In New Orleans for a conference and decided to venture out. Not a huge breakfast person, and when I do I get the basics. This had to be one of the best traditional eggs bacon grits and biscuit i've had in years. I got an iced coffee , or 3, and enjoyed every sip. My waitress Lili was friendly, attentive and hustling. She got extra points for being from Arizona as well. I forgot to pack a belt for my trip and didn't need one when I left. This location is always rocking and you can have a 40-60 minute wait, be sure to use the "wait in line" feature through yelp. Arrived for a late breakfast around 10:30 after a long morning of traveling in from Boston. We were seated immediately in this great corner area with a view of the entire restaurant. Upbeat music and the original Addams Family show were playing. The ceiling fans in the center of the open room kept the space cool, despite the mugginess of the morning from the rain earlier. Our waiter, Tom, was very attentive. He even showed my kiddo where the bathroom was. Kiddo had a cranberry juice, & I ordered the Ruby Slipper Mimosa. The mimosa left a nice buzz after. Definitely happy we're walking while here. I ordered the White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes. Three large pancakes. Kiddo wanted to try them, so I had the white chocolate whiskey sauce on the side. Leave it to me to have a kiddo who isn't a sauce/syrup fan. Ha ha! The pancakes were sweet but not overly so. I was able to drizzle the sauce as needed. Definitely need a sweet tooth for that. Kiddo ordered the children's Cinnamon Swirl Pancake. The order was huge! Two large pancakes & a slice of bacon. The food is good; however on my last visit December 1, 2024 the wait time to get food was horrible. It seemed they were short staff. We ordered two things on the menu to go. A Benedict with shrimp, pork, and chicken, which was good; the shrimp especially was delicious and the eggs were nicely poached. The French toast was not good in terms of bang for your buck. It was about $10 and only came with three half-slices of toast that had some cinnamon on them, maybe one strawberry cut thinly, no maple syrup, nothing else. I was frankly shocked at how little came in that container, and I later saw on an online menu that it was supposed to come with bacon. The person taking my order asked me if I wanted to add bacon, so I assumed the bacon was a separate charge and said no thanks. One thing to note is that there is a long wait for this so I highly recommend joining the waitlist ahead of time and then checking in person (for context, ee were on the waitlist for almost 1 hour before we were seated). This is my fav breakfast spot in NOLA. I try to visit every time I'm here. It can be crazy busy. Tho now being able to join the queue virtually in advance is awesome-- tho don't forget to check in when you get there and affirm you are at the right location! I didn't know they even had other locations until this visit. We went with first available for seats and wound up at the bar. But even tho we don't drink-- it was great! Great service. Good views and people watching. I think the place has a fun vibe. Even signing in early we had about a 20 min wait outside with a HUGE CROWD. It was Easter Sunday so I wasn't that surprised.... There was a server selling alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to everyone waiting so that was a boon! Wait for food after ordering was not bad at all considering how busy they were. The trifecta was fab! Everything was super tasty with one exception. The grits were super dry. They had a crusty skin on top and a huge nugget of grits that hadn't been stirred enough and glommed together when being cooked. Easter Sunday is a busy day at the Ruby slipper, but one can assume most Sundays are busy here. We put ourselves on the wait list about 25 minutes before we arrived and we seating immediately when we got there around 9:00 on Easter Sunday. We were lucky enough to snag a seat outside for some good people watching and it did not disappoint. For my breakfast I chose the mix and match egg bennies. My favorite out of the two was the shredded pork one, but I also got the one with shrimp and fried green tomato. Both were tasty, but my preference is typically pork. My husband ordered the omelet that comes with 3 eggs and asked if he could add additional eggs to the omelet (for an additional cost of course). Crystal our waitress said she would make the request, but the kitchen put the 2 extra eggs on the side. I'm assuming it's because of how busy they are and the sheer volume of customers that come through. I would argue that the omelet was a bit small and even question if it contained 3 eggs to begin with. There were no complaints in taste though. Crystal was a great and friendly waitress and deserved every cent of her tip. She kept refills flowing and offered me a to go for my coffee. I have been to this restaurant two days in a row. The first day was an orgasmic experience mostly do to the service we received from Tonya. The food and Her excellent service actually made me not want to comeback because I didn't want to have a bad experience the next time. Well the service and food was good it wasn't an experience. Then Tonya just walked by to check on my party and her presence and customer service made it an experience again. If she is not head of the wait staff she should be. Her personality and service is top tier. When I come back no offense to anyone of the staff but I want Tonya every time. I will wait for her service. Although quoted 15-30 mins - we probably waited 5-10. Our waitress was incredibly sweet and attentive despite the huge crowd and chaos (they didn't have as much outside seating so it was very loud inside). I had the hot salmon omelet with a side salad and added a small side of fruit and a house buttermilk biscuit. My husband had their fried green tomato BLT and enjoyed it. Signing up for the waitlist saves so much time! I had a view of Ruby Slipper from my hotel room and could see a crowd of people waiting outside the restaurant to get seated. After putting myself on the list, I waited about an hour, then walked 2 minutes to check in with the hostess. She sat me at the bar right away. Diners who didn't put themselves on the waitlist were being told 80 minutes, but I think it went through quicker than that. As far as the food and service goes, I didn't love it. French toast bites were just okay, I should've just waited for some beignets at my usual place to satisfy my sweet tooth. I ordered the skinny migas, which is the vegetarian version of the dish. I will say the menu is transparent, and they have a dietary menu on their website. One of the guys behind the bar was giving excellent service to everyone and made sure he was available to the customers he was checking out, offering water cups to go and take away containers with a bag and silverware. When the other server was closing my bill, she was quick to say bye after my payment went through. I had to call after her to ask for a to go container. She grabbed it for me quickly and was gone again - a far cry from the other guy working. I came in before work, so I couldn't drink, but the champagne flight and cocktails looked great! There is absolutely no way we could be back in New Orleans and not dine at the Ruby Slipper again. I believe the location we were at last was a little smaller. This location was big, airy, lots of natural light. Plenty of conversation throughout but nothing that prevented you from hearing the person you were seated with. We were greeted by Brandi and asked if we wanted to dine outside or inside at a table or the bar. We opted to sit inside at a table and were seated immediately. Our server, Niye, was pleasant and greeted us with a nice smile. Our meals subsequently came out but we had no silverware. I couldn't get the attention of our server, so I asked another for it along, with the cane butter I had previously requested. Our server brought it over the silverware but had to go back for the cane butter. My meal was cold so I had to send it back. It didn't take long to receive the Costa Rican Breakfast which consisted of two eggs, spicy chorizo sausage, slow-cooked black beans & rice, topped with warm tomato salsa, crispy plantains, and avocado. I must say I enjoyed the meal but was disappointed with service from Niye or her mood change after mentioning my food was cold. I would have expected her to come back to see if all was well, she didn't and I would have expected her to see if we needed or wanted anything else prior to handing us the bill, she didn't. I pride myself on giving great tips and often go over but this was one of those rare times, I could not, based on the service we received towards the end. I'm sure I'll return to the Ruby Slipper but my hopes would be that each person is trained on being their best at customer service. read more

Years ago, The Ruby Slipper was a must-visit every time I came to New Orleans. It was part of the tradition, and I always looked forward to it. After being away since before COVID, I finally made it back to NOLA and couldn't wait to return to a place I once loved -- but sadly, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The service was awful. I was told by the woman at the bar that my order would be ready in "5 more minutes" -- yet I ended up waiting over 45 minutes past the original pickup time. During that wait, they completely forgot my drinks, and when they finally remembered, it felt like they still took forever to make them, as if I hadn't already been standing there all that time. When I finally received my order, it was a mess. The iced coffee had that awful "refrigerator" taste (if you know, you know), and the food was both cold and burnt -- something I didn't even know was possible, but here we are. On top of that, the to-go order was missing items, the bag broke, food spilled, and the coffee leaked everywhere. The entire experience left me completely frustrated and honestly sad, because this used to be a favorite. Unfortunately, after this visit, I won't be returning.
