Had to check out this restaurant since I live in the neighborhood. The cinnamon roll was melt in your mouth. The Romeo and Juliet (guava) pastry was a little tart for me but still good. The biscuits and gravy were really flavorful!! However, my husband breakfast burrito was very basic and not very impressive. The service was exceptional, although we were the only people in the restaurant at the time since it was early morning. The decor inside is tasteful and classic. I came here for brunch today with my husband and our two friends. We live in the neighborhood and were all excited to try it, as we had heard good things. Unfortunately, the excitement wore off pretty quickly. The only positive I would give this place is that the food was decent. I couldn't bring myself to give it two stars though because the food wasn't excellent by any means, and the service was truly abysmal. We had a reservation, and were sat reasonably quickly. We were sat in a table directly in the sun, which we initially didn't say anything about because we didn't know how booked it was, and were hoping the sun would go on the other side of the building soon. It did not. We took turns rotating seats to try to stay out of direct sun, but it was hot. It's so easy to just put up a shade if you have a sunny window, but clearly this is not a priority for them. The amount of time it took for us to get our drinks and food ordered was unacceptable. It was obvious there were only a few waiters so maybe they were understaffed, however it isn't a big place and the tables never filled up completely. When the waiter finally came back with 1/4 of our drinks, we had to remind him of our other drinks. The wait for drip coffee was crazy. We had to settle for drip coffee because their espresso machine had apparently just broken. My friend ordered a juice, which they also did not have. We had to ask the waiter if we could order our food before he walked away again, because he was so slow. I noticed he took the table's order two tables down from us first, and delivered their drinks first, even though they were clearly sat after us. My friend and I went up to look at the pastries, as they apparently won an award of some sort. We picked out two pastries and placed the order with the waiter along with the rest of our food. He comes back later to tell us they are out of those pastries, which was not surprising given how slow he was. I'm sure another table was able to get them before us. We were pretty frustrated by everything at this point, and hoped we could at least move out of the sun. We asked to move to an empty table in the shade and we were told no, because they were about to seat someone there. He offered us a table right next to the DJ booth, which we declined because we figured we would not be able to hear each other talk. I'm not sure if it was the manager or the hostess, but I saw her ask our waiter if we were doing okay. I couldn't tell what the waiter said back to her, but needless to say they had opportunities to make up for their shortcomings and failed completely. As I mentioned before, there was nothing wrong with the food but it's certainly not worth going through this experience again. We will not be back. read more

Really loved discovering this little spot! A friend of mine recently moved into the neighborhood and wanted to check it out. I'm sure on a weekend, it's probably a lot busier, but it has a classic diner vibe. We got a mix of donut holes, which came out hot from the fryer, and we were able to get both dipping sauces and both were delicious. My eggs Benedict was tasty; the eggs were cooked perfectly and the croissant was fluffy and crunchy. The potatoes were so good - I loved that they were a mix of yellow, purple, and red potatoes. I had been wanting to check out this place for awhile! I was finally in the area and checked it out! It's in Park Hill near Central Park! Their smashed breakfast potatoes were SO delicious, hearty, and plentiful! I also ordered toasted sesame waffle and some chicken sausage with black coffee. I sat at the counter. There was plenty of restaurant seating both indoor and outdoor. Warm smiles were received from the staff as well as friendly conversation. It was early morning and not too busy yet. I loved the sun coming into the restaurant and shining on my food on the counter. It feels spacious inside with a coffee cafe walkup area as well as the seated area. Was sending stuff out at the post office and thought I would give this new spot a try. I was very happy I did. The place has a mod feel to it and has table seating inside and out. There is also one large community table in the center. Staff is friendly and gave the right amount of space to enjoy the meal. My breakfast order was delicious (tried the traditional American with a biscuit), had an iced Americano and a fresh squeezed juice. Not sure what spices they place into the potatoes but they were delicious. The pastry display shouldn't be skipped. Ended up taking home fresh made donut holes and some of their other pastries. Had one after dinner and it was delicious. It also has a bar with a decent number of offerings and speciality cocktails. I didn't have any on this visit. I hope to see this place thrive as the atmosphere and food are great. I asked the waiter and they said weekends get very busy so be prepared for a crowd then but it makes for a nice low key weekday spot to go to with friends or even alone. read more

The pastries were gorgeous and flew out of the case. I arrived for our reservation and there was one pistachio croissant left. I had my eye on it and had every intention on getting it but the person in front of the got it and it was the last one. So sad! The Bloody Marys were good and the food was good too. Good shoes, good food! We came one morning after driving by it frequently. I'm a sucker for a cute midcentury diner. The interior is beautifully done. We stepped in on a cold morning, where it was half empty. From the greeting, it seems like reservations are required? So, I'd get one to be on the safe side. We ended up getting a seat at the empty bar and ordering a vanilla latte while looking over the menu. We ordered the hot chicken sandwich and blueberry buttermilk pancakes. They took a while to arrive but we didn't have anywhere else to be. The coffee came and was excellent, 5/5, one of the best lattes I've had in Denver. The food arrived and the chicken sandwich was amazing. The hot honey was something else 5/5! The pancakes tasted homemade and had great flavor but could have used a little more blueberries 4.5/5 The bartender was wonderful, there was a stressed vibe in the air and so I wonder if more staffing was needed to handle the load and potentially turn over tables quicker. read more

I recently visited this spot for the first time, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Upon letting the waiter know it was our first visit, I began asking questions about the menu, but before I could even finish, he started putting my order in. Even after I mentioned that I wanted to check with my husband first, he proceeded to enter my order. When he came back to me, I informed him I hadn't made my decision yet and needed to figure out my order. He had to go all the way back to the kitchen to cancel it, which was already off to a frustrating start. I also asked the waiter if the chicken sandwich was made with white or dark meat, and he didn't know, so he had to go ask in the kitchen. When he came back, he informed me it was dark meat, so I decided to cancel it and ordered the American breakfast instead.The American breakfast consisted of eggs, your choice of bacon, chicken sausage, or turkey sausage, and either toast or a biscuit. My husband had the same, but with chicken sausage, while I opted for bacon. Unfortunately, the biscuits were cold, served with even colder butter and thawed-out frozen strawberries. My eggs even had pieces of rice in them, which was pretty off-putting. My husband's mushroom gravy was more like watered-down broth than anything else. A few other things added to the disappointment. Since when does a chicken sandwich come with thigh meat instead of breast? And when I was trying to change my order and ask about the menu, the waiter gave me an attitude, almost as if he didn't have time for any of my questions. Also, my husband asked for coffee, and when it came, he had to ask for cream. The server mentioned the cream would take sometime low, and when it finally arrived, he just dropped it on the table with the stirrers. No effort to make the experience feel welcoming or thoughtful. The atmosphere was decent, with a DJ playing music, but honestly, that couldn't make up for the lackluster service and food. When we were finished, the waiter suggested we come back another day for a better experience, which just felt like an excuse for the poor service we received today. It's disappointing, because no matter how new or established a place is, the experience and the quality of food should always be top-notch. There should never be excuses for why something doesn't taste good or why your service isn't up to par. Sadly, I won't be sharing this location as one to dine at. read more

IF you are wanting to go on a Sunday, I strongly suggest reservations. As a walk in, we waited at the hostess stand, for over 30 minutes, with no indication of length of wait, or barely any acknowledgement. The waitstaff paid more attention to us, than the person seating us. I expect to wait for brunch/breakfast/lunch on a Sunday... typically I expect to be informed as the length of wait. The food was good, had the basic breakfast and it still took longer than expected and the dinning room was not full. Were the croissants worth the wait? This was my first and last visit to this restaurant. I had never heard of it and was excited to try it so I drove 45 minutes each way to make the visit with my daughter in a wheelchair. The tables are not that accessible to begin with and rather small so we had to sit in a booth. The space is open and modern so that was a plus! The food and service was horrifying to say the least. The waiter took my drink order and it took nearly 45 minutes to get a mimosa and a latte. He didn't come back to take my food order or come ask how the experience was going. The only food item that was good was the biscuit and peach jam. The wings were not cleaned properly. The wings need to be cleaned, soaked in kosher salt, and re-rinsed before putting the seasoning on them. The eggs were not scrambled softly but fried too hard for my daughter to eat. We both love food & clean our plates but we left it on the plate at the table. I'm very disappointed in the food and service...I would've been happy if this was an upscale soup kitchen where you could pay by donation only. read more

Yum, yum, yum!!! Came for brunch and left stuffed and happy!! We tried the Escargot Chocolate pastry (have it warmed!) and the new Monkey Bread. Both were fabulous. The avocado toast is plenty for a meal and I loved all of the herbs and seasonings they add. The freshness of the cucumbers, the briney pickled onions, the semi-spicy aioli drizzle. Perfection. The two Benedicts and the shakshuka were also on the clean plate club orders. I ordered a side buttermilk pancake and couldn't get to it but the flavor was great on the one bite I had. Their fresh pressed juices are so satisfying, particularly the Carrot one. They also have full a coffee, alcohol and NA bar. There is a great outside patio that I can't wait to visit in the spring. The inside is small and intimate, while the seating areas are cozy booths or tables. No one was cramped together, but I'd highly recommend a reservation. I can't wait to come back! read more

We have come here around 10-12 times and our experience has been pretty consistent. The food is very good and the staff are very friendly without exception. Our major gripe is how long it takes to get food and drinks. No matter how busy it is, you'd better set aside 2-1/2 hours if you plan on eating in. As others have commented, you might request a pastry that you can see in the case, and by the time your server gets around to getting it, it'll be gone. New spot in park hill neighborhood- couldn't find the menu online anywhere (see my pics for the menu!) so took a little of a gamble and was worth it! Food had good flavor, the stand outs were the cheese grits (quite thick and buttery, very good) and the chicken sausage links with the American breakfast. The shakshuka was good, just a very rich/acidic tomato flavor that made it hard to eat a lot of. The fried nann bread was very good and different. Service was good, very friendly. Seems like the servers are still getting bearings on the menu (which fair it's a new spot) and while they all were trying to help I noticed some inefficiency (ex 3 different people asked the table next to us if they needed salt and pepper). Ambiance was great and their patio was perfect and great music. Overall enjoyed this spot and Appriciate that there are a good amount of gluten free options including gf waffles! read more

They are severely understaffed. Both in the kitchen and in the front of the house. We got on the waitlist on Sunday around 12. Took about an hour to sit a party of 3. We sat down, no water no utensils and had to wait 25 minutes just to flag down a server. Who even said "I'm not sure who is serving you but I can relay your order". The server was great and friendly himself. It was also his first day. Then it took about another hour to get our food. The kids pancakes were nothing special, was supposed to come with strawberries and when I asked the host about it who brought our food said "oh not sure why it says that cause strawberries are out of season" okkk then maybe update the menu or simply cross it out. Side note: if you have kids in diapers there is no changing table The breakfast sandwich tasted great. I wish I could've eaten mine but the shashuska came with loads of cilantro, which wasn't listed. The host asked if I wanted anything else and I said we literally don't have time to wait another 45 minutes or hour to get another dish. Especially because we had our toddler with us. She didn't even offer to expedite it to the front of the line. So obviously this made the experience worse. Came hungry, waited 2 hours and left hungry. I also ordered a juice and he warned me their barista is heavily backed up so it might not come in time. It eventually came but if you want coffee, juice or cocktails be prepared. Throughout the rest of our meal our server disappeared (maybe on break but didn't say anything). Had to flagged someone down to get our check. Took another 10 minutes. When (I'm assuming) the owner came to give us the bill she asked how it was I said I wasn't great. Explained the situation and she said "it would be hard to list all the ingredients." In my experience the ingredients that people are allergic or intolerant to are usually listed. A lot of people have the genetic variation where cilantro tastes like soap/ chemicals and cannot eat it, which is why I usually see it listed on the menus everywhere. She gave her spill about why they are understaffed and how it's hard to staff when the city doesn't pay workers enough. But the thing is 100s of other restaurants have figured this out... it's hard for everyone and it is a tough business. Their reservation system might need some working out too. A party of two ahead of me had reservations and it wasn't ready for another 15 minutes. A party of 3 had reservations and it didn't show up in their system. While we waited we got their butter croissant and pumpkin. The only two they had left. They were pretty good but not any different than other bakeries. Would I give this place another shot? Possibly, once they figure out how to smooth their operations. But other than that you can get similar food elsewhere where you don't have to wait an extremely long time. read more

Hoping we can come back and end up having a better experience. We were so excited to come try some place new and drove 15 minutes over here for them to tell us they didn't have any high chairs. No way we were going to try to sit through breakfast with a squirly one year old in our lap so we just grabbed croissants and left. And to top it off the brought out a cinnamon roll with a candle to acknowledge and celebrate the matriarch of my family's 97th birthday. Just a wonderful experience! Despite having a reservation, there was a long line out the door when we arrived. There didn't appear to be a clear system in place-- the hostess was managing seating with what looked like a handwritten notebook, which added to the confusion. When we were finally seated, we were taken to a large communal table in the middle of the floor. Communal seating was not what I had in mind for a Saturday brunch date. The chairs were extremely close together, making private conversation nearly impossible. Ultimately, we decided to leave because it felt too close for comfort. This establishment should clearly advertise its seating arrangements, as communal seating is not appealing or suitable for all guests. read more

Okay the first thing you need to know is the pastries are separate. I believe you could order them to the table, but technically it's a separate thing. You most likely want to order these ahead and pick them up. They are delicious and they are why I'm giving it a four star instead of a three star for the business as a whole. As far as Ruby's good shoes, the concept of the restaurant and the menu are wonderful. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed as the burrito ordered was missing one of the three ingredients that's supposed to come inside and their "green chili" was actually quite red because of so many tomatoes. If a burrito is to have egg meat and potatoes, you'd think it would have potatoes however the two burritos ordered were both missing them at our table and the table directly next to us. The mushroom chicken and waffles is probably quite good if you order comes out right when it's finished and it doesn't sit the mushrooms in my meal had soaked in every ounce of oil and were quite tough to eat. The breading was good. The concept is amazing. The waffle I ordered was the vanilla waffle and it was also probably quite good. Had it been warm however it cooled by the time I received it and it was OK at best. They also forgot to bring the butter and syrup so I had to wait on that making it be even colder. I'm sure than it had been. The restaurant does not seem to be equipped to handle that many people as the seat seating as arranged quite strangely there was a 14 top at the time we were there, and we had gotten our drinks and food food before they did which would have made me think it would've come out warm however it did not . There were many things it seemed that we heard people order that were not on the menu or weren't going to be available for another week or so so that would've been nice to know going in. I'd say maybe order this to take home if you're close, definitely get the pastries and maybe we'll give this one another shot. read more
