After many visits, Roux is one of my favorite place to eat in downtown Roswell. Roux menu offers a great variety of sandwiches and po-boys and delicious entrees. There is plenty of variety across the menu depending on your mood. They also have a great rotating selection of beer and menu that is updated on a regular basis. My favorite dish is the crab cake sandwich and my wife loves the fish tacos. If you want an interesting take on fish tacos then opt for the salmon. The corn salsa on top helps take away some of its fishiness. The salmon entree is also done very well with a Cajun seasoning over jalapeño cheddar grits. My only complaint about the menu is that there is not an entree where you can order a full portion of their crawfish risotto; it's only a side and the most expensive of any of them. If you're not a fan or not in the mood for seafood their burger is a good option and there is even a vegan option on the menu. Great little find on Canton St. In downtown Roswell. We had the big chicken sandwich and the pork sliders. The highlight was definitely the fresh cut French fries! Service was good. We sat outside on the headed patio. They have Allagash White on tap too so that was a extra bonus! This cute little gem of a spot gave me LIFE this evening! It's nestled between a group of other restaurants down Canton, but was way busier than most! My friends and I were seated outside along the sidewalk where we had a bird's-eye view to be able to people-watch, yet still feel as though we were part of the restaurant. Our server was amazing she was friendly, and gave great suggestions. Now onto the best part - The food!!! Can we say AMAZING!!!! Everything was mouth watering! 1. Deviled Eggs - the yolk was beautifully whipped, and there was paprika sprinkled on top. But my only gripe about the dish was that it tasted like they added a little too vinegar. 2. The Dip - Oh em gee!!!! That by far was the best spinach dip I've ever tasted in my life. It included smoked gouda, parmesan and cream cheese, and real baby spinach. The consistency was ubber silky-smooth, so smooth we wanted to bathe in the bowl! It came served with a side of both pita bread and House made chips. And if you run out of chips/bread they have no problem with refilling. 3. Brussel sprouts - served with bacon and cranberries mixed together, this dish had the right amount of crunch, yet still tender enough to relish in the roasted flavor with each bite! 4. Crab Cakes served with lobster risotto - Jesus's take the wheel and call it yummy! The cakes were tender, and had an awesome crunch on the outer shell. The risotto was so creamy and FILLED with loads of lobster. I can't say enough about it! 5. Shrimp and grits - the shrimp were tender the grits were super creamy, and the portion wasn't skimpy. 6. Beignets - if you tag the restaurant on any social media site, they will give you one free beignet. Since there were three of us, our server gave us 3. Me personally I wasn't too fond of the texture of the desert simply because I did not get that light as a feather kind of feel when I bit into it. It felt really heavy and by the time they arrived at the table they were kind of flat. I'm used to Beignets being light, airy and feeling little powdered pillows on a plate. I guess I'll stick to my Adele's if I want to relish in the land of Beignets - but that's another story. This is a great place to visit if you want to go out and spend the night on the town, if you're having drinks with your girls or your guys or even if you go on a date. I have decided that in 2014 I'm going to spend more time in Roswell gorging myself on all the wonderful eateries this historic city has to offer, and maybe even take in a few local sites. I've got plenty of places bookmarked here and it's high time I started clearing down my list. THE SCENE Canton Street is just a wonderful place to be. So much food, so many restaurants, so little time. Parking can be tough, but I managed to squeeze my big boy truck into a space fit for something much smaller. I then meandered my way around the corner into Roux. I wish I could share with you the wonderful smell in the breeze as I walked down the street. It made me want to bite the air, if that were even possible. It was the kind of smell that makes you try to track it back to it's source. Considering many of the neighboring restaurants were closed for lunch, I'm almost certain it was Roux. Like many of the restaurants on Canton Street, this place is small. The bar takes up nearly a third of the space, but it also has that cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere I find appealing and quaint. My waitress was great and helped me make a few difficult choices since nearly everything on the menu looked good and I couldn't make up my mind! I settled on the Shrimp n' Grits appetizer and 'All or Nothing' Po'Boy. I also received a free beignet for sending out a Tweet. I straight up love this place. Awesome selection of local and craft beers on tap, friendly staff, and amazing food. The pregnant wife and I went to Roux over the weekend as she had a craving for shrimp and grits. She always gets the shrimp and grits here and she loves them. Probably one of her favorite meals. I try and get something different each time I go, which isn't too hard since the menu changes slightly seasonally. I started with a cup of the gumbo and added shrimp. The shrimp were good, but I did not think it added much to the dish, so I would probably skip that addition on future trips. The Gumbo has big chunks of sausage, and a nice subtle heat to it. I would travel down here just for this soup, it is so good, chunky, and flavorful. I would be remiss if I left out that I paired the soup with a Red Brick Divine Bovine, and it was glorious. After perusing the new seasonal selections, and conferring with the waiter, I decided to go with the Cuban, which I admit is not the most creole thing on the menu. The wife and I enjoyed our wait for the food and admired the small space and general good times going on all around us. When the food came out, my sandwich was piled high with pickles, ham, pork, and Swiss. The bread was soft and warm, but did not lack the bite that is customary with Cuban bread. I devoured the sandwich and fries and the jalapeno cheddar grits that I requested as an extra side, and was cursing myself for eating so much. Therein lies the only problem though... However, the staff and location don't make a great restaurant. The food is what makes a great restaurant. I was very disappointed. I ordered a shrimp plate and found shrimp that was not deveined. For a relatively nice and credible restaurant, that was repulsive. I was honestly going to give this place one star, but my boyfriend enjoyed his meal and after tasting his I did too. He ordered the salmon. The crab cake appetizer was also very good. However, any decent restaurant whose kitchen pays any careful attention to what they feed their customers would not have this issue. read more

I came here for my birthday last Wednesday for dinner and the place was overly crowded with people. This to me was a good sign that this place does really well. I did not have to wait at all to be and get seated. I got seated immediately outdoors. This wonderful little restaurant gem in the heart of Historic Downtown Roswell is very easy to find and not hard to miss at all. Their own patio is right in front of their restaurant instead of in the back. I thought that was really interesting and great. Also, I was their with my family and got seated at a table made just for four. Luckily for me and my family, the couple that were sitting next to us at our table were kind enough to let us grab one of the unused extra chairs at their own table. When I arrived to and at Historic Downtown Roswell, there was some traffic. Luckily, there was valet service in front of and over by the antique shop over there. Unfortunately, I do not recall the valet service being free when my family and I were there. Finding a place to park can be a total hassle in the Historic Downtown Roswell area. My waitress (can't remember name) was extremely friendly, helpful, and provided very excellent service to me and my family. She brought out our drinks in very timely manner. There is a good number of mixed alcoholic drink options on the menu, it was really difficult for me to make a decision. She helped me to chose my first one by recommending their Old Roswell to me. So, I went with that one. For my second one, I told her that I wanted something a little more sweet and fruity. So, she recommended the Hurrouxcane to me. I absolutely loved and enjoyed both of them a lot. When I was looking at their menu for an appetizer and my main entrée, they had so many wonderful food options on their menu that I had a super hard time picking out what it is that I wanted to eat. After about a good solid ten to fifteen minutes of just reading over and studying the menu... I finally chose, settled, and went with the the Seafood Sampler for the appetizer and the Zack's Burger with fries for my very own entrée. Everything came out to perfection and it all smelled just extremely heavenly and beautifully as well. Zack's Burger ~ $11: A soft and tender bun, fresh (non frozen) beef patty, fresh lettuce, delicious provolone cheese, delicious fried crispy onion strings, thick juicy tomato, and a nice flavorful creole remoulade. I have truly enjoyed this burger a lot. The beef patty was cooked to perfection and to my liking. The lettuce was crisp and fresh and the tomato was also fresh as well as juicy. The fried onion strings were crispy and had a nice sweet flavor to them. The Creole remoulade was also flavorful and had a nice kick to it as well. This truly was an amazing burger. Seafood Sampler ~ $14: A scrumptious fried calamari, succulent oysters, juicy and tender shrimps, plump crawfish, crispy flavorful hush puppies, crunchy onion strings, sweet and savory cocktail sauce, and a hollandaise type sauce (I believe). This appetizer had truly made my day on my birthday. I also did enjoyed this wonderful appetizer a lot. The calamari was flavorful, the oysters were moist and juicy, the shrimps were very tasty, the crawfish was very succulent and plump, the onion strings had a perfect crunchiness to them, the hush puppies were very nice and crispy on the outside and really tender and soft on the inside, and the cocktail sauce and Hollandaise type sauce were just a pure delight as well. Old Roswell: a delightful slow & low whiskey, subtle (but good) peach bitters, a nice simple syrup (not sure what type or the name), and a very sweet and flavorful orange twist. This lovely and beautiful little concoction of a mixed alcoholic beverage was simply just divine and delicious as well. I truly enjoyed it. Although, the powerful taste of the whiskey was bit stronger than what I am used to. But, other than that it was absolutely heavenly. Hurrouxcane: pleasant amount of rum, heavenly taste of passion fruit, delightful taste of pineapple, sweet taste of orange, and a wonderful touch of grenadine. This second is by far my absolute favorite out of all of their mixed alcoholic beverage concoctions. The alcohol was not too over powering, but it was still there and I was still able to taste it. However, the more powering flavors were the fruit flavors of this beautiful concoction. This drink will have me coming back for more and more. My overall experience here was a very excellent one. This place surely did not disappoint at all. I do believe that my decision to dine here on my birthday for dinner was a truly good one. I cannot wait to come back here again and again, time after time. I definitely do recommend this place. The service, the cuisine, the atmosphere are all absolutely phenomenal and remarkable. So with my parents in town, and my birthday around the corner, it called for a dinner to celebrate! Now I could've taken the usual route of going into the city, and eating at some expensive place, which gave me a dollop of food on my plate......but yeah, I wasn't really feeling that this year!! I wanted to go somewhere, that I'd leave feeling full, wouldn't make me take out a loan, and still had a good atmosphere. So after searching online, I came across Roux on Canton. It had good reviews, I liked the idea of "New Orleans" food, without going all the way out to Louisiana, so figured I'd give it a try. Well I must say, upon arrival, I was very surprised at the Roswell downtown eateries, their were some other nice restaurants in the area as well. What I was not please about however, after about 1 1/2 hrs. went by, was the wait and the rudeness of the hostess at Roux. I understand this is a small location, but you need to be able to know your venue enough to not make promises you can't honor to your clientele. We arrived earlier in the evening, around 6, because I had seen in other reviews that their is a wait usually, because of how small it is. Well, we put our name on the list, no problem, and decided to walk around for a bit, at that time, the waitress said it'd be 30 minutes for a table (for just 3 people, so not a big party either). So we made our rounds and just visited some of the nearby shops and kept ourselves busy, no worries. Well after about 35 minutes went by, we went and checked on our name, to see where we were in the wait, and how much longer it'd be, and how about the hostess told us that she forgot to save our name on the electronic wait list, so we had to give it again, and it'd be ANOTHER 30-45 mins. So trying to be patient, I said okay, and we waited patiently. Well then about 1 hour passed, and at this point, we were getting a bit impatient, because we were seeing others come in after us, being seated almost immediately, and even though they were parties of 2 we still didn't think the staff was really working to accomodate us in a timely manner at all. Needless to say, after almost 2 hours of waiting, where we could have left and gone somewhere else, but were giving them the benefit of the doubt, we stayed and were FINALLY seated after having to complain to the manager about our wait time. Not quite the way I wanted to start off my birthday dinner, but luckily, between the manager, and the food, the evening was quickly turned around. We started off the evening with a cajun flatbread appetizer, which was absolutely delicious. It had this creamy sauce as the base, with andouille sausage, baby shrimp, and peppers and onions on it! It wasn't spicy, but definitely had a little kick to it.... I ordered the shrimp and grits for my main entree, while my parents ordered the blackened chicken, and the jambalaya. I will say that although the shrimp and grits were good, the shrimp could've been seasoned a bit more, with maybe some type of creamy sauce to it like some places do. It was basically just seasoned shrimp sitting on top of grits. Nonetheless, it was good, and I enjoyed it. My parents seemed to enjoy their dishes as well, as they cleared their plates! We also had the Rouxster, and Hurrouxcane drinks along with our meal and finished off with Beignets! All in all, once we got past the lack of customer service, the evening was a success, and I would come back again. Our friends took us here for lunch on a Saturday because we wanted local fare. They talked about The Dip. It sounded wonderful and sold us on the idea. When we arrived the outside patio was full so we were seated inside by the friendly hostess.... and told us she would get our server right away. My husband asked about IPAs. She was very knowledgable about the beers and suggested a local one to my husband. He ended up having two and told her it was a great suggestion. We order THe Dip for as a starter. It was wonderful. The plain and fried pita pieces were perfect with the dip. Not taking away from the taste. The dip could of been a little thicker because it ran of the pita. The flavor was wonderful though. For the main, we ordered, and shared the Gouda Burger with sweet potato fries. I think it was one of the best burgers I have had because it was a perfect medium/rare. Most medium/rare orders at restaurants are either medium or just too rare. Before our burgers I orders a cocktail. Almost finish with the burger I told my husband I think she forgot about my drink but that is ok. He of course called her over but I told her the same and that it was no big deal. With the sounds of people shuffling down the sidewalk past the doors, the sights of old brick and vintage fixtures, and the smells of Cajun/Creole cuisine, you may actually feel, if only for a moment, like you are actually dining in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The menu is what one might expect from a Cajun/Creole/Southern eatery - oysters, gumbo, shrimp & grits, fried green tomatoes, crab cake sandwiches, po' boys, crawfish etouffee, jambalaya, catfish, etc. Roux also offers a decent selection of Southern and New Orleans inspired cocktails and regional beers. That's a good thing too because Abita, a Louisiana brewery, is one of my favorites - and it was readily available here on tap. So, we started our meal off with the Pimento Cheese Fritters accompanied with a red pepper jelly and fried tortilla chips. Oh, wow these suckers were goooood! The red pepper jelly truly elevated those fritters by adding a slightly sweet flavor to the fried-cheesy bites. Though I understand that there are "different strokes for different folks", you must make it a point to try these. My wife ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich (asking to have the horseradish cream sauce replaced with Creole remoulade - which they happily obliged) with sweet potato fries on the side. I ordered the Roux's Bleu Burger with red beans and rice on the side. My wife reports that the Crab Cake was really good (she fancies herself as somewhat of a crab cake connoisseur!) and that it was cooked properly. The sweet potato fries were good - especially when dipped into remoulade. The Bleu Burger was pretty good, though my bun was crumbling apart. I happily quaffed down my Abita Andygator brew as I wolfed down the burger. The red beans and rice was more "soupy" than I was accustomed to, not like anything I've ever had in New Orleans. Though not "authentic", they were still tasty. Though we were both full, we couldn't pass up the beignets - free of charge so long as you "like" Roux on Canton's Facebook page, or wrote a review on Yelp!, or a few other social media related options that I can't remember off the top of my head. Anyways, the beignets were truly New Orleans style - buried under a heavy dusting of powdered sugar (try not to breathe too heavily or the stuff will go everywhere!). We enjoy many of the restaurants on Canton St. so we decided to give this one a shot, and we weren't disappointed. Except for the fact that the outside patio was full (gorgeous day!) and we had to sit inside, it still turned out quite nice. We picked a spot by the window and we were the only ones inside so it was nice and quiet. We started with the shrimp and grits and within seconds the three of us had emptied the plate. There was nothing fancy about it - just some shrimp plopped on top of some spicy grits, and I appreciated that. No fancy schmancy presentation. And it was GOOD! Nice spice but it didn't compete with the flavor of the food. My husband had the Roux burger and it was perfect. Cooked just like he wanted (medium) and spicy and juicy. The fries were seasoned perfectly; my brother and I helped ourselves much to his chagrin :) My brother had the grilled chicken and it was probably some of the best grilled chicken I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection and the seasonings were great. I had the oyster Po'Boy. I'm a huge fan of them so I was excited. I'll give it props for being HUGE and having plennnty of oysters on it, but I had to add some salt, which I never, ever do. It lacked a little in flavor, and I didn't get much remoulade sauce on mine, so I had to ask for more, but I still ate the whole thing. The hush puppies were really good, too. It was perfect since the tables were a little close together for my comfort, and the perfect spot for people watching. The waitress was quick to our table and even quicker with our waters, not waiting on our wine which after a long, hot day was greatly appreciated. Everything sounded delicious on the menu. It was simple yet had flair, and things were reasonably priced. We started with the shrimp cakes, highly recommend. The dill sauce sets the off! I must say, I really enjoyed my meal here. I'm down here on business, and I love to head out alone for dinner and people-watch. Canton St. in Roswell is as good a place as any to do so. To start, I had the Pickled Okra and the Chargrilled Oysters. The okra was pickled to a perfect sweetness, with a nice bite of garlic and a hot pepper in there for kicks. The oysters were incredibly tender and had a nice little bit of bacon in there to add a delicious smokey-ness. For dinner I had the Shrimp and Grits, and what a good decision it was. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the peppers, onions and bacon on top added that nice vegetable touch that I love. Yes, I just counted bacon as a vegetable. Sue me. But it was the jalapeno cheese grits that really sealed the deal on this one; the texture was incredible, and the cheesy bacon goodness was complemented perfectly by the kick of the jalapeno. I could've eaten twelve bowls of those grits alone. I finished off with some beignets, which was a wonderful (albeit unnecessary) decision. Mushy, doughy wonderland captured brilliantly by a crispy exterior and a beautiful blizzard of powdered sugar. This is easily my most poetic Yelp review so far. My first time here and absolutely love this restaurant. Their food is delicious and everything is made to perfection. We started off with the fried seafood platter to share among the four of us - yum! We ordered two bottles of wine (they have a decent selection), followed by gumbo soup. For my entree, I ordered their special, which was red snapper over lobster or crab risotto and vegetables. This dish was out of this world - the fish was cooked just right, risotto was full of flavor, and the spring vegetables were just crisp enough to enjoy the texture and bright colors. Heads off to the chef! Really, really good, solid Southern flavors and then some. The only wrinkle is that they don't take any reservation. However, downtown Roswell has many stores to shop around so you can do some strolling as you wait. And it's so worth the wait! read more

Such a great experience! My dad took me out to lunch for my birthday, and I was not disappointed. The po'boy's are spectacular, the bread is soft and the seafood is very fresh. The okra is not over cooked and has great flavor. The buffalo chicken tacos are magnificent, such a variety of flavor. I also order a Moscow mule which was of great quality. Oh, and the ranch at Roux is delicious!!! Overall, I recommend Roux for a delicious lunch or a night out on the town. Andrew was an awesome waiter as well. Linda and I like to lunch. And with all the cafes and shops on Canton Street, it's where we usually end up. Rummy-dummy me, I didn't realize that Roux has a New Orleans/Cajun theme, till Meredith, our waitress, asked if we wanted beignets for dessert. Yes, they have po' boys, shrimp n grits, creole remoulade and jambalaya ..... but we went in cause we liked the looks of the place, and because the lunch menu had a good choice of sandwiches and salads. (Nice shaded area in the front, for those who like to eat outside.) We both enjoyed our choices: Big Chicken Sandwich for me. (Their house salad dressing, a creamy balsamic vinaigrette, tastes better than it sounds.) Linda's salmon sandwich was also good. I ended up with her coleslaw since she found it a bit spicy, but I enjoyed the subtle zing. If coleslaw and salad aren't your thing, you can choose from amongst several sides: fresh fruit, potato salad, fries and more. A glass of wine -- chardonnay for her, cab for me -- was the extra plus that made for a lovely Friday afternoon. read more

This place, although a small restaurant (and sometimes a long wait), has wonderful food. The seafood dip is out of this world! A blend of cheeses and seafood, with spinach and artichokes, you just can't go wrong. And, it comes with pita chips for dipping (you can usually ask nicely for extra pita, because it's a hearty dip). We have tried several items off each of their seasonal menus, and I have never been disappointed! Just a few items that have stuck out to me are the lobster bisque and the meatloaf. The bar is wonderful, too. Lots of local and delicious options, likely a few beers that you haven't tried or have heard of before. Really enjoyed lunch at Roux yesterday! The restaurant/bar is small, but comfortable- ecclectic New Orleans style, loved it. I liked the small plate offerings because I don't usually eat a large lunch; so I had the fish tacos. The fish wasn't heavy- it was Cajun seasoned fish; a little kick to the slaw/sauce- yummy. Only thing missing was black beans. My husband had the Rajun Cajun burger and he loved it. Total bill about $25. Service was good, meal came out quickly, and you can't ask for a better environment then downtown Roswell. read more

I liked it. Kinda a hipster vibe but the whole neighborhood was like that. The food was good, the service better. I got fried chicken, which looked like a hand cut half chicken, gravy, over mashed potatoes and broccoli. I'm a bit spoiled on chicken. The batter was a little thick and I like the chicken cooked on the bone. But it was good, my wife would love it. The portion was enormous: like I said, I think it was half a chicken. I couldn't finish, but it was good. Next time I'd like to try the beans and rice. read more

The food here was amazing I tried the seafood pasta and my boyfriend had the shrimp and grits. They both were delicious. I love how this little city is set up as far as the restaurants and bars go. After dinner we walked to Crazy Love Coffee house and listened to live music. Overall just a great night. We can't wait to get back down there. read more

My Lady and I has started visiting a new restuarant every month. I found this restaurant via yelp based off the pictures and reviews. When you arrive to tell restaurant it's like entering another world. We were greeted at the door and quickly seated. Our host Sam was awesome. We ordered the spinach dip and oyster Rockefeller. For drinks we had A margarita and Brooklyn Ale. Spinach simply put the best I have ever had. My lady had the oyster Rockefeller they were not of cooked and arrived to the table warm. After taking in more of the rustic early century decor or dinner arrived in had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp was perfectly grilled with peppers and onions, layered over jalapeño/cheese grits. This visit to Roux has set a high bar for all others to follow. read more

Love this place! Now. It is a bit cramped inside but the wait is worth it! Casual place with great drink specials. We were there with another couple and we ordered a bunch of apps and a couple meals! We enjoyed everything!!! Everything we ordered was well seasoned and delicious. We had gumbo, mussels, fried okra which was one of the best I have had and came with a great dipping sauce. Then we had a flatbread chorizo pizza! For meals we shared an order of shrimp & grits which was awesome and an order of meatloaf. I am usually hesitant to order meatloaf out, but soooo glad we did. It isn't your mom's meatloaf! This was bathed in a delicious gravy and was not the least bit dry! We sampled a few drinks but the winner was defiantly the special Mr. Jingles!! My GF and I went to Roux for date night and had a really good time. We, well I, started with a dozen oysters and they were really good for being so far inland. For our mains I had the shrimp and grits and my GF had the salmon. The shrimp and grits were good but I think it could do without the peppers and onions. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Both dishes had grits as the base and they were very good. Luckily for my GF she caught herself before saying they were better than mine!!! The bar was a little on the loud side but not so loud that you couldn't carry on a conversation. It didn't help that the Auburn v UGA game was on... WAR DAMN EAGLE!!! So yeah I might have created a bit of noise when the miracle in Jordan Hare happened... Sorry about that. read more
