I love this spot! It's so tucked out out of the way and rarely crowded (okay I've only been twice but ....neither time was crowded). It's super ADA accessible which is rare in this city. The menu doesn't try too hard because it doesn't have to. The oyster poboy, fried cauliflower appetizer, and peppadew shooters were divine. In fact, my group ordered second plates of those latter apps. Service was fine and largely left us alone, giving us an almost three hour lunch in the sunshine. The Rosedale experience starts at the front door, "Right place, wrong door" ...an arrow points you to the side of the building with a nice wide, accessible ramp and an easy to open door. "Jonas" the managing partner greeted us with a smile and seated us at our reserved table -a last minute reservation he made for me at the "hallway table" (much like a chef's table). The setting for two was perfect -a comfortable, practical wooden affair with a candle lit on the table adding a bit of light to the dimly lit environment. The noise level was noticeably calm with an occasional clinking of dishes from the kitchen and minimal conversation between the friendly staff. Ah, the staff -a front of house running like a fine timepiece, everyone movng at a pace best described as intentional, not rapid nor hurried, not a hint of stress on a busy Valentine's evening. One of the chefs stopped at our table to visit with us, welcoming us with her genuine kindness. Our server was so friendly and her table visits to care for us were always appropriate and timely. Other servers passing by would stealthily remove any spent plate or utensil with a smile. The food was excellent, plated nicely and hot from the kitchen. There's a definite culture here and it's subtle -as it should be. We waited for nothing, wanted for nothing and were thankful for this excellent dining experience. I was finally able to sit down for lunch and drinks today. I had the bourbon fried chicken thighs with Tabasco honey, mac n' cheese and the Italian broccoli. I devoured my plate so quick, note- most meals I always take leftovers, but not today! We came here to grab some crawfish on a Saturday night. Rosedale came with a strong recommendation so our expectations were running a little high. We had a decent meal with a few weak dishes. Unfortunately, the crawfish were the weakest part. Size was fine, but the crawfish were overcooked, and the seasoning was just a hair too mild. Their menu looks great, but if you're looking for crawfish, try elsewhere. My favorite dishes at Rosedale were the turtle soup and the desserts. As for the turtle soup, I think it ranks in my top 5. Plenty of meat, dark base and well-seasoned. It was the highlight of my meal. For dessert, we ordered the brownie and the special...slice of carrot cake. I basically ate both. They were excellent. The brownie had a nice mix of chocolate with salt somewhere in the mix which sets off that chocolate flavor. The carrot cake icing was dead on. Might be too sweet for some, but not me. No such thing IMHO. We had the lamb meatballs as a happy hour app. Total waist. They looked like they had been under a heat lamp for an hour. I think they would have been gross regardless. Just guessing. We had the avocado toast with an egg on top. This was pretty decent. The presentation made it look unappetizing, but it turned out to be pretty good. It makes more sense to me as a brunch item, but it didn't slow me down. Very decent starter. Overall, we had a decent meal. I doubt we'll go back. The food was good but not compelling. We sat outside, lovely late afternoon. I had a special termed, Pork rib eye which turned out to be a huge pork chop placed carefully on top of mashed potatoes with Brussels sprouts on the side. There was just a hint of a berry sauce on top of chop. My friend had the drum, which she ate every bit of , so I'd say it was enjoyable. Can't beat the pecan pie with ice cream! What a cute place! I think it was an old police station. Has a really comfortable vibe with outdoor seating as well. They boil crabs and crawfish when the season permits and they are actually really good and only $5 per pound. You can order potatoes, corn and sausage for extra. Rosedale has been on my list for a while and my dad and I finally got over here for lunch after a busy afternoon of cemetery visits. We were here around 1 on a Friday, and the place was dead except for a couple of people seated right next to us. I was immediately drawn to the cute, kitschy salt and pepper shakers and I kept trading off until I had the cutest ones for my table- things get wild when there's really no one else in the place. Looking at the menu, I thought I knew what I was going to get: they have shrimp and grits, so I'm getting shrimp and grits. But then I looked at the ladies sitting next to me- one had the shrimp and grits and the other had the fried chicken thighs. Holy moly, those thighs looked good! It turns out the thighs come with greens and mac and cheese. That sealed the deal and I got the thighs. When the food came out it looked amazing and I'm glad I was hungry because this was quite the lunch. The thighs were tender and crispy, the batter was perfect and the serving was generous. The greens were obviously fresh and the mac and cheese tasted like homemade. This isn't "out the box" mac and cheese, this is the real deal. All of my food was great and I will be ordering this again. My dad got the turtle soup and he enjoyed it, but he found it really spicy. Service was impeccable from start to finish and Rosedale certainly lived up to the "hype". I'll be back. read more

Randomly met head chef Jacob on our flight to NOLA and we took his recommendation to visit his restaurant. Went for wife's birthday and was a total hit!! The restaurant has a cool but casual neighborhood vibe and the staff is very friendly. Menu has interesting collection but all of the dishes were well prepared with fresh ingredients. Finally, Chef Jacob stopped by the table a couple of times to check on us - a very kind and professional person. I finally visited this spot...I had been given a gift card for my birthday back in January and my oldest brother raved about how delicious it was. Plus I went during coolinary so 3 courses prix fixe? Yes please! The peach salad was light and flavorful. The catfish and greens, tasty, but OH MY the mirliton chowchow was AMAZING. Now I do love me some mirlitons in all forms (that's chayote for much of the world) and this dish let them shine while putting a new spin. Yum! I had the Rail to drink...I mean bourbon and lemonade in August is a no brainer. And an ice cream sandwich for dessert which was tasty. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived, despite the difficulty in getting to it thanks to road closures. And, was it loud, there was a drinking party at the bar and when they left, it was such a relief. While I don't want a restaurant to be library-quiet, I don't really expect the people adjacent to be hollering. read more

My soft boiled egg was perfection! I would recommend adding the tomato, a hint of freshness and acidic. The warm mushroom salad and campechana was okay, nothing I would get order again. The menu overall is fresh simple food. The overall experience was good, but the lack of parking and flavor may not have won me over. I mean I loved the soft boiled egg, but is it enough to bring me back? I'd have to try some of other dishes to determine that. read more

I must admit that my first Susan Spicer experience is a big bust. We came in with high expectations for this new hidden eatery in Lakeview. Rosedale is tucked between a railroad track and a cemetery with very little parking which is a destination and not an impulse stop for sure because you will be hard pressed to find it from the road. We ordered for starters the turtle soup which was not traditional but not outstanding either. The main courses followed the same script for the most part. The first of the four main courses we tried was the cochon poboy which again I thought was ok but nothing you can't get from just about any poboy shop in New Orleans. In fact it was very similar to the one I get a Parasols for half the price. The next was the shrimp creole which was a very light serving with a slab of fried eggplant underneath. The eggplant was so overcooked that it was inedible, the shrimp, sauce and rice were ok not outstanding. My personal entree the lemon grilled chicken was downright awful. The chicken had no taste, dry and was topped with a tzaziki sauce that really didn't work well with the dish at all. The best dish of the evening was the lamb meatballs, they were excellently seasoned with great flavor served with some of the best garlic bread ever had. Our other side was some huge fried potatoes that were again just ok. Going to a James Beard winner and bragging about meatballs is not what you expect especially when you can get just as good meatballs at Arabella on St. Claude Ave. The service was another letdown as the waiter was actually a bartender more than a waiter and since the prices are a little higher for the quantity/quality of the food I expected much higher quality of service. Overall this place is a HUGE step down from Bayona so dont come here thinking you will be getting that level of food or service though even though it may not promise that level in the first place I expected the food to be outstanding and it is not a destination on my list. read more

I went to Rosedale a couple weeks ago and the food was good. Portions were pretty decent. I had their short ribs and it was absolutely delicious. Their pecan pie was great (although the crust was oddly uncuttable. The bottom layer was just too chewy or tough to even cut with a table knife). I'm giving them 3 stars mostly for ambiance and small (ish) portions at a higher price point. I'm glad I tried it. I would recommend people trying it for themselves. The ambiance would have been better if the tables weren't so close together. I could hear everything the ladies sitting next to us were saying. So much so that there were several times when our two tables interacted because of overlapping conversations. It was super awkward getting in and out of the booth seating along the wall because when you stand up between the two tables there is not that much space. So, great if you like making new friends at dinner, but not so great if you want a private conversation without people ogling the food you order and asking you what you got. I would suggest this place to people going on a potentially uncomfortable/blind/tinder first date because if there are any awkward silences they will be filled by the people at the next table's conversation. And that should give you something to talk about or the opportunity to include buffers into your date. read more
