (Imagine a round, old Neapolitan barking the word at you in a thick south-Italian accent!) The battle rages on with regard to New York versus Chicago, thick versus thin, and pan crust versus anything edible, but for those of you with a taste for real-deal, Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, Rosati's is your go-to place in south Kansas City. I know Rosati's makes WAY more than just deep-dish ("stuffed", as they say in other parts) pizza, but since they have a monopoly on the DD market in my neck of the woods, it's all I've had there. That said, due to the extremely good quality and true-to-form nature of the pie, I feel confident in recommending Ferdinand Rosati's entire menu to all. Hey, what's life without a few risks?? Let me know if you've found otherwise... For the uninitiated: deep-dish pizza is MASSIVE. You'll want to make sure not to skip your upper body workouts for the few weeks leading up dining here, as these babies weigh no less than four metric tonnes per pizza. And that's just the medium... Seriously - you're a beast if you can eat more than 1.5 slices in a sitting. If you're brave enough to try two, call me after you're out of the hospital to let me know if you'll do it again... They have great specialty pizzas, or you can build your own. I recommend starting out with one of the specialties, as Rosati's has definitely found a harmony in matching everything up nicely in this large pool of cheese, sauce, meat and veggies. On my most recent visit, we had the Meatball Florentine, and I highly recommend it. The crust is incredible. It's quite amazing that sitting on bottom of 60 psi of ingredients, it somehow holds it's own and stays tasty, crispy and delicious. Lastly, short of having a literal platoon of hungry boot camp trainees with you to help finish off the pizza, you'll have leftovers. It heats up (especially in the oven) very well. We've had leftovers for four meals running, and I'm not even close to sick of it yet! Price is fair, execution is good, and service (pick up or delivery only) is standard. If Yelp allowed halves for star ratings, I'd peg this at 4.5 overall, since I've had better deep-dish at one institution in my life, and that was in Chicago. Definitely some of the worst pizza I have ever had. I saw them on groupon so I decided to give them a chance without really doing any research. We go to the place and find that it is take out only. Not a huge deal for us, so we go ahead and order, and wait....and wait....and wait. It took about double the time the gentleman said it would. As we were waiting, there was a steady stream of customers coming in to pick up their pizzas, which seemed like a good sign. The lobby was clean, the place actually smelled great, and there were lots of awards on the walls (keep in mind that they are mostly from over ten years ago, and primarily from one magazine). We get the pizza and rush out to get home so we can dig in. What do we find? Overcooked cardboard with bland toppings and toasted white bread brushed in a butter-oil mixture and Italian seasoning. The crust was not quite what you would call burnt but was definitely overcooked to the point that it was hard to eat because all you tasted was the burn. The sauce and cheese were flavorless and so bland that it actually overpowered whatever flavor could have come from the rest of the toppings. Finally, you've got pizza cut in the checker pattern (boo) and a weird pizza box that they would call inventive. Instead of your classic fold over box, you've got a top with wings that fold under and into the box when closed. It's difficult to not only open but also to close. It's a minor inconvenience, but so was the straw that broke the camel's back. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. read more

Take out night. OMG you're right by my work. Why haven't I tried you before? Now that's what a pizza is supposed to taste like. Great balance of cheese and sauce, delicious sausage and pepperoni served a crunchy but slightly melt in your mouth crust. No need to try anything else in the area. Kids wanted pizza and I wanted something good and local. Wait was 25 minutes but worth it. Thin crust veggie, double crust cheese and regular pep were all super tasty. Their salad with house dressing though! I thought about taking a picture but couldn't stop eating it so "sorry, not sorry" A little more expensive than we normally pay but we will enjoy our leftovers for lunch later and have smiles on our faces. I like this place...I like deep dish pizza ok but their thin crust here is really good...the closes thing I can get to pizza like in Chicago here in KC! It's kinda a drive fore me just to pick up pizza but it's worth it. We usually get's some wings and garlic bread too. The wings are good the garlic bread...not so much. I always forget that. But the Staff here are really nice, that's always a plus. Oh and don't expect to eat here either...well I don't remember seeing any chairs or tables. read more

This is probably my favorite pizza place in KC area. I ordered a thin crust meat classic and it weighed heavier than normal. After i opened the box, it explained!
