I'm giving 1 star because there is no negative 5 stars offered. I literally just paid 68.25 from this place for Door Dash to bring me about 2 ounces of beef 5 mushrooms and 2 packets of soy sauce. Let me explain. I ordered the Black Pepper Filet Mignon and it was expensive. But, so is beef. I figured they'd put you know, a whole 8 ounce filet in. Nope. If this entree has more than 2 ounces I'd be stunned. On the order, you pick up to 5 add on or whatever, which is why I got anything other than just the beef. Rice? Nope. I looked all over the order form but the only rice listed was other entrees for 20 bucks and up. So, I figured rice must be included. I figured wrong. Came here this week for the first time and was surprised how empty it was honestly. We ordered shisito pepper and green beans to start and they informed us they were out of both of those. We then ordered dumplings, friend rice, pepper steak, wine, chow mein, and kung pai chicken and ended with Nutella ube Bao buns. Overall, service was great. I visited Maison Chinoise with some friends on a Saturday night and it was an overall nice time, especially because we got to go to the speakeasy, Regines Lounge in the back which was a super cool experience with live music from the band later in the evening. What we ordered at Maison Chinoise includes: Food: -Crispy Orange Beef -Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles -Wagyu Beef and Truffle Fried Rice Drinks: -Lychee Luck Key takeaways: the crispy orange beef was very sweet and tangy (like an elevated orange chicken dish from PF Chang's). The fried rice was good, but a bit dry. The truffle doesn't add much flavor so I really relied on the wagyu beef to carry the dish, but the problem was the pieces were tiny and there wasn't that much protein included portion wise. The lychee cocktail included tito's vodka, pomegranate, yuzu, sugar, and lychee foam. I had a horrible experience here while celebrating my birthday at this restuarant on Saturday night (3/14). The only good thing about my time at Maison Chinoise was that the food was good, however the service was so terrible and off-putting that I never want to return here again. Let's dive into why this was so bad shall we? 1. I reserved a table for 6 at 7pm. Me and 3 of my guests arrived at 6:55pm and checked in at the hostess stand. The hostess told us to hold on for a moment and left to check on a table. While she was away, a group of people who came in after us told the other hostess that they had a reservation for7:15pm. Tell me why did that hostess immediately take them to a table? What sense does that make? When our hostess returned, after that party was taken to their table, she grabbed the menus and told us "wait here while I put the menus on the table." Huh? Why? That wasn't done for the other party. 2. The manager (I guess it was the manager. It was a woman wearing a dress) kept coming to where we were seated to open the window shade even though it wasn't a problem for our table. 3. This same woman later in the evening said in response to me sharing that we had a reservation next door at Regine's Lounge and I was concerned about the timing while we waited for our entrees to arrive that she would "take all your 'sh!t' next door" if it took too long for us to get our food and eat. WTF?!?!?!?! It was so UNPROFESSIONAL. All of my guests were stunned. I couldn't believe that she said that to us and we weren't rude, mean, loud, or disagreeable, just concerned about only having 20 minutes to eat our meals and pay. I felt insulted, especially considering that we were the only predominantly black/POC table in the restuarant and I know for a fact that this same white woman would have never said this to the tables around us. I'm disgusted. 4. The service ALL NIGHT was HORRIBLE! Our waiter was also the bartender, and he constantly got sidetracked and distracted with assisting with other guests or tasks inbetween checking on us, bringing us things, taking requests, etc. We would ask for things throughout the evening (like more water, etc.) and he would say "ok I'll get that, but let me take these plates back first and I'll be right back." Then he would leave and not come back for 20 minutes. This happened throughout the entire 2 hours we were there. 5. As I mentioned above, this was for my BIRTHDAY DINNER. I indicated this when I made my reservation. It was very obvious that we were there for a special occassion (a group of 6 well-dressed ladies), so why not ask if we were celebrating a birthday or a special occassion! That was not done by anyone at all. We were also not offered dessert by ANYONE. I complained when we were ready to leave to our waiter and he said that he didn't know it was my birthday, yet STILL DID NOT OFFER ME A DESSERT, NOT EVEN ONE TO GO! The Raggedy Manager Woman should have been more concerned about this as well, rather than repeatedly trying to adjust a window shade behind our table that didn't matter to us! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE BY ALL! 6. The peace-de-resistance was that after such a horrible dining experience, was that gratuity was added to the tune of about 20%. Second time trying this place. Love the decor inside. It wasnt very busy but the service was a bit slow. The manager was very nice though and explained it was due to a large party. The food we ordered did not have flavor I was expecting. The seafood puffs had legit seafood in them and they had a unique flavor but it didnt necessarily fit my flavor preferences. Theres some real standout delicious food on this menu but also a few things that fell short on flavor. Would definitely recommend the Pork Xiao long bao, orange chicken or beef, and the rice dishes. To start: The Iberico Xiao Long Bao were incredible. The beef spring rolls were tasty and simple. The prawn har gow were beautiful but very fishy without much other flavor. To the mains: Unfortunately the kung pao chicken was mostly potatoes and bell peppers ( not chicken ) and tasted only of peppers and potatoes with no heat and minimal spice. Orange chicken and orange beef stood out as being significantly more balanced flavor profiles than the kung pao chicken. The maison fried rice is similar to a "happy family" rice on a traditional American chinese menu but elevated ingredients and flavors - super delicious. The ambiance and service are amazing. I decided to wait a week before leaving a review as the experience was not great. My wife and I joined two other couples for dinner a little over a week ago. It was a great evening with friends but the service at the restaurant was lacking. Here are some issues we had: They sat our party of 6 at a 4-top with chairs at both ends. This felt pretty tight. We were not addressed after sitting for quite a long time and had to ask for service. Drinks took a really long time even though the restaurant was not overly busy. The busser somehow could not fill our waters without spilling and our table was covered with water. We had to ask that they bring a towel to dry it. The manager offered to comp a dish and didn't tell anyone so we ordered the same dish and they tried to bring two. We explained what happened so they took the second one back but didn't remove it from the check. At the end of the evening, they brought us the incorrect bill. The bartenders were gossiping about guests loudly while we were having a drink before dinner at the bar. Food was good. Not great but good. This may have been influenced by the rest of the evening. The food service was incredibly speedy. We were in and out in an hour, and we ordered several items. It was with great anticipation that we booked a reservation at Maison Chinoise during their first full week of opening -- and to some extent, they delivered an impressive experience. First, the service was truly first class. Our server was friendly, cheerful, and incredibly attentive. We couldn't have asked for better hospitality. Second, the food was outstanding. * The hot and sour soup was especially delicious, with rich, exotic flavors that were both unique and mouthwatering. * Their signature fried rice was flavorful and packed with vegetables, beef, chicken, and shrimp. * The Wagyu potstickers and the Kung Pao chicken were absolutely excellent. * The only dish that missed the mark was the fried wontons, which arrived under-fried and a bit too soft. The wine selection was terrific, and with a generous tip, the total came to about $100 per person -- reasonable and expected for a gourmet restaurant in the city. The only reason we didn't give a full five-star rating was due to an extremely disruptive large party seated at the very center of the restaurant. The yelling, screaming, and shrill voices made it, quite honestly, the most disruptive meal we have ever experienced. It is my sincere hope that the owners understand that large groups should be seated in the outer section of the restaurant, not at its core, where their noise impacts everyone. The decision to place such a loud party in the middle of the dining room reflected very poor management judgment and significantly diminished an otherwise excellent meal. We do plan to return eventually, but we feel the restaurant needs some time to figure out how they will manage their crowd dynamics. And despite the disruption -- which our server openly acknowledged -- nothing was comped, not even a dessert. This, too, was a disappointing choice on the part of management. In summary: The food and service were superb, and the restaurant shows tremendous promise. Went here for a date night Saturday night and the place was pretty empty. 2 stars for servers being nice and polite but a bit lacking, the ambiance was trendy and food was ok-ish. However, for an expensive restaurant there's a lot of things lacking: 1) Food/ False advertising - ordered Peking Duck fried rice and while it was made with duck, I'm pretty sure it was NOT Peking duck because the duck didn't have the signature red skin or crispiness. That aside though the rice tasted ok, there were MANY pieces of white, soggy/floppy, un-rendered duck fat pieces in the fried rice, kept having to pull them out of my mouth. The king prawn dumplings were pretty but NOT good at all, the gold flakes and caviar couldn't save it. The general Tso's chicken was classic - they didn't mess it up and the truffle mushroom "dumplings" were extremely good (though they look like Shumai). Portions are generous and there's an option to get 4 dumplings instead of 3 depending on the size of your party. 2) Cleanliness - the lamps outside were dusty and had cobwebs 3) Service - though the servers were sweet and polite, I had to ask for my appetizer plate to be changed though it was full of sauce (if it was visibly clean I'd understand) and had to ask for serving spoons for our entrees (that was weird). 4) Parking situation - it's valet only in the lot next to the restaurant (which is fine), but when we came, there were plenty of spots in this lot (4-5) and even when we left we saw plenty of open slots in this lot - but when we asked valet to get our car, they had parked it outside the lot far away somewhere, it kind of irritated me because I noticed all the cars in the front were expensive cars only - a BMW, Range Rover etc. We do not have a beater car by any means, but this felt unnecessarily elitist. If they were busy I could understand prioritizing "VIP" clients parking but this was ridiculous. I'm being hard on this place because I paid good money but, nothing really blew me away. I could honestly get better quality food with less fru-fru presentation elsewhere for less and leave more satisfied. The place has potential, but if you're not busy on a Saturday night at peak dinner time and have a pompous vibe without proper backing (service/food quality etc.), there's something very wrong and I now see why. The highlights for me were definitely the coconut milk bread and the truffle mushroom dumplings. I went with a agroup of 8 and they were able to add a la cart pieces so everyone would have a try which I loved. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We were able to sit at a large circular table which made it a great communal dining experience. Additionally I love the front of the restaurant and natural light.
