The service was aweful. There were 2 waiters we waited and waited. Finally the brought my boyfriend wine and me italian water. Then our food. We waited another 45 min. Boyfriend had pasta bolognese. I had mousaka. His pasta was bland. My mousaka did not have bechamel sauce. It was a red sauce. It was bland. They gave me a small dental size cup of white sauce. The "reimagined" Rumari is an absolute gem of a restaurant. Excellent fare, atmosphere, and staff! I went with a group on (re)opening night - a night where inevitable snafus are expected - yet the experience was pitch perfect. Adding a Greek slant to the Italian menu adds a delicious complexity of flavor to the comfort staples expected from fine Italian dining. You can tell that such thought went into the menu, with precision in the execution -- we all ordered something different and passed plates around and there wasn't one disappointment among the dishes. For those who may be vegan, the manager was excited to say that they're working on a few vegan specials and versions of existing dishes that would accommodate those who don't eat meat or dairy. Also, the pasta fagioli (soup) was the best I've ever tasted, piping hot and so flavorful, a definite standout. The vibe felt very intimate and authentic, our waiter Giovanni was so funny and attentive, and the cocktails were INSANELY good (and strong!). The staff found out my birthday was coming up in a few days and surprised me with a candle-adorned dessert and sang to me in Italian - the chef joined in and sounded like he belonged on stage. Do yourselves a favor and plan your next date night or group dinner at Rumari. You will not regret it. I'll definitely be back. Again and again. Ambiance was ok - nice to see a local spot bustling. The General eating area is small and there was a large party so it was very noisy. If you have any kind of hearing issues be prepared to look at your table mates w/ a confused look as you are likely not to hear full sentences of conversations. Service was pretty good. The food for its price was good. Everyone at my table four of us except me thought the same regarding the food. I had the souvlaki plate. The marinated Greek style skewered meat was very chewy and my plate was delivered to the table cold. I could not eat much - I had the Greek salad first and it was excellent. Took the family here while in town on vacation. Cool and mellow ambiance. Service friendly and on point. We split the Greek salad (good), i had the lamb chops (spiced and grilled to absolute perfection), my wife had gluten free pasta primavera (she loved it), and the kids had pasta dishes - one was bolognese (so tasty) and the other fettuccini alfredo. Went to Rumari for the 1st time and it did not disappoint. Ambiance was relaxing and intimate. Staff is amazing, extremely nice and attentive. The food was delicious! We got a little bit of everything and we were in a food coma for the rest of the night. And not to forget the drinks were strong and good. Food was subpar, and the service was so, so. Ambiance was LOUD!! The worst part was management making it our problem to sort out the bill for a party of 10!!  We all sat there, phone calculators in hand, trying to sort out what each of us owed, instead of enjoying each other's company and raving about the fantastic food and service we had. Once we each figured out what we owed, we were made to let our server know how much we each owed, and which card was to be charged for each order. It is 2024, right? Anyway, we each get our individual checks and each check has a total due, and a "Tip" line saying 20% with a line, as though the customer should full in the blank line, then total, and sign.  Leaving the impression that a tip should be made.  Here's the problem THEY HAD ALREADY ADDED THE 20% TIP, BECAUSE WE WERE A PARTY OF 10!!! Bottom line, subpar food, so-so service, extremely loud ambitious, and very shady business practices, means I will not be returning, and you should avoid this once loved Laguna Beach destination at all costs. I'm a long time Laguna Beach restauranteer being a local (is that a word? lol). I normally go for the flashier spots, like the rooftop bars and whatnot. But I decided to check out Rumari on a recommendation from a friend. It was my friend's birthday recently and we were going to go to Cucina Entecca at the Irvine Spectrum, but wanted to try Laguna instead. We're so glad we did! It doesn't look like some big fancy spot from the outside, but inside it's truly lovely. The hostess is very sweet and kind, warm and welcoming. It's more traditional and conservative. I love the deep green leather seating and the bar ambiance with the open beam ceiling. The food is fantastic! We had I think his name was Moe? Mo? as our server. He was wonderful. Professional, thorough, attentive, and made my friend's birthday really unforgettable with his singing! Him and the other guy who sang were so fun. And the chocolate souffle? Holy cow. We will definitely be back for that. That was definitely the cherry on top - it was not too sweet, just the perfect amount. If you go for nothing else, go for this at least! My friend knows their wines and he was able to take us through a detailed explanation of some of their best wines and recommended some great apps and entrees which we took his word up on. It bugs me when the servers don't know the menus and can't recommend a decent wine due to their inexperience. Not so with this server. Only cons - a little noisy and a little warm. Other than that, we had a really fun time and will definitely be back! Note: this place can get extremely busy so calling ahead to make a reservation is a good idea. After dinner, walk across the street and go see the amazing views of the ocean! Parking was easy too. We just parked in the neighborhood and walked down. read more

They charged $5 for 4 extra pieces of pita bread for a mezze plate. What a joke! The mezze originally came with 4 pathetic pieces of pita so we ate that and still had some dips left so we asked for a little more pita. That should be complimentary, not like we asked for pita for a large party, it was only two of us. I understand inflation but come on!! Great way to nickel and dime your customers. Went to this place for anniversary dinner. Atmosphere was very cool and waiter was amazing. Food was just ok but that isn't why I'm giving one star. I'm pretty sure this place gave us food poisoning. We went to Rumari for a family birthday dinner. Even though it's a trek from HB it was worth the drive. The food was so delicious and the ambiance was adorable. The Greek Salad and the Caprese Salad were so fresh. Can we talk about the green sauce you dip your bread in? I had the Lobster Carbonara - yum! My husband had the Chicken Parm and other family members had the Rotele and Shrimp Diablo, all great! Ended with the Grand Mariner Soufflé and the Tiramisu! Rumari is my new favorite! Everything was delicious and light. The food was not salty which I find is a problem at a lot of restaurants. The PAPOU'S MOUSSAKA was the best I have had. It comes with tzatziki with feta. My husband really enjoyed his lobster carbonara and the Greek salad was nicely done. Good bar...very friendly staff...We will be back ...often. P.S. When our party first arrived, we were seated promptly, however, our waiter became very snappy, almost annoyed to be there. I assume this was because only a couple of people of our party of 6 ordered alcohol, and he was looking for more people to order drinks. When we started ordering, he seemed very annoyed to be at our table, he even snatched a menu from my mom's hand. Our food took a while to arrive, so we were expecting great food. However, not one person in our party loved their dish. I got the gnocchi, and the sauce was overly heavy with the gnocchi themselves being not the best. We got two chicken dishes- the grilled chicken limoni and the chicken souvlakia. The chicken souvlakia was dry, and the flavor was not there. The chicken limoni was also dry, again with no flavor. For the dishes to be mediocre at best with the amount of time we waited, was disappointing to say the least. Finally, the ambiance was nice at first. However, a very large party arrived and became very loud, which I get, you want to have a good time. But with the way the restaurant was layed out, I couldn't hear any one of my family member's speaking, and they were less than a foot away. Our waiter also served that large party and was very friendly to them, so I wonder why he was annoyed at us. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Rumari. read more
