Navid was our server and he was so attentive and awesome. The food was great - I got the hot honey chicken sandwich. It's a busy breakfast place but it's not loud or overwhelming.
Firstly, I want to mention that there was a mouse running around the establishment. I understand that the surrounding area is dense and old, which increases the chances of mice breeding. However, I still think its on the restaurant to maintain a clean and safe environment. Service was great! It was the first place I ate in and I could really feel the Southern Hospitality. Food was just okay. The french toast bites tasted like straight sugar if you're into that. I had the Trifecta and only the Bayou Shrimp Benedict was worth writing about. The cochon and chicken benedicts were bland. The biscuits for all 3 were soggy.
Visiting Ruby Slipper today with my wife, we hoped for a pleasant meal to beat the heat, but our experience was disappointing and marred by subtle racism. Upon being seated, I took out my bandana to wipe off sweat, and our waiter, immediately singled me out, commenting, "Ya'll from California," as if to highlight my appearance. While we exchanged some small talk, the service quickly revealed unequal treatment: our coffee was served in plain paper cups, whereas nearby white couples and families received proper ceramic mugs. When our food arrived--a banana foster French toast with eggs over easy and bacon, plus the trifecta--the bacon was missing. After waiting 20 minutes with no resolution, we finished what was served, paid, and left without addressing the issue further. This combination of dismissive behavior, unequal service, and incomplete order made for a frustrating experience. This will be our first and last visit to Ruby Slipper.
I was looking for a breakfast spot and walked into this place. Looks like the Ruby Slipper is a chain. I saw a handful of them within a couple blocks. I didn't like the seating at the one closest to the hotel, but this one wasn't that much further, in terms of walking distance. They offer seating both inside and outdoors. There's counter seating in the center with tables surrounding it. The place was crowded, but I still found a table off to the side to the left. I could see the small kitchen in the back from where I was seated. This place is popular. I ordered the Truck Latte ($5) and Mota's that started out at $12.75, but ended up costing $2 more because every additional recommendation David G made cost $1 (Add Coubion, $1 + Add Pico De Gallo, $1), which is what I noticed about New Orleans. My food and drink tasted fine. I probably didn't really need all the extras. He did offer to fill my latte cup with coffee, but I didn't take him up on that offer because that sort of defeats the purpose of ordering a latte. Service was overall friendly and efficient. As I was looking around though, I was wondering what letter grade they would have if they were in Los Angeles.
It was a busy Sunday morning and a quick walk from our hotel. We we wee are at quickly once specified outside. Service was kind and quick. Food was delicious and atmosphere was nice. Food options were great and the location on canal st was perfect for a stop in and scenic views of the city outside of right outside of bourbon. Loved the size of there beignets for a quick appetizer.
Ruby Slipper is this fun, chaotic cafe that offers a very unique take on NOLA cuisine. Located just off of Canal Street, this establishment is very easy to find. Once inside, you will see a spacious environment with tables all over the place, plus a nice central counter space. What they offer is their own brand of Americana. There are really a lot of choices on their menu and all of them are very well prepared and tasty. The have food to fulfill all palettes and dietary desires. One of the fun things about this cafe is their staff. From my experience, they are all super high energy and really take care of their customers. The one thing I will say, again from my experience(s), is that they are all a bit of an up-seller. For example, when you are ordering, whatever it is you want from their menu, they will suggest something like putting avocado on it. "That's how I like it," they will say. Or, they may suggest something else. The one thing that they do not tell you is that every addition, no matter how small, will cost you. So, just keep that in mind as you meal may end up costing you more than expected. This is a very popular restaurant. With this, sometimes the staff can be stretched a little thin. This, though there are a lot of them. Just keep that in mind as during rush hours, you may have a bit of a wait. Overall, great place to get a good meal.
This place is a must stop and experience for incredible food and service. All the food and drinks were amazing and unforgettable.
Had a great brunch experience at Ruby Slipper. The food was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we hoped for when visiting a New Orleans brunch spot. The menu offers plenty of creative Southern inspired options, and everything we ordered was well prepared. Marvin was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with a fun New Orleans vibe that made the meal even more enjoyable. The only reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5 is the restaurant's inflexible substitution policy. I wanted to substitute for a single pancake, but that wasn't an option. It's a small issue, but a little more flexibility with simple substitutions would go a long way toward improving the customer experience. Overall, I'd definitely return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality brunch in New Orleans.
Rudy's Slipper was a fun brunch stop, and while the Benedict was solid, the fried green tomatoes were definitely the star of the show! I tried The Peacemaker, which lets you mix and match two Benedict options: Chicken St. Charles Benedict :Fried chicken breast served over a buttermilk biscuit with two poached eggs. I'll admit, I was nervous because I am NOT a poached egg person, but I'm so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone. The egg was cooked perfectly, and the whole dish came together really well. Bayou Shrimp Benedict :Gulf shrimp with pork tasso and Creole tomato sauce served over poached eggs and fried green tomatoes. Unfortunately, this one wasn't my favorite. The Creole tomato sauce didn't quite complement the flavors for me. My cousin ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit which was fried chicken tossed in hot honey glaze on a buttermilk biscuit with breakfast potatoes and enjoyed it. But let's talk about those Fried Green Tomatoes! Omgggg they were topped with lettuce, remoulade, fresh tomatoes, and a bacon-onion jam. The crunch from the batter was everything, but that BACON JAM was the unexpected highlight! I would definitely return to explore more of the menu. 10/10 - my bestfriend and I came here on a Sunday morning during 4th of July/Essence Fest weekend & the food was amazing. I joined the waitlist while we went and had some fun at the sazerac house & the wait was fully worth it! the food was delicious and the mimosas were great too! definitely would recommend if in town
Went for the hype at Ruby Slipper Cafe and unfortunately... it just wasn't it for me. Used the app for reservations which at least helped put us on the waitlist, but there wasn't really an option for indoor vs outdoor seating and we ended up inside. Since it's such a popular spot, service was definitely slow. We were seated sandwiched between two other couples and overheard how delayed orders were, so we decided to order everything all at once. We got the fried green tomatoes, mimosa flight, cappuccino, and a boozy iced coffee. The mimosa flight was actually a LOT, and because it took so long for the server to come back around, I had to slow down my drinking just to pace myself with the food coming out. For food, I had the trifecta of bennies -- and I think we also got an omelet. I didn't even finish the trifecta, but to be fair, it's a LOT of food. The seafood bennie just wasn't giving what I hoped for. I've had some amazing crab cake bennies from smaller mom-and-pop spots, so I know how good they can be, but this one just missed the mark for me. The breaded chicken bennie was actually pretty good though, and the pulled pork/beef one wasn't bad either. The fried green tomatoes caught me off guard because they had a sweeter sauce or jam on them -- not what I expected, so I'd personally pass next time. I know a lot of people come here for brunch and bachelorette trips, but after going myself... I honestly don't really get the hype.
Brunch at Ruby Slipper Cafe was actually really cute for Mother's Day. It was PACKED, but the vibe was nice and they gave all the moms a sweet little card and a carnation, which was a thoughtful touch. The mimosa flight was overpriced and honestly... still nasty but that's probably my fault for thinking this time would be different. The morning margarita though? GOOD. New Orleans never misses when it comes to strong drinks. I had the trifecta eggs Benedict with three different styles and it was really good. The fried green tomatoes with the bacon jam were probably my favorite thing we ordered -- absolutely delicious and definitely recommend. My oldest daughter tried poached eggs for the first time with her Blackstone Benedict and loved it. It also came with a fresh little salad that balanced everything out nicely. My youngest got the hot honey fried chicken sandwich. Couldn't really taste the hot honey, but the chicken itself was fried perfectly, super tender, and flavorful. Overall, cute brunch spot, good food, strong drinks, and a nice Mother's Day experience.
Ok guys this place is the bees knees! Make sure you call in or stop by for a reservation cause this place is jumping. The wife had the catfish and cheese grits, I had the chorizo omelette with the fried potatoes and it was a win! I will be back next time I visit New Orleans.

First time I came here was 5 years ago, when i was traveling solo for business. I had breakfast here three times that week. So when hubby and I were planning a long weekend in NOLA, I knew I needed to take him here. It lived up to my 5-year expectation. We got a mimosa sampler to start, then switched over to standard mimosas. Hubby got the fried chicken sandwich with tots...so good! If you want to try this place make sure to get on the list online before you get there because they always have a line. The customer service is amazing here and I love how they give suggestions or just good answers when you ask about a dish. The food is amazing. Fresh made to order, the portions are generous and they are not over priced. The fried green tomatoes are a must! Perfectly seasoned and the sauce kicks it up another level of deliciousness. The French toast is hands down some of the best I've ever tasted. You get this nice hint of vanilla that sets it apart from other places. Their fried chicken sandwich was juicy and flavorful and would put chic fil an and Popeyes out of business. The bayou shrimp Bennie was good and the fried tomato really complimented the dish. We started off a four day weekend getaway with breakfast here this morning. Fortunately we were staying at the Pelham next door so it was a 20 step walk in the rain to put our name on the waiting list. Even in a downpour at 8am their amazing staff was outside getting drink orders while we waited. Then they arrived with that amazing mimosa! It wasn't the last one we'd have with breakfast either. This place is busy busy. So be prepared to get there early or be patient. We sat at the bar after waiting g 15 mins and lived the inside decor. This definitely gives you thr NOLA experience. It's busy and slightly loud in here but just looking around you see everyone having a great time. I ordered the shrimp and grits. My wife decided on the pulled pork egg Benedict. When they arrived with our plates I thought I had died and gone to heaven. The smells were so amazing I could only hope it tasted as good. Well it did....and then some. Wow the flavors in the grits were something I've never experienced. I think they said there's worchestshire in there but I wish I knew what else. I was scrumptious. I had one bite of my wife's Benedict and it was equally amazing. I was afraid she'd ask for more of my grits so I hovered over my bowl and kept quiet. Did I mention the out of this world strawberry jam in the scratch made biscuit. Ohhhhh I can't forget about the homemade butter they brought me. No telling what magic was inside that butter as I spread it onto the biscuit. Once again AMAZING! You have to try this place if you're a true foodie! read more

Our Lyft driver coming into the city and Yelp both recommended Ruby Slipper Café as one of the top breakfast or brunch spots in the area. They happened to also be near where we were staying, and on the way to one of our attractions, so we decided to check it out. It seems to be a popular local spot since it was completely packed with their outdoor patio area as well as indoor seats and bar area. We opted for the first available seat so we were seated at the bar area. I'm really glad we didn't ask to sit outside, because the service was slow and neglective even when we were right in front of them. I can't imagine how much it would lag if we were outside. My boyfriend had their Southern Breakfast ($12.75) which comes with 2 eggs, grits, bacon, fried green tomato and a buttermilk biscuit. I had the Peacemaker ($16) which is when you mix and match any 2 of their benedicts, in which I picked the Chicken St. Charles and the Eggs Cochon. The wait for the food was ridiculous. The people next to us were able to receive and eat an entire meal while we were still waiting for our food. We asked them 3-4 times to close out too so we can get going when we were done eating, and they took forever. When the food finally arrived, I would say my boyfriend's southern breakfast was only good for that fried green tomato. Nice to try while we were in the south, but the rest of the meal was pretty basic and heavy. As for my peacemaker, most of the benedicts here have the buttermilk biscuits as the base, so it was pretty heavy. The fried chicken on the St. Charles was dry. The pork on the Cochon was overly salty, and surprisingly tough when it was slow cooked. Not sure how this is a top breakfast or brunch spot. The food was not worth the wait and hassle. Second time at the Ruby Slipper. I remember having really good egg benedicts the first time. This time around, I had the fried chicken nuggets over french toast bits. I think the frenct toast bits were fried because they were a bit crunchy. The syrup is a spice honey cajun syrup that will leave your mouth on fire. If you like hot and spicy, order this because it's sweet, savory and hot. My mom got the shrimp and grits that she was in love with and we also ordered two bloody marys that were great and strong! There was about a 20minute wait I highly suggest you get on the waitlist prior to going so you are at least on the list and you're not waiting for long. Once you arrive you're able to order a cocktail while you wait. The omelet was delicious it was cooked to perfection I did add cheddar cheese to it. The French toast bites were not so edible some of it was hard/crunchy. The noise is average to semi loud with all the conversations being carried over. It was a great spot to eat just very crowded and just make sure you get there early to avoid a big crowd. read more

Excellent food! We went to Ruby Slipper Cafe on Magazine St. while visiting New Orleans in Nov 2023. This is a great breakfast/brunch place with excellent food and good service. Food ordered: "Chicken St. Charles" i.e. fried chicken eggs benedict. Delicious! Chicken was juicy and tender like my mother-in-law does it. Salmon Avocado Toast - huge plate with hot-smoked salmon and avocado toast, with poached egg on top and other goodies. Look at the picture posted. This was also delicious and big enough to share! Grits with goat cheese - great! Pumpkin Marshmallow Beignets from Fall Specials - excellent! Bloody Mary - this one was completely unimpressive. We highly recommend this place if you are in the area! Ruby Slipper is very popular with wait times reaching 2.5h. So be prepared and join the wait list on Google in advance. Then get there when your time comes, check in, and wait ~10 min to get sited. I was told by several of my friends to make sure I made my way to Ruby Slipper for brunch. Well....I did. The food was good & the people so nice, that I went twice! The atmosphere was very busy & a little loud, but this did not detract from my experience. Our waiter, Tommy was very friendly & polite despite the mad rush. On both occasions I had the PeaceMaker Bennies (Chicken St. Charles & Bayou Shrimp). I was a little hesitant at first because of the combination of ingredients but they both were amazingly delicious!! The fried green tomato & pork Tasso/Creole sauce really brought out the flavors. Along with the incredible brunch Bennies, I tried out the beignets & the watermelon margarita. They too were absolutely amazing! we stopped in at Ruby Slipper to grab a late morning brunch! we were able to put ourselves on the list ahead of time and then check in with the hostess to confirm our party. they sat us quickly after that despite how busy they were. the menu is extensive and we ended up asking our waitress for recommendations. we nibbled on the french toast bites (to die for!!) and candied bacon. I went with the costa rican breakfast as my entree and the spice level was perfect! only 4 stars because a couple of our orders were missing items and the service got slower towards the end when we wanted to pay. but overall awesome experience and highly recommend!! read more

This is my second time visiting and second city visiting Ruby Slipper -- just as tasty as the first! However, I realized they removed the crawfish benny which was delicious and honestly what our party came in for! The bad -- there's ALWAYS a long line/wait time without the ability to book a reservation. You have to physically visit, put your name in, wait, and then return within a short window to claim your spot. It would just be way more convenient with OpenTable, Resy, etc. and allow for better planning. They do have an email waitlist, but is not specific to time, just appends your name to the list. Honorable (bad) mention -- they didn't have Hendricks for my French 75. The good -- the menu is a pretty good size, they allow substitutions, have a variety of vegetarian options, and allow mixing and matching for several dishes like my fav the benedict's! The staff has also always been very kind, even funny -- in this case, S/O to Louis behind the bar! The great -- the food is flavorful and delicious! I ordered the Bayou Shrimp Benny with two core substitutions -- no pork and scrambled eggs instead of poached. It was delish! I would definitely recommend this spot if you have the time! No, but you can add your name to the waitlist on their website. BUT... you still need to get there and check in face to face to make it official. Expect a long wait.

They don't take online reservations but you can put your name on the list for a specific time and when you arrive the wait time is 10-15 minutes

Nearly everything has some sort of milk or egg inside of it. Not recommended for vegan.

Probably about $12 a plate, definitely worth it

There is some outside seating but not an actual patio and it is covered.

We saw a few dogs outside with their owners eating, none had service animal vests or collars on...so I would believe it's ok.

It may take a little bit for you to wait, but they can accommodate. They also have waitresses that peruse the sidewalk out front taking drink orders to help the time pass.

There is not a separate gluten-free menu. A couple items could be, as far as I'm aware

Would this place have a line if we come right at 7am on a Saturday?
The line doesn't get serious until 9 or so. They also have an app where you can put your name on the list before you get there!
