It's one of those places that non connoisseurs call 'authentic Mexican' because they serve chips and salsa. I have no idea how this place has been in business for as long as they claim. Not good. My husband ordered food to-go. 2 of the 3 meals we got were wrong. The one that was correct was mine, chicken mole. It was not good. Every bite of the chicken had bone, so more than likely a piece of cheap back meat. The beans had a nice creamy consistency, which is the only reason for the one star I am giving them. The carnitas burrito, which should have been carne asada, was a tortilla filled with pork covered with enchilada sauce. Dry meat in a tortilla does not a burrito make!! The other order was supposed to be mole enchiladas instead we got a cheese enchilada and bean tacos. The shells were broken. This was a disappointing experience over all. read more

I first stumbled upon Rosita's place right after moving to the Phoenix area in 2012. Both my daughter and I were in love at first bite. The food is delicious and authentic. We don't get to the restaurant often since it's downtown and we live in the west valley but every time we do get here it is delicious! On our most recent visit we came in around lunch time. My parents were with us and it was their first time visiting. We started with chips, salsa and guacamole. All were delicious! The salsa is good and hot! Mom and I both had Chile Rellenos, my hubby had a Chile Verde burrito and dad had the fajitas. Everything we had was great! My parents loved it. The beans and rice which are normally not stars of the dish were phenomenal. I know it was lunch time on a Sunday but the place was very busy. You can tell that a lot of the people coming in were regulars and to me that says something. I know if we lived closer we would be regulars as well. For now I will just savor my occasional visit as often as possible. read more

The enchilada sauce on the burrito had a "chilly cheese flavor" to it which was strange. the guac on the side served with the burrito had a bad after taste. Super delicious and excellent service. The place was packed and very loud but we were seated very quickly and got a nice window booth. I had the white menudo which is hard to find, most places only have red. My husband had the beef deep fried tacos and beans. It was all very fresh and hot. Chips and salsa were good too. Loved the tomatillo salsa and it even had a bit of a kick. Plenty of parking in the back too. Try it, you'll like it. I will try something different next time. Okay, so I discovered this place after driving by it for most of my life and seeing the loooooong line outside almost constantly. I moved in the area and have gone here many times now. I'll tell you it's some of the best in town! Menudo is so good, and a huge portion full of tripe. The tacos are huge and full of flavor. I once made a mistake of ordering one on the side- I couldn't finish it ! If you love cheese crisps their is so delightful and spicy so watch out if you're not a fan of spice. You must try this place, but if you're going on the weekend for breakfast or lunch be prepared to wait a while. 100% worth the wait though. read more

Nothing here is disappointing, other than my last visit Bloomberg presidential candidate conducted a press conference on my thanksgiving visit with family. Regardless, my all time favorite are their chicken tacos, they are the best ever considering I make some good ones myself. This place has been local comfort food location for many years. If you're looking for Authentic tasting, home cooked Mexican food.. this is your spot! The enchiladas are bomb! Especially the green chili sauce !! They are a MUST try!! And the beans and rice are very delicious as well!! Beans are like nana makes and the rice is perfect flavor! I'm picky about my rice! Haha When you dine in, the chips aren't free but a must! They're made fresh!! And smell soooooo GOOD! Only a dollar for a huge hot fresh basket! I believe free refills on them too. So a one time charge. They only have hot sauce (I believe.. i nvr asked lol) but both red and green! They're both pretty spicy too !! Like almost no joke on the level of spicy!! I thought I could handle spicy but these are almost not tolerable for me. I think my taste buds have changed with age lol anyways they taste good, but beware of the spicyness! I do wish they had a chunky type of salsa! That's one downside for me.. I love chunky salsa!! The chips and salsa are usually a deal breaker for me when I decide whether I like to go back to a Mexican restaurant and although I don't LOVE the hot sauce/salsa, the chips and the food are too good not to go back! Also got flan for the first time , they call it Mexican custard , it's probably the worst I have ever had , even filebertos flan is better than theirs . For the second time in two months, at between 8:30 & 9:00 PM, I came in for takeout "real AZ-Mex" food, for which Rosita's has a reputation. I told the blasé hostess that I just wanted takeout, but again last night, I was told that the kitchen was already closed. I asked, "So, just when does a 9 PM closing time actually happen? I just want a Green Burro..." A messenger was sent to the kitchen, and we were in business for this visit. However, pay no attention to details on their company website. Their $4.80 Green Chile Beef Burro rings up at $9.50 (yeah, really!) and "enchilada style" is $2.50, not $1.75. For a scoop of green enchilada sauce & some shredded cheese? As a well-indoctrinated AZ boy, I came here for a real "Green Chile Burro." Beef, of course, never pork (shudder) and a "Burro" not "Burrito" (re-shudder). Those two clues are usually all that I need to be an enthusiastic, hopeful patron. The tradition is so difficult to find, and such trivial info is usually reflected in the food. When this huge burro arrived, I was offered salsa from the hostess, and, of course, I requested green. It was plenty picante (Serrano?) and chile flavorful! THE GOOD NEWS: Upon unwrapping this monster, the aroma of the perfect flour tortilla with toasty blisters was literally exciting. The HOT-from-the-olla filling was in large chunks of tender, perfectly braised beef with just enough brown (yes) black-peppery gravy to fill in the voids. It was amazing, and well worth the price! Now, THE BAD NEWS: This was more of a Plain Beef Stew Burro. None of the expected spice from required cumin was there nor the other essential flavor from roasted Hatch/Anaheim Green Chile chunks or rajas. No bits of cooked white onion or tomato accents, no whiff of garlic, but too salty. This was a great letdown. It was only one dish from their vast selection, but it's one menu item where an AZ-Sonoran restaurant must pass a Litmus Test. I hope that the kitchen either repairs this recipe or does what it needs to do: Taste, Taste, Taste to ensure an authentic, quality product. read more

Go hungry! Visiting the Phoenix area we were excited to check out the Mexican food. We chose Rosita's Place because it was close to the Celebrity Center and it had rave reviews. Parking behind the restaurant was easy. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Although the restaurant was a little on the dark side it was very cheerful and pleasant. The food prices were very reasonable especially the huge amount of food. My husband had the red and green chili and loved it. My chili rellenos and tamale were excellent... my favorite part was the refried beans, they were just plain delicious. read more

To be honest I am not sure how this place has such good rating. The food was well.... not great. I got guacamole, two beef tacos that came with rice and beans. Guacamole wasn't all the way mashed up and mostly tasted like avocados that are going bad. But then I got beef tacos and beef didn't taste like beef. It was mixed up with something. Weird mesh. I couldn't eat it! Thought I will have rice with tomatoes but all veggies on the plate had no taste. tomatoes looked fresh but didn't have good taste. Rice was over boiled. The best tasting thing was sour cream and chips with red salsa. Customer service was great and one of the reasons I'm giving this place 3 stars, portions big, the place is very cozy and nice but I'd recommend getting some better quality. I ended up at this restaurant inadvertently. I had tried to go to one down the street that had five star rating. However, when I arrived, the place has been closed down. I had to report that to Yelp. I ended up passing a restaurant store. I have difficulty passing them. So I stopped. I bought a couple little things and then I asked the people there where they would eat. The one woman sent me here. The atmosphere is okay. There's a fountain that Kids might like. I ordered to Carne Asada tacos on flour tortillas. I requested Pico de gallo and guacamole and sour cream.. The chips-- which I had to pay a small price for-- came with red salsa and green salsa. The red salsa is far too hot for me. However, anybody reading my reviews knows I'm a little wussy in that area. The pico de gallo was perfectly hot so no problems there. The tacos were very flavorful. Total before tip About $18.50. If I was rating the food, I would give 4 stars. I've been going to Rosita's Place since I moved here in 1987 and I've lived in the same neighborhood less than 1 mile away since 1996. I love the food and that it's family owned. Among my favorites, are the chicken mole, white menudo, refried beans and the best chips and salsa in town. So when I received my delivery order this evening, I was disappointed that my chips and guacamole I ordered was missing. Mistakes happen. I called and was told that I could get a refund, but not until Sunday when the manager was in and when I asked if they could deliver the missing items, I was told no, but I could come in and pick them up. That defeats the whole idea of delivery, of which I paid the delivery fee and tip. I feel that they had an opportunity to easily correct a mistake and I didn't like the options offered. read more

This place has lost its appeal. They have gone commercial. The food is NOT authentic anymore. And the hostesses are extremely unprofessional and RUUUUDE they act like they are doing you a favor. It hurts me to give three stars & I honestly want to give lower but I have hope that the food will go back to how it use to be. I've been going here since high school & the food has always been amazing. I've never been disappointed especially when it comes to the beans, this is one place I count on for the amazing beans. Went in January, our ordered was messed up 3 times. I'm like maybe this is a new person i've never seen her before of course i'm irritated but i'm chill about it because I get it, no one is perfect. Once they finally got half the order right (at this point everyone else is like forget it, we don't want anything else) the food was not good. We paid for what they got right & then left, not even taking food with us. Ordered food today & i'm pissed. I don't know if they are changing up their recipes or trying something new but I hope they stop. I always order a bean and rice burrito deep fried enchilada style. I've never been let down until Jan & today. This is the only place I like red sauce from but the last two times it hasn't been good, it now has like a sweet taste to it - it doesn't go well with the burrito.
