When it comes to New Orleans it isn't a city that specializes in southern style food, but this fried chicken was so good. I know it's not a po boy, but I'm glad I went with a good old fried chicken sandwich accompanied by one of their versions of a an eggs Benedict. Nice little cozy cafe is the best way to describe this restaurant. I know that pre-Covid they had outdoor dining, I'm not sure if they are doing that currently, but it's definitely worth taking out. This place is getting 3 stars due to the service and wait times. The food was actually good just not worth the 2 hour wait, especially when you're told it would be a 60-90 minute wait time and people that came after you are seated before you. The hostess was ok, but seemed to be giving preferential treatment to others. When I went up after waiting 70 minutes to find out how much longer it would be she told me one to two hours more. This after telling people that just arrived it would be a 45 minute wait. Then when I asked her about she said may e another 15 min. It was a total of 2 hours we waited. By this time I thought the food better be amazing to get over the wait. The food was actually good. My husband had the hot smoked Salmon Benny, while I had the peace maker (fried chicken Benny and fried green tomato Benny). All were decent, sauce was the best part. We shared the banana foster Pain perdí, which was good, not too sweet or over powering. Just the right amount of sweetness. The waitress, Jackie B, was kind and gave good service. By far the best breakfast recommendation on a travel weekend I have ever tried to date. So where to start! O yeah the mimosa's, nothing better after a long night and not wanting to feel the repercussions of the fun had! So on to the food it has the great creole New Orleans flare! The pancakes and French toast are on point and are great southern breakfast. To move on to the New Orleans flare it is wrapped up in 3 dishes. Eggs Cochon, Chicken St. Charles, BBQ shrimp and Grits. Or better yet the The Trifecta or The peacemaker. You cannot go wrong with any of them according to my friends who I have introduced to this in our travels to the Big Easy! A few weeks ago, around lunch time, I had a hankering for some brunch for lunch. Ruby Slipper had been on my radar for a while, so I decided to head over and treat myself to some eggs 'n stuff. This was my first time here and the location is just gorgeous. I love the huge space with plenty of natural light- I'm sure it gets packed on Sunday mornings. Looking over the menu, everything sounded amazing. I kept it conservative and got an order of Chicken St. Charles with a side of grits and a side of bacon. I also got iced coffee and hot coffee, just to get my mind right. The Chicken St. Charles is poached eggs on a piece of fried chicken atop a biscuit. If it sounds like I just described a piece of heaven, you aren't wrong. There's just something special about breaking a poached egg and the yolk drips all over a piece of fried chicken and onto a biscuit. There must be a word for it, but I'm not sure what it is. Let's just go with deliciousity. This deliciousity was off the charts and I had no idea how rich it was going to be- and that's not a complaint. The side of grits and bacon were a perfect round off to the meal. The grits were delicious and the bacon might be some of the best bacon I've ever had at a sit down restaurant. The iced coffee was okay but, surprisingly, I actually preferred the hot coffee. They serve it in a huge mug and it's just great. The waitress was really nice and got everything taken care of in record time. I love the vibe here and the food is out of this world, so I'll be back. read more

First morning in NOLA and we found ourselves here since it's walking distance from where we were staying. The place is surprisingly big and we got in without any wait on a Friday morning. All 3 of us ordered coffees and looked at the menu. My friend pointed out his favorites and I ordered a Benny with pork debris on a biscuit. Husband ordered a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit. My meal was great - the eggs were cooked perfect, loved the pork debris or shredded pork. I didn't feel like I was shorted on the portions. I wasn't crazy about the biscuit since it was pretty hard to cut into with a fork at times and the way they split my biscuit had me with a thicker biscuit on one side than another. Husband confirmed my biscuit thoughts in terms of the texture from his sandwich. He also was overwhelmed by having candied bacon. It's good the first bite, but almost gets too sweet as you go on. Service was great. Our waitress made sure to check on us and I felt like we didn't have to wait long for anything. I really liked how everything is done on the iPad and made getting the check a breeze. Overall, this was a great start to our foodie adventures in NOLA. read more

Tommie was amazing! Get the spicy bloody Mary with bacon infused vodka! Also the "peacemaker" Benedict option let's you choose two egg Benedict flavors. I don't get the hype over this place. The food, service, and environment are all lacking. Staff was not very attentive and seemed distracted, even when the place was not busy (we ate there early for breakfast when there were only a few folks there). Food was just not good. Fancy new edition of the now pretty extensive Ruby Slipper chain that started in Mid-City. They continue to execute with a reliable continuation that matches my experiences at the original and in some ways even exceed them. I'm not a big breakfast person but they offer a decent array of brunch and lunch items for folks such as myself along with some rather well executed alcoholic beverages to add to the fun. There was a bit of a wait as this location has grown quite popular so do plan on that if you are doing a visit during the weekend. read more

And it's even worse when there's no one there working the front to tell you anything -- whether the food is done, not done, whether they've gotten your order. Ruby Slipper has been my go-to breakfast spot since the first place opened. We love the bacon, drinks, the Benedict's and my favorite the Banana Fosters French Toast. But this time I tried the special Praline Stuffed French Toast. Sorry I delved from my fav. This was two pieces of bread only French toasted on outside. I heard the original Midtown location was the best of the 3. However, we went to the one on Canal Street. I'd recommend making a reservation on Yelp prior to getting there as waits could be 60+ min. Between 10 and 11am, the wait went from ~15min to 65min and I didn't realize you could check in on Yelp until it was too late. However, it did give us enough time to check out Cafe Beignet beforehand. After waiting over a hour for our reservation, I was disappointed with the food. The hype was too much. I ordered one of their specials, shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were a solid meal, but it definitely wasn't worth the price - grits ain't that expensive and there wasn't a ton of shrimp to compensate for it. Our table didn't taste anything that justified the Yelp rating or the wait. While you're waiting though, you can order one of their Bloody Mary's and drink it on the streets (one of the greatest beauties of NOLA - no open container laws). I wasn't a fan of their Bloody Mary mix, but it's supposedly award-winning so worth trying out. Skip the hype and try somewhere else. Taste: 4/5 Bang for buck: 3/5 Overall: 3/5 read more

Hostess got us seated right away and I highly recommend getting on the wait-list. Three stars for the takeout order that required an inordinately long wait even though Veronica said the order was supposedly entered when we received our in restaurant food. It took an additional half hour after we had finished and paid to get THIS?? Really? SO disappointed! And it is not even good! Where's the bell pepper onions bacon garlic?? This place had THE BEST eggs Benedict I've ever had. I got "The Trifecta" which features their shrimp eggs Benedict, chicken eggs Benedict, and the pork eggs Benedict. The chicken was definitely the best and honestly to die for, with the pork being a close second. It's a must try! The shrimp I could've done without, but there was nothing wrong with it! Just not of my taste for brunch. We also ate a BYO omelet which was pretty good! We loaded it up with every kind of meat which was good, but just a little too much for me. That was my friends order.. lol. The potatoes that came with it were crunchy and good too! To finish we had the stuffed French toast! They were featuring salted caramel and it was a perfect dessert still with a taste of brunch. I would definitely recommend this place but I would warn that it is very crowded and loud! The loudness didn't really bother me, but I was almost getting claustrophobic because of how close I was to other people eating out. Maybe 3-4 deer between you and table next to you.
