This will be short and quick. Forget Popeye's; drive right past Chic-fil-A; don't even count Hardee's, Burger King, KFC, Bojangles or McDonald's as a contender..:.this $5 chicken sandwich from Royal Farms is hands down, the undisputed champion of the CHICKEN SALAD BATTLE! Period.

Loads of people talk about this place surprising. I usually pass royal farms alot but we never usually stop. When we did today i was excited to see what everyone loved so much about it. They have a good selection of things but they are a little pricey..... The restaurant part was pretty cool. They have a computerized area to place your order then you can watch them make it. The food was decent but also quite expensive. The store is clean and a friendly environment overall. The place was filled with nice workers making your experience 2x pleasurable. I got a rewards card so I definitely will be returning!!

I always pass by Royal Farms when i go out of town. So i found one near me and finally stopped to try it. I hear their chicken is pretty good. When we got there it wasn't crowded and the gas prices were pretty decent. The store was clean and the employees were all nice. The cashier helped me at self checkout because i was trying to sign up for rewards. You can't do that at the register she said, but you can download the app to start earning rewards. The prices are pretty reasonable in the store and they have a good selection. Very comparable to Wawa. They also carry Krispy Kreme donuts!! There is a checkout line with a cashier and 2 or 3 self checkout registers for your convenience. Pretty easy to navigate. I wanted to try the chicken. So i got the breast and wing meal with mac n cheese and potato wedges with cheese. It cost $18 for this chicken... What the cluck? Lol. The breast was seasoned and actually pretty good. The wings were to tough to chew. Maybe they had sit out to long. So when i informed the manager he was very nice and absolutely willing to resolve the issue. He gave me a few spicy tenders which were freshly cooked in exchange. I was pleased with that. The tenders are a decent size and tasted pretty good. I'm glad i tried them. They are spicy so get the regular ones if spicy isn't your friend!! The Chesapeake sauce which has ole bay in it was good with the chicken, the bbq sauce was good to. The wedges didn't look anywhere close to the ones i saw online. They are not crispy at all. But they did have good flavor. A few of the thick ones were slightly undercooked. My sister got a biscuit which she said was good. The mac n cheese is pretty much Stouffer's frozen mac. But i still liked it. Add a little salt and pepper and your good to go. I would eat their chicken again. But i would probably get the breast or thigh, no wings. Or the tenders. There's also an area to dine in if you'd like, on the side. I like the store and the staff. I am sure I'll return...

First time this location and probably have only been to a few Royal Farms ever. They are known for their fried chicken, but all I needed was fuel and a wash and did not enter the store, nor have any staff interaction. The store presents nicely and is big, bright and fresh. I assume the store is newer. The parking lot is huge on the three island 12 pump gas station. This makes it easy to maneuver which is great! A lot of debris was spotted on the periphery. Trash cans were within their boundaries. None of the pumps had wash or towels. However, they strangely all had squeegees. The pump I used was clean and processed my card promptly. Fuel pumped quickly and a receipt generated with a discounted car was for $14 for their best wash. That's still pricey in my book. There are nearby air pumps. The car wash is located behind the store. There is lots of room to maneuver and when lines form space for several cars with no problem. A trash can prior to entering is a good idea. Everything was clean and maintained. My code work med first try. The wash promptly started was done with drive-thru dryer within approximately 5 minutes. This quick timing seemed surprising for the best wash. There is pay for vacuum service. Once done I parked and inspected. It seemed like a better wash than some. However their was still a light dirty residue on the rear window. Also with no paper towel available I could not wipe off side mirrors.

Royal Farms World famous fried chicken. I no longer fry chicken and substitute this for mine. There secret is OUT. haa haa haaa!

Easy fast friendly quick fried chicken dinner with potato wedges. We picked up Cole slaw from Harris teeter. It was like I clicked my heels and dinner was on the table.

UPDATING: There is a lot of hype around this place because it's new... As far as the inside goes, it's new and shiny and they have a bunch of promotions and free stuff, which brings a lot of folks in. But... Every time I go in, the employees are miserable and don't seem to know what's going on. One girl who makes the coffee told me that she had no training they just stuck around the coffee and told her to brew it... She was very confused and she was on the verge of tears. Their self checkout is a joke and the lines don't make sense. For their rewards program... They want your full name, full checking account information, your address, phone number, email address, drivers license number, and the last four of my social security. Are you kidding me? That does not seem like a reasonable amount of information to save $0.10 per gallon. I have tried six times now... Not joking, six times... To try to register for their rewards program and every single time there app or website errors out and won't allow me to. I went home and tried to register the card over the phone and that worked... So then I logged in to discover that their rewards program only applies once you sign up for their payment program using your checking account. Yes, this place is clean... their employees are miserable and their rewards program is a gimmick for them to collect and sell your information. Sorry, not doing it. I'll drive a little further and get the same gas price as their "discount" just down the street. ---- Today was our first trip here because they JUST opened - three days ahead of schedule! I can dig that. I like it when people are early. We stopped to fill up gas and were pleasantly surprised to learn that you can save 10¢ per gallon all the time for being a rewards member... but you don't just earn rewards on gas! You earn rewards and get discounts on food (and cigarettes, if that's your thing), too! BONUS: when you sign up for rewards, you save 25¢ per gallon for the first 30 days! You can sign up on their app OR go inside and get a physical card, if that's your jam. The gas pump and payment system worked great, no issues with the pump or redeeming rewards. We went inside but I didn't get a chance to buy anything this time around. Being opening day, they were jam packed! I sat back and took some photos and watched them work for a little bit and was impressed that they were well-staffed, very friendly, and their deli area seemed VERY quick! I look forward to coming back to try their accolade-worthy chicken!

Finally had the chance to review this location after going here several times. Love the breakfast options and the ability to grab and go. The chicken tastes great, but not a big fan of the sides such as the Mac and cheese that lacks flavor. Great $1 fountain drink option. Love the rewards prices with the cheap gas. Glad they finally have one close to home. Will continue to visit to fill up as much as possible.

Royal Farms what can I say about them,oh how could I forget..let me start off by saying this establishment rocks if fried chicken is your food of choice. It's very convenient to order because all you have to do is walk up to the kiosk look for your food of choice and put your order in confirm it and go to the register, the hardest part is having to pay for it but when you indulge it's well worth the money you spent. I forgot to mention they have spicy chicken tenders ( which I forgot to mention is my favorite ) so if you're looking for a snack, looking to grab a bite to eat for lunch or looking to pick up dinner for your family ( I forgot to mention you can order sides too ),this is a place to consider.

Dried up chicken. Thanks Royal Farms.

I figured the manager would have fixed the problems from the last time. Unfortunately the food and service is still terrible. I will no longer return. So the first thing wrong, there were no chicken tenders. My friend really wanted some. None. No sign saying there wasn't. So I went to pay and my friend said there's no tenders. So then I had to wait for the cashier to take that off of the receipt. Next we asked for fresh chicken. They said it was fresh they just put it on the line 30 minutes prior. That isn't fresh to me. Think of it like this. Ok so it's already 30 minutes old, I gotta drive to my house. I'll get in my house about 15 mins later. So the chicken is now 45 minutes old. I sit down it's now 50 minutes old. I also received macaroni and cheese and it was old and gross. The hash brown I ordered was a nightmare. I couldn't even break it apart. I took a bite and spit it back in the bag. It was NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Macaroni was burnt forgot to say that earlier. I wasn't rude to anyone. I'm a chef. I didn't feel like cooking and now I have to get food else where. Oh and please change the grease. Oh and the tall boy with the glasses and the girl with half black and blue hair get rid of them. Also the guy cooking in the back was eating and drinking while cooking. A BIG NO NO.

    Undercooked chicken
    David H.

I'm not usually the kind to leave bad reviews but I had to on this one. The employees here totally suck and don't care. The cook was so filthy tonight I think I'm calling the health department tomorrow. 1st time I tried this location my sister brought some home and it was way to salty like drinking the ocean. Second time it tasted like old grease. I figured what the heck let's try it one more time. Tonight. Well I had undercooked chicken, it tasted Like old grease and the mashed potatoes were microwaved right in front of me. All of it tasted like crap. Not to mention I paid $23 for shit chicken meal and dirty people working in the kitchen. I did not feel like driving back so lessened learned. Well I tried them three times, so three strikes and they are out. Oh and they have a sign that says they sell breakfast burritos and the staff said they don't sell them. Go figure. Here is the pic of the chicken none of it edible I will stick to Popeyes!!!

I haven't been to a Royal Farms in years!!! And when I've been, it's only to get gas and 5-hr energy drinks for my long drives on Route 13. Alas, there's one on the border of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach and I finally got the chance to try their famous fried chicken. I have to say it's very flavorful but I was missing the crunchy factor. My mom really enjoyed it because she said she was able to bite right into it, but personally, I like super crunchy bits on my fried chicken. I thought it was just a little bit salty but its okay. Better than being under seasoned and dry. Order on the computer screen, take your printed receipt to the self check out register to pay and wait for your number to be called when they're finished getting your food together. If you're not here for the fried chicken, they serve other convenient hot foods and breakfast all day, I believe. All the drinks, coffee and self serve milkshake stations are in the far left corner. My favorite was the ICEE machine! There's a couple tables inside and outside to enjoy your quick meal. Over all, a decent and clean one stop shop! Hope they open more in the area... It'll give Wawa a run for its money!

Excellent location with great chicken. The touch screens work great for ordering their fantastic chicken. You quickly forget you are at a gas station. Plenty of options to pay so you can be on your way.

    3 wing lunch
    Kurt S.

I have had good chicken at convenience stores in Hawaii. Thought I'd try this one since it was close. I chose the 3 wing lunch with fries and a waffle instead of the biscuit. The waffle and chicken were really good. The potato wedges were ok. I could really taste the oil in them. Everything was automated from the ordering to the register. So if you don't like talking to people, this is the place for you. lol I do like the chicken and will return.

Parking is plentiful as it's in a strip mall, and we were able to self seat a party of 7 with no problem at all on a Saturday evening. The service was doing their best, but they definitely could use one or two more employees because the person making all the desserts (and there was a line JUST for take out dessert orders- because it's that good) was also the same one that needed to take our orders before we could sit down. I felt bad for her because she was working really hard on two very busy stations. The ambience is super casual so no need to dress up. So now lests get to the star of the show. This is the best chicken sandwich out and I'll put it up against anyone I've had anywhere. Well seasoned, tender, perfectly fried. The buns were potato bread so super soft, the sauces are fantastic and the variety of sandwiches is just enough to have a good amount of options. The fries are also delicious. À la carte so they are sold separately, but the portion makes it worth it because THEY ARE NOT STINGY! Flavor packed and great value for the cost. Last but not least the homemade custard is TOP TIER. Best I've had since i left Jersey back in the day. This place just took the top spot for chicken sandwiches for me and i can't eat to try more flavors.

Placing all judgment aside based purely on the aesthetic environment, this place makes some slamming soy garlic chicken and some tasty fries! That's all you need to know. Service was pleasant and the one gentleman seemed to be hustling bringing out people's food to their tables or calling out their numbers. The lady at the register kept the line moving. It wasn't busy when we initially ordered, but then there was an influx of customers out of nowhere! Initially I thought the price was kind of steep for 6 pieces of chicken but then I saw the size and they are huge! I added a side of fries and a drink and it came to a total of $17 and some change. If you dine in there are free refills. One of my friends came back to our table with a mini cup of ice cream. Apparently they have a freezer of ice cream and popsicles that are complimentary! So that was a nice added touch! They offer military discounts! Just show your ID! I asked. Not too soon after, I heard a gentleman that had purchased food prior to me comment out loud that he wish he knew that earlier. I just always try to ask wherever I go, the worst they can say is no. ‍ I don't go to Chesapeake often, but if i'm ever out this way, I would definitely stop by again. The entrance is a bit confusing when driving up. While it faces the main street of Battlefield Blvd you have to turn at the traffic light and go behind another building that's adjacent to it, just make sure you don't overshoot and miss the turn. This place seemed to have a lot of not so great reviews or were a mixed bag, but I figured it was at the point of I'm just going to figure this out myself and experience it. I'm glad I did.

I hadn't eaten there in over five years, so I was hoping the food was still as good as I remembered. My visit was on a Friday evening, around 6:00 or 6:30 PM. The dining room was relatively quiet, with only two other customers present, and I was immediately greeted upon walking in. I asked the cashier about the new menu item, the "Lamb Chops." He described them as pan-fried, noting that an order includes two to three nice-sized chops and comes with two sides. I decided to order the lamb chops to go, selecting the arroz chaufa (fried rice) which was a $1 upcharge and plantains as my sides. I was extremely disappointed when I opened my order and found that I had been served lamb shoulder for $18 and not the lamb chops I expected (typically rib or loin chops). To add to my disappointment the quality of the Lamb was very poor; it was tough, contained an excessive amount of connective tissue and fat, and was ultimately inedible. I ended up having to throw the entire portion away. The arroz chaufa also had inconsistent quality. While the flavor was good, the texture varied significantly, with parts being mushy and overcooked, and others remaining hard and undercooked. The Plantains were cut too thick and were also undercooked. Given the cost and the expectation associated with "Lamb Chops," I was extremely unhappy with my meal. I believe the cut of meat served was misrepresented, falsely advertised and the quality was unacceptable. I certainly cannot recommend this item to others and regret not ordering the chicken, which I know your restaurant prepares well.
