This is a $22 combo with small cup of clam chowder. The chicken is bad. There is more batter than the actual chicken. There's too much pepper in the batter as well. The service was great though.

While more and more fancy and pricey burger joints are popping up everywhere, there is nothing more down to earth and American than grabbing a classic cheeseburger and a shake or a Coke from a Ruby's. This 1950's themed diner has been a part of many local communities for over four decades and very little has changed through the years. The restaurant still features the same booths with bright red and comfy sofas, the servers still wear the same vintage retro-style uniforms, and memorabilia from the days of Big Band music still decorate the walls. Their burgers are always good and accompanied by fresh and piping hot shoestring fries that are properly salted. The meat is flavorful and not too greasy. I also like the toasted brioche bun. I usually go with the classic which comes with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and Ruby's secret sauce. Sometimes when I want to add some flavors from south of the border, I'll order the guacamole burger. Another one of my favorites is the hickory burger which comes with smoked bacon and BBQ sauce. I find the prices here reasonable and affordable for a treat at a local diner. Their service is usually prompt and courteous. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful and is certainly family friendly.

By far my family's favorite restaurant, Ruby's is truly special. It's hard these days to find a throwback diner with that real "Happy Days" vibe but they've nailed it. From the decor, menus literally everything is 1950's magical. This specific review will highlight Christmastime at Ruby's, which is a family tradition for us to break away during all the busy busy and just enjoy a nice dinner in the midst of all the shopping and wrapping of the holiday. Any train lovers out there? They have a model train not just on display but running in the dining room towards the back (walk in go far right) and the decor is subtle, very small town but with enough touch for a beautiful photo op. Food is always amazing, best burgers this side of town and by far, the #1 spot in So Cal for shakes. Come by for the holidays and believe me, you will be amazed!

I came on a Thursday for dinner and it was a steady flow of customers and lots of families. Not too loud and had the old school music playing in the background. Good service. Loved the that this place hasn't changed and become modernized. Still true to the years of diner experience. Oreo milkshake was a must and it did not disappoint. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and let me tell you the way it was put together was eye appealing. I go to many burger places and Ruby's presentable burgers are incredible and delicious. I don't know why I haven't come here sooner!

This classic burger was absolutely amazing.

The service here is quick and friendly and they make sure you always have coffee and it's hot (and there is always plenty of cream, 2 big pluses in my book). There is a daily white board of specials with 4 or 5 things that aren't on the menu, but I always go for something Mexican because it's just. so. good. My go to is the huevos rancheros. That sauce is *chef's kiss*. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here. The big debate is biscuits and gravy or the banana loaf. Both are solid choices, but the loaf is great to take home. This trip the hubs got the Rambo special which met his approval. We both like our eggs over medium and they do them right here with runny yolks and cooked whites. We leave here happy and full and satisfied every time. This spot is a dependable staple that has earned its place in our rotation.

As busy as it was, I was still seated immediately in a booth. The interior is all yellow with a cowboy theme. It feels a bit dated, but everything is clean and comfortable. I was greeted and brought water and a menu almost immediately I ordered the Santa Fe Skillet (Three eggs, ham, Ortega chiles, jack cheese, avocado, $16.95) with a side of hash browns and sourdough toast. I was surprised when my food arrived only five minutes after ordering. They run a very efficient kitchen! When my food arrived, the server offered me their home made mild or spicy salsa to go with it. I chose the mild salsa, and it went great with the dish. The skillet tasted great and was filling. My server, Betsy, was very friendly and provided quick service from start to finish. I took my time eating, and was still in and out in a bit under 30 minutes.

I wanted to share some comprehensive feedback regarding a recent experience, aiming to highlight both your successes and areas where further refinement could elevate the customer journey even further. First and foremost, I must commend your team for their exceptional warmth and hospitality. From my initial phone call to the moment I picked up my order, I felt genuinely welcomed and valued. This level of customer service, which often feels lacking in many establishments today, truly sets American Grub apart. It creates a welcoming atmosphere that significantly enhances the overall experience, and I sincerely hope this commitment to friendliness remains a cornerstone of your operation. However, I encountered a couple of points that, in my personal opinion, warrant consideration for improvement. Regarding the payment process, I felt a degree of apprehension about providing my credit card details over the phone. While I understand the operational need to secure orders and prevent potential losses, particularly for larger transactions, for a single item like my bacon cheeseburger, priced at $17.24 including tax, this practice felt somewhat disproportionate. I also noted the 99-cent fee for online payments, which, while minor, might deter some customers who are seeking convenience without additional charges. Perhaps exploring alternative secure payment links for phone orders or adjusting the fee structure for smaller transactions could enhance customer comfort and streamline the process. My primary concern, however, arose upon returning home. Despite ordering a bacon cheeseburger, I discovered the burger completely lacked bacon, as well as any form of sauce or mayonnaise. This oversight had a significant impact on the meal; the absence of these core components rendered the burger quite bland and far from the experience I had anticipated. When ordering a single item, the expectation for meticulous attention to detail is particularly high, as there are fewer variables. Consequently, the overall value of the meal, given the missing ingredients, was not quite met on this occasion. I did reach out to the owner privately via email to discuss these points, and I appreciate their responsiveness and transparency in addressing my feedback, particularly concerning the rationale behind the phone payment policy. It is reassuring to know that your business is open to customer input. My hope is that these observations can serve as constructive input, allowing American Grub to continue refining its excellent service and product quality. I remain a supporter of your local endeavor and look forward to seeing these aspects addressed. Thank you for reaching out. To clarify, all my reviews and communications are crafted solely from my personal experiences and genuine perspectives, not AI. Every word and insight you read is authentically mine, driven by my commitment to provide honest feedback. Even though the review was long..(lol) I wanted to make sure the details are accurate and understandable. Plus I think you and your establishment are great and I wanted to detail that as well Kimberly.

I recently went back after many, many years away and I have to say that the current owners have done a fantastic job of keeping what was always special about the place while updating some of the less-than-stellar things that existed. I think the scaled down menu really does the place justice - because you can still get a Dick's Scramble, but they've kept the menu minimal so everything feels intentional and tastes delicious. It's still diner food, but that's exactly why you're here. The coffee is strong and hot, the eggs are fluffy, and the service is friendly and fantastic.
