I wanted to get breakfast with a friend and he recommended this spot. This is definitely a more down-to-earth spot and the menu is really simple. The waitress was super friendly and you could tell this was a local joint for the older crowd (older I mean Baby Boomers and older era). I had a hot chocolate, cinnamon roll, and the 3 eggs, hashbrowns and bacon plate w/ toast. My eyes were more greedy than my stomach so I couldn't finish it all. It was very decently priced too since my total alone was no more than $15 (with the breakfast, cinnamon roll and hot chocolate) with tax (can't remember if that included tip or not). My friend and I just spent a week on vaca in the Seattle area. We came here on our first day for bfast and ate there every day but one. I will say, each day we tried something different and was never disappointed in the food. Sandy and Stacy our two waitresses where incredibly nice, helpful and made us feel right at home as if we were regulars. Stacy was full of laughs and Sandy was just a joy to talk to. Honestly suprised to see this place is still open. I went there a couple years ago. I asked for no dairy in my food and the waitress nearly had a heart failure over it. When I told her I was allergic she says she never heard of such a thing and tsked me. People really do have food allergies and anyone in the food industry needs to be kinder about this. Had my first visit here today on a beautiful sunny Saturday! The place is clearly very old but nonetheless so very charming. It definitely has an old hostorically rich feel to it and 60% of the guest were regulars who knew the servers and each other which is adorable. Don't go here to eat! Was debating going here for breakfast because of the appearance. But decided to try it out because sometimes these hole in the wall diners have amazing food even if their physical appearance is a bit outdated. The food was just okay. The service was bad. There was only one server helping the 8 tables seated and we had to ask for help for everything, waited 10 minutes for silverware, never got refilled on water or coffee, and had to leave cash because we waited 10 minutes with our card and the check on our table. On top of all of that both of men's and women's bathrooms were disgusting. The men's had puke splattered on the walls, and the women's had flies and smelled like someone had just smoked a cigarette inside. After seeing how dirty the bathrooms were it made us wonder about the cleanliness of the rest of the place including our food :( I would recommend skipping this place. read more

We came in today for breakfast, and it had been awhile, but we use to have great times here. We sat down ordered coffee and received it in a timely manner. But nothing to stir the sugar and cream. Few minutes later we had to ask for silverware and received it. At that time we also put the order in and we thought would be quick. The waitress then took another order right behind us and we thought we were good. Long story short, the two gentlemen behind us received their food in less than 10 minutes and we didn't receive her food for a total of 45 minutes. and we witness the server putting food into the microwave to cook. Food was horrible and not cooked all the way, we had to get it to go because we had somewhere to be, and when asking the server what happened, there is no explanation of why the food took so long and came out the way it did. Besides another 1 top, there are no other customers in there. Evidently the server could care less. This kind of bums me out because we used to like going there. read more

We're Rubattino's fans. The waitresses are either downright rude or fabulously friendly, depending on who's working. The cooks vary in quality. However, on a good day, your waitress will be the incredible Sandy, 76, and moving like a sprinter, paired with the cranky, interesting looking cook. The food is quite good. They only serve breakfast and lunch and close at two. The adjoining bar, however, is open till late night. It has a juke box and a sometimes unruly crowd, real Renton history is made here. Renton was a coal town, and many of the habituees of Rubattino's look like old miners. Beards, rough looks, rough clothes, rough language. The establishment is 98 years old and on its second owner. The decor has not been updated much, but it's clean and well maintained. (Well, then there are the bathrooms...). The barflies periodically spill over into the restaurant to eat or comment and it makes for a textured atmosphere. For those of us who shun plastic chain restaurants, Rubattino's is a multi-star collector's item. Relax. Have a sense of humor and some curiosity. And eat some good food without paying much. read more

We walked down there the morning for breakfast, really not knowing what to expect. Wow! Were we surprised on how friendly the staff was and delicious everything tasted! I had the Denver Omlit and my wife had the Belgian Waffle and when were finished there wasn't an ounce of food left. We were also taken back on how cheap the prices were. This place has always piqued our interest, especially as vintage motel owners. We love the bar seating and some of our motel walls have the same patterned wallboard as Rubattino's has! We read the reviews and they weren't that promising, so we were a little sheepish for that reason, plus we brought friends who we didn't want to disappoint. Our friends noticed immediately that the public health rating on the window was EXCELLENT. We sat down in a tiny little booth and got a super friendly blonde waitress who got us coffee and menus right away. Our order was taken soon after we arrived and our food came quickly. Our waitress revisited the perfect amount of times for coffee refills. With this place being very old school, I think the first thing I did when we arrived was joke under my breath "What are your dairy free, gluten free, egg free options" because there are places you just know not to ask that of. However, when my buddy asked for no onions in a dish, it wasn't a problem so they have some flexibility. The food was really very good. My friend from the South loved the potatoes, and she knows comfort food! The pancakes were excellent and everyone really enjoyed their breakfast. We're looking forward to coming back! read more

Sought out a bar on a Friday night to shoot some pool and forget about my troubles. Kellyanne, the bartender on shift, did a great job. Always asking if I needed anything but also letting my enjoy my time there. There seemed to be some regulars that might have been too comfy with their surroundings because they got loud and said things you don't normally hear people say. She did a great job at deflecting the conversation and possible arguments between the patrons. I had some drinks, and can't remember what else happened that night. read more

I've lived in Renton over 15 years, driven past Rubattino's dozens (hundreds?) of times. The sign over the door reads "Fine Dining" and I've read claims for "Best Breakfast in Renton" So why did I just make my first visit? The front of Rubattino's made the place look a bit sketchy. I was judging this book by it's cover. Once inside my impression was dated, but clean, a bit haggard, but neat. I went on a Tuesday morning. The place was full of regulars. Our server, Sandy, was very nice and helpful. She warned us that if we wanted our eggs over easy we should order over medium because the cook working that day had a different interpretation of over easy. The best advice I got all day. My friend and I both ordered eggs, meat (sausage patty for me, bacon for her), hash browns and toast. Good grub, no complaints at all. As we were leaving the place was filing up. Sandy would greet the regulars and call in their order to the kitchen before they had sat down. I hope I find a place like that at some point in my life. Fine Dining? Nah. Comfy dining with decent breakfast in downtown Renton? You bet!! 3 stars doesn't seem enough and 4 stars is probably too high. I'm going with 4 stars because Rubattino's could use more customers. For a place that's been in Renton since 1917 (according to Sandy) I have no reservations tossing half a star Rubattino's way. I'll be back!! read more

I'm on a TDY assignment for the past several months and staying in Renton. Rubattino's has become my Sunday morning ritual for a great breakfast. Sandy and Sarah make it a welcoming and comfortable place. Being used to a hearty southern breakfast and able to find one here.... Not quite like home, but as close as I can find here. The plates /servings are large. Bacon, biscuits-n-gravy, bacon, eggs, bacon, sourdough toast and good coffee. Oh yeah, and bacon. This was the first time we stopped by this diner for breakfast. I heard their hashbrowns were very good. I will say they were pretty good but we waited at least an hour and a half for them. While waiting my husband ran home to Newcastle to pick up something he forgot. The food still hadn't arrived by the time he got back, we waited at least another fifteen minutes or so. There was only one waitress in the restaurant and she made sure we all knew she could only do so much. No decaf, you'll have to wait to give your order, and wait to pay your bill. When she finally took our order she mumbled under her breath "oh no that's Debbie and Brad, (not their real names) Ugh." As a couple entered the dining room. When I ordered our eggs over easy, she asked if we like our eggs slimy. What, slimy I didn't know that was an option. When I said no, she said then order them over medium. We also noticed other guests leaving some before and some after they ordered. The waitress also stated to another couple the restaurant was 101 years old. When I went to use the restroom I could see that the restaurant was at least 101 years old. The floor was wet and the restroom smelled bad. The waitress while trying to run credit cards was yelling about someone being on the phone so she couldn't finalize the transactions. For being 101 years in operation you'd think they'd be better at it than this. Over all a really poor experience, even if their food was amazing (which it wasn't) we wouldn't go back. read more

Introduced to this dive (meant in the best possible way, just being honest) 40+ years ago when my Pops took me for breakfast before a day of shopping in Renton. Have returned off and on over the past 20 years for breakfast, usually Saturday morning. Do you think they recognize me? Not a chance. Lots of drinking goes on here and a few brain cells have been sacrificed. Seriously, this place hasn't been updated in forever. On my past several visits I walked into the place around noon to an empty joint. Except, the staff were all gathered together near the kitchen with the cook holding court. In unison, everyone turned to stare in amazement at me! Again in unison, I was informed the place was CLOSED! I asked why the sign said OPEN and the door unlocked? I was sternly told the place was closed. I got the message and probably won't return for awhile. Ownership and staff turnover have plagued this place. Hopefully it returns to its comfort origins or ends its run. Only time will tell. Oh yeah, if you've read this far you should know, the place is cash only, no plastic ... quaint. read more

I ate at this little greasy spoon in Renton today for the first time. The server, a woman named Lisa, was fantastic. Cheerful, friendly, quick and attentive. It really made an impression! The food was fine, the decor was Reno, Nevada circa 1981 but the service made this my new favorite place in Renton. What a difference a smile and friendly courtesy make in a dining experience! I get all nostalgic in a classic dive and this one hit the mark. We only had a couple shots in the Owl Room, but the service was friendly and speedy and the regulars were openly welcoming. I finally was able to get to Rubattino's restaurant section on a day off when they weren't closed. Last time I was here 4 years ago, only the bar was open, and I couldn't get excited about that section. So I didn't know what to expect, since I hadn't eaten here since around 1970. Well, except for minor remodeling of the front booth area it was just what I remembered. The place is old, but clean. I bellied up to the counter, and the waitress gave me the menu right away, and explained a note that was on it about things not available. She mentioned just what I was interested in, namely chicken fried steak. I also ordered coffee (man, coffee is sure expensive these days), and the waitress was quite solicitous about keeping it filled. So I got away with a big chicken fried steak with white gravy, hash browns (not the shoestring kind, but very nice), and 2 eggs over easy. All was tasty. The chef is a big Seahawks fan, and we were able to enthuse about last night's drubbing of the 49'ers. There just aren't any places like this any more. There's still hope for the country as long as Rubattino's is still operating. Got out with coffee and dinner for $15 including tip, and I am way too full. Look, show up to this place and eat like real working people. If you read this before Dec 25, they're open on Christmas till 3. You can't go wrong, and you will support real Renton people. read more
