Not going to lie, I was feeling some sweets while in San Diego for work and decided to get a few donuts. I read good reviews about this place and had it saved so I thought it was about time to visit here. When I first got here it was empty and the lady came out from the back I was very nice and ready to help. I tried to ham and cheese pretty solid.. Not great not bad. I also got a dozen donut holes Which I ate about half of and they were okay too.. Their cinnamon roll which I saved for later on was also pretty decent. I'm not sure if I've just gotten to spoiled off of the premium donut shops that I traveled to, but I found this spot to be very middle of the road And maybe just rated as one of the best in the area. I would still probably go back here since I haven't really found a good donut in the San Diego area but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

RIPOFF! I just bought a dozen donuts there and the bill was $31. It wasn't until I checked my receipt later that I noticed they added a 30% tip for themselves without me approving it. Drinks are also available, from your typical coffees/espressos to even ice cream milkshakes!! Doesn't look like much from the street but Rose Donuts offers a truly tasty Vietnamese Coffee and pastry items. I tried their turkey breakfast sandwich which was alright. I thought it was going to be turkey sausage. Turned out to be sliced turkey deli meat which was a bit of a surprise. The glazed donut was good but my coffee was the star of the show. I'd definitely stop by again but would try another menu item instead of the sandwich. Great local spot! read more

I cannot tell you what a great establishment this is. The local places are much better than the larger chains, so with that in mind I always try to go to Rose for my breakfast needs. I have never been waited on in this place without being smiled at or greeted in a cheery way. The people here absolutely love their jobs and it showed. Recently, I came in for donuts on Valentine's Day - and guess what - THERE WERE DONUTS SHAPED LIKE FREAKING HEARTS!!!! I could not believe it. These guys think of everything - glazed hearts, glazed hearts with pink frosting (or whatever it is called), and glazed hearts with white frosting and sprinkles. Rose Donuts made me a hero for Valentine's Day this year! My kids always get so excited when I come home with Donuts from Rose. I kept it simple and stuck with plain glazed, sugar and chocolate glazed donuts. The donuts were large, fluffy and well received. When it comes to breakfast, I generally don't go out for it unless someone else suggests it or is taking me, so when I'm traveling solo I usually skip it unless it's to get some donuts and that's exactly what I was in the mood to pick up. I typed Donuts into Yelp and the closest place it recommended was Rose Donuts. I could tell from the line forming that this was where locals go to get a dozen or two while knowing the people making the donuts, and that's the best kind of donut shop if you ask me. I should of ordered two donuts but they looked so good I ended up ordering three donuts, a basic glaze donut, a chocolate donut with chocolate and shots on it, as well as a plain donut with chocolate and almonds or something like that on it, because it just looked so dang good sitting in the display unit. On top of the donuts, I figured I would get one of the little orange juices they had behind the register because I'm clearly going to need something to wash all the donuts down with and that turned out to be a great idea too because it was some delicious orange juice. The donuts themselves were all delicious and beat the hunger right out of my system. The glaze was light, fluffy, and just tasted the way a glaze donut is supposed to taste while the cakier (this is now a word, you know exactly what I mean so its okay) donuts were smaller, but had such a wholesome and classic donut flavour that I just couldn't help put finish both of them before realize that I just ate 3 donuts and would probably regret that decision in a little while. Overall, Rose Donuts is a real classic style donut shop that makes you feel good about both eating donuts, and eating a lot of donuts. The shop itself has a very home-like feeling with very kind workers, tasty donuts, and some good juice to go with it. I opted for the blueberry cake and the old fashioned. Then I started smelling the breakfast sandwiches and told myself "It's time to treat myself" and ordered the ham, cheese and egg croissant sandwich. I loved that the workers all had personal conversations with the customers which is so sweet I see. They love to know their customers and you get the warm sense of family. When I first moved to SD, this was one of the first local businesses I tried - the owner asked where I was from and welcomed me to Linda Vista. I've probably come here every other week since that visit, and each time I'm greeted with a smile alongside a genuine check-in on how I'm liking the move, and I walk out with some of the best donuts in San Diego. Highly recommend the apple fritters and old fashioned donuts, but you also can't go wrong with a breakfast sandwich or bagel. Parking is easy to find and there were a lot of spots in front of the store. The owner of the store was very nice and helpful. I got the lemon filled donut, Boston crème, and blueberry donuts. Ended up not eating the donuts until tonight for dessert for dinner. We only have 4 donuts along with the sandwiches, charged $27.66 with 18% tip. Called and told them there had been a mistake. Their attitude was that they have been open 25 years and have never made a mistake and if we paid for 6 we had 6. They are wrong. No business has never made a mistake and today they made a verified mistake. Rose donuts will never get our business again because of their attitude towards customers. I was recently lucky enough to try one for the first time and totally loved it! The glazed donut had a wonderfully sweet scent to it that was not overwhelming, but rather pleasant and inviting. The dough was so light and fluffy, it melted in my mouth. The glaze added just enough of an exotic flavor to enhance the overall experience. The chocolate glaze added a lot of texture and the perfect accent to the flavor. I was really impressed with the presentation of the chocolate donut. Wow! Really a hidden gem in San Diego. They open at 4:30am and when I got there at 6:30am it was already packed with a line out the door. The staff was great and worked with us trying to decide what to get. They have sandwiches, croissants, bagels and of course donuts. The have a variety of coffees or a cooler with other drinks as well. They even have hot tea if that's what you prefer. The donuts are fresh and the glaze usually sells out on the counter display quickly but they brought out freshly made ones pretty quickly. The staff made our trip in extremely pleasant. They didn't even have to write down my order and we ordered 4 sandwiches, 3 coffees, hot chocolate and a latte along with a half dozen donuts. They got everything ready including hot sandwiches in no time at all and repeated everything I ordered at the checkout. This is definitely a place I would come back too. I always go at night when Rose herself is working. She's a short little powerhouse of a Vietnamese woman. Oh!!! Sidenote!!! They offer genuine Vietnamese coffee so pass on Starbucks + cruise here instead. My go-to donut is simple: chocolate twist. The fanciest donut you can get here is a maple bacon donut, which they don't always have. This is not one of those places where you can get a lavendar scone topped with lucky charms (for $7) so if that's your jam, I'd go elsewhere... This spot is great for basic bitches like me. New to the area and I was craving a chocolate glazed old fashioned. Either a donut is done right or it's not. Roses Donuts does it RIGHT. Perfectly glazed, and perfect texture I've come to expect from my many years of donut consumption here on earth. What I really wanted to mention is the very sweet and hard working Asian young woman working here. I'd assume she'd been there since 5am and was sweet as pie and even told me " enjoy your donuts" as I left. I don't know if I could be as sweet as her after a 12+ hour work day. Bottom line. If you want a donut that reminds you of when you were a kid -stop by. On a side note if you patronize this business you are keeping a family legacy alive. I learned that in 2019 the owner of this beloved donut shop was murdered during a home invasion. A cousin stepped in to keep this family business alive.
