Sorry, Rosen's. You have some cute tile and merch, but when it came to the bagels, I was kinda disappointed... I am grateful that you have plant-based alternatives, but whatever brand of vegan cream cheese you are using, I would consider making a change. Overly sour, greasy, and an off putting dull color, it's the kind of thing that makes people hate vegan alternatives. Good call with the barista blend Oatly, though. That one is the best! read more

The bagel is nice and chewy, and the service was great. But other aspects of my food wasn't great. I asked for it toasted and it was barely warm. There was no toasty color on the bagel. I asked for veggie schmear and, if you just look at the photos, this wasn't it. I bet they gave me scallion schmear instead of the veggie like I asked. My coffee was sour, which is a matter of preference I guess, but not mine. Overall I wouldn't come back again. read more

I'd been meaning to try Rosen's after several of my ex-NY friends said it was the closest to a NY style bagel that they've had here. I've also had Nervous Charlie's bagels and I think they're both about the same. Really good bagels. The vegan cream cheese is whipped or something -- very fluffy and doesn't taste like much of anything (what is it made of?), but still good. The real test will be my Jewish father coming over and eating one with the lox they provided. Let's see if he raves about them too. I did an online order with pickup the next day. They run out of flavors fast so that was the only way I could get the flavors I wanted. read more

There is another location in republic square that is a pop up that offers outdoor seating which is the one I went to. Offering bagels and different bagel sandwiches and offering a variety of different Schmears. They also offer a variety of different flavors of coffee. I got the special which included a hazelnut flavored coffee, Lox bagel sandwich, and a hash brown. These bagels are a perfect size not to big nor to small. I really enjoyed the lox which featured the basil and lemon schmear, red onion, tomato, and capers. These bagels will fill you up for hours. They were quick and got my order right and the staff was very friendly and answered any questions I had about the menu. This is a great spot for breakfast or brunch on a beautiful day and enjoy the weather in Austin. read more

I've heard Rosen's Bagels has some of the best bagels you can get in Austin, so I was really excited to try them. I went on a Saturday afternoon around 11 am, and they were sold out of almost every bagel variety, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a specific flavor. You can tell which flavors are left by the menu on the counter at the front of the line, which has the sold out flavors crossed out. There wasn't much of a line to order, but there were lots of people waiting for their orders to be ready. The person working the register was friendly despite how busy they were, and my order was ready about 20 minutes later. This place has several different seating options, including tables and bar seating inside, an outdoor seating area near the front of the store, and a huge back patio facing a residential building. They also have unisex bathrooms in the hallway leading to the back patio. I ordered the Classic Lox sandwich on their new flavor, Garlic Parmesan, since that was one of the only bagels left. Normally I would ask for no onions or capers, but I decided to try it as-is, and I'm so glad I did. There was so much cream cheese on the sandwich that it was oozing out as I was trying to eat it, so the capers and onions were really needed to cut through the richness. The cream cheese itself was really tasty, with a pleasant lemon flavor and bits of basil mixed in. I did enjoy the lox that they used on the sandwich, but I thought there should be more for $13. As for the bagel, I wasn't super impressed, I found it to be pretty dense. However, the garlic parmesan flavor was tasty and something I would order again. The parmesan formed a crispy cheese layer on the bottom of the bagel from being baked, which was the best part. I will say it doesn't really work with the Classic Lox sandwich (I should have thought about the fish + cheese thing before ordering), but it would be great with something like The Cure. Overall, this wasn't the worst bagel I've had in Austin, but I wouldn't say it's anything near the quality you would find in NY. read more

Y'all.... I was searching for some coffee and bagels. I come to Austin about twice a month for work. Have a lot of places on google maps saved but I was staying close by. Saw the Lox Smearwich in pictures the night before and thought, I should try that. Next day, after a long run, arrived around 7:15am. No one was there ordering food.... Ok... bagels at 7 but no one is here - what's going on..... Ordered a Cortado coffee and the Smearwich. Whoa! $18?! TF! Definitely panicked over the price. Y'all, worth EVERY penny. The amount of lox they add is amazing! Not only is the quantity amazing so are the bagels. AND so was my coffee. Let the pictures speak for themselves. I could only eat half. If you're vegan, don't be fooled by this place, because their vegan cream cheese is an un-spreadable, curdled, disgusting abomination. I called them & they claimed it was only temporary & they were replacing it but it's been months & months & it's always the same gross cream cheese. I've gotten bagels from here twice now and have been kind of disappointed each time. The first time, I got a blueberry bagel with shmear and it was just okay. The shmear didn't have much flavor and I wish the bagel was chewier and not so bready. The second time I went, I got a breakfast sandwich and felt like I was just eating big mouthfuls of bread the whole time. I think the sandwich needed seasoning/flavor overall. Although I don't particularly like the bagels, the staff is really nice and the space seems like a good spot to work out of. read more

Being from the east coast we are so excited there are more bagel places popping up! Tried the breakfast bagel sandwich with bacon on a Parmesan bagel. It was good, not amazing. I walked in hungry at 3:09 pm. The employee said they were closed. I asked what they did with the leftover bagels because the bins were full. He said they use Too Good To Go to sell at the end of the day. I have the app but could not find the shop on the app ( maybe because it was past their pickup time). He said I could get 3 everything bagels. I asked for plain bagels and he said they could do that too. They were in prepackaged brown paper bags. I was charged $6 plus tax for 3 plain (day old) bagels. They were very hard to chew. I only got one down. They could have at least given me fresh bagels for charging full price. I had even tipped them when checking out. Poor customer service! read more

Bagels don't have to be toasted. Controversial, I know. But if toasting makes bad bagels ok and good bagels ok, you don't know what you're missing out on until you've had a fresh one and Rosen's bagels have the chew that is the hallmark of a good bagel (while giving your jaw a pleasant workout too). Everything bagels all day every day. The cream cheese is excellent too and don't skimp (like a true NY bagel should be). I really dig scallion cream cheeses and the lime poblano scallion one is no exception, though I always wondered why is the cream cheese more expensive than the bagel itself. Coffee here is decent too if you want a good pairing. Vanilla latte is a great standard to judge things by. read more

When I walked in, the place was empty I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and waited almost 20 minutes when I looked through into the kitchen, I could see 1 work working slowly and the other one on the phone I understand that there's always to go orders online and could be they just got off of the morning rush or whatever it is I still don't think it's legit to make customer wait 20 minutes to get a bagel and then when I receive it, I have to ask her to be retested because it wasn't warm. They offer really great options and variety for trying new things. Be sure to request your schmear on the side if you are particular about the amount of cheese on your bagel. Inside seating is pretty limited, but they have a narrow bar towards the back that is convenient. Not very stroller friendly. read more
