This place is so cozy, and I wanted to sit here all day! This quaint cafe is located in the middle of downtown Burlingame, and our appetite thanked us for coming in. They offer dine in seating inside and/or outside. It was pouring, so we opted for indoor seating - in the back near the doors leading into the kitchen. Our initial entrance into the cafe brought us face to face with a display of available donuts, as you'd see in a regular donut shop. The staff were so helpful and sweet, and the food was delicious; portions were massive! My partner chose their Huevos Rancheros and I went with their Cobb Salad with Honey Mustard Balsamic dressing. We were so amazed by the size of the portions - as you can tell from our photo. I hadn't realized my dressing were two separate types, but I mixed them both into my breakfast and, to our surprise, I cleaned the entire plate - no dishwasher needed. I brought my dad and my two young sons for breakfast, and while the food was good, the service was mediocre and our bill got mixed up with another customers'. I let the server know that it wasn't correct because we hadn't been charged for everything we ordered. He traded tickets with the table next to us and returned with a bill for $94.43 which included a 20% gratuity and roughly 10% tax. I generally tip graciously, but with the level of service we received and the fact that the tip was already included, I left with an uneasy feeling about the value of our overall experience this time around. read more

Their donut is one of the best I've had in years- Not too sweet, just right and amazing texture and chewy in an airy/fluffy kind of way. In addition to my pleasant experience with a simple donut, what I really want to do is compliment their staff on this Sunday visit. (And my visit from last week Sunday.) The staff on duty are so friendly and have lovely positive demeanor. I know the reality of working in food service industry which can make any person dread working in. We first tried Royal Donut Cafe by chance a couple weeks ago, and we're already repeat customers! Last week we planned to eat down the street but the other cafe did not have a restroom so we left. We walked over to Royal Donut Cafe: it was open and had a customer restroom, score! We sat indoors and had excellent food and customer service. On our first visit, we split a veggie breakfast croissant sandwich with a side of fresh fruit and a cake donut, coffee and decaf to drink. I craved the sandwich the whole week after so we returned for more on my next day off. This time we ordered the same croissant sandwich with hash browns and a lox bagel. In town for a medical convention and decided to adventure outside of the hotel. I always check reviews before going to any establishment. This place had pretty good ratings so I gave it a try. The waitress was very friendly and responsive to customers in spite of being a darn near one woman show. She was running the front register with to go orders and waiting on all of the tables in the restaurant. She was very quick to take my order and I did not wait more than 8-10 minutes for my order to arrive. The omelette was pretty good, I had to add a little salt and pepper which was not a big deal. Cafe wasn't the easiest to find; this was my second choice location for brunch with my bf after realizing my first choice was closed for Easter Sunday. Lady at the cash register asked what we wanted. We asked if they had a restroom, and she said "yes". So we told her we wanted to order for brunch before standing there for another 5 minutes staring at a breakfast menu we found at the counter. I ordered the lox Benedict (smoked salmon) and my bf ordered the Betsy omelet (hash brown was selected as the side, we weren't asked to choose type of toast). After we paid at the cash registered, we were offered between dine in or to go. We selected a table. The tables were nicely isolated with clear plastic! Onto the food!-- Lox benedict with hashbrowns: poached egg was almost cooked thoroughly, only 25% of the yolk was runny. A small amount of hollandaise sauce sat solidly on top the egg, seemed more like a cream cheese consistency. The salmon seemed as if it were cooked... the English muffins were nice and crispy though! Perhaps they chucked the entire thing into an oven? Hashbrowns were good though. Betsy's omelet with hashbrowns and white toast- chicken and mushrooms. I can make better omelets as a kid. Chicken is drier than a 3 day old microwaved Costco rotisserie left over chicken. Bland and flavorless. Bf scarfed it down with copious hot sauce. I didn't fight him over it. Summary: + restroom was presentable and I did get to use it! + food came reasonably quick, within 10 mins + crispy hash browns + staff wore masks - minimal service - brunch food was disappointing In hindsight, I should have read the reviews first. I came here for Saturday with a few friends. The place was busy but there was no line. I ordered the waffle with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream. It was delicious and appropriately priced ($9). My friends all ordered egg dishes that also looked great and had a lot of food. Service was good.
