While visiting the area for a conference, we decided to try the Ruby Slipper. We were told this was one of the best brunch places in NOLA. We joined the online wait list at 10:40am on a Sunday morning with a wait around time maximum of 55 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant and checked in with the hostess at 11:15am. We were not seated until 11:55am after numerous lies from the host staff stating they will seat our party next after watching multiple parties be seated both inside and outside. This was the first inclination that the service was not representative of the best brunch place in NOLA. Our waitress was initially very quick to place our drink and food order in one quick stop. Our food came shortly after. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon. Nothing to really write home about, personally. However, multiple food items were missing from the party requiring us to wait over 15 minutes for our waitress to come to our table. We even asked two other servers if they could find her for us. She did eventually visit our table with an attitude when we asked for a few things. Unfortunately, a few in the party had to eat cold brunch due to our waitress failing to check in on us until 20 minutes after getting our food. Overall, the winner for the best worst service in NOLA! Multiple service staff members just running in the street playing and yelling with each other. Unprofessional. Very disappointing experience. Our experience did not match with reviews we had so hoped to experience ourselves. Would not recommend. read more

The food and drinks were amazing. Our server was super quick and checked on us often. The only negative was that we had a reservation but had to wait due to a walk-in being seated ahead of us at the last available table. It appeared to be due to a new person being trained and someone stepped in to coach the new staff member on how to handle moving forward. We hadn't said anything so it was nice to see the delay acknowledged. read more

Check in online!! There will be a wait a mile long likely! This place is hopping which is always a good sign! We waited about 30-40 minutes which was no issue. There were 2 of us and we were seated at the bar. I would have much preferred a table, but we managed. The place was so loud, the bar tender had a hard time hearing us. We had to repeat our order several times. We stared with the pig candy bacon bites. These were obviously premade as they came out in minutes. They were good but not even remotely warm. My friend got the French toast - she said it was good. Could have used some syrup or extra of the sauce, but the server never checked on us as they were super busy. I got the biscuits and gravy with chicken. The biscuits and gravy were great. The chicken was amazing!! The eggs were saturated in fat/oil which was not good. Bloody Mary and coffee were also good. Overall it was good, but the most disappointing was the extreme loudness which made the experience had to enjoy... I would possibly come back if there was no/shorter wait time. read more

We arrived right at opening on a monday to have our last meal in New Orleans. It wasn't busy at all and service was good. We got both a regular and an iced coffee. The iced coffee was flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg--quite good. We shared the two entrees. Bananas Foster french toast--fresh banana slices and plump raisins and syrup served on french bread lightly drenched in egg batter. It was nice and not over the top/heavy. Just the right amount of sweet. The favorite entree was the eggs migas. This scramble was served on crispy pieces of tortilla snd garnished with fresh avocado slices. So tasty! This restaurant is a favorite of friends of ours who come to New Orleans frequently. It certainly did not disappoint us. Oh the pig candy bacon bites were well executed too--nice amount of both crisp snd sweet. read more

I got the Trifecta which came with 3 different types of egg Benedict's. Fried chicken, braised pork, and shrimp. All of them were good but I think I liked the fried chicken and braised pork the most. If you don't want to try 3, you can order the "peacemaker" which you can mix & match any 2 benedicts. I also ordered a lavender Paloma to enjoy. read more

I had a lot of great food on my trip to New Orleans, but I think this was absolutely the best food I had. There's a few locations, and this one was very quaint, with a bright interior and fun decor. There's a walk up space to order from the bar, but I wanted to sit for a brunch, so I got a table. I started with their signature bloody Mary, and ordered the Benedict trio with a side of grits at the same time. I hadn't even finished taking a photo of my bloody Mary and eating the snacks on top before my food was delivered! Hands down the best eggs Benedict I've ever had. The trip included a shrimp and fried green tomato, one hand pulled pork, and one fried chicken, each on the best biscuits I've ever eaten with a different sauce and a poached egg. My only small complaint was I think I waited too long to break the eggs and they had cooked all the way through rather than being runny, but they were still delicious. The bloody Mary was pretty standard but definitely 10/10, and the grits were extremely delicious too. If I could suggest one restaurant when you're in town, it would be the Ruby Slipper! read more

ALL DAY BRUNCH MENU from an honest southern scratch kitchen! This is the breakfast food you want to try when visiting New Orleans. Massive portions. Flavorful and creative dishes. High energy and enthusiastic atmosphere. Our waitress was amazing. Her name escapes me (if it helps management, she was hard of hearing and covered in tattoos--thank her again for us). The way she introduced herself and provided general information to us was so honest, sincere, and honestly, it made us feel like we were sitting at her own kitchen table. We adored her. Ruby slippers ended up being a great choice for brunch before our flight. We were greater with a smile and great attitudes. We ordered the banana foster French toast with bacon (9/10) and the breakfast sandwhich with grits (9/10). This was a delicious meal and definitely worth the wait since it was a little busy. The restaurant was clean, even with construction going on and provided a good amount of seating inside and outside. To top it off, service was excellent the whole time. We were up at 4 and in New Orleans by 8:30, and ready for some breakfast. And possibly a breakfast cocktail. There was a bit of a wait, but not nearly as long as they said it would be. Our waitress was friendly, and all the things I asked her about, she said was good. Now, I don't know if that was her actual opinion, but I went with it. I started out with a lavender Paloma. I love a Paloma and this sounded fun. I definitely got a bit of lavender odd of it. It was sweeter than I was anticipating, and I thought a little light on tequila. But it was a breakfast cocktail. I also ordered the shrimp and grits. This was a winner. I didn't really think it needed a side of biscuit, but there ya go. The grits were cooked perfectly and had good flavor. No boring unseasoned grits over here. The shrimp was sauced with a rosemary and Worcestershire sauce that was savory and delicious. Add in a bit of tasso and it was very flavorful. I did think it was missing a bit of veg, a little sauteed onion and bell pepper would have made it perfect for me. Both for flavor and texture. However I did enjoy it. And the portions were generous. Next time I may skip the cocktail and just order some coffee, but I won't judge you if you disagree. Laissez les bons temps rouler. read more

Last breakfast in the Big Easy before heading to the airport and it didn't disappoint. We only waited about seven minutes to be seated. Our waitress was a pleasant young lady who attended our every need. My husband got a shrimp omelette and I the Southern breakfast. We also got a side of bacon and an order of beignets. Everything from the eggs, bacon, grits, biscuit, beignets and coffee was exceptional! We also loved the old decor in the restaurant. The food was amazing I got white chocolate bread pudding pancakes with a side of bacon and potatoes. The pancakes were definitely delicious but the white chocolate chips get over powering towards the end I could have had fewer chips on/in my pancakes. We also got a mimosa flight they were very tasty definitely not very boozy (was a little disappointed there). The service was fast and there was not a crazy wait (30ish minutes) for the average breakfast rush. This location is rather small so the tables are pretty packed in there but it's still a cute little business with great food so I would recommend and would come back! read more

During my visit in NOLA, I walked to Ruby Slipper on a Sunday afternoon. We waited outside for about 20 minutes to be seated. Upon entry, it was loud. Very busy establishment and hard to hear my partner. It was definitely giving me diner vibes, but that's alright with me. A little past 5 minutes of waiting, our waitress came over to our table. She was very helpful and patient with all my questions; she even made some reasonable suggestions. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The robust flavor in the shrimp sauce was delicious. But let me vent because they only gave me 6 pieces of shrimp. Only 6!!! I don't understand that part.... 6 small shrimps at that. Stop playing in my face!! Let me move on because I'm getting annoyed all over again. The biscuit and butter on the side was sooo moist. The butter was sweet and creamy. My partner ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of eggs. He said it was good and filling. I ordered a mimosa that was strong. Overall, I rate this spot a 7. I wouldn't revisit only because I know I can go somewhere else and get more bang for my buck. read more

French Toast Bites - normally very good but so GREASY this time that we couldn't eat them Brioche-based French toast bites, fried and tossed in cinnamon sugar and served with cream cheese icing & praline sauce Pig Candy Bacon Bites - excellent Applewood-smoked bacon bites with a candy glaze You can mix and match 2 Benedicts with the Peacemaker. We had a great breakfast here! There's a few locations to choose from. The biscuits and gravy was spot on. We had the eggs cochon Benedict (like a pulled pork almost?) and it was SOO good! Everything we had was great. Services was great, food was served quick and hot. We were there early, so we definitely beat most of the rush but we were able to "join the waitlist" online when you're in the area, which was really convenient! read more

When we got here, it was busy inside and with a wait and we were on a time crunch so we decided to sit outside. Although, we missed out on the fun decor inside our outdoor seating was near a heater which was nice. Our server was Essie, who was super delightful (which was especially nice to have while it was busy)! We really enjoyed chatting with her and she gave great recommendations on what to order. For brunch, we ordered the berry chantilly pancakes, sweet heat chicken & french toast bites, and the one tomato, two tomato benedict. Everything was super delicious. My mom who ordered the benedict said the biscuit in it was the best she's ever had. My brother who is not a chicken and waffles fan was happy about the french toast bites and really enjoyed his meal. I absolutely love brunch it's my favorite meal you can enjoy in life and this place does brunch the way it's supposed to be done. Lots of friendly people good cocktails and amazing food!!! I'm also a Wizard Of Oz craze fan so this spot hit so many of my check lists. Lucky for me our family shares so I got to try a little of everything. My favorite of the morning was the shrimp Benedict so much flavor in the sauce. My second favorite bite was the fried green tomatoes, with the candied bacon and lettuce and tomato it was like a BLT sandwich on a plate. Then the shrimp and grits, perfectly cooked shrimp with creamy cheesy gets.. The pancakes were light and fluffy filled with flavor and of course the biscuits were light and buttery. I've had this brunch spot bookmarked for years. My friends and I tried going a few years ago when I was in town, but the wait was really long. This location was next to my hotel on my most recent New Orleans trip, so I made sure to prioritize coming here. I used the wait list feature on Yelp and we didn't have to wait too long before being seated. I didn't order a cocktail, but the drink menu here is impressive. I would love to try their mimosa flight in the future. I like that you have the option of ordering a benedict sampler with 2 different types of benedicts. I ordered the shrimp benedict and smoked salmon benedict. The shrimp benedict was ok, but something was lacking a bit for me. The smoked salmon benedict was really good. Service was ok, but I wouldn't recommend coming here if you are in a rush. Food can take time to come out on really busy mornings/afternoons. read more

So funny story. I had a reservation for this location but totally went to the wrong one luckily this location was just a 10 minute walk away from the other location. When I went to the host I explained I went to the wrong location and was kicked from the wait list. She totally understood and put me back on the list as the next table so I didn't have to wait long. I was so appreciative of that. It was very busy so I recommended you get your reservation before you get there. Me and my family sat outside and the weather was perfect. I wish I remembered our servers name but she was absolutely amazing. We went on the 1st of November. She had an LSU jacket and beautiful curly hair. She was so kind and kept checking in on us. The kitchen was a bit overwhelmed so our server kept checking in on us making sure we were ok. I used to work in a restaurant so I completely understood and me and my family were in no rush at all. We went Sunday morning and luckily did not have to wait. The restaurant was clean. I had an omelet and it had soooo much flavor it was amazing. This place (not this exact location) came as a high recommendation from a local friend, specifically for breakfast, so we came in relatively early in the morning. It was packed! Fortunately, they had space available at the counter (and we don't mind) so we were immediately seated and served by the "counter-man" who is much more machine. Seriously, it was mesmerizing to watch this guy work. This was one of the highlights of the meal, and the greatest form of entertainment. Not only did he take care of the food orders for the two or so dozen people at the counter, he was also making the drinks (at light-speed) for everyone in the restaurant. Everything looked good, so I decided to hit up the Trio of Benedicts. Good thing I was hungry. This was a beast of a meal, with enough food for three normal people, and at a very reasonable price. My experience at Ruby Slipper Cafe started off well with their convenient online waitlist system, allowing for immediate seating upon arrival. The service was prompt as our drink orders were taken quickly. For our meal, we chose pancakes with bacon, avocado toast (without smoked salmon), and a gulf shrimp omelette. Unfortunately, the pancakes and bacon were somewhat dry, and the avocado toast had an overpowering vinegar taste from the pickled vegetables, coupled with not-so-fresh avocado that was quite brown. The gulf shrimp omelette was decent but nothing extraordinary. There was a slight issue during payment; our server accidentally processed our credit card for another table's higher amount. Luckily, I noticed the error on the receipt, and they managed to correct it without needing to void and reprocess the transaction. Overall, the breakfast experience was just okay. When we walked up to the restaurant...the street was crowded. I thought people were insane for crowding the street just to get a seat inside. Fortunately for us, it is a hot day outside and a waiter (Alberto) announced that he had an opening outside for 2 people. I quickly raised my hand. Talk about zero wait time! Alberto was amazing! He knew the menu like the back of his hand and he did not disappoint!!! He recommended the St. Peter fish. Soooo good! Alberto even talked to a couple that was smoking near our table while waiting for their name to get called. My boyfriend complained about his food because there was a simple mix up with the eggs but wanted to keep his dish so he did not have to wait for a new plate. There is truly something for everyone; if you're searching for sweet or savory or something light, they have just the choice for you. Their coffee is from another local brand called French Truck and they serve it in all of their restaurants in a variety of ways - iced, hot, even boozy They have rotating seasonal specials that change each quarter; their Winter specials right now were all fantastic. If you want to sample them all, they have a "trio" plate that has some tastings of all 3 specials - the benedict with coffee-glazed ham on a biscuit, cranberry + orange curd pancakes, and the sweet potato stuffed french toast. This was a great spot for breakfast! Great morning cocktail selection and a menu that will paralyze you with the inability to choose from so many tantalizing choices. Jazz was a great server and even in spite of the fact of the place getting slammed made sure we got attentive and cheerful service. Bridge was also an awesome hostess who extended enthusiastic New Orleans affection on all of her guests. The food was delicious. The French toast bites were sinful to start off with. I had a breakfast sandwich with every ingredient prepared to perfection. But that leads me to my only quibble-the sandwich came on a plain white hamburger bun. My all-time favorite brunch spot. My mouth is crying just thinking about all the deliciousness I've had here! The line is long, especially on weekends/Saints game days/etc. But get with the times! The No Wait app let me get in line in my hotel room while we got ready! If you are waiting, get a brandy milk punch or their house bloody Mary. Both are unbelievable!! I've never been disappointed here. They have a great staff, from the hostess, waitress, even one of the cooks came to our table outside last time and offered our dog leftovers (you can bring your dog on their patio). We had the pleasure of working with the staff at the Ruby Slipper on Magazine Street for a reception during the 2011 Rotary International Convention, May 2011. After contacting the management they agreed to open the restaurant after hours from 4 - 6 pm for a cocktail hour for 70 people. We could not have asked for a better location, service or atmosphere. Wade and Joe took such good care of our group that we extended the party another hour. We would go back to them in a heart beat. We have been going back for breakfast and lunch. We went there for brunch on Saturday. We wanted to try out their "Ruby Slipper" specials but everything had some kind of pork product in it so we tried the BYO omelet and Chicken St. Charles with Hollander sauce instead of the pork sauce. The chicken dish was actually good even with the different sauce. We chose the location because it seemed the bigger compared to other locations, on Yelp. The food was okay, the server was okay as well, the tables were so close to each other that he hesitated to come in between them to take our orders so, I had to shout to give my order. I was terribly disappointed with my meal at Ruby Slipper, but the rest of my family enjoyed their meals well enough. My gripe was with the truly awful trifecta of bennies. All three had hard eggs. I pointed this out to our server, who apologized for the overcooked eggs, but made no offer to correct them. My plate sat untouched. With the long wait, the anticipation of a good, last meal of our trip, I was hoping to be impressed. This might well be a rare instance of someone simply making a mistake, but the lack of resolution left me annoyed. My husband and I are in the NOLA celebrating our birthday and we got here two days ago, the only reason we came is because our hotel raved about how good the food is!
