I'm unsure if I'd go back. I say this because the food and drinks are so unique & different. Though It wasn't nasty. The dessert was good. We ordered one of each of all the deserts. This is a great little restaurant hidden in Lakeview. We really enjoyed their dinner service so we brought a group for brunch. The brunch menu is short, but many of the sandwich fare and other side dishes off of the standard menu. Of course we loved the fried cauliflower. Went here with friends who live in NOLA. Their suggestion. I had the mushroom salad which was very good. Our server was very good, albeit a bit quirky, but she did amuse us. My only negative is when we asked for a last glass of wine, they brought it in a to-go cup, obviously indicating it was time to leave. This is another Susan Spicer restaurant and another big hit. First things first - the building is actually an old jail. How cool is that? Pair that nugget with food that makes my eyes roll back in my head and service that truly makes me smile, and you know it's another winner. It's a casual spot with a cozy feel. Phenomenal Fathers Day meal. We requested a last minute reservation and they were very accommodating. The entire menu was tasty. The burger, my bourbon chicken, but especially my dads duck sandwich. I am not a duck fan. At all. But this is next level melt in your mouth unexpected flavorful bites. Dare I say... one of the best San which we I've ever tried??? Drinks are pretty average price wise. I've beed to this cute restaurant several times by now. I came here for lunch, happy hour and dinner. Food is consistently delicious, with a nice selection of small plates for a happy hour. Servers are very friendly and attentive, and at the same time not annoying with their attention. They have a beautiful back patio which I've never been at. At this time of the year it's pretty hot outside, but I definitely want to check it out. Parking space is, unfortunately, limited. It was OK for happy hour, but I had a hard time parking for lunch and dinner. Interesting fact about this restaurant is that it used to be a police station. Restaurant is very cute and cozy, you will never tell it used to be something else. But they kept one of the cells in its almost original condition - they turned it into a unisex bathroom. This place did not disappoint.. i came with my co-workers for a lunch meeting. I was skeptical that this spot would be great due to this being one of my co-workers favorite Eateries. I had one of the specials which was the sauté drum. The drum was served in a bowl surround by a dark rich broth. See pic. My co/workers had the meat loaf sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, and i can't remember what the last plate is but every one raved over their food. It's kinda fancy but not so fancy spot. Got a recommendation to go to Rosedale, not realizing it was walkable from the house. It's tucked way back so definitely feels like a locals place. Happy hour is Wednesday-Sunday from 3-6 which is pretty great. Drink and food specials from $4-$7. We started with the guacamole which was fantastic. Just about everything here is made in house and it shows. The chips were perfectly crisp and salty. The guac was creamy and chunky in all the right ways with a nice sharp bite of onion. The smoked fish chowder was also great. It could have been a little smokier for me but I still eNjoyed it. The pimento cheese sandwich was super gooey and melty and the bread was buttery. The unfortunate low point were the shrimp puppies. I was surprised when they came out. They are basically skewered shrimp dipped in a tempura style hush puppy batter and deep fried. The issue was they were dripping in the fry oil. Way too greasy. I had to pull the breading off and just eat the shrimp. Still a good experience overall and I will be going back. Wow! What a find! Tucked away in the Navarre area of NOLA, and so worth the visit. Every single dish we ordered was great and, was specific to the restaurant. I can't wait to go back for Brunch! Cool, casual, neighborhood vibe. Excellent service! Patio seating! Great Bar! We had French 75 cocktails (gin based) that were made perfectly. The fried cauliflower is mind blowing! Get IT! And, while the menu had more dinner-centric options, we were short for time and ordered sandwiches. The pimento grilled cheese, which, I was pleased to find, was seasoned well, slightly spicy and on awesome bread (so good) and the meatloaf, which made us moan a little (so surprisingly good). We cleaned our plates so fast, we had time to order the bread pudding, which...is the best we've experienced! That nice (expected) almond flavor, but with a cherry glaze drizzle--fantastic! A HIDDEN GEM ~ We never would have found this spot as it is off the proverbial beaten path and yet it is well worth the find! We had a great meal; my cocktail left a bit to be desired. 4 stars would have been 4.5 to 5 stars if my cocktail would have been better prepared. This will become our go to neighborhood restaurant. Would love to make my go to Happy Hour spot. My wife ordered the August Coolinary menu and she loved it all. I tasted each of her courses and was equally ecstatic with the tasty dishes. The Peach Bruscetta was a perfect appetizer. Naturally sweetened, savory, tart, smokey. Delicious. The steak and vegetable kabob...Perfectly cooked. The Veggies were cooked but stilled had "bite". Each cut of steak was an excellent medium grill. Her dessert was ice cream with melon and a warm ginger cookie. My meal: I ordered of the regular menu and got their famous Honey and Tabasco Fried Chicken with collard greens, and baked mac 'n' cheese. It was an incredible mix of southern country and elevated experience. The chicken thighs were deboned and prepared incredibly. The honey and tabasco did not upstage the chicken. Everything was married in divine fashion. I could have ordered it again and ate it on tastiness alone! I would have stuff and miserable and on a food high overdose. My only knock was my cocktail. I ordered an Old Fashioned as it is my test for every bar or restaurant with a bar. The cherry and orange slice were muddled into the drink. Which makes for a murky, cloudy drink with clumps and pulps of fruit. And at it's basis...this is not an Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned cocktail is not a quick rum and coke type mix; it takes a bit more time and effort to do it right and based on the level of time, effort, and quality of food...I expected a higher quality cocktail. There wine list is very easy to enjoy because every wine can be ordered by the glass or the bottle. Parking is limited but if you are in or around Mid-City take the streetcar and walk three blocks or ride a bike. read more

Freakin outstanding food, drinks, & service! Adorable vintage salt and pepper shakers (resembling roosters, fish, an avocado). The staff obviously invests a lot of care into everything they provide. And again, the food is absolutely impeccable. Pictured is the omelette I got for brunch today. The side dish of Italian broccoli is to die for which seems weird to say about broccoli, lol. This place was great when I first went here 5 years ago and it is still stellar. So refreshing to find a restaurant that has consistent quality, & I'm sure that is not an easy thing to accomplish. "Jonas" the managing partner greeted us with a smile and seated us at our reserved table -a last minute reservation he made for me at the "hallway table" (much like a chef's table). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting for two was perfect -a comfortable, practical wooden affair with a candle lit on the table adding a bit of light to the dimly lit environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The noise level was noticeably calm with an occasional clinking of dishes from the kitchen and minimal conversation between the friendly staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Ah, the staff -a front of house running like a fine timepiece, everyone movng at a pace best described as intentional, not rapid nor hurried, not a hint of stress on a busy Valentine's evening. One of the chefs stopped at our table to visit with us, welcoming us with her genuine kindness. Our server was so friendly and her table visits to care for us were always appropriate and timely. Other servers passing by would stealthily remove any spent plate or utensil with a smile. The food was excellent, plated nicely and hot from the kitchen. There's a definite culture here and it's subtle -as it should be. We waited for nothing, wanted for nothing and were thankful for this excellent dining experience.
