This is as close as it's gotten to me for authentic Chinese take out (minus the delivery guy on a bicycle/moped, or the selling of illegal cigarettes behind the counter). I am a huge fan of Mongolian Beef, & Shrimp w/Lobster Sauce, and its rare that I find a place that "Nails it". I must say, Rose Garden is pretty damn close. So close in fact, that it actually tastes just as good the following day. Honestly, I haven't tasted anything here that I do not like so they have yet to disappoint. I come here fairly often because it's convenient and the food is predictable. The service is always awful, but today it was nonexistent. I walked in and sat in the dining room for 10 minutes and never even got water. People who came in after me were served before me. When I went to report this to the manager, I had to wait two minutes for him to stop watching YouTube videos on his phone. He never even noticed me, one of the servers yelled at him that he had a customer in front of him. I'm just done with this place. read more

I come here all the time for take out, have never dined in. I usually get a lunch or dinner combo of sesame chicken, chicken with vegetables, or sweet and sour chicken. I also often get their steamed dumplings and egg drop soup or wonton soup. I love their egg drop soup and wonton soup, I pick it up on the way home from work whenever I am feeling under the weather. They always give tons of food whether a combo or entree order, usually enough for me to eat dinner and lunch or two dinners, sometimes more depending on how hungry I was. I would give it 5 stars, however, occasionally there are slight disappointments like tonight. My egg roll was super greasy that all I tasted was oil. Also occasionally the chicken for the sesame and sweet and sour chicken has very small, thin chicken pieces that result in more breading than chicken and what chicken there is gets overcooked and dry. The food here is great. We always get the lunch special orange chicken just about every time we go here. I'd give them 5 stars but today their customer service wasn't as good as it usually is. This is my go to Chinese food when I need a good, which is usually every other week! The service is great (I'm an expertise with their carry out) and their food is even better. Our family favorites are the cashew chicken, vegetable chow mein and the lo mein, beef and broccoli, and pork fried rice, egg drop soup... I could go on and on. We went there for Sunday lunch. They were very short-staffed (maybe, they need to get this figured out) and it took 15 minutes to take our order, and I was very frustrated. However, the waiter was polite and worked hard. Bottom line: as a native Chicagoan, I've tried China Town Chinese food, and several other top-notch Chinese food--THIS was comparable, and very authentic American Chinese food (the stuff you get in restaurants is not what they eat themselves, btw). For $6.50 (at the time of this writing) lunch special, I got an eggroll, delicious hot/sour soup (best I've eaten), and a super generous portion of the main course, which was very authentic and DELICIOUS. I have eaten here many times, and there food has always been good, and arrives home hot. I always do their take out service, and am amazed at the quality of how they pack everything up. Their soups are particularly good, with their hot and sour soup being the top of anywhere in the city. I may have found a new favorite for chinese food. I don't normally have the craving for chinese but when I do this fits the bill. I tried this place out last night when I was in the mood for some asian food and my favorite Thai place suddenly went out of business :(. Anyhow I had been eyeing this place and thought I would give it a try. At first I thought I would go with my usual kung pao chicken order but when I saw their menu I decided to try something different. I ordered the mei fun with chicken and a side of dumplings (half steamed/half fried). Both turned out to be just delicious and the orders came out fast. I know it was fresh because you can see the kitchen from the order window and hear them while they are cooking your food. Half of the restaurant is like a take out order window and the other half is a sit down dining experience. All in all I plan to come back when I'm in the need of chinese food. Food is good, but when they post that they open at 10:30 and don't get there until 10:35 and have nothing ready to go it's a bit disappointing. Most restaurants will get their people there before the opening and get things set up, maybe they need to manage their business a little better. read more

We really like this place! We have had beef with broccoli, general tso's chicken, crab rangoon (just a little better than ok) and pork fried rice. Other than the rangoon (which we still order because of my son), everything has been fantastic the 4 times we have ordered. The chicken is tender and the pork fried rice is awesome! read more

Ugh! Just had a horrible experience with their customer service here! The staff need some serious Customer Service training. They were very rude, our waitress was catty, their kitchen floors were dirty, and they charge you for every little thing, including to go trays! I've been a Yelp reader for years but haven't contributed until now. Guess I needed to be motivated enough. I'm so tired of spending hard-earned cash and wishing I hadn't. When I fork out money to have someone else make food for me, it's because I expect it to be worth what I'm paying. At a minimum, if I give professional food preparers specific instructions, I expect them to be followed. Tonight at the Rose Garden, I simply requested lobster sauce with shrimp & vegetables. When the woman answering the phone told me they can't put lobster sauce on shrimp w/vegetables, I figured it must just be a language barrier. I tried to be helpful, in case she was new, by informing her they'd done this order for me before. She flat-out told me I must be mistaken because they don't. In no mood to argue, I decide to dumb down the request by simply asking for white sauce, figuring any white sauce in a Chinese restaurant is bound to contain egg white-possibly even a lobster flavor, if I'm lucky.. She readily agreed to have it made with white sauce. When I picked up my order, I spoke directly with her and asked again if my order was done with white sauce. I thanked her and explained I was being careful because the first time I ordered this dish it came with a tan-colored, smelly, greasy, sauce that my family couldn't eat. Once again, she assured me that this was prepared with white sauce. When I got home and unbagged everything for my hungry family, we were completely dumbfounded to find the same tan-colored, smelly, greasy, sauce we encountered last year. Rather than waste it, we all decided to try it but couldn't make it through a second bite. While my wife prepared tuna fish sandwiches, I called the Rose Garden and spoke with the same woman. Instead of even letting me finish telling her what happened, she interrupted me to tell me it was white sauce. I asked if she'd give me an email address so I could send a photo to her. Even though they have a website, she told me they don't have an email address. I asked if I could at least fax a photo. I assured her that even a black and white photo would work. When she said no to that, as well, I asked if she'd rather see a photo of the so-called white sauce in the Yelp restaurant review section. She told me to, "go ahead and do what you want." My husband and I eat here every Friday night. We love this place because they have steamed food on their menu and brown rice. It's not full of grease. we always get the same waitress on Friday night.
